Loads of South American wines on the list, and if you like rustic earthy Malbecs, the Piattelli Reserve is excellent and at $43 a high plains hijacking. Loved the beef empanadas, and tried the steak sampler. The filet was the standout of the bunch - order it rare. The other options were very good as well. Service is excellent and the vibe is languid. (Kari's Rating 9/10) Made a reservation for 7pm for my birthday dinner with two friends, we were seated right away and served our first round of drinks. I ordered the Brazilian coconut punch. It was absolutely delightful. The coconut punch was very light, almost like a mature piña colada without the full sweetness. My second drink was a Pisco sour, it was a little too sour for my taste, but I should've known what I walked myself into. That was on me. My friend got the Derby and it's very bourbon heavy, but it had a nice citrus finish. Both drinks were quite refreshing. The first round were two empanadas, one with cheese and spinach, and then one with beef, it came with a very light chimichurri sauce, which I thought was a little bit oily, but I preferred the cheese and spinach empanada over the beef. The main course was a skirt steak, I ordered it medium rare, it came out cooked to perfection. The chimichurri sauce made a second appearance and I learned how to drain it from the oil and was even better with the steak! I initially thought the potatoes probably could've been made with a little bit more butter, but I'm glad they weren't, as the meal was already rich enough. The steak was the perfect portion size as well, I finished the entire thing. We also ordered the roasted brussels sprouts for the table and I'm glad we did as they rounded out the entire meal. The dessert was a flan. Texture was not a traditional flan, of a but a stiffer texture. The nut crunch on top was really well done and it also came with a side of almost a buttery mousse. It was the perfect light dessert. Overall, the server was very attentive and the meal was absolutely delicious, and everything came out in a respectful timeline. Very average. My wife had an odd notion to come here on a Saturday night with the kiddos and my in-laws for a Mother's Day celebration. She would not take multiple, vehement, "Are you sure????????", queries to heart. Oh well, it's her day...... We ordered empanadas for appetizers. They were unremarkably good, if a little pricey. For the main course, we got the paella and the largest steak flight. The rice in the paella was undercooked, and I felt like there should have been more seafood in it given the near $50 price tag (basically three large shrimp, three mussels, and three scallops -- yippee!!). The variety of sausage in the flight was arguably the highlight of the meal and everyone at the table enjoyed both the flavor and novelty. The steak was somewhat underwhelming, though. It was good and perfectly edible, but lacked the wow factor of most city steakhouses. It reminded me of something I would broil at home on an average weeknight. Service was slow. I think it was just our waitress, as all the other staff was courteous and helpful. The hostess in particular bent over backwards to accommodate us. Thank you! There was live music that night, and it was a happening place. This would be a great spot for a hot date or a night out on the town. Not so much for a multi-generational family outing..... Brought some out of town guests from Argentina here on Wednesday night. The entire staff couldn't have been more welcoming. From the hostess to the waiters and manager, they all made our friends feel like they were back home in Argentina. We ordered drinks & appetizers which were top notch!The tango dancing was exciting to watch and they even got a brief lesson from the lovely dance teacher. Such a treat. Was in the mood for an Argentinian steakhouse to celebrate my anniversary. It was refreshing to go somewhere away from downtown. We dined on a Friday evening and was able to sit in their patio area. To start, we shared 3 empanadas - all of which were delicious paired with spicy chimichurri. Highly recommend trying them all. We shared the steak flight and got 2 sides which was a good amount of food for 2 people. Everything was delicious! The meal felt light and flavorful. The steaks were cooked exactly how we wanted! Catching up on Yelp reviews in 2024. I used to live in Lincoln Square, but I never went to Artango. I was here back in January on a Friday night and we had a men's dinner with my buddies of 8 guys. Artango was dimly lit and crowded on a Friday night. Music is good, but kind of loud. Piano guy started around 8pm. For drinks, I ordered the Pisco Sour and the Mezcal Margherita. The Pisco Sour was very good, but I hated the Mezcal Margherita. The Mezcal Margherita was not bad whatsoever as it was well crafted, but it was my personal taste. I have given Mezcal Tequila so many chances, but I just highly dislike it. Drinks took a while to come out, but our apps came out fast. For apps, we ordered the Empanadas, Cerviche Trio, and provoleta (grilled cheese) to split. The Empanadas were meh, but the Cerviche and provoleta were great. For our entree, we split the Fin Del Mundo, which had a NY strip, lamb, ribeye, grilled sausages, mollejas, and sauces. NY Strip and the ribeye were good. Pretty lean overall. My favorites were probably the sausages as each one was distinct and all were very flavorful. I did not care for the lamb, but lamb is not my favorite. But the others really liked it. All of the sauces were pretty good, which included the chimichurri, spicy chimichurri, and steak sauce. Overall, I thought the food was decent, but not spectacular. It's price point is relatively cheaper so you pay for what you get. I definitely enjoyed Tango Sur much better, but it's not really an apples to apples comparison, maybe Fogo De Ciao is a better comparison. Service was adequate to poor. Drinks did take a while, but other than that it was ok. Price point is pretty cheap and this is a good bang for your buck place. Artango was not my cup of tea, but worth a try if you like Latin American steakhouses. read more

Cocktails are really good here. It was the bartender's second day working at the restaurant and he did a great job! The mango basil margarita was refreshing and good. The derby was good with a slight tartness to it. My friend said the pisco sour was good also. Trio de ceviches was delicious and they give you fried plantain chips to eat it with. The ceviche was fresh and yummy. Asado de Domingo (3-4 people) is a great deal and the variety of meat you get is great. It also comes with salad and mashed potatoes. The short rib is HUGE and so tender and juicy. So good. It comes with sauces on the side for each type of meat. Highly recommend. Oblivion dessert wasn't too bad. The portions are small, but each bite has a lot of flavor. I would suggest trying another dessert dish. read more

We passed this place so many times but never dined there. Then on reviewing the restaurants for Chicago Restaurant Week, we really liked their offerings, so we made a reservation. It was frankly marvelous. So beautiful inside and Esteban, server and general manager was professional, friendly and made excellent suggestions. We had the empanadas- good cheese but the beef was even better(shredded) and baked not fried. For the entree our selection was the steak(with roasted potatoes and asparagus) and a lamb shank with the best sauce(Malbec--I wanted to drink it) and polenta. Dessert was good(flan and chocolate cake) but the dessert "amuse bouche" was an exciting addition. Can you tell we will be back? read more

As for the food... the empanadas were kinda dry and lack luster. I almost don't want to bring up the dessert because it was so bad. We were so full! The chimichurri that accompanied them was so good! One steak had a tomato like bruschetta on top. This restaurant it's overpriced for the amount of food and quality. Ordered a ceviche it came what I thought 6 shrimps not bad until I started eating the shrimp it was sliced in half WOW. What a cheap restaurant. $15 for three sliced shrimp. Also, $72 for the sharing steak flights which consisted of three small, tasteless and bland steaks. Will never go back or recommend this place. Stopped in for Chicago restaurant week. Reservations were at 4 and we were seated immediately. I love the ambiance of the restaurant. There's low light in the space but there is a lamp at each table that you can adjust the brightness on to view the menu. We reviewed the menu online before opting to go, or so we thought. When we were seated, we were disappointed to see that the menu was different in the restaurant than what was shown on the Chicago restaurant week website. Our server stated that the entire table must decide which menu we would like to order from collectively which was difficult because the menu we anticipated was not presented. They removed the asparagus from the filet option, there were mostly seafood options for the appetizers (my friends are allergic), & the lamb was unavailable. The entrees for restaurant week aren't available on their regular menu. For my appetizer I chose the empanadas. I received two, one beef & one goat cheese with a side of chimichurri. The beef was extremely yummy. It melted in my mouth and the flavor was incredible! The goat cheese empanada was a bit overpowering I could only eat half of it. For my main, I inquired about having the filet, but with the sides for the lamb because I really wanted the polenta and brussel sprouts. Our server checked with the kitchen and advised us that it was possible! I was extremely thankful they made the accommodation. The main course was absolute perfection!! I wish I had more than six Brussels and another scoop of polenta but outside of that I have no complaints! Everything was seasoned and cooked perfectly. For desert I opted for the chocolate cake. This cake was probably the worst cake I've ever had. It was bitter, dry and unappealing to my palate. I couldn't eat it. All in all it was a great experience. I wonder how many people have ordered sweet breads expected to get a roll with sugar? Oh, silliness. Empanadas were pillowy soft/juicy and cocktails were top notch. I don't usually order steak "medium rare" because I find most places end up serving it rare/extra-rare...but this was perfect. Pink in the middle. We had an early reservation and when we arrived there was only one other table occupied, so we got a little nervous. It was also freezing when we got there, not sure if it was because they had just opened or there was something wrong, but I could see my breath. Eventually things filled in and had a nice time. We started with drinks which they had an interesting selection of drinks that went with the Argentinian theme and I really enjoyed the Red Royale. We also had the grilled provolone cheese and the empanadas that were amazing! We did the variety and there wasn't a bad one in the bunch. For our entree we did the sharing menu steak flight, I mean we were at an Argentinian steak house, which came with two sides. The steaks were seasoned very well and came with two sauces a chimichurri and another with garlic, tomatoes and something else which was fantastic. The cook on the steaks was not perfect but the flavor was excellent. Our server was helpful and attentive, but there was someone who was helping him at a point and I asked her what the one sauce was and she didn't answer, but there might have a language issue there. The center part of the dessert was supposed to be a semifreddo was basically a puck. There's one server that is just generally bad at timing with long waits unattended. They have a fun performance art scene on weekends with musicians and dancers on stage, albeit usually playing too loud. If you're sensitive to noise, I recommend bringing some ear plugs with sounds reaching constant 100 dB. read more

My husband and I went here for Thanksgiving day to enjoy the prix fixe menu & live music. Overall, it was a great experience! The server took a good 10-15 minutes to greet us and take any orders but it was a busy holiday so we tried to be patient. The mango basil margarita was one of the best margaritas I've ever had. For the appetizer my husband got the empanadas which were delicious and I got the ceviche which was so flavorful and bright. For entrees we both got steaks which came with asparagus and potatoes. The whole dish lacked seasoning but once we asked for salt and sprinkled it over our plates, everything was very tasty. Dessert wasn't a win for me. I got the chocolate cake which was more of a fudgey brownie. No complaints there but the dish included mango and egg nog ice creams and fresh kiwi and the every item was covered in some holiday spices - I'm assuming nutmeg and maybe pumpkin spice as well. DO NOT DINE HERE IF YOU HAVE FOOD ALLERGIES. We dined at Artango on Valentine's Day, February 14th, 2025, for the 3-course menu. I have a severe peanut and tree nut allergy, and this was the first thing I mentioned to our waiter before ordering any food. For the first course, I ordered the empanadas, which I was excited to try. However, after just one bite, I immediately began to feel a severe allergic reaction. I quickly flagged down the waiter, who assured me that there were no nuts in the dish. He went to check with the kitchen, and it turns out there were actually pecans in the empanadas. The waiter was deeply sorry and explained that he had worked there for six years and that there had never been nuts in the empanadas before. This, of course, pointed to a serious communication issue between the kitchen and wait staff. Peanut and tree nut allergies are very common and should always be taken seriously. This mix-up ruined what should have been a special evening for us. While I do appreciate that they comped my meal, they still made my partner pay for their meal and charged us for all of our drinks (4), which felt incredibly inconsiderate given the circumstances. The situation was incredibly scary for me and allergies are something Artango should take seriously to ensure the safety of all customers, especially those with life-threatening allergies. I do not reccomend dining here. Also, a manager or supervisor on staff never came over to check on me. Clearly showing the restaurant lack of empathy and responsibility for the situation. read more

Located in Lincoln Square, this spacious restaurant has a beautiful mural, setting the tone for the South American Argentinan atmosphere. On Saturdays, there are Flamenco dancers at 8pm. It starts out slow with just music for about an hour. Later in the evening there is dancing near the small stage. There was a three course $59 special. I was able to obtain a reservation at short notice. If you reserve online, a credit card is needed. There's a $10 cancellation fee. As we entered, the host mentioned that we could only stay for 1.5 hours for dinner, and I found that the limitation was irritating. The waiter did not appear to be happy that we ordered the $59 special. He explained that either the table must order the special or the regular menu and not both. I found it odd. We ordered appetizers with tuna and empanadas. Both were tasty. The empanadas were cheese filled with bits of chicken. Next, we had the duck soup and steak and potatoes. The soup had bits of duck and potato gnocchi and was tasty. The steak was generously sized with a few potatoes. Luckily the staff did not ask us to leave because we came specifically for the show. I also was able to indulge in the Pollo a la parrilla and the flavors were delightful. It also comes with chimichurri sauce- you can never go wrong with that. Live Music didn't start until 8pm so we missed out on that with our early dinner reservation but still enjoyed our time. Had the steak flight and it was great although the strip had a unique flavor that I didn't care for. I've never had a grass fed strip so I don't know if that was the contributing factor or what. The ribeye and filet were delicious. Bread was very good, moscato was good & the manager was our server so he gave us a free glass of wine which was so nice. The desserts sounded so good but we were too full on steak to partake. Next time will do a later reservation to enjoy the music and go with just a filet or ribeye & save room for dessert. read more

A group of six friends came for restaurant week. They required a $400 hold on a credit card for the reservation. I was fine with this until I arrived, half the party wasn't there yet and they would not seat us until we all arrived, which I found unreasonable with the $400 reservation. We were seated and were told that as a group, we needed to pick from one menu, because of "timing" in the kitchen. We ordered two bottles of wine and two cocktails while we made our decision. We chose to order from the regular menu. The wine came, we ordered our dinners. We each ordered an entree and three sides were ordered for the table. About ten minutes later, the two cocktails arrived. We then waited a full hour for our food. During this time there was no acknowledgment from the waitstaff that it was taking a long time, nor was there any acknowledgement when the food came that it had taken so long to arrive. When our food finally came, they completely forgot one of the entrees. At this time we ordered another bottle of wine. We all ate our dinners. (They tasted fine.) After we were done eating, we had to remind the waiter about the bottle of wine. He brought it over then and we told him never mind, we were leaving. As I was leaving, I noticed there were flecks of something on my hand. A friend noticed on his hand, too, and we realized the vinyl bench we were sitting on was flaking off. The appetizers came out SOO quickly. The waiters were very nice and helpful. Our water was always very quickly replaced. I was pretty surprised with the speed of the service since it was a Friday night and the restaurant was really busy. It had a really nice environment. In Chicago, a lot of restaurants cram as many tables as possible into a tiny space so you can't even hear the person across the table. I really appreciated that they spread the tables out and it didn't feel squished. But the ceilings and everything were really cool. They had live music. It started out with some music that sounded like Frank Sinatra and as the night went on, it sounded like potentially Ricky Martin (sorry, not a music buff). If I had to guess, I would say the live music started around 8 pm. The pasta de mariscos was amazing. If you like seafood, it's for you. It had scallops, mussels, shrimp, calamari, and little squids. My friend is a big steak guy and loved the bife de chorizo. The pink-ish scoop in the picture with the chocolate cake was an ice cream that tasted both cinnamon-y and fruity. I couldn't tell you what it was, but it was tasty. The chocolate cake also had the melted chocolate in the middle sort of like a lava cake. It was really good, but I preferred the flan. read more

Entertainment on stage is always fantastic. Get out of your comfort zone and experiment from the menu, you can't go wrong! Even if there's something that doesn't look like you've had it before, something not very American, go for it! It's a big restaurant with a ton of tables, and also the outdoor seating area. Wine is all from Argentina. Just know that it can be very expensive, very quickly. Keep that in mind when ordering. read more
