I went there for lunch yesterday at 12:30 no one was in there eating. There was no bar tender and very little liquor on the shelf. I had lunch I can't complain but I had to call the restaurant just to get the check. The place smells so bad I can't see going back and when I left at 1:15pm no one was still in there. By far the best steakhouse ever. The steak and rib combo with the famous potatoes is out of this world. If all you locals, truckers, visitors are looking for a great place to eat at look no further right here is where you want to eat at. So, let's face it...... Arthur's heyday as an Inexpensive,comfortible,and friendly "steak house" is over. In it's sted is a Middlesex institution that has faded into a venue where you pretty much throw caution to the wind and hope you have a half decent dining experience. Last night was no different.... 7 for dinner with no outrageous requests or orders and quite frankly there was good with the bad. The good: Onion soups were on point with the familiar savory broth overflowing with melted cheese and the favorite crusty bits running down the sides of the crock. My Arthur's burger was perfectly medium rare if a bit under seasoned with the wonderfully crispy battered and fried onions on toasted white bread?. It was a substantial burger and I enjoyed it. The pickles and slaw was as good as it's always been with their crisp and tangy textures. The rack of BBQ ribs was huge if a bit overdressed. The bad: Service is slow, haphazard and unprofessional..... Understandable since our server was probably very new at probably his first job but in his favor he did try his best. Fries were under cooked and we had to send them back to gain some more color and crunch in the fryer. Steaks were ordered medium rare and showed up medium well. Texture was uneven with some crusty bits burnt. One order of wedge salad forgotten....... but ultimately not missed. Wells sodas were overly sweet and under carbonated as if the guns needed servicing. Small thing do add up and I was a bit sad to witness an old favorite's ultimate decline. I wish I had something nice to say but that would be lying. I was debating whether to give 1 or 2 stars but 2 felt too generous. The waitress was perfectly fine but kinda weird. Like she felt awkward. I asked if she had anything to recommend. She said she didn't try any of the steaks. At a supposed steakhouse. She said the chicken parm was fine which is not what you want to hear The decor was super outdated and covered in beer ads. Calling this a steakhouse is a lie. This is nothing compared to the Arthur's from Hoboken that used to be the same family. This is a dive bar that serves steak. A salad and two pickles were brought out - neither of our entrees remotely fit with a pickle. The salad was like a coleslaw type. It was faintly sweet it was shredded iceberg lettuce with maybe 3 carrot slices and onion. It was also served in what could easily be my dogs stainless steel food bowl. Really reminiscent of a dog food bowl. The onion soup was good but expensive. Barely any bread on the bottom. Covered in a thick greasy layer of cheese - not the good kind. Most of the cheese was burnt too. I had the Parmesan crusted chicken with garlic mashed potatoes. So bland and flavorless. The mashed potatoes tasted super old and lumpy. Couldn't take more than few bites. So lumpy and just stale. The Parmesan crusted chicken was a fried chicken breast. Couldn't taste any Parmesan. The chicken was stringy and tough. They served it with cream of tartar sauce which is more of a fish accompaniment. I covered the chicken in salt and pepper and it couldn't save it. Husband had prime rib - it looked blah and he wasn't thrilled about it. Said it was weirdly cooked. Incredibly overpriced for everything. $70+tip. $8 for the soup and $3.95 for a Pepsi. That's not inflation that's flat out price gouging. The chicken was $24. The prime rib was $30. Bathroom is weird. Doors are very short. I'm 5'4" and the top of my head was above the door. Very small stalls. Bathroom smelled incredibly strongly of chlorine bleach or straight up bleach. To the point where my nose stung. 2/3 soap dispensers didn't work. Wow... sadly I brought a friend here to experience Arthur's and the service was subpar --I'm being nice. The steaks, thankfully, didn't lose their authentic flavor and freshness. However, the garlic mash was lukewarm and not fresh. We were a party of 4. We were very simple in that we ordered the same meals with different sides. Yet and still, the staff nor the manager was not attentive to our table. We waited extended periods of time in order to get our drinks replenished. There was absolutely no one in the restaurant so you would assume that we'd be nicely catered to. Very sad. Once the manager surfaced in the dining area, we asked if we can share feedback. When bringing up these experiences to the manager, he simply shrugged and immediately responded that he could take off aside or so from the bill. We emphasized to him that the bill was not the point of the feedback. He then returned with a new bill minus the $6 total in sides. Again, sadly this recent representation of Arthur's left a sour taste in my mouth. When I pay over $200 on a bill for dinner with my family, it better be worth my hard earned money. Sadly, our visit turned out to be a major letdown. We used to frequent the Hoboken location years ago and the steaks were great. There were always lines out the door waiting to get a table. So, despite seeing the prices on the menu, we decided to see if we could relive the memories. Our waiter was obviously a newbie. He actually asked if I wanted ice in my iced tea. The signature pickles never arrived despite the waiter making a big to-do about bringing them. The wedge salads were great so we were looking forward to main event. As was my tradition, I ordered the "Our steak" which was $42 for the 24 oz cut. When it arrived, it didn't have the juicy exterior that characterized the Hoboken steaks. Conspicuous by their absence were the lack of any grill marks. Lastly, while properly cooked, the meat was tough and grisly. Texas Roadhouse has it all over them. Frankly, my Costco ribeyes put them to shame. When asked about the meal by a staff member, I gave an honest assessment. Quarantine did not do this place good. The only reason for the 1 star is because of our waiter. I have been coming to Arthur's for years and have always enjoyed them. Unfortunately, I am sad to write that outdoor dining has not helped this place at all. First of all, I ordered a tall bud lite... SKUNKED AS HECK! Then I ordered the spinach and artichoke dip, no spinach at all, second of all if you like lots of oil in your food, then get the dip... just kidding. I felt like I died and went to scrod heaven. We hail from the esteemed township of East Brunswick and as time goes on our crew has spread out throughout the garden state so this is the mid point restaurant of champions. Before Covid we were meeting here quarterly for the T Bones , 24 ouncers, and wings. All glorious. We reunited for the first time in 2 plus years and we couldn't wait to get 7 forks on a New Bedford Baked Scrod for an appetizer with the pastrami sandwich and 2 orders of crispy beautiful Buffalo wings. For entrees it was straight 5 orders of 24 ouncers medium rare and 2 steak n rib combos. All cooked to perfection. For dessert JBs wife dropped off a cake cuz the broham turned 41 and as the mighty zeppelin says all that glitters is gold. Only when the Giants go to the playoffs this year do we get to elbow drop a Harold's cheesecake from the roof of a car. $150 we'll spent if you ask me. Our server was outstanding. She didn't miss a beat. Attentive and just great overall service delivered. Last remarks: Don't sleep on the Scrod. This place was talked up for years, maybe it used to be good but as of last night it was terrible. Warm salad , outrageous prices. We didn't even make it past the appetizers. Unclean shrimp in the shrimp cocktail. "Garlic bread" was a 98¢ gas station roll with warm butter and chunks of garlic spread on top. Went to this establishment as a first time customer and had a pretty bad experience. The food was good and although empty, I liked the ambiance. The problem was that the drinks took 30 minutes. 2 very simple drinks and 1 beer. When I asked what was going on there was no sense of urgency and even my speaking up did nothing to move things along. Even in the most crowded of restaurants drinks have never taken that long. There was maybe 2 tables eating in the whole restaurant and 2 ppl at the bar. Just not acceptable. And then there was the incorrect temperatures on the steaks/burger. Seems like the server was more of a runner/busboy. Didn't have basic server skills. He did his best though and ultimately he doesn't make the drinks but I would've appreciated if he told the bartender to hurry up with his tables drinks. But like I said, " the food was good". Ambiance 5/10 This place is more pub than steakhouse in my opinion. Right when you walk in you'll see that it's spacious and has that bar feel to eat . There's lots of TV around so if you wanna catch a sporting event or even UFC fight I would try here as it seems out of the way and low key. Service 7/10 No problems with the service. It was good, attentive, and timely . Food : 3/10 I ordered the famous "Our Steak" which is a 24 ounce cut of meat for about $25.00 . I guess the way I ordered my steak was too high end. I ordered it black and blue and when it arrived, it was not as such. I cut into it and it was more medium well . Disappointment #1 not the way I wanted it . Disappointment #2 the steak lacked any seasoning and was very bland and quite chewy . I'm guessing the chewiness is due to it being medium well, but alas it was still bland overall. I contemplated even using A1 sauce but I decided against it. Disappointment #3 the cut of meat that I received had lots of fat on it . The only good part about the meal was the potatoes it came with. They were the best I've eaten. That still doesn't save the dish though . Conclusion Arthur's Steakhouse and Pub is a meh for me. I'm not going to be coming back anytime soon. If I'm looking for $20+ dollar steak that's good I'll just go to Longhorn Steakhouse, I know at least it will be seasoned properly and I'll enjoy it . My family has been eating here for well over 20 years. We've been giving it the benefit of the doubt as it has slowly slid down hill. Last week we visited the restaurant for the 2nd time since the COVID closures and, sadly, it will probably be last time we ever visit here. The service was horrible. We waited over 40 minutes to place our orders and another hour to get our appetizers. This was despite the fact that we were the only table in the bar area and there were only two tables being used in the other side of the restaurant. The pickles provided when we sat down used to be plentiful and refilled without request. They also used to be fresh and crisp. This night we received only 7 pickles for 5 people, and they were mushy and blah. The wonderful onion soup we used to love came out bad also. It was lukewarm, the cheese on top was not fully melted and the crocks were only half full. Our entrees were flavorless, the corned beef and chicken parmesan actually tasted the same. In a word, leftovers. We've been to the Lynhurst location many times. Always satisfied. The health salad and pickles came out warm. Above room temperature. Absolutely not refrigerated. Seems like it was stored near a heat source. The pastrami came out old, reheated, tough. The bread was at least a day old, dry. When you have steamed meats, wouldn't it pay to get some of that moist heat on the old bread to warm it up and add a little softness to it? Next time, when the urge hits, we'll go to Lynhurst, or elsewhere. Overall, the place needs to be freshened up. There was a slight hint of mold in the air. I haven't been here in a few years and although I remember them having awesomely flavored steaks it definitely wasn't the case this time. Our waitress was friendly and was pretty busy . I ordered a French onion soup and it didn't come out until 5 minutes before my steak did and I had to send it back. The broth wasn't even hot only the top where the cheese had been melted. Me and my husband ordered steaks and I asked for medium rare which part of my steak was when the waitress asked us to check if steak was cooked to our liking. It definitely had inconsistent parts of the steak that was medium. My husbands was cooked to his liking . One thing was our steaks lacked that flavor factor this time around. This is the more "reasonably priced" Arthur's of the group of N.J. steakhouses, which are now down to two locations. The Morris Plains Arthur's charges $4-$5 more on its prices than North Brunswick. The Hoboken Arthur's is now out of business and its building is undergoing renovations (the owners sold off all the interior fixtures, beer signs, etc., and haven't indicated if they'll reopen there; as the building it being renovated to the studs, chances are if an Arthur's reopens there, it won't be anything like the "old Arthur's: that was a fixture there, and well-known for it's terrific "cheap" steak. However, the Hoboken Arthur's got to be as costly as a top-tier steakhouse (which Arthur's isn't)., as is the Morris Plain's Arthur's, which is very similar in profile to the much more upscale Root's on the green in Morristown, just a few miles down the road. Harold's Deli, in Lyndhurst, N.J., also sells Arthur's steak dinners (it had them on their online menu in June 2022). It's been years since I was there, but I do remember a pickle/hot pepper/cole slaw bar that was all you can eat, to maintain that part of the Arthur's in-restaurant experience at a restaurant that much be licensing the steak menu from Arthur's, while primarily selling the over-stuffed deli sandwiches and similar foods. The "Our Steak" in New Brunswick was $38.95, and a pretty good steak. It was done perfectly, and the grilled potatoes are great. They bring the bowl of garlic pickles and cherry peppers after you order (rather than being on the table when you sit down), plus a bowl of coleslaw -- just like the other Arthur's locations, only at a different time in the dining process. The only change with the steak is they used to include a cherry pepper on the plate, but don't now. Otherwise, the steak is very good. My dining companions ordered Caesar salads as entrees, and were a bit underwhelmed by the size. The salads are in a bowl about 8" across and an inch or so deep. Don't plan to make a meal out of them. Their French fries were good. One at our table ordered a hamburger which was properly cooked and had enough toppings. The "Wedge of Lettuce" salad is great, as always. It is about 1/3 of a head of iceberg lettuce cut in a wedge, and topped with crumbled blue cheese, chopped tomatoes, and bacon crumbles. You have your choice of dressings. The one complaint is once it arrives, you have to gallop through it quickly and may not finish it before the steak arrives. Having a bit longer to eat the appetizer salad without rushing would be appreciated! Every Arthur's I've been to has been too quick with the entrees after the salads. Sodas are bottomless free refills. Beer is in pints, or a larger mug that might be in the 24-ounce range. The beers are the fairly standard types (Bud, Guinness, Yeungling, etc., and the one micro brew they had on the menu was sold out). It's not a bar for beer aficionados, but has the basics. This location does have a full bar, plenty of off-street parking on the side and back, and has a good waitstaff that is attentive. By the exit, in a cabinet, they have the dessert cakes, which were -- no kidding -- about 10" high. They are a marvel to see, and very hard to imagine how they serve a slice of that size! If you are someone that misses the old Arthur's Steaks restaurants without the price gouging of the past two years, the North Brunswick location is for you. read more

When you first get there and get in you're gonna say what's this place about lol. It kinda has a different feel in each room and the bar looks like a NASCAR fans basement. But you're there to eat so move past that. The buffalo wings are legit! I mean the closest I've had to those actually from Buffalo. And the appetizers are spot on. The beer is cold and a decent selection and priced average. The steaks can be huge depending on the cut but they're sirloins, not the top quality but for the portion they're ok. We were staying with my buddy Mike for a night and he recommended this place for dinner. Originally, the whole family was going to come along, but they were tired and sleeping since we took a red eye flight last night. It turned out that only me and Mike were going to make it down here for dinner. We were meeting the famous Bergen County Queen herself, Yelper extraordinaire, Lor A. I was super excited to meet her plus my buddy Mike was hyping up how delicious their steak here was. We arrived a little bit late because of traffic and Lor was already there waiting for us. We made our introductions and then went inside to get down to business. We were seated at a 4 person table in the back corner of the restaurant which turned our perfect. It gave us space to chill and some privacy to chat it up. We looked at the menu for a bit and then placed our orders. Per my buddy Mikes recommendation, I went with the "Our Steak". It's a 24 ounce Delmonico steak that comes with their house potatoes. I had water to drink. Here is how the steak was.......... "Our Steak"- This plate came out and was large and in charge. This steak was a beast! It was so big, it was practically falling off the plate! It was cooked a perfect medium like I had requested and it tasted great! It was so big, I could only finish half. I took the rest home! The potatoes that came with the meal were decent. Some of them could have been a bit more soft, but overall they were fairly solid. We chatted it up for awhile, finished our meal and were on our way. Overall, the steak was incredibly delicious. The potatoes were decent and the service was alright. Overall, it was a solid 4 star dining experience. The added star was strictly due to the company I was with. I had a great meal with an old friend from Santa Barbara (Mike) and got the chance to meet a new friend thanks to Yelp (Lor A.)! Honda car - at Yugo prices! --- I heard quite a bit about this place for several months, so we decided to check it out. The first thing I noticed was the "Elk Lodge" type of environment (exposed wood boards; plaid-patterned, plastic table cloth; disposable appetizer plates; random beer ads printed on mirrors). No matter, let's talk food! She decided on the house special 24 oz; I got the T bone 19 oz Garlic bread was only so so. The Complimentary Hot peppers and the house slaw was actually very good. The slaw was almost like Cole slaw, but without mayo, which actually earned MAJOR bonus points with me. Now, onto the piece de resistance - the 24 oz house special was appropriately seasoned, and tender (but that was because of lots of "marbling") My T-bone was even better. Juicy, flavorful, and a delicious filet portion of the T, which she really enjoyed. One negative would be their failure to control the cooking temperature properly - even though they attempt to control for this by using color-coded plastic stakes. FYI, Medium rare should be warm red center, with some juice, NOT pink. Most places can't seem to realize the steaks keep cooking AFTER you remove them from heat. Thanks Christine for offering to replace bad food with more bad food instead crediting my card for the nachos - $12 wasn't totally the issue here. The waiters were also confused as we were approached by our second waiter who asked us for drinks after our order was taken. Food: We ordered mozzarella sticks for a appetizer. I can go eslty say they were not bad. Pretty decent marinara sauce. They also brought us whole pickes and a bowl of a house "salad" which was terrible. It was cold and slimy and tart. I ordered the 14oz NY Strip unsliced contrary to what the menu says. The cook was spot on and there was some flavor there. I was really impressed with my steak despite the atmosphere. ****NEVER EATING HERE AGAIN **** Check your receipts! They charge an extra 50 cents for lettuce, 50 cents for tomato, 50 cents for onions, and 50 cents for cheese, on a cheese burger... when you already pay a different price for a cheeseburger vs a regular hamburger. I also asked to substitute French fries instead of a baked potato, and they charged me an extra $1.75. The waiter had no clue to the extra prices. His response "there must be some error in our system that we need to address" and I responded "well I'm paying for that issue" ... and well so was his tip. I feel bad but how are these extra price charges not noted on the menu? Porterhouse was good enough, but not for the annoyance of the pricing. Long story short, this place is nickel and dime-ing you.
