Just off of 6th St, we stopped by for a quick bite and to enjoy the rooftop views. The ambiance was great, very vacation-vibe on the rooftop of a hotel with a pool and cabanas and misty air spraying out and lots of greenery. Felt like we were at a Caribbean island bar and not Austin. Bartender was friendly. The food, however, was just ok. We ordered carne asada tacos and barbacoa taquitos. The meat were dry in both and a bit flavorless. The pickled onions were great though and after stuffing that in the carne asada tacos and drenching it with the salsa verde, it was bearable and decent. I'd give the service and ambiance a 4, but only a 2.5 for the 2 food items we tried, very mediocre. 3 star overall based off of our limited experience. read more

Stayed at the Tommie so came up for my Welcome Drink and a bite to eat during the week and was greeted by some really nice hostesses. Amazing vibes in there. Pretty big bar area with tons of lounge style seating indoor and covered outdoor. Bartenders were super friendly and accommodating. A great spot for weekday happy hour with coworkers. The food was a little over priced for the portions, especially the Caesar salad. The homemade croutons were good tho, and the sunflower seeds were a nice addition to the salad. Came here for dinner while In Austin staying at the Thompson. Got there at 6 pm and told no tables for 2 for rest of the night so sat at the bar. Ordered drinks, chips and salsa for $8. Chips were thick and a bit greasy. 3 different salsas served. Ordered a chopped salad which was ok and not really chopped. Chicken fajitas took a while to get. All they were was mixed white and dark meat shredded chicken and 3 corn tortillas. Kinda boring with no toppings. Came with rice and beans. Nothing to write home about. Ambiance was fine. read more

Came here for a dinner with 5 other friends! There was a lot of seating, and the patio has a nice rooftop view of the city! Definitely a nice place for an outing with friends. The food was good, but nothing extraordinary. A solid take on elevated Mexican food. We ordered the fajitas and the tacos. This is a really fancy "Mexican" restaurant inside the Hyatt on the 4th floor. The decor is very trendy and they have a rooftop patio with cabanas next to a really pretty pool that is for hotel guests only. It's on the pricy side and that can be expected because you're paying for an incredible view of the skyline and to lounge under an umbrella while being served cocktails and food. We ordered Micheladas, Chips and Guacamole and added fresh lobster as well as an order of carne asada fajitas and shrimp fajitas. Both came with tortillas made in house, cilantro rice and pinto beans. The Micheladas were watered down so we ordered an extra beer to add to them. The chips and guacamole were incredible! The lobster was very fresh and they put pomegranate seeds in it - obviously not typical but it worked. The carne asada we sent back. It was full of fat and not the kind that melts in your mouth but the kind that hurts to chew. The shrimp was seasoned and cooked very well and I could not stop eating the cilantro rice. I hate sending food back but the waiter and the manager were super apologetic and didn't charge us for that and comped our drinks. We were not expecting that but were very grateful they were willing to do so. I would definitely come back and try other things. The ambiance is worth the visit either way. read more

The views are absolutely beautiful here but unfortunately I can't say the same for the food. The waiter was a bit snarky and cut me off. I find that rude, but maybe others don't. Anyway, the beef fajita was dry and not seasoned to anyone's taste at our 6 adult person's table. My order was completely forgotten and when we asked the waiter to come back, he circled other things for a while before finally coming around. No apology or anything and couldn't communicate well. I ordered the power bowl and everything was refrigerator cold except for the egg which wasn't cooked the way I ordered. It also didn't match the ingredients list at all to what the menu had me expect. Menu list: Quinoa Fried egg Pistachio romesco Sweet potato Plantains Chayote Edamame Salsa macha What I received Scrambled egg Quinoa What appeared to be a scoop of dried potato chunks in a cold ball? Chayote Edamame Pomegranate (pickled maybe) Cucumber I'm assuming they ran out of a bunch of things and improvised which isn't wrong, but a heads up to ensure I'll still like the dish beforehand would have been nice, or a bit of a concern for allergies. Was in town for work all week, at the last minute we all decided to head out for an early dinner. Someone suggested this spot, and we were able to get a reservation for our group of around 10. Our waitress Jordan was FANTASTIC! She put up with our group and was great at bouncing around to all of our different personalities. She was great at answering our drink questions, and our teammate who doesn't drink had questions about the mocktails, and she was just as excited to talk about them Jordan was definitely the best part of our afternoon, but the food and drinks were also incredible. Everything was so fresh and delicious. I particularly enjoyed the guacamole! We also got a bluefin tuna appetizer that people really liked. For my entree, I had the wagyu beef fajitas. They were tender and delicious and I really enjoyed the fresh corn tortillas. I grabbed a Pic of my coworkers torta because it was beautiful. She enjoyed it a lot! We learned that this was their soft open, and I'm even more impressed to learn that they were still so new. Everyone enjoyed the meal and service, and we already have plans to go back. WORST staff experience I've had in a long time. First of all, we were traveling to Austin for a friend's bday and made all of our reservations weeks in advance. Our dinner reservation was at 9:30pm (already very late for a dinner). We got there on time for our reservation and we were very polite to the hostesses. They asked us to wait just a minute for our table to be ready and we happily did so. We checked in again after 30 minutes and they were not apologetic in the slightest. Unpleasant, snarky, and began to laugh at us, telling us they were "working on it". I've worked in the restaurant industry, it is truly not hard to put a smile on your face and be kind to patrons. All they had to do was be kind and apologize for the wait. The manager came over and was also INCREDIBLY rude as the hostesses continued to be snarky, make comments, and laugh at us. Definitely put a damper on our dining experience to say the least. If you are looking for somewhere to spend your money in Austin, I would recommend taking your business elsewhere. read more

This place is absolutely delicious, we originally chose this place because of the cute patio and decor but the food is out of this world. The ambiance of the restaurant is super cute and lot of variety of seating inside/outside, we do wish they would've had heaters outside so we could enjoy the patio in the colder months, but we chose inside seating instead. They had a dj on Friday night which was a great addition. The food speaks for itself, the carnitas are some of the best tacos I've had in my life melt in your mouth and paired with the salsa absolutely amazing. The drinks were great as well. At times we had to order at the bar for a drink. And when I did order a drink, the girl said ok, and just walked away. Which I assumed she was making it, she didn't say anything like "it'll be right out". Not sure how long I waited but I never got the drink, and the bar ended up closing... Arriba Abajo is a rare portal to a truly Central American/Mexico City vibe that totally makes me miss the city, culture, food, people, etc. The ambience is incredible and all we wanted to do was check into hotel and stay for a few days. 4th floor roof of The Thompson hotel next to the pool. So great evening atmosphere. They just opened and it was a Sunday night. So it was super chill vibe. The actress said this was Wax Myrtle until there was a small fire. So they rebranded to this. The rock shrimp was yummy but maybe a Little too heavy on the mayo sauce. The chop salad was good but needed crunch so asked to add coupons which were delicious. Maybe a little too sweet for the salad tho as it wasn't designed to go on the chop. Service was friendly but inconsistent with checking in. I could chalk up most of the hiccups to being a soft launch. It shows promise. And the atmosphere can't be beat. read more

We went to this establishment today for the first time, what a huge mistake the food was horrible and the customer service was unacceptable. This was probably the worst food /experience that I've had in a long time. My daughter and my sister ordered the steak and eggs fajitas. First of all, i've eaten beef jerky that was more tender than that steak. They both ordered their eggs over light/easy when the food arrived, my daughter's yoke was busted and 100% cooked. My sister's eggs were perfect plump and runny like eggs over easy are supposed to be. Our server was very combative and said the yolk is supposed to be busted if you order your eggs over light/easy, which is definitely not true. She was not knowledgeable of the menu at all. I spent most of my brunch explaining to her the differences between different alcoholic beverages. The Carnitas were so dry that they will choke you to death. I ordered the pork belly sandwich, which had a decent flavor, but it was on a burnt 6 inch bun and the pork belly itself was only A few inches long hidden under a ton of vegetables. We had to stop and get something to eat on our way home very disappointing. Our drinks were good, if we decide to go back we will definitely just sit at the bar and order drinks only, it's super cute just be sure to eat before you go!!!! We came in with an open mind, knowing that it was rated 3.9 on yelp. We said "it can't be that bad, let's give it a try. First off the vibe was nice, DJ nice atmosphere. It was all down here from there. Guacamole - stay away super watery, super tiny. They gave about 8 chips for it. Then we had crudo, tiny portion of fish. Finally, fajitas for dinner.
