The food at Art House Cafe was great, but the experience was not. We arrived when it opened and despite only having one other patron, the service was incredibly slow. By the time we got our drinks, the place had filled up. There is very little sound dampening here, so the sounds of every conversation echoed through the dining area and made it very hard for those at my table to hear each other. Our table was also disturbingly wobbly, which made the meal feel precarious. The food was excellent. The mocha was large and delicious, and my chorizo breakfast pizza offered a fun new taste for me. The biscuit meals were better than what we expected - in fact, we wouldn't even call them "biscuits." I went for brunch to celebrate a friend's birthday. The place gets packed right after opening, at least on weekends. I ordered the breakfast tacos, and we shared a curry chicken pot pie. I also had the maple brown sugar latte, which was pretty good. My friend tried one of the breakfast bowls. I enjoyed the breakfast tacos; they had a good amount of chorizo. However, the curry chicken pot pie was not what I expected. It came with a puff pastry and curry, but the predominant taste was turmeric, likely from curry powder that didn't seem made from scratch but rather a premade mix. Art House Cafe is a very cute spot. One of the biggest downsides is that the spot is very small. For two people, we placed our name on the waitlist and there wasn't really anywhere to wait inside the building which was tough since it was pouring rain outside. The cafe can also get very loud making it hard to hear who you are talking to. Despite the cafe being small and the busyness relatively dying down, the service seemed quite slow once we got our food. The food was decent but the pancakes were a bit dense. Overall, I would try Art House again maybe on a nicer day when the patio is open or it would be appropriate to wait outside while waiting for a table. read more

I came here with a friend around 11 am on a Saturday. We were pretty disappointed with the experience. The good: - the space is cute and decorated with fun artwork. - the cinnamon roll latte was delicious! - friendly waitress - food was fine The bad: - when we arrived we put our name and number in. We watched multiple parties go in before us that got there after us. When we went to ask about it we found out they had somehow deleted our name from the list so we waited much longer than we should have - we ended up getting sat upstairs which caused for poor service. Changing my review to call out how the restaurant closed down without any notice to the staff. I am not a former employee but over the years of coming here I have gotten to know some of them. at the end of their shift on Saturday the owners simply left a note on the time keeping system. Could not even give the news to their staff face to face. No 1 week or 2 week notice. I accept that this is not uncommon in the restaurant world but its still exceedingly scummy. Every business expects their employees to give notice yet so rarely do they ever offer the same courtesy. Beware of doing business with anyone involved in the future, they can not be trusted. The owners are posting on social media talking about how hard it is on them. Don't feed into the pity party. They completely left their staff out dry and we should give no sympathy to them. My condolences to the hardworking staff you deserved better. Don't give these people anymore of your energy, they did not deserve it in the first place. read more

Sunday, 16 February. Have had Art House on saved list forever. Two other attempts were unsuccessful with the long wait times. Have heard people rave about it! Today we decided to finally brave the crowds. We got there before 1:00 and was told it would be 40 minute wait. We were able to be seated after 30 minutes (we never received a text about reservation so I popped inside to check- the server seemed to be looking for our name and then said he could seat us then anyways). It was about 5 minutes until we got our water. Beautiful glasses but the odor of the water was so off putting... there was no way I could drink the water. Server finally came to table and asked for drink orders. Husband got a coffee- He couldn't drink the water either. Husband ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes with bacon. I ordered the Roasted Garlic and Sun Dried Tomato Stuffed Biscuit with Rosemary potatoes. Food arrived, plated to look delicious. Husband commented that his thick cut bacon had no crisp and tasted slightly undercooked. It looked done. The pancakes were nice. The "biscuit" almost had a burrito/hot pocket shape and taste- not a fluffy traditional biscuit. It was crispy and interesting but not resembling a biscuit in taste or form. The contents were fine. The potatoes were so disappointing. I love rosemary anything! They looked appetizing but they were so salty and had the weird odor of the water. Husband tasted them. He agreed that they were extremely salty. No use wasting calories on eating further. Husband was not offered a refill on coffee by our server until we were done. He didn't even check in until that time and his offer to refill and asking if we needed everything was rushed into 3 seconds and he was already headed away as he said it... okayyyyyyy. There was a female server who brought our food and then asked if we needed to go containers. We had to get our check from her- our server never returned. She could perceive we weren't happy and her affect seemed apologetic. Was the place busy? Sure, but not to capacity. I am guessing we just hit them on a bad day on every aspect. Again, have heard people rave about it. It is very cool looking and funky on the inside. When I got this pizza the egg was fully cooked and honestly not it for this pizza. If it was runny it would have added much more sauce and flavor. But it did fill me up like crazy all the meat in it. I could only eat one slice and then I was too full. But honestly was really craving this pizza and disappointed to not get a runny egg. Cinnamon Roll Actually okay that was bomb. Went to art house cafe to n a week day. Even on a Monday it was fairly busy during brunch hours, would definitely recommend calling ahead. They have a fairly large breakfast/brunch menu as well as pizzas. The prosciutto sandwich was good, not amazing but I enjoyed it. We both really like the stuffed biscuit sandwich. The thing I actually enjoyed the most was the house salad which you Can substitute in place of potatoes for 4$. Sounds weird but it was an amazing salad and was a great addition to the meal. Of note their drip coffee was really good! I am not sure what type of coffee they use but it was an exceptional cup of coffee. If you are looking for a good tasty food go somewhere else. We ordered pancakes, Italian Benedict and wild mushrooms pizza. Pancakes were doughy inside, we asked if this is normal and were told that it's not, they brought us another ones and it was exactly the same super doughy. My kids ate some because they were super hungry. We were told that they can't take it off the bill because my kids ate some. Eggs Benedict were lacking flavor and whatever dough it was on tasted pretty gross, husband had to ask for English muffins. Pizza was lacking flavor as well. It's a great place to have great food, mimosas and conversation, as it is not an extremely noisy environment as some breakfast and brunch spots can be. This is a nice and cozy brunch place in Tacoma. We came at a good time at 10am on a Wednesday and we were seated right away. Our waitress was very cheery and friendly, and answered whatever questions we had. To start off, we ordered drinks and I got the White Chocolate Lavender, which is espresso with white chocolate, lavender syrup, and my choice of milk was coconut. Lately, I've been enjoying my coffee with lavender syrup and white chocolate, so my drink was yummy and sweet! Since I was craving something sweet and savory, it was the right choice! The PB&J sauce was rich and creamy because of the peanut butter, and the drizzle of jelly was sweet and fruity. The pancakes were flat, light, buttery, and a little sweet. With bacon on the side, it was the savory flavor that I needed. My friends enjoyed their choices as well. They tried the Special for the day, which was the Mama's Ham & Cream Biscuit, Quinoa Cake Salad (the egg substituted with Avocado), and the Buttermilk Ricotta Medallion Pancakes. On the second floor, they have two one-toilet bathrooms (one for men and the other for women). Next to the bathrooms were more chairs and tables with artwork displayed on the walls. I took the time to admire some of the paintings displayed. Overall, Art House is a good place to eat breakfast/lunch. Although I was sad when some of the things I wanted to try were out the day we went (especially the waffles), it was nice that there were options to do substitutes. Not so much here, but they do have a nice, cozy atmosphere going for them. I suppose you could say the "art" of Art House is what you get on your plate! Service was friendly and prompt. The mimosas were delightfully fancy and they have cucumber water! So simple, but such a nice touch! The stuffed biscuits I got weren't 100% what I was expecting. When I think of a biscuit I think of something....fluffier? They were really good regardless of what a biscuit is and I'd 100% eat them again! Great roasted potatoes as well! My brunch partner was delighted to see microgreens! So true, that's something you don't see in a lot of places and it's a great little touch to add! Arrived slightly late (~9:15a?) on a Saturday morning and had to wait 15-20 minutes for a table. Ended up being seated right next to the front door, which was opened very frequently, chilling us with cold air every time. (I know restaurants want as many tables as they can, but positioning tables right next to a frequently opened door without any barrier from the blast of cold air has become a pet peeve of mine recently!) Also, the fried egg on mine was ever-so-slightly overcooked and did not leave enough runny yolk to enjoy with the bacon-y biscuit. Service was friendly and efficient. First time today! My new favorite spot, the food and drinks were perfect. I ordered the cinnamon latte with oat milk, salmon Benedict and my friend ordered the Benedict that comes with bruschetta. Everything was literally delicious. You can tell they use good fresh ingredients because you don't feel "Sick Full" after and heavy. The POTATOES!!! OMG I love good breakfast potatoes and these were made perfectly. Make sure you start with their fresh cucumber water. I also love a restaurant that cares enough to serve refreshing water that I actually want to drink more of. Great breakfast, Great Atmosphere, Great servers! I love a good breakfast place and being new to the city there are a ton of places to try! Arthouse Cafe had been on my list for sometime and we decided to give it a try one Saturday morning. I checked the website before we left the house and they opened up at 8:00 am and we arrived just a few minutes past 8:00 am and were able to grab a seat but the restaurant did fill up by the time that we left and they had a good amount of folks waiting for a table. I ordered the Americano coffee and it arrived in a large cup and was delicious. I don't drink coffee very often so it was a nice treat. For breakfast, I ordered the Eggs Benedict. Wow! They were so good. The hollandaise sauce with full of citrus flavor and the applewood smoked ham was tasty and of high quality. The meal was accompanied by rosemary potatoes.
