We went to ASADA for brunch. I got the Japanese pancake and my partner got the Bulgogi Beef burrito with Kimchee fried rice. Asada has a really interesting menu. Anything like it is really hard to find in the Greenville area. I thought the Japanese pancake was really good but lacked a little acidity. A little pickled more pickled vege on it would add a little texture and acidity that it needed. There was a mayo type sauce on it that kinda muted some of the other flavors. It was very smokey though and I enjoyed it. I recommend splitting the pancake if you get it because it's HUGE. Overall, we enjoyed it and are looking forward to go back to try some of their other unique menu items. The Kimchee fried rice was very spicey in the burrito but that was a good thing. The beef was in big pieces and was difficult to bite the burrito. Overall, there could have been a little more beef in the burrito. read more

Asada is one of the best restaurants in Greenville and *the* best Latin restaurant in town. Their Carne Asada Burrito is a staple in my diet, but today I had the Pescado Tikin-Xic, a Yucatán style Mahi-Mahi dish. I enjoyed it so much that I felt compelled to download Yelp just to write this review. The filet was about 8 oz, seasoned immaculately with a guajillo based abodo style sauce and steamed and served in banana leaf with rice and a sort of salad/salsa of pineapple, habanero and red onion. For $16 I couldn't ask for a better meal. While they're very different restaurants, I frequent Cúrate in Asheville and a few of Asada's features remind me of some dishes I've had at Cúrate, but sold at a lower price point. My first visit was interesting. I had heard so much about this place and had seen the food truck at various events. I had expected table ordering but you order at the counter and then your order is brought to your table. The night we were there they had two excellent Sangrias available and they let us have a sample of each to help us make a selection. The menu is varied with a number of Spanish inspired items. The prices are reasonable. The ingredients are obviously very fresh and the preparation and presentations are unique...not your typical Tex-Mex plates. Seating is a bit dicey because the restaurant is choppy...a small dining area to the right as you enter; another dining area where you view the menu board and order and then another little dining area beyond that. We were able to find a table to accommodate our party of seven in the most remote area and that was wonderful because there was limited traffic while were were enjoying our meal. I was in a mood for arepas and I thought I would give this place a try. It's a local spot, Peruvian/Nicaraguense. Its a small place but it wasn't too busy. The menu looked great and I was really happy to have found such a great and welcoming atmosphere. The price for the arepa (which is pretty big) was reasonable. But the arepa was soggy and uninteresting. The seasoning is VERY heavy, which in mu opinion is very unnecessary. My husband got the churrasco, which usually is always a great call. Also disappointed, the seasoning was so heavy, it almost made the taste of the meat disappear. Perhaps we were unaware that everything is soaked in vinagre? I was just disappointed. They had jarritos and other commonly known sodas and certezas. I had the jamaican water which was pretty great. Overall, a non upscale place with $15+ heavily seasoned dishes. This place is new to me and my family, and we can't get enough of it! They have so many great vegan options. Honestly, this is some of the best food I have ever had in Greenville. They have these really good sweet potato tacos, a mushroom taco (careful if you don't like spice - it's hot!), and this potato ball with pickled vegetables on it. They're incredible! The chips and pico are also the bomb. SO good. Even better, they use compostable packaging when you order take out. We stopped by to try one thing... Chicken Karaage Taco. We read so many reviews that we had to try this place out. The taco is so large you'll need to take the two tortillas and split the meat and toppings into two tacos. If there was a third tortilla you could probably get three tacos out of this. Yummmmmmmm! On my journey through my new temporary home of Greenville, I naturally had to yelp some food. This spot did not disappointment. Highly recommend the churrasco, tropical sangria, black beans and carne asada taco. The churrasco is a little pricey but the taste is amazing! The carne asada taco was delicious, my only complaint is I wish they made it two smaller tacos. There was so much meat(who complains about that?!?) and pico that I couldn't pick it up without everything falling out. When you come in, FYI, you order up front and then sit down. There's not a lot of seating, so having someone grab a table is best. The parking isn't that great as well. There's not really a turn around spot, and if people all ride separate I can see where parking can suck. We got lucky and found someone leaving. They have brunch, didn't try it, but anyone that's had a pupusa before, knows they are bomb so I can't wait to go try them! I don't think I would necessary call this place Mexican food since it has a little from a bunch of different countries, but definitely worth checking out! read more

I'm from Texas so I'm always hesitant to try Mexican food outside of my home state. But Greenville Yelpers gave Asada their approval. So, I set out for lunch with a friend, low expectations in mind. The parking lot of Asada is tiny and by the time I got there, was very full. So, I parked further away in the neighborhood. You might be able to park at businesses nearby but I didn't seem to notice those lots when I drove by. I was glad for the walk post meal though... My friend and I ordered the chicken tacos and fried yucca balls. I also got a chicken tortilla soup. The workers who took our orders were congenial and funny. It felt like a happy family. There are some community tables inside the restaurant and limited seating outside. We got a high table inside the restaurant and our order numbers were called after a few minutes. Yucca balls - lightly fried, perfectly round and stuffed with cheese. They came with a bright golden dipping sauce that I wasn't crazy about. I liked eating them plain. I liked them as a snack but I couldn't finish them because my taco was so HUGE. Chicken taco - incredibly filling! I wasn't sure there was a tortilla under the mound of chicken. I loved how it was seasoned. There was a small bit of pico but I preferred adding the spicy salsa. It was very spicy but so, so good. Ask for guacamole ($1 extra) to temper the heat. Tortilla soup - this was a bit salty but it came piping hot. I think if I hadn't eaten so much spicy salsa, I would have finished this. There was a generous amount of chicken but again, I couldn't finish this because of the taco. I'll definitely be returning the next time I am in Greenville for work. One trip to Asada has cemented it among the finest places to eat I've experienced. I had a chicken burrito which was absolutely scrumptious. The quality of the food reminded me of food in southern California, which is quite a compliment. I also ordered some of their sangria rojo. Normally I barely drink but I would be happy to drink several of these until alcohol poisoning got me. Prices are very reasonable too. The real feather in the cap of this community establishment is the relationship that the owners have with their guests. The whole time I was there, one of the owners was striking up conversations with her regulars. After finishing my meal, I had a lovely conversation with her as well. She offered to make me coffee to help with the sangria (I wasn't going to admit that I was feeling it but I totally was.) It's really obvious the owners care about their community and are passionate about making delicious, affordable food for their guests. I'm so impressed. Let me start by saying I have long been a huge fan of the Greenville taco scene. Willy Taco and White Duck have both battled back and forth for my favorite spot in town. Papi's offers a great, quick option when strolling downtown. With all that said, Asada is, hands down, the best taco in Greenville. And it's not even close. This was my first experience here, and my God will it be the first of many. When I asked how big the tacos were, the employee said, "one will do you plenty." So of course, I got two. Damned if she wasn't right. The first was of the steak variety. Even the double corn tortilla couldn't hold the massive amount of steak on this enormity of a taco. When checking the menu, I noticed they offered a churrasco steak entree with a homemade chimichurri. Naturally, I asked for a side of the chimichurri to throw on the tacos. Not to toot my own horn, but man, what a GREAT move by me! The second taco was the roasted pork. By the time I finished, there was so much meat on the double corn taco that my stomach has expanded to the point where it's getting in the way of me writing this review. The pork was SO tender and flavorful with a apple or peach or pineapple (or combo of all) undertone. Very unique taste. Very good. The accompanying chips with both taco orders were fresh, crisp, and slightly thicker than the usual cantina offering. Two salsa options- a late heat jalapeño, and a milder habanero. Plus a simple and clean pico de Gallo. To drink, I went impulse buy on their homemade hibiscus tea, which is their take on sweet tea. As someone who occasionally eats sugar packets to get my sweet fix, this tea was even too sweet for me and I had to water it down. It did hit the spot to wash down the fantastic tacos and chips. Everything that I had today screams homemade and authentic. I can't wait to come back to try many other menu items that I am sure will tickle my pallet just like everything did today. read more

Attention food patrons of Greenville, DO NOT MISS ASADA! In an unassuming location just outside downtown lies this humble oasis of Nicaraguan and Japanese influence. The location is convenient with parking right out front. The inside is quaint with easy to read menus and pictures of their food for you to drool over, and drool you will! We started with the bolitas de yuca which were absolutely fantastic. We followed those up with a chicken karaage taco which was HUGE and worth EVERY bite. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and the slaw balanced perfectly. We also had a carne asada taco (because how do you not with a place called ASADA!) and that was equally as huge and absolutely fantastic! We also had to try the arepa which, to no surprise, was perfectly balanced and would've been upset had we missed it! For dessert, we wrapped up with 2 guava and cheese empanadas which were PERFECT. I almost gave this place 4 stars, and then I thought to myself, "What the?? Why would you do that? They have killer carnitas tacos, incredible Sangria, and guava y queso empanadas! You'd be an idiot to give this place only 4 stars!" So then I wised up and went with a 5-star review for all the aforementioned reasons. I had several tacos - the fish & the Carnitas - and no question the Carnitas taco was the best I've had in the upstate of South Carolina! The pork is juicy, rich in flavor, and so good you'll take the first bite and look to the heavens to say thank you The tropical sangria was lights out! They use real fruit (who would've thought that'd make a difference!?!) and it has such a sweet, delicious flavor. It was the perfect combo with the savory tacos. And then for dessert, you've got to get those 2 for $5 empanadas! They're stuffed with delicious guava and cream cheese, fried to perfection, and then dusted in sugar... I mean, can Jesus come back now?! Those things were so dang good! So yea - this place is definitely worthy of 5 stars and it's definitely worthy of your next dining out experience! read more

I absolutely love ASADA. I've been to this location three times so far and each experience has been phenomenal. I've tried the carne asada (steak), pollo (chicken), & carnitas (pork). The meats are all good, but my personal favorite is the carne asada. ASADA's carne reminds me of fun times grilling out with friends in Los Angeles. It has that meaty melt-in-your-mouth flavor explosion that you yearn for with your food. Be assured that every bite of your food will be packed with flavor. This is one of those times in life that you'll find an "Mmm" or six Freudian slip away. As far as the burritos go, these are some beastly gordos! Know that you are going to be fed and most likely will be full when you dine at ASADA. Portion size is awesome! Speaking of portions, they have created the largest quesadilla that I have ever seen. I made a comment to my girlfriend that it looked more like a gigantic taco than a quesadilla. This 'dilla seemed like it was created in the traditional way, but seems like it was opened and stuffed with about three times as many toppings as you would expect. For Dessert, make sure that you check out the guava and cream cheese empanadas! They are just divine. There are other empanadas and specials too! The service is very friendly and polite. I've had the opportunity to talk to the head chefs and restaurant owners, Gina & Roberto. They are such a joy! The restaurant itself is decored with paintings created by Roberto! Overall, I would recommend ASADA to anyone looking for a guaranteed and positive dining experience. Before I get to the 2 tacos...I wanna talk about the pico de gallo. Wow. Some of the best I've had including Michelin Star restaurants and mom and pop stands in Chicago. You can taste the freshness. I started with a carnitas taco served on corn tortillas. The meat itself was full of flavor, tender as can be, with some crispy bits too. The sour cream and pico complemented it well. Just when I thought that it couldn't get any better...there was one of the daily specials which was a portobello taco with swiss chard and pumpkin seed pesto. Wow. Wow. Wow. Visited the brick and mortar location in the West Village today and enjoyed a very tasty Carnita Quesadilla. The pork was moist without any fat and cooked perfectly even, with none of those "stringy" bites. It was also seasoned differently than I had tasted before, a very pleasant surprise! My wife enjoyed a fish taco, which she described as fresh and not prepared like "your regular fish taco". And added the pica de gallo was excellent. The owners are quite nice and engaging and you can tell they have a passion about food. The location is inside a bar/nightclub and is clean and well decorated with local art. Very tastefully done.
