They are doing it Right! First, there is large and varied selection of their wines: reds,whites & specialties...they ate really Good!!! I honestly find Most Ct vineyard wines unpalatable (especially Reds). Not the case here. Second, they have a consistent & reliable live-music schedule. Friday nights & Sunday afternoons. Third, pricing is on par or better than lots of the Ct wineries. Fo...fun gift shop with Yankee Candles! Plenty of indoor and out door seating. Lots of parking and conveniently located directly on the main road, Rte 66. YouHAVE to try this place!. Stoped in again ..it's gotten even better! The selection of wines has grown and the outdoor areas have even more seating. (Which is great for the social distancing issue) We had a bottle of Ruby and one of the flatbreads ...both delicious! Stopped here on my way back from Albany. The grounds and the eclectic atmosphere that others have mentioned is really worth it. As far as the wines are concerned the pumpkin and the apple ones are really worth tasting. The slushy (especially the mango one) is also a good bet. I also found the prices fair. How were they? TERRIBLE. The host at 5 churches was incredibly rude. Our waiter was O.K. Alvarium had NOOO control over what was going on. Worst wine I've ever had in my life - and we tried a wide variety. We got a tasting flight for wine and one for cider, and they were both terrible. It was as though they mixed random stuff into their wine. The Sunset white was fine - I'd be okay with drinking that again. And the others in my party thought the Riverbend was okay. But all the others were horrible. All 3 of us agreed that one of them tasted overwhelmingly like baby powder... bizarre. Many of them had non-food like tastes... it was so weird. Atmosphere was nice, which is why I give the second star - we went on one of the last nice fall days this past season. It was kinda chilly, so it'd be nice if they pulled out some heaters (not sure if they have now because they did say they were open year round). This place is a totally different experience from other wineries. 1st, its right on the main rd, 2nd, it's an old store with a ton of random items for sale, all of which are fun, wine themed, and interesting. The bartender we had was awesome, lots of fun, great personality and laid back with the tasting experience. There are a TON of wine choices which I appreciate, especially for 10 bucks. They do not allow beverages outside , we were told by 3 different people , wasn't that thrilled by the repetition . They allow for food , we like to feast with our copious amounts of wine . River bend is excellent - more dry and also fruity, my friend liked the Apple wine a lot from the tasting . A nice place to visit , have been here several times. Always worth checking out . This is such a nice vineyard! My fiancé and I got a wine tasting package off Groupon and we really enjoyed it. The outdoor patio is so pretty to just hang out on an evening listening to their live music and having a glass of their delicious wine! The frozen wine slushees are delicious too!! The prices are great and they even have a cute little shop to purchases items. Many might find this place quaint and cute on a quieter day. I found it to be overcrowded and hectic. It is way too small for the amount of people that they tried to pack in there. The wine was not good, but the slushies (which were free additional samples) were delightful. If anything, get one of those. Unfortunately the wine had no body to it, and almost tasted watered down. The bartender was fine, but It was very obvious that she was also completely overwhelmed by the amount of people in there. Fortunately, there was a groupon for this place, so we got a platter of cheese and crackers along with our tasting for half price. I'll be straight up when I say don't waste your time with anything other than slushees. Those wine slushees are actually the best tasting alcoholic drink I've ever had. I got a mix of mango and sangria and oh my god those were good. You could barely taste the alcohol but it also wasn't so sweet that I felt like I was getting cavities as I was drinking. They're also really aesthetically pleasing. I like the grounds too, though it's not super large, they have such a great patio with an outdoor fireplace that adds intimacy. read more

We visited Arrigoni Winery on a Saturday to use a Groupon that included a tasting for 4 and 2 cheese platters. The place was pretty busy, but we were served quickly. Arrigoni has a charmed country store feel in the front and the tasting room is in back complete with all sorts of wine lover merchandise. The tasting for 4, 4 glasses, and 2 cheese platters was a solid Groupon value. That being said the wines on the sampling list are not up to par with other nearby vineyards/wineries and the additional tasting for $1 a try was definitely on the higher side. Overall the price per bottle was mid-range to pricier based on the taste. Also it would have been nice to have been able to sit down and enjoy the cheese platters and wines instead of standing. There are some unique aspects of Arrigoni that makes it worth a try. First of all the seating areas available in the back of the vineyard are great. You can sit right by the vines or enjoy the shade up the hill in the gazebo and truly treasure warmer weather. Wines that we enjoyed included the Driftwood, the Chocolate Love, which is truly incredible, and the Sugar House, which is a maple fruit wine that makes for a great dessert pairing. All in all Arrigoni is worth the Groupon and sharing a bottle in the company of friends in their back patio, but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way for the experience. read more

The tasting room needs updating. The inside area gives an old feel, it has a lot of signs and trinkets. Outside they played live music and offered different seating options. There are 2 tents with ample tables. We did the wine sampling since it was our first time there. The wines are not that good, but if you are a begininer, you might find something you like as the wines are made with fruit. If you love wines, the wine tasting may not be for you. We didn't try others so who knows there might be others that are good. The service was ok, they did not offer much about the wine. The most information. This winery is an abomination. From the very second you open the door, it is an assault on the senses, in every way. Upon entering you are immediately in the midst of kitschy wine-related trinkets, wearables, and other cliche dust collectors. To the left is a candle shop. A CANDLE SHOP. In the midst of a winery. Oh, and let's not forget the Christmas all year 'round shop upstairs that's full of dusty Christmas crap. We were also lucky enough to arrive on a night where there was a loud acoustic crooner in the corner on the right. There were so many people milling about the various identity-questionable rooms that we didn't even know where to go. We wandered into the only place where people actually seemed interested in wine, only to be ushered out and told to sign in at the kitschy store's check-out counter. We then waited awkwardly in the candle shop for ten minutes for our turn. Our Groupon included a five wine tasting, and a small cheese plate. The first wine, River Bend white, was the only one that wasn't horrid. After a tiny taste of each of the rest, I had to finish them tequila-shot style. The cheese plate was awkward, with a few grimy looking cheese cubes that were clearly from a large bag of pre-cut cheese, accompanied by just a couple crackers. Bizarre. The servers pouring our wine spouted off facts about grapes we'd never heard of, and disappeared before we could actually ask anything about them. After the tasting, we wanted to try something that we could have with the picnic dinner I had packed for us to enjoy at the winery. We sampled the frozen peach bellini and the frozen sangria, both of which almost gave us diabetes immediately. The regular sangria was also a flop. The experience was so bad that we didn't even stay to eat the dinner I packed, and we left in such a sensory overloaded tizzy that we forgot our wine glasses (not like we wanted to remember this disaster anyways). If you're looking for a hectic experience that involves bad wine, questionable snacks, and the opportunity to purchase a "Wine O'clock" apron and an entirely new candle collection, Arrigoni is the place for you! read more

Sorry, but this place just did not do it for me. The exterior would make you believe you are entering a country Christmas craft shop. Walk through the door, and you are in a Yankee Candle shop, inhaling a melange of scents and obliterating your palate. Look overhead, and there is the second floor Christmas shop. Step into the tasting room, which is full to the brim with bedazzled shirts and tacky wine tzozchkies. I was completely turned off before I even got to the wine. The wine... It's just not very good. I politely and quietly did my tasting, but could not find one that I enjoyed except for the chocolate wine, which is something I probably wouldn't want more than a few sips of anyway. The maple syrup wine? No. Just no. The sangria? The strongest flavor I was getting was Sprite. These were definitely my least favorite on the trail. At that point in my day, I was starting to feel a little snacky, and saw a sign saying that they offer cheese plates. But then, I happened to see someone who had one, and it was those little cubes of orange cheddar that come in the big bag at the grocery store. No, no, no. On the positive side, the people helping us were really nice and friendly. I feel bad giving them a lousy review, because I'd like to see them succeed. Arrigoni is still fairly young, so hopefully they will work out some of these issues and become a better winery. Because with so many others in the area that have better wine, better ambience, better snacks and better scenery, I think it will be hard for them to compete if they don't step up their game. read more

Came to Arrigoni around 5:20 on a Sunday. Called ahead of time and told us they closed at 6:00. No problem. During our tasting (4 people) we declared we only drink white and asked if we could substitute our reds for white. They immediately said "no." Okay no problem. The 4 of us each had 3 additional wines ($1 each) for our tastings. Two of us ordered a bottle of wine and when they paid for their share of the bill was overcharged by $19. The server didn't apologize, just shrugged her shoulders and said she would get a manager. Unacceptable. Manager came and fixed, then she charged the rest of our bill. Said "2 tastings and 5 additional wines each, right?" No it was 3 each. She said okay then poured me the incorrect wine. I'm easy going so I drank what she poured me. Another party was outside, and the father (while we were tasting) asked for 20 glasses of sangria. Another server had a huge attitude with him and degraded him in front of us. Which made us feel extremely uncomfortable. We finished our wine on the patio(around 6:20) and a young girl with long dark hair who was very sweet(and even remembered my friend and her mom)came out and let us know it was last call. No problem. At that time I opened the door. A man(who earlier identified himself as a manager) stopped me and said "were closed" I said "oh I know I just need a restroom" he said "were closed, there's a porta potty out back" at this same time he yelled at my friend for standing in a patch of rocks, indicating he would have to fix them himself. (Spoiler alert: nothing was even remotely touched or moved.) finally the very sweet girl let us inside for the restroom. The same manager stopped me and said "were closed but I'll let you go anyway." I replied "no problem but if someone would have said final bathroom call, I would have been sure to make it inside by then." To which he replied "have you never been to a bar before? They don't do a final bathroom call!" Finally I said "a bar would still allow me to use the bathroom after last call" bear in mind I'm a manager of an internationally famous corporate restaurant in midtown manhattan, and was just looking for the simple courtesy of a bathroom. Have been to six vineyards of the tour so far. And this is the worst service by far. Will never return. read more

I really would like this place to succeed, but can't in good conscience rate this any higher until some changes are made. They have a lot going for them: The service was wonderful. The grounds were charming, covered in snow, and New England pitch perfect. Of 7 wines I tried I liked two: the chocolate red wine, and the river white wine. There are about ten (?) more which mean a few are bound to be good. Now the improvements needed: 1. Fragrance will hinder tasting: Lose the Yankee Candle burning in the wine tasting area. 2. Cheese plate had orange cheese cubes straight out of the grocery store party platter, hunks of Jalepeno cheddar, town house crackers, and Hershey kisses. Se tiny upgrades are needed. Add in some dried fruit, (like apricots) a few nuts, a slightly fancier chocolate, and one interesting stinky cheese or a hard cheese. These aren't expensive upgrades but will greatly upgrade the whole experience. 3. Move the kitchy gift / Christmas items away from the wine tasting area. 4. Long term I would separate the wine tasting completely from the Yankee candles/Santas workshop/gift shop. It's so great to see something like this in the area, and hope to see it improve and grow. I loved how we were able to keep the wine glass after the tasting and the tasting price was very reasonable!! My boyfriend and I saw a Groupon for this winery and jumped at it. We have been to many of the CT wineries and truly enjoyed every single one of them, but this was one we had never been to... The Groupon advertised a tasting, cheese plate and 2 glasses of wine. When we arrived we really had no idea where to go. The entire front of the building is a strange shop that mixes bedazzled t-shirts with candles and Christmas decorations. When we found the tasting room in the back, the staff was not friendly at all. The cheese plate looks like the standard cheese squares and crackers you would get at the grocery store for a Sunday football get together. The wine was by far the worst wine we have tried in CT. After our tasting of 5 wines, we both opted for glasses of something we hadn't tasted in the hopes it may be better. Not trying to be critical, but the smaller CT wineries that focus on 2-5 wines end up offering much better wine than this winery who is doing a mediocre job at best of making 10+ styles of wine. read more

I have to say I was quite disappointed during my afternoon at Arrigoni. It definitely feels more like a touristy stop than a relaxing afternoon in a romantic vineyard. When you walk in, you are surrounded by wine paraphernalia and trinkets. It almost looks like things I'd buy for a bachelorette party or cute/funny gifts for a girlfriend's birthday. The wine tastings include 5 wines to try plus a signature wine glass. Now the wines were very sweet, which is not to my personal taste. They had some specialty apple wines too which I had to try, but again they were way too sweet for my liking. They do have great outdoor space with a porch and extra tables under the back tent in the grass. During our visit they also had live music which you can enjoy if you sit in the porch seating area. My favorite part was the open field where we sat out in the sun to drink our wine. Unfortunately, we couldn't do so without having the staff come up to us to check on what we were doing. I didn't think a picnic of wine and cheese would be considered suspicious at a winery. Truth be told, I won't be likely to return to Arrigoni. The ambience was too retail for me and the wine wasn't anything extra special. read more

Let me start by saying the atmosphere and the grounds are beautiful! And the gift shop has some adorable things. The people who work there are nice for the most part. I was going to meet 10 friends. My friend & I arrived first & told the folks there we would have a party if 10. A nice woman told us the biggest table she had was one to seat 8 in the sun or 6 in the covered patio. She told us we could have the remaining people sit near us, BUT "you are not allowed to put tables together. And let your friends know when they get here or I will have to come out and tell them! No moving tables!" She was very nice, but very serious & clear that that was the rule. Really? The 10 of us were taking up a whole back corner anyway, so some friends just put the tables together anyway when they arrived. Then, when the waitress came by, we asked if it was ok. She said, "of course! We do it all the time! It's no problem!" What the heck? They need to get their stories straight. Then, I went in to talk to the gentleman who was acting like an owner, and he had no time to talk to me - bustling around, almost waving me off, and chatting with folks he obviously knew. Lastly, a bottle of wine is $32 - seems a little steep. And an alleged sangria slushy, although very tasty, is $12 with no detection of alcohol anywhere in it. I guess it's my misunderstanding that something that says "sangria" would have at least some alcohol in it - especially for $12! I might go back because it's pretty and near my friends in CT, but my expectations will not be high. read more
