The salad bar is absolutely amazing as it is not your typical salad bar (I'll leave the sweet and savory stuff a surprise). The steak and shrimp tacos never miss when I go here. Large in portion and tasty with the asasa steak meat being buttery tender. The poblano pasta makes for an excellent side and a must recommend. The staff and owner make you feel welcome here. I really liked this place, and I would actually probably give them a 4.5 if I could. I am a sucker for ambiance, and this place nails it. The restaurant and bar area are beautiful, with plenty of space inside and out. There was a musician playing on the patio, which conflicted a bit with the inside ambient music, but it still made me want to dance. The service was excellent. I appreciated the huge size of the El Jefe margarita as well. It was delicious and refreshing. My favorite thing about this restaurant is their vegetarian selections. There were four very different dishes on offer, which is about four more than most places. I had the mushroom tacos, which were served with refried beans. They bring you three tacos, which was more than enough for me. Everything was fresh and flavorful - especially the tortillas. In addition, the restaurant offers a salad bar with lots of options - but a truly unique salad bar. I always appreciate a restaurant that doesn't just relegate vegetarians to salads and sides. It is clear that the management at this place really cares about offering quality options to those of us who can't eat meat. Overpriced and not very good options. I thought this place looked great online. Came in on a Sunday. It was lovely on the outside. Not much going on inside. We were seated right away. Ordered two large margaritas. I think those were about $15-$20 each and they were not very good. I know they weren't good because I drink alot and I'd buy another if it was decent but I decided against bankrupting myself for a crap drink. The food choices were pretty lame too! My friend wanted a chimichanga but they can only fry a burrito at lunch time apparently. I ordered $18 shrimp tacos that came with one fucking jumbo shrimp on each tortilla. They could have saved the trouble and just put all three on one tortilla and gave me rice and beans because you have to also decide if you want rice OR beans. You will not be getting both without an up charge. My friend got pork ribs. My other friend got the trio enchiladas which looked sloppy and not artsy at all. My little one got a burger and fries and the guy delivering food said they were all out of ketchup. That was super annoying but the manager came a minute later with ketchup and apologized. We did get a bean dip for free with the salsa and some other nasty dip that resembled a mixture of mayonnaise and green Chile sauce. Personally I HATED the red salsa. It was so goddamn hot I almost had to take a trip to the ER after two bites when in the middle of the night it decided to start a house fire in my lungs. Not their fault, just a personal dislike. Im still recovering. When we were all finished eating our subpar food, the waitress came over to let us know she had conveniently forgotten to tell us about the free salad bar that comes with our meal. One of my friends was really displeased with that. It was the final straw. We don't need to come here ever again. I will say they had live music in the back and it was pretty inside. However it's not a great area, and I feel like what we got was not worth the price. I wish I had seen a full menu before coming In because I was admittedly looking for something a bit more mainstream and price friendly. Our server lied and swindled almost $2000 from us when we hosted my sister's wedding reception dinner there on April 8th. I've sent the general manager 3 emails, I've sent 2 facebook messages (one responded to with a thumbs up), called the restaurant multiple times and sent the assistant manager messages, and we've yet to hear anything back. Our server that night was Angel R. Drian (the assistant manager that was handling the whole event) was told and reiterated that he knew the max amount that was allowed to be spent was $2000. The contract states that with everything, including the tip, the total will be $1826.50. My husband went to pay at the end and asked what is the amount owed because he didn't know the exact price. And because they were right in front of the register, the server didn't give him a bill (i know we should've asked but we didnt expect to get taken advantage of) and explained to him that it went over the budget but they added some discounts to bring it down to $2000 even, tip NOT included. So my husband paid him $2450 because he had done a great job as a server. He then ran it through the system as the EXACT amount that was due (which was NOT $2000. It was $1835.90 which INCLUDED a $309.69 dollar tip) and he didnt offer a receipt. If he had given us either a bill or a receipt, we would've seen that he had lied about the total and the tip. The bride went to the restaurant early the next week to get reprints of the receipts and ask about all the discrepancies. One of which being that we were charged more per item than agreed to in the contract. The bride also said specifically to Drian and the server to not bill us for anything the guests order that is not approved already. On our bill, we have several extra unapproved charges. That night, the groom ordered 40 tequila shots for the toast. He gave the server his card and told him to keep it under $500. At the end of the night, he got a bill for $1871.63 which included a 20% tip that was not explained beforehand either. I told the server to refund the groom and charge me because I knew they couldn't afford that. But i did NOT know the groom gave him a $500 limit and i was honestly quite shocked that he would even consider paying that much...which turns out to be the case...He definitely didn't approve that amount nor was he informed about the mandatory tip. When the bride came to the restaurant to talk to Drian, the server from Saturday night came over and told her that her and her husband were liars and they were lying about giving a $500 limit. They said the groom said there was no limit?!? No one that was there that night EVER would have said no limit. Even if it was some sort of miscommunication, we did not approve 40 top shelf tequila shots totaling the same price as the entire event. So the server, Angel R., didn't listen about the additional charges from guests ordering outside of the menu, didnt follow the contract and rules that were given by the bride about the budget, misunderstood or ignored the groom's $500 limit and charged us for 40 top shelf tequila shots for $35-36 each WITHOUT approval, ran through the transaction for the party as if we had paid him EXACTLY $1835.90 in cash with no change (which is tax fraud), called the bride and her husband liars in front of Drian and he said nothing to stop it. But the worst part of all of it was that Angel lied about the total due (we paid $164.10 more than the actual bill), knowing we were paying cash, and lied about the tip being included. Angel left with $900+ in cash plus the $285 that was charged on the bar bill. That's a total of $1208 that Angel made alone off of us by lying and stealing. I got a hold of Drian last week and he said the the general manager and the owner were going to have a meeting on Monday and he would call me as soon as he found out what the resolution is. I never got a call or a return call when i call the restaurant. I don't understand why no one is trying to resolve this. I am being patient but this is absolutely unacceptable at this point. read more

This is a most excellent Mexican food restaurante. My family ate there two days ago and everyone's food was great! The appetizer was great! What I am trying to say is the food is very good. We went on a fluke because a server from a place nearby we went to that was too noisy recommended it to us. The atmosphere is very nice inside with soft music and a majority hispanic staff adds to the authenticity of the experience. I can't wait to go back and try some of the other menu items. We were very excited to try this place ! We walk in and it's empty , so we assume we will have great service & food. The food was okay. The rice and beans were very good. Although the service was not the best. Our waiter was very inattentive, he didn't once ask if we needed refills. When our food was brought out he said he would bring us limes and never did. I asked for a refill and he took my cup to the back and never brought it back. Mind you were the only ones eating and another family. We came in for lunch on a Wednesday, and when we walked in there was no host so we stood there for about 10 minutes waiting to be sat! After we got to our table we waited an extra 20 minutes before our server even brought us water, we ordered a couple cocktails and proceeded to wait an extra 20 minutes for drinks, the whole time the server did not come back to take our order so we ended up not even ordering anything. Very very poor brunch experience! Insufficient staff and brunch food was lacking in quantity, variety, and freshness. There were actually no egg choice(s) at all in their brunch assembly and just poorly stocked with about half of their options being totally empty for a good while. Although we ended up ordering a la carte, my toddler went with the buffet option just to make sure he got some food in near future so I was monitoring the buffet line/considering it for awhile since ordering drinks/food took over 20 mins after we got sat (drinks alone). Our bartender was sweet and just seemed very busy/not really a server so she did the best she could given the situation. Our drinks (margarita and Paloma) were mediocre; chicken mole sauce was the only good thing we basically tried since the shrimp tacos were very much lacking flavor and made up of two shrimp each (tail-on shrimp to make it worse in a taco). I wish the "lado" bar would've been better but nothing beyond basic salad with ranch, macaroni/potato salad, and unfortunately salty menudo. The best thing there were probably cheese cubes and maybe margarita pie. Really really wanted to love this place and had set my expectations high but they need A LOT of work! Ambiance has good potential but not enough to make me come back anytime soon. I'd steer clear of here for awhile and hope they can get their act together before going out of business especially during these weird times... read more

Asadas is such a gem in our neighborhood. In a part of town that is overcrowded with boring chain restaurants, Asadas stands apart. I've ordered several different dishes, invited different groups of friends, and it's always a hit. Love the cocktail menu as well. One of the things I love most is the outdoor patio. I want to start off by saying the staff was friendly. The music was great! Loved all of the Jose Jose & Luis Miguel covers. There is absolutely NOTHING gourmet about this restaurant. My parents order the Asada Parrillada, the meat was NOT cooked when ordered, it had been reheated multiple times. Typically when one orders fajitas, they come out sizzling - that was not the case, they were stiff and warm all for $84 (2 people dish). I ordered the Shrimp Tacos, the shrimp are battered and deep fried. Second bite into my taco I realized they left the tails on the shrimp! When my waiter asked if everything was okay with my food, I expressed my confusion as to why the tails were left and without warning. Her response was, "yeah, I don't know why they do that". If she knew this ahead of time, it would have been courteous on her part to inform the customer. I had the Vuela Paloma off of their cocktail drink menu and it was mediocre - I can easily pour some squirt & a shot of tequila at home garnished with a lime & Tajín rim. OMG!!! This is, literally, one of the best restaurants in Austin!!! I have been a faithful follower of Casa Chapala for nearly 16 years, but this is that restaurant on steroids, SERIOUSLY! Their chips and salsa...AMAZING, especially the creamy jalapeño salsa. For my first meal at my new favorite consisted of cheese enchiladas with Verde sauce...let me just say...MAGICAL! So excited to have such a lovely dining experience close to home. Outside landscaping and architecture is beautiful. Queso and salsas were awesome as were the chips. Refreshing change of pace, elevated flavor than the norm. The menu items were creative and delicious. Little things like the sauces they've crafted and even just how juicy and delicious the simplest thing like chicken is. I got the pumpkin sauce enchiladas. The margs are real drinks. Balanced and not all puckering and heart-burny like you may be accustomed to. Service was attentive and kind. I wish the inside aesthetic was quite as beautiful as outside, but it's close. It's mostly the furniture that takes it down a notch from the finer dining that it could be. We could not be more delighted to have them in town and hope to hit up that outdoor bar soon! read more

I took my sister here today to celebrate her birthday and we were outside. Our waitress greeted us but didn't introduce herself she was kind stand offish.She gave my sister a weird look when she ordered her alcoholic beverage. After we ordered our food she didn't come and check up on us as we were eating out appetizer But as soon other ppl came and sat out in the patio she was being very attentive and holding a conversation etc. when our food came we noticed we weren't given eating utensils like the others around us so when our waitress finally came by my sister asked her if we could have some forks and she rolled her eyes while sighing just had an attitude and handed us the eating utensils like it was a chore. When she handed a couple who was seated at a table close to us the waitress was very attentive and kind to them when she was handing them their food and it was the same for another group behind where I was sitting. We were the only black ppl there and we were treated poorly compared to the people around us. I am really upset about this because I was so excited to take my sister here and we ended up having a bad experience. I really wanted to like this place! I heard about their happy hour and was excited to check it out. We ordered two Mexican Martini's and their Queso. We got the Queso first and we had it mostly finished by the time we got out martinis. When we got the martinis they were not very cold, almost room temp, but the flavor was good. We ordered the Nachos with steak and the Chile Relleno Torta. This is where the disappointment came in, the nachos were in a can and served by the waiter. This would have been fine, but they were cold and soggy. They definitely tasted like they had been sitting for a bit. The Torta was also disappointing. The Chile relleno was described on the menu as deep fried and filled with cheese. If there was cheese, we couldn't find it. The rest of the sandwich was bland. It had a black bean spread with tomato, onion and lettuce. After we finished out Mexican Martinis we got the House Margarita on the rocks. This was the worst part of the meal. I tasted it and immediately thought it tastes watered down but I didn't say anything to my husband because I thought it might be just mine. When he tasted his he said the exact same thing and added that it tasted like water. All in all our tab came out to $60 during happy hour before tip (queso, nachos and drinks were on happy hour) and we left very disappointed. read more
