Grew up going to Arthur Treacher's at Randall park mall and Richmond mall. It's all the nostalgia for me! My mom is really picky about eating out and this place + Long John Silvers is her favorite fast food spot (she doesn't eat chicken or beef). It has been probably 20 years since any of our family has eaten here! For my mom's birthday, I took both my parents to this location and we each got the original combo meal. The fish pieces were so good but not quite as flaky as I remembered and the chips were not quite as crunchy as I remembered either. Still, it was a satisfying experience and fun blast from the past. Arthur Treacher's has always been one of my favorite fast foods. Today was a horrible disappointment. We were served fish and chips that were sitting in the warmer for ten minutes while we waited for our order. Hush puppies came up, and it took them five minutes after that to pack our order up. The fish was over done and chewy. (Not to mention that clearly they have changed their fish). We also confirmed with the cashier that he took our order correctly. He said that he had, but of course, it was wrong. The guy in the back was wearing gloves while cooking, but kept touching his personal phone while wearing them. It's been a few years since I've been here. We came here for Friday fish fry during covid. We had a taste so decided to make the 20 min drive. Parking lot is still a pot hole heaven. Beware your car! They have painted and redesigned the inside and outside. They have a few tables inside but it looks like it transformed into more of a takeout place. We ate in cuz by the time we got home it be cold we wanted hot food. Ordered 4 piece fish with fries, hushpuppies and a drink. We split it. 2 pieces each. It was hot and as I remembered. Can't beat that crunch on the fish. Fries were not quite as crispy. But ok. I like the chips/fries they are thick and good with malt vinegar. Lots of people taking out after work. Pros: despite the line of four ahead of me, my order was taken within 8 min and my food was out in 3 min after that. Very fast. Parking lot next to building Cons: mediocre food. Flavorless lemon pie- literally lightly sort of just smelled like lemon but otherwise was super plain. The fish pieces were lukewarm and lacking in flavor and somewhat dry. Called the restaurant and was told sorry but the manager was not there and would have him call tomorrow since I was not about to drive all the way back, this happened July 15th and have not heard from anyone yet. It's really bad business to be told you would be contacted by someone especially since you are in the wrong about your services but this is just another company that only wants your money and doesn't give a dam about the service or the food. It has been seven years since I visited this restaurant known as Arthur Treacher's. While I don't think it is the same as the original Arthur Treacher's, I believe it is close. And it is close enough that it makes me want to visit again. On this visit, I requested two fish, two chicken, fries, hush puppies, and a Mountain Dew. I dined in. It took less than 10 minutes to fry up my meal. The fish was hot and delicious. They claim it is wild caught haddock from Alaska. It definitely has a good flavor and the breading is crunchy and yummy. The chicken was excellent. I love dipping the chicken in cocktail sauce. I crave that flavor and texture. The hush puppies were smaller than I remembered, but I felt like they were just the right size. And they had the same flavor that reminded me of my childhood. I visited this location under protest-- and was very pleasantly surprised. Normally my wife and I patronize the Cuyahoga Falls location, because (1) that's near where she works and (2) I used to work in Garfield Heights. My memories of the suburb led me to believe that Troma Films could open a Midwest branch here. And when I read the reviews of this location, they supported my assumptions. But when we found ourselves less than ten minutes away at lunchtime, she insisted. So we went. It was nothing like the one-star reviews I'd read. Was it as good as the Cuyahoga Falls location? No. But it was very decent (note the four stars), and I would come back here again. Here's what I found. 1. Portion sizes appear to be smaller. We were at Cuyahoga Falls less than a month ago (January 23; this is February 13). When we got our order, we both noted that Cuyahoga's portions were smaller than they were a year ago. Garfield had smaller portions than Cuyahoga-- smaller fish & chicken, and fewer chips. 2. They pre-made entrees. There was a big pile of chicken, fish and chips under heat lamps. It was 11:55; maybe they wanted to get ahead of the rush (one did happen). But fried fish and chicken lose their appeal really fast. Of the eight pieces of main course (total of four fish, four chicken), one of my chicken and one of her fish were lukewarm. The others ranged from hot to blistering. 3. One fish and one chicken were overcooked. Too dark; one had a burned taste. 75% is acceptable, if not ideal. 4. Garfield's chips were smaller in size and much browner than Cuyahoga's. If you like chips really crispy, this could be a good thing, If you like them delicately fried with the inside texture like a baked potato (me), not so much. They were not terribly hot. 5. Garfield's hush puppies were terrific-- crisper and much tastier than Cuyahoga's (for our last two visits). The oil was glistening, the outsides were fried hard. I was really happy about them. 6. The sauces are packaged single-serving tubs from Marzetti. (Cuyahoga's are not.) Your mileage may vary-- depending on how much you like Marzetti. I preferred the sauce that used to be dispensed (though, for all I know, that was Marzetti). We got three tubes per four piece order. They let you pick flavors and offer ketchup packets for your chips. (There's salt, pepper and malt vinegar at the tables; I dunno what you can get for take-out.) My guess is this is a response to someone reviewers called the "condiments nazi", who was constantly yelling at the staff for giving out too many packets. Now it's cut-and-dried. 7. If you want to eat in, you might have problems here. They have five table-- three four-seaters and two twos. Cuyahoga, because it used to be a Wendy's, has a lot more seating. By the way, don't get takeout fried food unless you live nearby. The longer you wait to eat it, the more disappointed you'll be. (This is true of every fast food place, I'm not ragging on Arthur Creatures.) 8. My wife's drink was really small. I upgraded to large, which cost me an extra 89 cents. A lot of my cup was ice. 9. The staff bent over backwards to be cheerful and friendly. My wife has trouble ordering at Cane's-- she stares at menus like a deer in the headlight. The counter guy didn't badger her to hurry up-- he said "Tell me what you're looking for and I'll figure out the cheapest way to give it to you." When she stared nearsightedly at the menu (there was a light shining on it, which caused glare), he said "If you're having trouble seeing it, just ask me." As we ate, we listened to him chatter with customers-- many of whom seemed to be regulars, based on what he said. He was excited about the new locations opening up-- one was coming to Lakewood. He told one customer how they sourced their fish. He told me how they fried it. The guy packing the orders seemed really shy. He was not rude, but you could tell chatting wasn't his thing. 10. Given all the reviews mentioning condiments, I was wondering if I could get a refill on my drink. They were happy to give it to me. (Extra sauce will cost 50 cents a tub-- it's right up there on the menu. I figure that's the "condiment nazi" at work.) 11. Just to see what would happen, I said "Wow, this was a lot better than I expected from your reviews" after he handed me my refill. He didn't flinch (much). He just said this site had had a number of different owners, some of whom were "not so great". This could certainly explain why the reviews vary so widely. (Or maybe I just got their best staff.) Bottom line: I'm probably never gonna come back here again, but only because they opened a site in Cleveland Heights (where I have many clients) and are opening one in Lakewood (where I live). If this were the closest to me, I'd return. Aside from the issues mentioned, they did well. If I'd come at off-peak (when they weren't pre-making), I might have given five stars. read more

Sure, the fish is fine and I suppose the chicken and shrimp is good too, but for my money, a plate of Krunch pups and a pile of chips ( plenty of malt Vinegar, please!) brings me back to younger days and old friends. The food is always awesome and just as delicious as you remembered from back in the day. The service is fast and friendly. The fries and fish were so greasy we couldn't even finish it. The tartar sauce is no longer homemade but made by Marzetti. Did not realize that this was a 100% takeout spot, but no worries...a seat in my car will do just fine! A few brief moments after placing my order and a selection of tartar sauce, malt vinegar and ketchup packets tossed in my bag for good measure...and I was on my way! I've passed here plenty of times, it had a sign that read "Gyros" all this time I thought it was just another "Gyro spot" & that Arthur Treacher was closed. Was driving by I saw the sign was gone & people going in & out shoop I decided to turn around & check it out, to my surprise it was open. My wife & I both had the 3 piece fish meal, since we were there with our 1yo grandson I opted to have 1 fish replaced with a chicken tender. To my surprise after talking to the owner he was the owner of the one on Clark Ave., I explained how my Grandma would take my younger brother & myself there every Friday, coming here really brought back so much great memories of my Grandma, now this tradition I will have with my grandson. Now, the fish is the exact way I remembered light & crispy, the fries also the same O.M.G the hush puppies tasted the same, the gentleman who I assume was the manager came out asked how was our meal & refilled our pop even gave my grandson a lemonade & a cardboard boat which he really loved. Very clean place, tables were cleaned as soon as the customer left, men's restroom was clean, the service we recieved was top notch. The owner is a really down to earth person we wish him all the best, I am definitely coming back more often & I'm surely going to tell my friends. This restaurant reopened just yesterday, and I was so excited to stop in for a favorite meal of a fish sandwich pack. Well, they don't have their full menu available yet, so I ordered a 3-piece fish meal instead that included chips and a couple hushpuppies. I also ordered an extra three hushpuppies as well. I have been a fan of Arthur Treachers since 1975, so I know their food pretty well. Let's just say that this new owner and his crew need to learn how to cook this food. Maybe they've never had Arthur Treachers? I don't know. All I do know is what I ordered today was the greasiest mess I have ever eaten. The hushpuppies were the size of tennis balls, with an extremely greasy outer crunchy part, and a nearly raw and greasy inner part. They were also flavorless, lacking the familiar green onion taste. The fish filets were thinner than I remember, and had so much breading glopped onto them in such a weird way that one of the pieces couldn't even be identified as a fish filet. They, too, were extremely greasy, so greasy that I am sick to my stomach as I type this. I could say that I shouldn't have eaten that third piece...but honestly, I shouldn't have eaten the whole first piece after noticing how extremely greasy it was. The restaurant has been slightly remodeled, with a new floor, fresh paint, and all the old booths removed. That was all needed, to be sure. But the windows haven't been washed and are filthy, the floor tiles havevn't been mopped and were still covered in construction dust--gritty, in fact--and a glimpse of the kitchen as I moved closer to the cash register showed an absolutely filthy floor back there. There were fish filets, fries, smashed into the floor and pushed up against the wall and grease absolutely everywhere. Not a good impression for customers who can easily see it while in line. I know that the owner must be new at this, so I'll give the restaurant a second chance in a month or so after all the hoopla over their reopening has settled down a bit. But advice to the owner: You have some serious fans of this food willing to wait an hour or more in line to buy your product. They're not only excited to taste the food again, but also happy to relive a memory from years ago when times were happier and not as messed up as they are today. Please don't screw this up. It honestly wouldn't surprise me to learn you've already lost a lot of customers today with the mess you were serving. read more

Basic, tasty. Seems like a favorite of the locals. Inside is basic, divey, fast food place. Prices are decent.

We went for lunch yesterday at an off-hour. The restaurant was well-lit and IMMACULATE! The food was hot and fresh. The employees were very welcoming and friendly. This review need to be at multiple levels. 1) Staff - this was a great staff. it was 4 ladies and they were all extremely friendly and almost mothering. it was very comforting to have that kind of attention at a fast food joint. 2) Condition - the place is kind of old, but they have done a great job maintaining the inside. things were well positioned and easy to get to . 3) Food - So the fish was not as goo as LJS, but that is okay. It was still good. The chicken is better then LGS, which is impressive because i like LGS chicken. The clams wore nice and crispy. Well done.
