I am ashamed to say I hadn't been to Arrowine until now. This might be the best beer / wine / cheese store that I've found since moving from Houston a few years back. To top off the amazing selection and quality set up, the guys who work there couldn't have been more awesome. Perry, Neil and Bader obviously love where they work an what they're doing and it totally shows. They were friendly, super helpful and funny - to boot. I promised to never walk in there expecting to get a sandwich in the future and these guys sent me on my way with all of the fixings for a market fresh sandwich. I told them I needed to sit somewhere with WiFi and they pointed me in the right direction. I rarely am so moved by customer service to write a review. Yelpers--This is the wine store for which you've been searching! The selection is thoughfully chosen--balanced with regional representation and by price. Look carefully and you'll find a wine that suits your palette and your pocketbook. Better still--ask any of the wine staff to help you. They are some of the most knowlegeable and helpful group I've encountered. The weekend tastings are a wonderful way to try many similar offerings from different makers--hence you'll learn to distinguish characteristics of wines you love. (and the reps pouring the delicious samples will educate you in a painless way). Also worth noting--as described by Andrew H. and Jennifer S.--the cheese case and charcuterie will make you drool with delight. At Arrowine, you won't hit the glass ceiling so often found in the smaller more commercial wine stores like Best Cellars. And you won't be overwhelmed by choice as is sometimes the case at the Virginia MegaWineStores. There's plenty of staff, so you won't be wandering around looking for someone to ask questions of. With more than 2,500 wines and a constantly evolving and vast selection of American artisanal brews, traditional English ales, Belgian/Trappist ales and much more --- you shouldn't have a problem finding the perfect beverage. I personally also enjoy all the other offerings at Arrowine --- like the huge gourmet case full of cheeses, olives and charcuterie. Don't overlook all the Firehook Bakery breads and H&H Bagels (shipped par baked and frozen straight from NY). And if you aren't convinced that he only stocks the best of the best --- peruse the gourmet groceries section, but not for too long otherwise you'll wind up walking out the door with what you came for AND what you suddenly "needed." That's been my problem in the past (I used to live across the street). The owner is extremely knowledgeable, but isn't always as friendly as he could be. He's forgiven because if you spend just 5 minutes speaking with him you'll quickly realize how passionate he is about wine and what he sells. He seeks out importers and distributors who work with small producers who share his vision and ideals. Admirable. I hate to go against all of the fans here, but I was a bit disappointed by Arrowine. I'll admit, I should have called first since I had three specific winemakers I was hoping to find (one from Santa Barbara, one in Virginia, and one that I discovered at dinner the night before). Given the vast selection everyone raves about I figured that I would be able to find at least one of them, and opted to wing it and just check it out in person. No luck. Which is understandable. But what I expected and didn't get, was a knowledgable and helpful person to take what I was looking for and assist me in finding something similar. Again, no luck. Eventually I sought help and picked out two bottles that were recommended by the staff. I'm still in search of a place that carries a good inventory of Virginia wines, and there weren't any more options here than I could find at the grocery store. It just wasn't impressive enough service or selection to make it worth a special trip. But I want to like Arrowine - so I think I'll finish off those two bottles, and if they are good, stop back for a second chance visit during the weekend tasting hours. read more

Everything that you could dream for in a wine and cheese specialty store. The staff is very helpful and they host wine tastings on Friday and Saturday. The wines are often not the run of the mill and therefore allow you to gain exposure to more exotic grapes and locations. The cheesecase has a very broad selection as well. Again, the staff will help point you in the right direction if you don't know the name of the cheese; taste your way to what you're looking for. I try to go once a week for the tastings and often come out with specialty beer or snacks as well. read more

I've been Arrowine about 6 times now and I always have a good experience. I only come for the cheese but they seem to have a pretty good wine selection. They have a decent selection of micro-brew beers available as well. They also have charcuterie, bread, crackers, olives, dried fruits, nuts, pastes, etc. to make a rad cheese-plate. Their selection of cheese is fairly diverse and they get new cheeses often. The best part is they are more than willing to have you try cheeses to figure out which ones you want. It helps to say "I'll take some of that" as you go so you're not the guy sampling 15 cheeses but actually only buying $2 of cheddar. This is harder to do when there are a lot of people obviously so I like going close to opening so I can get some good one-on-one with the cheese-monger. read more

This place is heaven. Cured meats, aged cheeses, craft beer, and an extremely well-curated selection of domestic and imported wines. Holy crap! Anytime I have a dinner party to head to, I always stop here. I pick up some awesome cheeses and a couple charcuterie selections and a couple bottles of wine. The guys behind the counter are very helpful and make recommendations based upon what you like. They're always willing to slice a sample of salami or cheese for you... The staff is also very knowledgeable about their wines. I'm a fan of big Napa cabs, zins, etc. They have all that extremely well-covered, but they've also made some great recommendations that are outside of my sweet-spot. read more

Arrowine was suggested to me by my trusted Beer King Kevin back in Virginia Beach when I wanted to find a store with a good selection of harder to find stuff that the box stores don't carry. I was on a mission for a beer from Canada by Parallel 49 called the Salty Scot... a delish salted caramel scotch ale that is very difficult to find around here, as we aren't in Canada and it is/was a seasonal brew. So, trusting Kevin with my craving, I give them a call and talk to the "trusty beer guy" and he is not only very impressive, but super welcoming on the phone. And for the people in the DMV area, that is a very big plus coming from this laid back beachy girl... ;-) Most of the time, people are in a rush to tie up a conversation, but he went into detail about the beers he had, the release dates, shelf dates and was willing to hold some of the beer that I had been craving forever! When we get there, the store has this pungent smell that my hubbs loved... cheese.. all kinds, meats of any kind, heart stopping, heart stopping, Italian, German, fatty, lean, you name it... it was the end all of our pay check if we let it. Oh and truffles? How do you like them? In salt? Sugar? Honey? Olive Oil? White? Black? well... you get my point... Now again, more beer than wine, but the beer they do have is the harder to find imports that we love. Local owned, delicious food & spices, great beers and wines... what more could you ask for? Arrowine is a great wine shop. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and will point you to lower priced options first. They have a great selection of French, Spanish and Italian wines. They distribute a number of small production producers from France and Spain that are hard to find elsewhere. The buyers definitely prefer more restrained European style wines over big fruit bombs from California. They key is to sign-up for their email list - where they offer weekly specials. The specials are unbelievable - varying from bargain bottles from Spain at $8.99 per piece to Clarendon Hills Shiraz and Grenache (a HOT Australian producer) at the best prices in the country. The Internet specials routinely offer fantastic wine at the best possible prices. The cheese, bread and charcuterie are also top notch - sliced properly and good quality. They offer two tastings a week (I think Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons - wines offered at the tasting are always on sell at case discount, even if you only buy one bottle). Wine dinners at local restaurants are also offered on a regular basis. This is a top-notch wine shop! read more

I love wine. If I had more time and fewer children, I'd drink much more of it. I think I'm bordering on oenophile, but I don't want to toot my own horn. I tell you this because I know a little something about wine, but am always happy to learn more, especially from knowledgeable wine store or winery employees. It's always fun to discover new wines, learn something and carry on a conversation with a knowledgable source who shares an interest in wine. Don't expect that experience at Arrowine, unless you pull up in front of the shop in your Bentley, cravat adjusted just-so, and aged at least 45 years. Call it snootiness, snobbery or just economic-profiling, nearly everybody at Arrowine will look down their nose at you. You almost feel bad about approaching the staff, and they will almost never approach you, despite any clueless looks you may display. The shop's selection itself is good, though they have many bottles I've seen elsewhere. What they don't have, they'll order for you (though forget to call you when it comes in, at least in my case). Their e-mail specials if you sign-up, are ok, but usually only reward case buyers (i.e. min. 12 bottles). Overall, prices are expensive, usually a few bucks more a bottle - but I guess you would expect that from a low-volume, independent wine store. I only go to Arrowine because it's convenient to my house. Total Beverage in McLean has a much larger selection and approachable staff despite being the Costco of alcoholic beverages. Speaking of Costco, some nice bottles are available there as well. I'd skip Arrowine if I were you, unless you meet the aforementioned criteria (Bentley, cravat, middle-age) and have extra money to burn. read more

This is one of my favorite wine stores. Its tastings are legendary, and the producers it brings in are breathtaking, Arrowine has something for every price range (even mine, which is well below $20 a bottle) but is happy to pour you a taste of the good stuff. Subscribe to their e-mail list to find out about special tasting events. They also have cheese and meat -- and I'm not talking Velveeta and frozen pork chops. Arrowine frequently brings in local meat or cheese producers to talk about their wares. I really wish I could go more often; my only problem with this place is the fact that it's hard to get there via public transit, upon which I largely depend. But I make the effort every few weeks to check out their Friday or Saturday tastings. So should you! read more

I started coming here in January of this year, and over the last 7 months, have been here probably 9 or 10 times. I now feel like I know what this store offers. This biggest appeal for me is their 3x weekly newsletter offering very good prices on some very good wines, especially Tues & Thurs. Their Friday emails are the "door buster" emails, which are inexpensive (but good quality for the price usually) wines in the $8-13 range, worth buying by the case. The Tues & Thurs emails can occasionally be ultra high-end (pushing $90-100/bottle or more on occasion) but are usually closer to the $15-30/bottle range by the case or the 1/2 case. These emails offer significant discounts for 1/2 case purchase with a further savings on full case. We all love great deals and that's why I started shopping here a lot. A second thing I like about this store is, due to the fact that I don't always buy email specials, they have a pretty good selection of interesting wines you might like to buy one bottle at a time . . . made by non-mainstream (read: mass produced) brands (producers) and regions which the average wine drinker wouldn't usually know about. To be sure, there are plenty of inexpensive wines for the beginning level or bargain seeking wine drinker, but more experienced wine drinkers can also find lesser-known, small quantity producers making wines in less than famous appelations that are wonderful, and priced very well for the quality. Grower champagnes are one example; Loire reds are another. Some interesting Tuscan finds, etc. I consider the service to be about what I want--not inattentive and not overbearing. The wine staff out in the aisles are very knowledgeable. I like that. They let me browse, and when I need help, it doesn't usually take long to get it. They also help you carry your large purchases to the car--they (almost) always offer when I walk out with a case or more. This is a great overall wine (and other assorted foods) store with owners and employees who seem to me to be committed to finding interesting wines for wine drinkers of all budget ranges and knowledge levels. They do such a brisk business and I come infrequently enough that I haven't got to know the staff and they don't remember me enough to know what I like yet, but that's fine. They always do their best to listen and respond to what I ask for. I'll keep coming back when I'm in Arlington. read more

By now, Arrowine is an Arlington institution. The top level staff are friendly and knowledgeable, able to help you out if you have questions about an obscure type of grape or if you just want to find a bottle for under $15 that'll still impress everyone at the dinner party. Below that level is the conveyor belt of kids getting their feet wet in the world of commerce in just the right environment- locally owned and operated, developing relationships with the neighbors, taking pride in making things better. This is definitely my favorite wine shop anywhere. I am far from an expert and most of my previous dealings with wine have been uninspiring at best. But when I started to really enjoy wine, Arrowine really nailed it home for me. I have never had a bad wine in the store no matter the price. Some of their best wines have been under $10. I was asked very specific questions about what flavors and textures I liked in a cheese and was guided to something great. The meat was sliced, layed out, and wrapped in paper so nicely. I originally went here because I saw that they were one of the only places is in the area that carried Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream. The selection of that ice cream is great! They have a whole refrigerator full of it. Upon going in, I found that it is a great place for wine/beer/cheese as well, and everyone is really friendly! I really like that they do wine/beer/cheese tastings and the staff is knowledgeable about their products. It's a nice little spot in a pleasant area with other restaurants/shops. Can I just say I love this place? I love this place. One of my favorite things to do is to walk to Arrowine and chat up the cheesemongers and then tasting (and ultimately buying) a bunch of cheeses and charcuteries. The staff is extremely helpful, kind and knowledgeable. They also have a tremendous selection of wine (duh!) and beer. Plus, the sale really fruity olive oils and the (elusive) white truffle oil, as well as vinegars, crackers, cookies, etc. Oh, and did I mention they sell coffee? Oh yes, Kill Devil is the name of the brand. Very delicious varieties. Wine tastings AND beer tastings?! Every week?! Somebody pinch me! Came here with Hyunoo P. to check out the beer tasting of the week: Troegs. It was pretty awesome. I ended going home with a 6 pack of the Troegenator Double Bock (highly recommended!). Close runner up would've been the Troegs Sunshine Pils (aka: sunshine/ summer in a glass). I wandered around the rest of the store to check out Arrowine's other offerings-- their wine selections cover all regions and luckily, various price ranges. The selection of craft beers is small but decently sized, so be sure to not overlook it. Don't forget to peruse the cheese and charcuterie sections, too. They also have other wine/ cheese accoutrement (cheese knives/ loaves of bread/ bottle openers etc). Weird (but awesome) thing they sell are big bags of those fancy Route 11 potato chips. The last three times I have been to arrow wine, I found the staff to be condescending and arrogant. I have shopped here for literally years, and they still do not allow in store shopping. And when you call for an order they tell you they will text you when their ready. I'm sorry I am paying for a service and I am getting none. While as a nurse I realize that the pandemic is still going on, this does not in any way excuse their haughty behavior. If is safe as organizations all over the US know to limit the customers to five or six in the store, to make customers wear masks, and clean their hands, but that is not what is happening here. I guess I will find other places to shop for wine and cheese. Not sure if this is being driven by owners or what, but it's not a good look. read more

If you rush, you can probably taste 10 great Spanish wines right now. I like the wine selection, but I also find that I get excited because of one esoteric selection and then can't find the next one that it reminds me of. My husband and I are huge cheese fans so I couldn't resist the chance to try this place out when I saw the Living Social offer some time ago. We had a touch of trouble finding the place, but that was the fault of google maps more than anything else. Arrowine has a massive yellow awning with their name across it, making it easy to see even if you wind up on the wrong side of the bank parking lot like we did. We got to the store about a half hour before closing and were a bit disappointed to find they had already started putting cheese away in their walk-in. They had left the name tags out, but I'm a very visual shopper, especially when it comes to food, and I don't know all that much about chese in the first place. I think we missed out on trying some cheeses that would have caught our eye, had they still been visible. Regardless, we had a very good experience. The young man who helped us was very knowledgable and had some great suggestions. He asked what we were looking for, brought cheese back out of the back, cut generous samples, and was very friendly the entire time. I was a little worried that we would feel rushed, coming as late as we did, but tht wasn't the case at all. When we told him our pan was to make a decadent three-cheese mac-n-cheese, he worked hard to come up with a combination that would balance well. (He was spot on, too. It came out awesome.). He even gave us one of the cheeses for free since it pretty much melted into goo as soon as it hit the container. We left with some really top quality cheeses, six or so, and only two of which I was even passingly familiar with. He recommended this amazing chive and onion cheddar which was super creamy and perfect on crackers, with eggs, pretty much on anything, or on nothing at all. That cheese alone is worth coming back for. If it wasn't 2:00 in the morning, I'd go buy a pound of it right now. I browsed a bit while my husband talked cheese. There is a nice wine selection and prices seem reasonable. The beer section is small; definitely not where I would go for a craft brew, but that's not what they do here, so I don't fault them. There were some beautiful looking meats; I will definitely buy some of the hard salamis next time to go with that awesome cheese, Prices are high, some a little bit more than we thought they should be, but the selection is incredible and staff very, very helpful. read more

Cheese, wine, chocolate and beer...c'mon...does it get better than this? Maybe if the shop was in Maui...but reality is that the shop is close to my home and that trumps it all. I had always heard about Arrowine but never visited it. Took a Living Social coupon ($25 for $50 worth...oh yes!!) to move my cheese loving self over there. I was treated to samples of cheeses before I made my selection. Humboldt Fog, Tres Leches (new one for me), Cotswald (familiar go-to and yummy) and another one. Amadei Chocolate (thank you for selling this!) and some delicious crackers. They have great knowledge and a stellar selection. Free parking behind the store - big plus since my paycheck has shrunk due to reasons beyond my control (what really happened there? ignorance is bliss sometimes). read more

I have shopped here a few times recently (and a few times a couple years ago or so) with a friend who raves about the place. I actually have an extensive background in specialty high-end food retail, and saw several things quite differently than her. The one thing we did agree on though is that there is a good variety of excellent cheeses, charcuterie, wine, beer and sundry grocery items. That is the most important thing, but my knowledge of successfully running small shops like these caused me to notice the woeful deficiencies. Let me sum up the biggest problem in one word: Merchandising. The shelves and floor displays for beer and wine are unattractive, outdated, poorly organized and hard to shop. The floor stacks of beer and wine lack signage to talk up the product. Going into detail would take too long for the purpose of this review. The cheese and meat cases are also old and gross looking. The lighting is bad and overall the entire store has a dingy, cramped and unkempt feeling to it. The sales staff are pretty friendly overall, minus a few grumps and oafs, though a couple were rather deficient in product knowledge. I received very amateur advice from a wine salesman that resulted in me wasting $40 on a bottle. Sometime between my recent visit and my last visit of a couple years ago they installed some large TV screens that are probably the stupidest addition (not to mention waste of money when so many other things need correcting) to a gourmet store. They add zero value to the shopping experience and in fact subtract value as it only causes distraction from the experience as sales staff are standing there watching TV instead of helping me. Who knows, maybe the management intends to turn the shop into a sports bar... I still give it three stars because most of the products sold here are of high quality, but they really need to get their entire operation out of the 1980's and into the 21st century. THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. They have a huge selection of cheese and charcuterie. You could easily spend hundreds of dollars here if you wanted to host a big party/wine & cheese event. If you find a voucher through Groupon or another site, I would purchase ASAP and gift them to your friends. I love the prima donna cheese, brie (all types), and different proscuittos and sopressatas! My favorite place to get specialty beer. they have all the Heavy Seas beers and Hitachino! They have a wide selection of wine with a specialist that will put you in the right direction. Even the guy behind the counter knows cheese and beer to a "T". He recognized me weeks later when I came in again to find a new beer to try. This is the perfect neighborhood beer, wine and cheese store. Their cheese choices are great. A little pricey but worth it. The people there know their stuff (to my knowledge but then again I'm not a professional). Always friendly and willing to help. They also have beer and wine tastings during the week. read more

Arrowine is so comprehensively specialized that it is almost intimidating. They have great selections of pretty much anything you would ever need for a fancy wine & cheese party. I usually venture in there when I'm looking for a gift wine (aka a wine that I can't conscientiously purchase from the grocery store) and almost always need a recommendation, which the super nice staff always gladly provide. It's a bit on the pricey side, but in general I enjoy the extensive selection of wines and local cheese and meats. Highly recommend this business. read more

Arrowine is my opinion is the best wine store in Arlington - they have so many things going for them - so let's jump right into it 1. A wide variety of wine from around the world - not only do they have wine from all the major regions, but they have variety of styles for each region and across a multitude of price points 2. Their staff know was they are talking about 3. The store is well organized - the wines are easy to find 4. I'm not a huge beer drinker - but their selection looked great 5. They do real wine tasting - not the "here is a plastic cup and one wine to taste" - last Saturday I must have tasted 15-20 wines from the small glass wine glasses (real glass makes a difference). On Friday - I was there and tasted another 5. 6. They offer a 10% discount on any bottle that you buy from the wine tasting selection 7. There selection of wines for the wine tastings range the price point - they were tasting bottles that ranged in price from $16 - $60. 8. Parking is a breeze (they have plenty of parking behind the store and on the streets around it - just not in front of the place - the spots disappear quickly) The only downside that they have is that they don't have Coravin CO2 replacement cartridges (unless they added them recently) nor do they have wine glasses for purchase. But alas - I won't ding them for that. read more

Every other store on the block and in the neighborhood have been open for months. Arrowine = no entrance, no browsing, keep out. Ahhhh, I feel at home here. I've worked in wine retail for a few years so I'm speaking literally. It felt great to see some of my old friends (Vietti, Catena Alta, Domaine Serene, et al) smiling from their shelves, each begging me to take them home as I passed by. So all in all I approve of the selection, I think the pricing is appropriate for the area, and the staff is welcoming but not overwhelming. I'm also a huge cheese fan, so it was fun to scope out their selections, which by the way are super expensive. Worth a splurge if you've got a great bottle in your hand though. Proximity is always a good start. This place is within walking distance from me. I have noticed that younger people seem to give more negative feedback. I'd like to comment on that. Wine is just a beverage, get over yourselves. If you carry that "sophistication" stigma about wine around with you, you'll probably have the same experiences everywhere until you are old and give the same snooty looks to other patrons. I walked in with interest in learning and lots of dumb questions, and they were very helpful and excited to share their knowledge, and recommended wines and cheeses. I got to taste any of the cheeses I wanted, and their FREE Saturday wine tastings are awesome. I need to go to more of these. I wasn't going to post anything just because I'm lazy (hehe) but I read someone else's review about their staff not being that great towards newer patrons but I have to 100% disagree. Currently visiting my girlfriend here in Virginia and I will say that I am young, I look young and I am an absolute newbie when it comes to wine. I went in there clueless, one man helped me out to pick up a good wine. The other man not only confirmed it was good, but also gave me some wine glasses when I asked where I can buy some. GREAT wine and cheese selection! Only two things i did not like about this place is the parking and some of the beer was overpriced. I know it is a select craft store but some craft beers, especially VA based craft beers should not be an extra 2-3$ above everywhere else. Besides that, good place. Stopped by here on a thurs evning to grab some wine and cheese for my buddies house. They were very helpful. Associate helped me pick a Cab wine that was similar to one i frequently enjoyed. Also they rec some manchego cheese for the wine i purchased. I really enjoyed it and if i am in Arlington, I would come back and would get another of their recommendations!
