My coworkers and I have come here for lunch a couple of times now. The food comes fast and is absolutely delicious. I'd never had eggdrop soup before this, but I can't stop thinking about it. It's so good! They put a spice rack on the table so you can add spices to your food as you wish, but my chicken teriyaki was excellent as is. Service is good, even when it's super busy. I almost never leave reviews, but this experience was so uncomfortable and disappointing that it absolutely needs to be shared. What should have been a nice dinner turned into one of the most unprofessional restaurant experiences we've ever had. We ordered two dishes -- the traditional Pad Thai and the Lemongrass Pad Thai. The Lemongrass Pad Thai was very good and full of flavor, but the traditional Pad Thai was extremely poor. It didn't taste authentic at all -- it was overly sweet, heavy, and tasted more like a teriyaki noodle dish than true Pad Thai. The sauce and balance of flavors were completely off. We've had Pad Thai at many authentic Thai restaurants across the country, and this was by far the most off-tasting version we've ever had. When we politely mentioned this to our server, he was absolutely wonderful. He was kind, attentive, and handled the situation exactly how a professional should. He listened carefully, was genuinely understanding, and did everything in his power to make things right. He was easily the highlight of our visit and deserves full recognition for his excellent service. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the manager/chef, Joe. After our server spoke with him, Joe came out to our table, and the situation went downhill fast. Joe sat down at our table uninvited, immediately took a defensive tone, and started arguing with us about how the dish was "made correctly." He even corrected the way my boyfriend pronounced "Pad Thai", which was completely unnecessary, condescending, and unprofessional. We calmly explained that we weren't asking for anything to be remade or comped -- we were simply giving honest feedback. We even told Joe directly that we fully intended to pay for both dishes, regardless of how we felt about the food. But despite that, Joe continued to argue with us at length, insisting that the dish was fine and that we were wrong. He dismissed everything we said, talked over us, and made the entire exchange uncomfortable. Rather than showing basic customer service or understanding, he treated us like we were being difficult simply for sharing an honest opinion. To make matters worse, he offered us peanut sauce as a "solution," which made no sense and only emphasized how unwilling he was to listen. The entire encounter felt confrontational, defensive, and unnecessarily argumentative. It's one thing for food not to meet expectations -- that happens -- but it's another to be corrected, debated, and disrespected by the chef for politely expressing a concern. Later that evening, my boyfriend actually became sick after eating the traditional Pad Thai, experiencing stomach pain and nausea, which only reinforced our concern that something about the dish wasn't right. While we can't say with absolute certainty that the food caused it, the timing was too close to ignore. In the end, we did exactly what we said we would -- we paid for both meals in full and tipped our server generously because he genuinely deserved it. He handled himself with professionalism and grace in a situation that was clearly made worse by the chef's behavior. This entire situation could have been easily resolved with understanding and respect. Instead, Joe chose to argue, correct, and dismiss paying customers who were calm, polite, and reasonable throughout the entire conversation. His behavior was not only unprofessional but deeply disappointing for someone representing the restaurant. We left feeling disrespected, frustrated, and completely turned off by the experience. The food was below average, the interaction with Joe was inappropriate and uncomfortable, and the only redeeming part of the evening was our wonderful server. It's truly unfortunate because this could have been handled so differently. We won't be returning, and we sincerely hope upper management takes this situation seriously -- because behavior like this drives customers away and reflects very poorly on the restaurant as a whole. read more

Don't be fooled by star ratings alone. My first time in Mobile AL and me and a friend decided to try a Thai food in the city. What a disappointment!! My friend got phanaeng and I got the massaman curry. Both curry looked similar with similar broth and tasted very much the same. And both not in a good way. What bothered us the most was the temperature! It was extremely hot. As in hot like it as microwave to a super heated. 15 mins later, it was so temperature hot that food was barely edible. When mentioned to the wait staff, he explained to me that vegetables were stir fried and then the curry was added. Honestly, that's false as veggies looked nothing like they were stir fried. And internals of the bell peppers being extremely hot, they were likely microwaved. As we were leaving the restaurant, my friend over heard customers behind us complaining about the food temperature. The owner came out of the restaurant to explain to me why I shouldn't have complained about the food temperature. I know the owner doesnt know me but I'm a scientist and worked in a restaurant business growing up for 10 years. Owner stated that it's hot because curry was added at the end and hence it's hot. I asked why the miso soup was so cold but curry was so hot, he just stated they use expansive bowls. This logic doesn't make sense as thick bowl that's cold when curry goes on, it will pull the temp away. I highly doubt they pre heat the bowls. Overall, if this is normal for this restaurant, I highly recommend going else where. Taste was 3/10. Not quite authentic. Spice level recommended by the staff almost made it sound like real Thai hot and we got super mind. Atmosphere was 3/10 If I ever come back to Mobile, I would not come back. We burned our tongue and this is not acceptable for any restaurants. I'm giving two stars only because the owner came out. But his attitude and explanation doesn't make sense and at the end, just wasted more of my time. read more

WOW!!! I heard this place was good but I didn't expect this! First of all the customer service was impressive and the presentation absolutely beautiful!!! My crab Rangoons were the best I've ever had and I had some for an appetizer and for dinner coupled with the fried rice which was also delicious! My hubby had the shrimp with noodles and it too was extremely delicious! They have a chalk board on the wall I wish I would have seen because there were some dishes that sounded incredible! When you come in there is a smaller chalk board with drink specials on it. We got greeted upon entering but we were told to sit wherever we wanted and this place looks huge with the mirrors in it I actually thought there was another room at first. I can't say enough good things about this place. Aroy is THE Thai restaurant in the area. End of story. Nobody else is as fresh and innovative. Every part of the menu is built to make you feel like family. The apps are exciting - you have the basic spring rolls and summer rolls but then you see it - Mr. Krabs. It's Rangoon but it's Rangoon made by Granddad, by hand. That's the difference. Joe, Lyla, and their family have done something that can't easily be replicated - they bring the flavor, the heat, and the personal touches that make Aroy feel less like a restaurant and more like your grandmother's house, a room right off the kitchen, where magic happens, if your grandmother was from Thailand. I'm new to experiencing this place; I've only been twice. This place is conveniently located five minutes from downtown, and it's not much of a hassle to get to and from. I must say that both times, the customer service was outstanding. I appreciate Joe, who has been extremely nice about my order and even remembered me the second time I went back. On both occasions, I ordered the same thing: the chicken fried rice with two sides of dumplings. They did mess up by giving me shrimp the last time, but it wasn't a big deal. I still enjoyed the food. Looking at the menu, I noticed a wide selection of items typically found at a Thai restaurant. They also have appropriate seating, so you can sit and enjoy with your family. I have eaten here approximately 3x per month over the past ~3 years. The service is impeccable, and the food is amazing. Joe and the rest of the crew provide a great experience for large and small parties. Everyone is welcomed and treated well. People with abnormal dietary restrictions will find careful accommodations of their preferences and needs. From Supreme Court Justices and multi-millionaires to Buddhist monks and construction workers, everyone knows that this place serves up quality at very reasonable prices on a consistent basis. I am primarily writing this review because a recent experience I had at another local restaurant was so execrable that it made me appreciate what an oasis Aroy Thai is. This isn't to say that all other restaurants in the area are terrible - by no means! However, Aroy Thai, like The Spiffy Fox, is special to me and to many others. It's freakishly clean, and Joe has the best stories. Behave yourself, though, or you might end up in one of those stories. On Saturday nights, special off-the-menu dishes often become available. You might not be able to see it on the online menus, but they have salmon dishes. Unfortunately, I have not tried any of them yet, but that just means that I have to go back soon. Note that a 3.5% surcharge is applied for non-cash payments to offset the part that the credit card companies skim from payments. So, if your card does not have a premium rebate for dining charges, you might want to swing by the ATM on your way. read more

This place is awesome! I am very hard on service and quality. Coming from very humble means myself, I know hard work and genuine service when I see it... and this place has it 1000% !!! Now somebody really needs to finish destroying the building to the right of it cause it's killing the whole vibe of this establishment. But once you get inside, you will find a place that gives off a home kitchen styled dining room that's been upscaled to serve a mass of people The greeters were kind and gave warm greetings... our waitress was timely, knowledgeable, offered great suggestions and was very attentive to our needs. Our food arrived quickly and our order was correct (I am always aggravated when my order isn't right). And finally ... the flavor was absolutely the bomb! I felt a little guilty when we walked in because we have a "favorite" Thai restaurant close to our house where we eat often and they know us there. Luckily, the feelings of guilt quickly subsided. In fact, the guy is so memorable that I remembered him serving us at another restaurant about 2 or 3 years ago and we only dined at the other establishment once. Of course this means the service was top notch. The food... on my word y'all, it was the bomb! Hands down, this was the best Thai food I've ever had in my entire life! We started with the summer rolls and we knew we were going to be in for a treat as soon as we bit into them. It was an instant explosion of flavor in our mouths. For my entree, I typically go with panang curry or massaman curry, but the waiter encouraged me to try something different as I was debating venturing out a bit. I ordered the ginger stir fry with chicken and loved every bite of it. The ginger flavored sauce had impeccable flavor. Now I really want to try their curry, but I'm not positive I can stay away from the ginger sauce. My hubs ordered the prik pao, but got shrimp instead of his usual chicken. Again, it was the best and I should know because I ate about one-third of it. The shrimp was perfectly fried and crispy and had the most amazing flavor. If you love Thai food, Aroy is a must. Wife and I come over frequently from Biloxi to see concerts, shop, and go to cultural events. Our friends from Mobile introduced us to this place. We loved it! Great food! Great Atmosphere and great location! We ordered an appetizer and when it came out, it was not what we expected. We did try it and did not like the flavour of it at all. So we waved the waiter down and sent it back and asked for it to be taken off the bill. Shortly thereafter, our main dish came out, I had the Sweet & Sour Chicken and my wife had Pepper Steak. Both of these dishes were excellent. Would highly recommend. After dinner, we received the cheque and the appetizer was still on the check. I informed the waiter and he told me they couldn't take it off. I asked for the manager (I usually do not do this, but I did not feel we should be charged for the food we did not like/eat). I explained to the manager the situation, and he took off the charge. We left the waiter a 20% tip and handed him the check with the cash. He seemed aggravated by us and was a little rude when we left. Despite the mix-up, we will be back. The manager made sure we were taken care of and, in turn made us respect the place more. read more
