If you're looking for a lovely spot right by the beach with great coffee and massive portions, this is it. The food is definitely big enough to share. The service, however, left a lot to be desired. The servers weren't very nice or welcoming. To be fair, we went during the chaotic Mother's Day weekend, so they were incredibly busy, but it still put a bit of a damper on the experience. That being said, the place has a lot of heart. While eating, I overheard a woman talking about how the restaurant belongs to her dad and sharing the history behind it, which was a very touching and sweet story to hear. The chilaquiles are delicious! The chips are the perfect texture piled onto crispy hash browns and then topped with eggs your way and red onions, sour cream and scallions. The milk shake was delicious too! Old school like what you could get at a soda fountain in a drug store. Real ice cream blended into milk and topped with whipped cream. 8/26/2025 - My first time visiting Del Mar and I stopped in Harry's for a little coffee and bite to eat. I sat inside for a little break from the sun. What a fantastic place and awesome service. I loved the oldies decor and classic diner atmosphere. As a treat, I ordered the affogato and my server gave me an extra scoop of ice cream on the house. So sweet! It was a late birthday gift to come to the beach with my bestie! We like to celebrate all month long! Haha. Sat at the bar area. The windows all around allow you to have a great view outside. After a few bites of the cinnamon roll, I headed back out for a walk and to check out a few shops nearby. So glad I tried the (huge) cinnamon roll from a local bakery. It was flaky and cinnamony- is that a word?! lol I definitely needed to walk off some of the sugar calories I'd just enjoyed. 1/13/2026 - I'm baaaack! I could not stay away from CA for a whole year. Haha. Yes, I visit my bestie when I can and wanted to come back. Got the French Toast this time and WOW! So good! It tasted as good as it looked! I also got myself another affogato. For lunch, I had the The Ruben (5/5 $18.99), a closed corned beef sandwich on grilled rye bread with Swiss cheese, 1000 Island dressing, and sauerkraut. This is a classic New York City deli sandwich, and, as I told the manager, the best one I've had since moving to the West Coast 25 years ago! A nice house-made coleslaw (4/5) came with the sandwich, and I had a choice of French fries, onion rings or green salad to accompany my sandwich. I chose onion rings (4/5), which were very good. First time in Del Mar village, and was so happy to stumble upon Harry's! Super cute little coffee shop + breakfast restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating options. I ordered a 2x2 (two eggs and two pancakes), as well as a dirty chai (a chai latte with a shot of espresso). The pancakes were so fluffy and delicious! Eggs were scrambled per my request and the dirty chai latte was served piping hot. Such good food! Love Harry's vintage cafe vibes with a classic breakfast. I've been to the La Jolla location so was excited to try this location. We were able to find parking close by. As soon as we walked up the hostess and waiter greeted us upon entering and were seated right away in the best booth. We ordered our favorites which were the cafe mocha, hot cocoa, and something new horchata latte. All were made to perfection. Our favorite dish by far is the corn beef hash ordered by someone in our party and I was taking bites thinking we should have ordered another one. I ordered my Benny which is a waffle and eggs Benedict, the patty melt was moist and flavorful. The only reason for the 4 star is the poached eggs were not runny. Why have we not been here sooner?! This will now be one of my go to brunch locations! And I'm a bunch snob by the way. One of the reasons I haven't been here is because one my favorite brunch spots is Stratford Court, which is very close to this restaurant. I've been to Harry's coffee shop in La Jolla but it's been over 20 years ago. Anyway, my father-in-law was having a birthday and I thought, oh we should go try out Harry's coffee shop in Del Mar. We walked in on a beautiful sunny Monday morning and it wasn't crowded. We felt like royalty. We got to take our time and figure out what table we wanted. There was fresh flowers on the tables. The staff was so kind and caring. My father-in-law got a complimentary birthday cinnamon roll even before we got our meal. I ordered the eggs Benedict because I wanted to try the hash-browns. They were perfectly hot and crispy. At the end of our brunch the owner was so sweet and gave my father-in-law a Harry's Coffee Shop ball cap. He was beaming. We went for a walk along the railroad at Del Mar planning to get ice cream at An's Hatmakers, but it wasn't open at 11 so we decided to go to brunch instead. We tried walking to the Stratford Cafe but couldn't find a table and didn't want to order, pay, and be stranded, so we walked up to this place and thought we would give it a try. I came by this spot for a quick breakfast while working and it is definitely a busy little spot. I have been a handful of times and I notice that it takes a little bit for someone to come over and get you a table so I always feel a little odd to be standing there with no one coming up to greet you. I decided to go for the BW Benny and honestly it was just alright I didn't fully get the hype of it and I love a benny. I also got a side of hashbrowns which honestly is the reason I go there because they are some of the best hashbrowns I have had. There is a small inside area to sit at and outside seating in front of the restaurant. I have been to both locations and I will say I enjoy the La Jolla location more but I tend to be in Del Mar more and feel like this is a good brunch spot during the week since not many spots around here have breakfast or brunch during the week. read more

This a wonderful spot for breakfast and lunch! We opted for lunch and I had an awesome Iced Latte and we shared a Reuben sandwich and a Turkey Bacon Avocado sandwich . Both tasted wonderful. The turkey in the sandwich looked like it was taken and put on the grill top for a little sear to it and that for some reason really made it stand out more so than other turkey sandwiches I've had. The Reuben was spectacular! Both came with Cole slaw and seasoned fries. I will say that the fries had a corn tortilla taste to them that wasn't expected that I did not care for. We stopped in for a snack before checking into our hotel. My toddler can be a handful at times but they were very nice. Service is slow and a bit inattentive but the food was good. Actually it might have just been our waiter because the other waitresses were bustling around us and we saw them more frequently. We didn't eat much but the portions are massive. I was impressed with the jam they served with the croissant as it was very tasty. My son liked his milkshake ok but I think it would go a long way for a kids meal item to be in a kid friendly container to eat from. Just a suggestion. The fruit bowl was huge too but a smaller portion with less of the melon filler fruit would probably be tastier. Restrooms were out back and dingy but they had a changing table which was nice to see. Harry's new location in Del Mar has a cute but modern diner aesthetic. We were able to get a reservation for a Saturday morning for a group of 8 which I very much appreciated. The cappuccino was smooth and bold. There were gluten free bread options for the French toast and sandwiches. The food was delicious and our server Gerry was friendly and attentive. Revisited in November 2025. Food has measurably improved. There is a roving busboy which helps to clean the place up. Still needs 1 extra server/busboy to help. Diner near us asked for water, and got tired of waiting after 10+ minutes, got up and left. It took 3 requests for staff to stop by to pay the bill, which isn't great. This was at about 11:00 AM on a Wednesday, so not "peak traffic hours". 1 extra person I'm sure won't "break the bank", given that the prices have really jumped here. We're locals (e.g. live in a coastal community nearby), yet haven't been here since it was known as Americana. Our long awaited return didn't disappoint. Plenty of seating options @ 11:30 on a Sunday including outside, inside booth, and counter. For chill lunch vibes, we dig the counter option. We decided upon an AP and a Dr Pepper (dry Jan/Feb, plus day drinking never ends well )to wash down a classic chicken salad sando + side salad that we split. We'd thought we put in for toasted sourdough. Sando was delivered non-toasted. Totally fine and didn't make anything of it. Both the bartender/barista, our server and manager (owner?) couldn't have been more responsive, accommodating and delightful about the nontoasted bread. We were appreciative of their making it right. And they went a giant step further and removed the sammy from our check. Tool cool and honestly a meaningful gesture in what is such a tough business. Two star. The food was standard café fare--fine, nothing memorable. The service, however, was unbelievably bad. A coffee was brought out and left to go cold. Other people at the table asked for coffee and got it. I asked for coffee and it never came. No one checked on me, no one brought a check. I eventually went up to the counter to pay and stood there for several minutes while they fumbled around for change. All in all, one of the more pathetic restaurant experiences I've had in the last couple of years. I ate here once ten years and had the green eggs and ham. It was so good i decided to go back after ten years on my latest visit to Del Mar. And im so glad i did. I had the supreme omlette and it was incredible. They must have used three or four eggs. It was made on a griddle instead of a pan as it was so neaty folded over with several layers as only can be done on a gridle. The hash browns were nice and crunchy. And the coffee was wonderful. I wanted to go back for dinner but sadly they sre only open for dinner in the summer. I will definitely return on my next visit. read more
