The above quote came to mind when I recently visited "Elk Grove Space 4 Art" at the new location 2350 Maritime Drive, Elk Grove, CA. 95758. Phone 916-209-0283. The interior setup reminded me off that philosophy. Starting at one side of the studio, going around the building, again meeting up at the beginning, starting all over, forming a "Circle of Art" never to end. Dedicated rooms, for the many facets of Art. Drawing, Painting, Ceramics, and many more activities. Starting at 5yrs old, also and a great place for adults interested in expanding their interest in Art and or improving their skills. I found the visit, the personal tour from Jezebel, a most pleasant, and impressive experience. Not only looking at the facility but recognizing the very skillfully layout and thinking behind the curriculum speaks off an ounce again successful Art Center.

Going in, I think we were expecting something a little more free flowing and open creatively, more of an environment where there wasn't really a right or wrong way to create and kids could fully lean into their own ideas and style. What we found was that the class felt a bit more structured than we were personally looking for. That's not necessarily a bad thing at all, and I could definitely see how that style would work really well for kids who prefer more guidance and direction. It just ended up not being the best fit for my daughter's personality and the kind of creative environment we were hoping for. Everyone was nice, and the space itself was welcoming, it just ultimately wasn't quite the art experience we had envisioned for her. Helpful tip: If your child enjoys more structured instruction and guided projects, this may be a really good fit. If they prefer a more open-ended creative style, it's probably worth asking questions about the class format beforehand. Unfortunately it just didn't end up being the right fit for us personally.

Everything is set up for the participants, plenty of space to work, and an all-around FUN time. She is full of energy and life! She explains each step and let's everyone know creativity and fun are the goals for the evening. Her pacing is excellent. She walks around with a head microphone to address the entire group and meet everyone's individual needs. She does all this while smiling and creating the most relaxed environment. Nothing is rushed and her positivity is inspiring. Again, I loved her so much that I purchased one of her original art works that I proudly display in my home today.

What I noticed during art competitions is: staff associated with the art center participates in the competitions, also the patrons. In doing this, it doesn't feel right nor fair that most of the staff and patrons won an award for their art pieces. I wish they would set a day for themselves to show off their talents separate from the competitions. Better yet, have their own competition participated by just the staff and patrons. Hope this review does not discourage the art center, but encourage them to do better, there is always room for improvement.

Arriving 20 minutes prior to our scheduled session, we placed food and drink orders at the bar (my wife and I opted to order two Old Fashioneds). We then proceeded to enter the classroom where we met our instructor (unfortunately I did not obtain her name). After giving us a few tips, we started the project. Our instructor did a great job of pausing after each step to ensure that everyone was on the same page and even walked around the class to offer suggestions (I felt like I was in university again). I'm so thankful that I only had one drink, the bartender working that evening made some potent cocktails (not a complaint). If you can imagine, remaining focused on painting when buzzed is a challenge in itself. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Pinot's Palette and the romantic paint selection was appropriate for a couple's night out. Also, the music selection was on point! We will definitely make a return visit for their candle making class!

Everyone, young and old, and with varying levels of creative skill enjoyed painting along with Matthew. He arrived early to set up and wore a mask for the entire event. He was very conscientious in following COVID guidelines, which we appreciated because there were a few individuals 65+ in attendance. We chose the mountain scene which was great fun to paint. He was very attentive and helpful the entire event - refilling paint and bringing fresh brushes, etc. Highly recommend hiring him for your next event. Matthew was so easy to work with in terms of communication and providing direction prior to our event. Matthew also came early to set up the canvases nicely. Matthew was patient with each of us during our two hour session (and in a heat wave, with gloves and masks on!). The guy also cleaned up super fast, without a trace! Matthew was very engaging, and each of the participants commented about how he was the nicest instructor! Matthew also reached out a few days later to make sure everything went smoothly from our perspective. If you park near the Enterprise lot, the staff there will ask you to move your car (learned that the hard way), so plan to park on the street if possible. Now onto the class--overall, I had a good experience. The staff is super friendly and happy to answer any questions. They give all the instructions at the beginning, then you work independently while they check in with you periodically. Everyone has a different learning style, so this teaching method may work really well for some, while others (like me!) might prefer a more hands-on, step-by-step approach. Either way, I had a good time and I'm so glad I gave it a try!

Space was clean, nicely decorated and could accommodate 40 guests, not sure what the other space rents for so double check with the owner. Just make sure to clean up when you're done.
