24-hour hood Mexican food, done right- breakfast is available at 6AM, everything is massive portions and low prices. Heads up that it's cash tips only, so take it to go if you don't have the scratch. Dining in also nets you a basket of chips and salsa. Came here for breakfast and lunch, the chilaquiles and a platter of tacos, around $8/meal. The breakfast options are solid and traditional, with homey flavors. Tacos are about $3/each and packed with meat, the suadero being the favorite. Almost everything comes with sides of rice and beans, which were surprisingly delicious. Bonus points for having a dedicated parking lot behind the building, and they are walking distance to Ipsento- but don't leave your car for long, there are a ton of tow signs posted. TIP: Ask nicely for them to turn down the blasting mariachi music, I think they play it so loud to keep the employees awake and alert. read more

If you are looking to eat here during daylight hours, I wouldn't suggest it. I ordered a margarita and it had a green and black ice chunk stuck to the bottom... it began melting and smelled of fish. Pretty good taco place for after hours when you're done having a night out in Chicago. It gets really packed after midnight but the wait time isn't too bad. You seat yourself upon walking in on whatever tables are open. The food is really good and the meat is cut fresh which was really nice. Chips and salsa are good but you get charged extra if you want a refill. The service by the servers could definitely be better. As of late, this has been my sis' late night stop to sober up after a night of drinking-she even tried to convince them to serve her and her friends a pitcher at 5 am. (They said no) So, here's the calculus so far: late-night spot, 24-hours=bleh tacos, but it's good for the late-night post drinking crowd. Well, they get partial credit, anyway. The Al Pastor- 'mexican gyro' as they call it is a pretty tasty one, it wasn't the best I had but a really good one. The chorizo taco was okay, but really greasy, the messiest one I had but the chorizo was a tasty one. The asada was actually the least impressive. I didn't get that much flavor out of it. I would probably double up on the Al Pastor and skip the asada. We were there in the early afternoon and I felt like we were forgotten. Our waitress came by once or twice but after that we had to flag her down for more salsa and pico. I wanted to get another Jarritos, but that came and passed before she even came by again. You'll experience all kinds of people here from drunkards to late night workers to just plain hungry folks. The food here is inexpensive which is a blessing. Ordering can be tricky because a couple of friends and I wanted to eat in. It was also our first time here so here's what we did: couple of us ordered to-go/at the counter while one of us scoped around the place to claim seats based on which table was almost done paying their checks. Give or take about 7-10 minutes, we found a spot. I got two avocado tacos and I wish I got three because for something inexpensive, I thought it was quite tasty. Been going to Arturo's every few weeks for almost 30 years. Used to have huge burritos and the best free chips and Pico de gallo. Went today and the burrito was tiny. Cheese was +$1 sour crème was +$1 and the once free chips were $4.50!!!!. What used to be an affordable lunch that I would take 1/2 the burrito home for dinner, now costs $20+ w/tip, and there's nothing to take home because the burrito is so small!!! Late night mexican is always a good idea. I had the chicken enchilada plate. I did ask if they could do chicken and cheese. They insisted that is what they did but as I cut into each bite there was no cheese inside. I think it would have helped the enchilada from being a bit dry but overall the plate was really good. Nothing caps off a busy day of festival hopping and free Slurpee crawling like a little Mexican. Walking in we were quickly seated, given chips and salsas, and menus. Unfortunately, that was the most attentive service we received while there. We were never offered a refill on our chips and had to hunt down our waitress for water refills (spicy salsa + no water = bad news). Getting our check was another hassle, our server was nice, but elusive, quickly appearing and then vanishing in various corners of the restaurant like she had some sort of mutant teleporting power. After we spotted her in the sea of peach shirted servers it still took her a long time to return with our check. I ordered 2 veggie tacos and a veggie tostada. I didn't realize that neither item comes with cheese until my food arrived, luckily tossing some cheese on my items was an easy fix. I did think the $.55 charge extra for cheese per item was a bit much, 30% of the cost of a taco for a sprinkling of cheese?! If you add cheese, avocado and sour cream your per taco price doubles! The extras aside, the tacos and tostada were quite good, especially when you add the red salsa that comes with the chips; I'd definitely pop in and order them again. Food delivery was scattered. My food came out first with no explanation. Michael G and I stared at it while we waited on his food, which came out 5 minutes later. I think they overlooked his order, but I would've preferred they held mine until they were both ready. When my order came up I spotted our server put back one place setting when bringing my food to the table, even if I wanted to share Michael apparently wasn't allowed to have any silverware - weird. Despite having several drinks, I still have taste buds even though it might be 2am. Late night Mexican joints are a dime a dozen but Arturo's is dishing out awesome Mexican food whether you have been drinking or not. It's always a plus when a Mexican joint has variety on their menu such as chicharron, tripas, and cabeza. It's even better when they keep the authentic taste and don't hold back on the heat. Arturo's hits all of these points which makes them unique. We ordered a lengua taco, tripas taco, and an al pastor torta. Out of the group, the torta stood out. It was well portioned and the bread was perfectly soft and chewy. I would recommend getting a torta with your favorite meat and topping it with their house salsa verde for a kick. read more

They make their pastor scratch and have it spinning in the rotisserie, ready for eager mouths. The chips and pico de gallo is hit or miss in freshness, but I try not to complain about free things. Breakfast is good and reasonably priced. I recommend the huevos rancheros! The salsa they make is awesome and for $6.50, you leave happy and full. My friend took me here for a late dinner because my other friend was craving tacos. I'm not very fond of Mexican food but this was decent. The chips and salsa they served was tasty. The salsa was hot and edible. I ordered 1 Al Pastor taco and 1 Camarones tostada. Given that I was starving, I ate the taco pretty quick, it was a little fatty but it was flavorful. I expected more from the tostada because I love shrimp tacos! But the shrimp tasted like it was those frozen shrimps you buy at the grocery. The ingredients didn't taste fresh at all! The queso fundido was okay, nothing special. And the flan was more of a cake than a creamy custard which I'm accustomed to. Overall, for the price you pay, it wasn't bad.
