Arties is easily our favorite family restaurant. It isn't a place that is reinventing food or anything, but quality and service are high and consistent especially relative to the prices. We like most of the restaurants in this family of restaurants, but arties is number one. Doesn't hurt that it's the closest to us. read more

I didn't realize that this was part of a local chain but I was happy to try it with a friend for a nice evening meal. We each ended up getting a ribeye steak with the baked potato and shared another side. It was quite good but I thought there was a little bit too much fat in my ribeye for me to really love it. Service was pretty busy but good on a Saturday night. They do have an adjacent parking lot which is free and I had no issues with parking. Overall I'm glad I came here and I think I would come back to have another dining experience. read more

Came here with a friend after originally trying to go to Another brunch spot and encountering an hour and a half wait. We snagged an online reservation, easily parked in the large lot and were seated promptly. Service was just okay, we received our meal before our starters and drinks, but I think our sever was new! I understand policy but I also worked in customer service long enough to know that sometimes policies can be changed. We have been going there since it opened. Excellent red beans and rice! Great etouffee and gumbo. They are tucked away in a corner, so it's hard to find them, but the food is the main attraction here guys. You can't go wrong with the menu. The staff are also very nice. They're mostly quiet but always helpful. Great place for cajun food. read more

It was a busy place. Parking a problem and a bit hard to find even though a local. Had to wait with reservation but no problem as came early. Booths and service OK. Food nothing special to me as not willing to take on a 22oz blackened prime rib or any other monstrous meat special. Spouse had salmon which was liked but not the smashed potatoes. My martini was watery weak. I had pork ribs as beef not available. OK but not tangy or what I am used to Chicago style. French fries were good. Placed smelled a bit old. Like an old Wisconsin supper club that smoked and grilled too many dinners and too long unchanged. Tables were sticky and tacky. Needs a deep clean. Forgot the take home from my meal but glad as would have tossed anyway. If you want too much to eat and OK food this will do well. Waitress tossed the bill over the railing onto the table while talking to friend. Tip down 5% accordingly. Kind of a bigger than normal chain steakhouse place. Had a good dinner on a busy Friday night. I was able to call ahead which was great since many people were waiting when we arrived. Our server was very nice and vibrant, and checked on us regularly. The firecracker shrimp and filet mignon were wonderful. Haven't been to Artie's in years but glad to see them back open. read more

Cross another Great American Restaurant (GAR) off my list. That just leaves one that I have not been to, Jackson's. Artie's reminds me of a poor man's Mike's. The menu is similar in price and in fare, except Artie's seems to have a more casual ambiance compared to Mike's. How can I forget the Ozzie rolls? Yes, Artie's serves these just like most of their other sister restaurants (Silverado, Best Buns, and Carlyle do not serve them), and they are really good. I think it is best to go for a weekend brunch, when they are doused in cinnamon and sugar (I can already feel my arteries closing as I type this sentence). I went here for dinner along with my sister, brother, and my brother's girlfriend to celebrate my brother's birthday. Our entrees were quite similar. Except for my brother, we all got the hickory chicken breast with string beans and pasta. My brother got the penne primavera with chicken, and a clam chowder. The service is prompt, and the food tasted exactly how I expected it to. My chicken was a little dry, but certainly tender on the inside, so the smoky flavor I know from this dish was not lost. Everybody else seemed to enjoy what they had. I give this restaurant 3 stars because there is no flash and flair here, just a fun casual experience to get something to eat and have a good time. In addition, they could at least meet that expectation by lowering their prices roughly $2 or $3 (even $5). While we had a nice time, if you are looking for a good GAR, I would suggest trying Ozzie's Good Eats. Read my review for that one, it is definitely worth the trip over to Fairfax Corner. read more

Four of us from work stopped in here this afternoon for a well-deserved lunch. Surprisingly we were not the only ones who decided to have lunch here on this Monday afternoon. The restaurant was quite busy. We only waited about two minutes for a table that seated the four of us, and I have to admit about how impressed I was about how classy the restaurant is. For starters we all voted to get two orders of lobster bisque. I ordered iced tea to drink and pretty much every one else ordered soda or water. It was a lovely environment for us to sit at the table and talk about the day's events. Not long after we each decided on a lunch entre. I ordered the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich that also included a side of french fries. I think a couple of other friends ordered Cesar salads. The chicken sandwich itself was much larger than I had expected, but I still managed to eat most of it. The fries were delicious and the Server was right on time with the ketchup for those fries! I can't say enough good things about Artie's. My mom and I wanted to take my grandfather out for a nice meal for his 90th birthday. Every employee we interacted with was friendly, polite and dealt well with my Gramps who thinks he's hilarious. I really like the way the servers worked as a team and wish more restaurants ran the same way. The food was delicious, the servings were the perfect size. My wife and I went for Easter brunch. Food as always along with service was top notch. I like Arti's. The restaurant gives me that when I was a child (many moons ago LOL) and my Mom would take me to a cool restaurant for dinner after church type of feeling. Again food selections were great only thing was, they discontinued Chicken and Waffles on the menu. This was sort of a let down because that was the dish we had many times for Easter Brunch. When I asked the manager he explained that upper management revamped the menus throughout the Great American restaurants after the fire. I look forward to the next time my wife and I have dinner here. I hope that maybe upper management can find it in their heart to bring back the Chicken and waffles. Thayer is awesome! Great young man with a strong knowledge of the menu. Had a fantastic meal that started with hand crafted cocktails, a lightly breaded calamari and their signature bread basket. We decided to top that off with the Waldorf salad with the filet beef tips and crumbled blue cheese. One of my favorite places for lunch. Let's start with the positives- great food. My meal was absolutely delicious and the sundae was to die for! However the service was... not it. I felt honestly mistreated and like I shouldn't be there. We ordered the Ozzie rolls and they didn't even bring out the plates. Long story short we ate off the wrapper and the waitress didn't care to help- felt like savages just trying to have a nice birthday meal. 5-Star food (blackened prime rib), 1-Star customer service Obviously, this place is not lacking for customers. I do want to note, however, that their existing policies seem designed to drive away traffic. Basically, if you want to partake of their prime rib in a covid-friendly way you are out of luck. You can't order it on their online app (because it is a "special"?!?) and the restaurant is quick to tell you that you can't order it over the phone. Your only choice is to order takeaway at the bar. In my case, though I was testing negative, I had just gotten over a case of Covid. Rather than exposing people in the restaurant, I wanted to celebrate my recovery with a takeout prime rib. Not allowing people to just order food by phone (especially, items impossible to order by their app) to me reflects a general callous insensitivity to customer service. I hope the restaurant would be willing to reconsider this policy. As it is, it will be a long time before I think of giving my business to another GAR restaurant. As good as the food is, the customer policies leave a very bad taste! read more

Artie's is a restaurant that I really want to like, the decor and vibe of the place is great. It's clubby, super club in feel, reminds me of establishments in upstate Wisconsin. No fish boil, but with specials that are regular offerings on specific days. That is my problem. Come on a Monday and they don't have the beef ribs. Come in a Tuesday and no prime rib. These are dishes I'd like to try so guess I'll have to plan better during the week. Service was off, we had three staff members servicing our table. Maybe it was off since they messed up on one of the orders which made it awkward for those of us with meals to start eating when one of our party was waiting on their meal. Seemed to take a while for that meal to come to the table. Would think it would be a priority between the kitchen and wait staff to fix it. What kept happening was one of the three staff members would apologize for the error and tell us the meal was coming. It made the experience awkward. This is my new favorite brunch spot in the Fairfax area. The food was good and well priced. Located near the Bowl America, from the outside, it looked a bit run down. But the interior of the restaurant was beautiful. I went during the winter season, and it looked like the workers spent a whole day decorating because every surface was decorated from head to toe. Artie's is like that sweet and reliable lover that you keep returning to... Seriously though. Since there are so many reviews here, I will only reinforce the words of these amazing writers. Artie's is a restaurant where no matter 'when' you go, you will hardly ever be disappointed. Very few times I've had any hiccups with a server at Artie's since I became one of their loyal devotees. The chefs at Artie's do their own special ART when in the kitchen. I often wonder what they're doing in the kitchen. I'd love a sneak peak! The food always comes out soo fast. Anything that you order from the menu will leave you licking your lips. I am always in a dilemma of what to order because if I order one thing I'll be missing out on the other thing. Can you imagine being at the mercy of these chefs? I keep reminding myself I just need to come back again and again. Go to Artie's when you want to have a family dinner. Food: 4 stars Service: 5 stars Very homey, wooden decor, very large establishment that can serve hundreds at a time. They have their own parking lot. Surrounded by small businesses in a strip mall, they are the only decent place to eat around that neighborhood. They are also hard to find as their entrance is a bit in the back. FOOD: good They serve brunch till 2 pm and lunch/dinner menu after that. Their food isn't fancy, but tastes good, bigger portion and hearty. What I loved the most was their in-house baked mini donuts they give instead of bread and the fruit and nuts bread was truly nuts, so good. I would have ordered bunch of bread to go if possible. Burgers are good and juicy. Drinks: their old fashioned was quite good. Would not at all recommend the $8 a glass mimosa. They don't have bottomless anything here. Service is efficient and fast and nice. We had like 5 different people as servers during our 2 hours there. They don't seem to have an assigned server, but whoever is available takes over? Maybe we were there during the two shifts changed, who knows.. sometimes it was blurry as I initially thought I should wait for our original server. I'd recommend this place if you want some very hearty dish for brunch and great place to come with family. read more

A $46 dollar ribeye should never have burnt crisp edges. I am assuming they attempted to sear, but bc of the marinade or sauce this sear was actually just burns. The arties mule was really good though, and the vinaigrette on the field greens salad too. Service was top notch. read more

Service was average. I hate being rushed through service. Food was ok. We had the ribeyes, short smoked salmon, and crispy fried point calamari. Ribeye didn't need that sauce. Came on a Sunday after church and discovered they eliminated the brunch menu and only serve lunch and dinner. (Although their front door still lists brunch hours.) Van Dyke Park is a short drive away so easy to take the kids to run off some energy afterwards. Also disappointing is the fact that Arties eliminated disposable cups (supposedly due to Covid...which doesn't make much sense) so the kids couldn't take their drinks to Van Dyke Park. Bathrooms do not have any step stools for smaller kids to easily reach the sink. They have a kids menu (pasta, burger, chicken fingers and salmon) but no kids activity placemats/crayons. For these reasons, I wouldn't necessarily call Arties family-friendly per se, but they meet kids' basic needs. It is a good spot for bringing out of town adult guests since GAR is unique to our area and the food is consistently good. Menu is similar to Sweetwater Tavern so it's likely we won't be frequenting this GAR location since it's a bit out of our way and the menu is the same. read more

From the yummy complimentary bread to the shoestring fries to the must have crab cakes. *Dinner and Lunch Review Only...Have never been here for brunch* We've been coming here for over 10 years and love the atmosphere and the food! We've been with just-okay servers to fantastic servers. They've also added a gluten free menu!!! The crab cake is a must have, and the chicken tenders are just delightful (very airy and puffy breading--order it and you'll know what I'm talking about.) You can never go wrong with the salads, and the jambalaya is always a popular option. The calamari is a great appetizer to share! The shoestring fries are wonderful and addicting! We always get a bottle of wine to share, which goes so well with their food. It is a bit on the pricey side, but aren't all good restaurants like that? ** I would definitely make a reservation/ call ahead before going (just in case)** The only "con" is that I noticed their serving size for entrees (especially the salads) have decreased. read more

We called last minute for a reservation on Father's Days we were sit fast. Although everybody else's brunch was amazing. Mine was cold, I order the Crab cakes with poached eggs.. the eggs were cold. However my girlfriend French toast were amazing as well as out appetizer, the lobster bisque soup. It was father Day today and the coffee was a bit slow on the refills. I had the most amazing swordfish with jicama slaw on a tostado with arugula, black beans, radishes and lime vinaigrette. It was the fish special of the night so not a normal menu item- please make it one! The surprise ingredient was avocado which I don't recall being listed in the waiter's description but a lovely and essential ingredient. I had plenty for lunch the next day. The chicken fingers were pretty tasty too with a very light batter and shoestring fries. Going in I didn't know what to expect since I didn't pick the place or get a heads up in order to check yelp ;) and it shared a parking lot with a bowling alley, which was busier! (It was a Wednesday night so league night perhaps?) The ambiance was lovely with a nautical theme and all booths! I guessed, correctly, that they are part of the Great American Restaurant group when the bread basket contained those small doughnut thingys. Went to Artie's last night with 2 friends. We were welcoming a former neighbor who returned to the area for a visit. As always, the ambiance was great. We were seated at a comfortable booth and the restaurant was busy and lively. The waiter, Fintan, was the best. He was super attentive to all of us and was friendly, courteous, and an overall excellent waiter. His service added so much to the amazing dining experience.
