I got the chicken and waffles. Wasn't a fan. The chicken was delicious. But they gave me 3/4 of a waffle, which was ridiculous since they intentionally took out the last quarter. Why would I want 3/4 of a waffle?? Another person at my table also got the chicken and waffles, and they too only got 3/4 of a waffle. The plate came with home fries, but I was told they would be hashbrowns. They were COVERED in onions; the waiter just told me that it was hashbrowns, no mention of onions or any toppings. Went to Artie's last night with 2 friends. We were welcoming a former neighbor who returned to the area for a visit. As always, the ambiance was great. We were seated at a comfortable booth and the restaurant was busy and lively. The waiter, Fintan, was the best. He was super attentive to all of us and was friendly, courteous, and an overall excellent waiter. His service added so much to the amazing dining experience. He is clearly an asset to the Artie's team! Artie's continues to be my favorite restaurant in the Northern Virginia area. read more

Well, I probably had my last meal at a GAR this week. Below this review is my review from February about Sweetwater in Sterling: It happened AGAIN at Arties, which used to be my favorite GAR. Thursday was the year anniversary of my mother's death. For many years, when my parents were alive and lived in Annandale they went to Silverado EVERY SINGLE DAY. They had a favorite waiter who remembered their birthdays and anniversary. They were made to feel like celebrities (my mother was very demanding but this particular waiter was so wonderful and just won her over). The day of my mom's funeral we went to Silverado in honor of her and my previously deceased father. However, my two sisters and I went to Arties after visiting our parents' graves. Stupidly we ordered a bottle of wine and and appetizer BEFORE I could ask the waitress about ordering a children's salmon meal because there was a wait and we were seated at the bar. Once we got a table and were ready to order, I explained my medical condition and asked if I could order the children's salmon. I was given the same BS excuse as in February at Sweetwater Sterling. When I contacted corporate, one of the managing partners had reached out to me, apologized and sent me a gift card. I asked the waitress if I could order a To-Go children's salmon because at this point I was ready to leave and eat it outside. Would I have to prove I have a child at home?? Do you understand how vulnerable it makes you to explain to a complete stranger that you've had gastric bypass surgery? She said she would ask the manager but never returned with an answer until magically they had enough of the children's salmon to serve to an adult. We ordered a total of 3 regular meals, the children's salmon, bread, an appetizer and a bottle of wine. My suggestion for GAR: create "small plates" that don't discriminate by age. Some people physically cannot eat a regular meal and don't want to bring most of it home (like salmon) to reheat. If you run out of the children's salmon, you can just tell them you've run out. I doubt a child is going to have a fit if they can't eat salmon. Is a child customer more important than an adult? With the drastic increase in prices and the embarrassment happening again, I don't want to give another penny to GAR. They should value their customers more than money but sadly as they've grown in their # of restaurants, their humanity has dissipated. It's all about making money for them. Brenda J. I was told that they were worried about running out of the children's salmon and that EVERY PREVIOUS time I was allowed to order off of the children's menu for a LEGITIMATE MEDICAL REASON, the waiter was breaking the rules. I asked to speak to the manager and Jon did the eye roll equivalent with his face. The manager told me about their serious concern about running out of the children's salmon. REALLY?? How many children order salmon? I understand if it was the chicken tenders or macaroni but ok. So I handed my menu to the manager and said I didn't want anything. He didn't question me and left. I ordered a $14 glass of wine so it wasn't like I was just trying to be cheap. Additionally, Jon never asked my friend how her burger was. It was burned and she only ate half. She gave him feedback at the end. He turned, ignored her and walked away. 1) Jon has NO BUSINESS being a waiter. He has NO PEOPLE SKILLS and is rude. 2) Management handled this situation very poorly. read more

Artie's is one of my favorite Great American Restaurants. One of the few restaurants I don't mind sitting in rush hour traffic to get to. The staff is polite and the service is good. The food is consistently enjoyable. Plus they have homemade ice cream! As long as there's an Artie's in Fairfax, I'll be going there. read more

Artie's is not my favorite Great American Restaurant, but there's something nostalgic about it that I really adore. It's their sort of place your grandma loves for a weekday lunch; when you take off from school to go out with her, she brags to the waiter about what an amazing kid you are and she lets you get a second helping of the amazing complementary rolls. The decor is a throwback - lots of medium-toned wood and a sort of nautical vibe. The food is classic American - salads, burgers, sandwiches. Your meat will probably be a bit more well done than expected, which is why I asked for my salmon medium but it came out medium well. I am a fan of the salads. This is a place to take non-adventurous eaters who just want a solid if slightly boring meal. read more

Brought the s/o here as a pre-Father's Day dinner. Service was exceptional, when we walked in, we were greeted by 5 wait staff. We had a 5:45 p.m. reservations. As soon as we sat down my s/o put in his order for the drunk prime rib, which is only served Thursdays-Saturday. It takes some time to cook. We ordered the calamari as an app, it was okay, this was the first time I've had an order of calamari mixed with onion rings.... I had the chopped salad with grilled salmon on top, it was pretty delicious... Let's talk about the steak... For the record, the man loved his steak, only gripe he had was it was more medium, than medium well. Personally, I thought the steak was 5/10. I like flavorful & lightly seasoned steaks. But hey, if the man was happy then..... At Mike's in Springfield, they have a bread pudding to die for. I was so excited to know Artie's had it as well! Man, forget their damn steak, the white chocolate bread pudding was so delicious it made want to smack someone's mama, come back again n smack her again. Came in with my friend for a late lunch/ early dinner. The place was pretty empty but there was still about 5 so we were sat immediately. Our server was nice, efficient and extremely hospitable. Our drink glasses were never empty, empty dishes were cleared by anyone who worked there and passed by and promptly, and we never felt rushed despite taking our sweet time. We started with firecracker - or something like that - shrimp. My friend loved it. I thought it was ok. The flavors were there but the shrimp was a little over cooked. We also had lots of those pillowy little ozzy rolls that were amazing. Hot, light, and delicious. My friend is highly allergic to nuts so he made sure to bring her out her own bread baskets of just ozzy rolls since some of the bread in the usual basket have walnuts. My friend got the fish of the day. She absolutely loved it and said if it was on the menu that would be her go to. I got the crab cake sandwich with fries. The fries are matchstick size which isn't my favorite and they lacked seasoning. But after a quick dash of salt and pepper they were tolerable. The crab cake was pretty good. You could actually see the chunks of crab in it. I'm pretty picky about my crab cake so I wish this had more of an old bay flavor to it and that it was broiled instead of fried. I probably could of asked. But it was ok. The bun that it came on was light and airy but to me still a bit cumbersome. So I ate it open faced and it was great. The sauce that came with the crab cake I wasn't a fan of. It didn't have enough of a kick to it so I just used cocktail sauce. The absolute best part of the menu was the creme brûlée at the end. I was able to squeeze in two visits to this tasty spot when in the D.C. area recently. What an amazing spot with the most wonderful food. I flew in to Dulles on a Sunday afternoon and was taken here by my host for Sunday evening dinner. When my host asked what I would like to do on Monday for lunch (little food in the house because we were flying out of the country for a week's vacation), where else did I say I wanted to go other than a second trip to Artie's! It was another fabulous meal and it held us over nicely until we had breakfast some 18 hours later at our destination. My only regret is there isn't an Artie's in my town. read more

Well, what can I say? I'm throwing 5 stars at Artie's; all the positive reviews are legit, the service and food were awesome sauce. I sat at the bar when I arrived to wait on my brother. The server, Sarah quickly approached me, got my drink order and continuously used my name throughout my dine in experience. She was witty, funny, attentive and darn right awesome. If I was the manager of this place, I would give her an on the spot award! My brother and I decided to stay at the bar to eat our dinner because we were quite content in our seats and because of Sarah. We ordered two appetizers. The Tex Mex Eggrolls, they were good, however, I am biased towards Chili's Southwest Eggrolls. Please do not get me wrong, the Tex Mex rolls were QUITE good. The Blue Crab Fritters were SO good, like slap yo momma good. Disclaimer: Please DON'T smack your mom, that is SO disrespectful lol. I almost forgot! Sarah gave us the Tex Mex Eggrolls for free! Literally, she gave it to us for free for no reason; woohoo! My brother got the jambalaya and it was full of flavor and scrumptious. My brother only offered me one bite because he's greedy lol, but that one bite was darn good! I got the Hickory Grilled Chicken, it was also very good and surprisingly light. We chose this place for my mom's 60th birthday. We were seated very quickly, despite not making a reservation. The service was great! Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu items, and thoroughly explained each choice. The food was amazing, and cooked to order. I couldn't have been more please. As someone with many foreign friends, that is an unacceptable practice for any business. Also, PR is part of the US and their IDs are valid across the US. This place has the best service in Fairfax hands down. It's apart of the Great American Restaurants (Costal Flats, Sweet Green, ect.). This location hires waiters who are really good. Literally they say hello right when you walk in the door and are very friendly. I could not be more impressed by how professional they are. I like the Aussie rolls. They are little rolls that have a fluffy inside and it comes with a sweet whipped butter. The bread is always brought out immediately with the drinks. The menu selection is a little bit limited. Their Brunch menu is a combination of some of their standards and a small selection of specialty options. I have sampled most of the specialty items and they are all delicious. But, I must say, my favorite is the Filet Mignon and Eggs. Yup ... an upgraded "steak and eggs" where the meat is cooked to perfection and the eggs delivered as desired. And for those of you that are familiar with The Great American Restaurants, you must try the Ozzie rolls during the brunch hours. They are covered with granulated sugar, adding an additional level of sweetness and flavor then there normal option. Of course, it is served with their whipped herb butter. I dare you to only have one! As for the service, this small regional restaurant chain has perfected this. Their wait staff is always pleasant, professional, and there to serve your needs. My husband and I are big fans of the Great American restaurants and this was still on our list to try. We arrived about 830pm on Friday night. The restaurant was busy but I called ahead knowing this might be the case and we were seated fairly quickly upon arrival. Neither of us had a taste for anything. We got drinks and stared at the menu. We've never had a bad experience at any of this groups restaurants. He got an old fashioned and I got a glass of Cabernet. We settled on an appetizer of fried calamari. This was delicious. It's a great size and the calamari is layer on top of a delicious lobster ginger sauce That was pretty filling. So I convinced my husband we should share an entree. We decided to go with the bone in rib eye. Omg this thing is huge. We subbed the baked potato for fries and got a side of broccolini. My husband ordered the steak medium rare and it came out perfect. Ordered takeout from here for the first time. Two burgers, one with fries and one with asparagus. We also ordered a mojito and moscow mule. Pretty basic order. The burgers were good, as was the asparagus. Overall, the drinks were decent (as expected, basic but good) and worth the price. Unfortunately, the basics of customer service missed the mark. The fries were ICE cold. Not warm, like they had been kept under the heat lamp for a while, but COLD as soon as I got to the car. I didn't feel like going back in, but they were terrible. We had asked for ketchup, and they gave us two packs for all the fries. They forgot to give us straws with our drinks, and the presentation of a 3/4 filled drink cup isn't great, though I understand the limited to-go options for takeout beverage-ware. It isn't a good look, but I think I received a standard sized drink in a cup that was slightly too big. I'd try them again, but would probably go elsewhere first. read more

Came here for brunch and had a great time. G made reservations for 11 am, which was perfect. The hostess was very friendly and seated us quickly. Our server was personable, knowledgeable, and attentive. Their complimentary bread basket is filled with goodies. We started out with the blue crab fritters, which was absolutely delicious. Light crispy exterior with a plump and juicy blue crab interior (shaped like a meatball). Excellent! The sauce around it and grilled corn on the side was well made. The Chicken and Waffles were perfect. The chicken had a crispy light coating. The meat was juicy and well seasoned, had a slight kick to it. The maple-bacon-bourbon syrup on the side is on point. Drizzle that all over the chicken and waffles and it's love at first bite. Ended our meal with one of my favorite desserts at any Great American Restaurant, the Chocolate Waffle. Warm smooth chocolate in between a slightly crisp chocolate waffle with vanilla ice cream on the side. Add a dollop of homemade whipped cream and you've got yourself a home run. Artie's serves "classic American" cuisine. It's located amongst many Korean restaurants, somewhat randomly. Comically, I've been here twice and forget what I had as an entree each time. I love Artie's. It's a beautiful restaurant. The wood paneling is warm and inviting. If you have to sit at the bar before your meal on a crowded night, the bartenders keep you entertained with their hospitality and light banter. The restaurant side is nautical themed, more boating than fishy as some have mentioned, especially in comparison to Coastal Flats. The booths are cozy and feel very intimate. The food is spectacular; on par with the other Great American Restaurants in the area, most comparable with Mike's IMO. They also feature GAR craft brews and have a fantastic wine selection. I highly recommend the boathouse salad, the chicken tenders (not even kidding), the jambalaya pasta, rare seared tuna (pictured), and their ribs (beef ribs pictured). Although to be fair, I don't think there is anything on the menu that I have disliked. Great food, great service, great atmosphere.
