Okay Friends! Let's talk about Asadero in Ballard! If you're looking for delicious steak come to Asadero! It's truly fantastic. They are known for their steak but it has a Mexican fusion atmosphere/menu. Immediately when you sit down, they bring you water and then followed by the water is fruit fry with limes, cucumber, oranges, lemon what ever you want to put in your water. I then, immediately order the regular margarita and we start with the corn, cheese and poblano pepper appetizer dip which comes with delicious sourdough bread. It's excellent! If I'm really hungry I will also order the bone marrow. It melts in your mouth. For the steaks they are all delicious but we tend to order the Zapiton steak. It is enough for two, but if you want left overs you can order two steaks. We also get the loaded potato (no bacon) and a side of the season veggies (broccolini). The steak is paired with a delicious chimichurri and red salsa and on the side their is also 4 different salsas to chose from. This place gets better and better which each visit. A group of six came here for the first time for a birthday celebration dinner. We had heard great things, but we're unsure what to expect. We were seated outside in a heated and covered area in front of the restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised by the excellent service. In addition, you get to select your preferred fruit and herbs for your water. We started with the guacamole, which was rich and creamy, and the salsa selection with corn tostadas. We brought wine with us like we usually do, and we're happy our server suggested to open both to let them breathe before consuming. This is the best part. The steaks, which are high grade and prepared to perfection per customer request, are incredibly reasonably priced. I would dare to say there are few establishments that provide the quality for the price. It is definitely a special occasion location and saw others celebrating special events. read more

I had such a lovely time a Asadero! The food was incredible and the service was wonderful. Started off with the guacamole as an appetizer. It was nothing too special, just your typical guac but seasoned well and had a good taste. It came with tostadas and buttered bread (which I thought was interesting. The bread was a nice difference though). Our server noticed that we ate all of the tostadas and brought us some more! For our steak we got the Chuleta de Ribeye. It was a good size to share between two people. Asked for it to be cooked rare because it would be coming out on a hot stone plate and might cook a little bit more. It was cooked perfectly. Tasted amazing! It also came with salt, chimichurri, and another sauce - all paired perfectly well with the steak. They also provided some tortillas and 4 different salsas to make tacos, which was amazing in a whole different way of consuming the steak. We also got the Papa Loca (loaded potato). I seriously underestimated how large the potato would be. It is definitely enough to feed 2-3 people along with the steak! It was loaded with all of the toppings and so cheesy. So delicious. You're paying for the ambience and the steak quality...flavor though? Meh. The small, cozy restaurant had a cool ambience. Dimly lit, Mexican, classy steakhouse vibe. Service was great. We ordered the wagyu tacos (cooked medium and medium-well), queso dip, baked potato, flan trio, and a margarita. The Papa Josper aka baked potato had all the fixings (cheese, sour cream, bacon bits, chives) and tasted great, which is expected for a baked potato with all the fixings. The wagyu was absolutely tender, but didn't really have any flavor. I think maybe we were supposed to enhance it with the 5 salsas they brought out in these cute flute-type containers, but the steak strips were wrapped in small corn tortillas and came with plain out-of-a-can-looking beans and chimichurri sauce. I can appreciate the fact that the wagyu alone brings up the price and 'quality' of the dish, but I hate to say it--you can get so much more food and flavors at a standard Mexican restaurant. Margarita was ok. The flan trio was bland. The only one you could kinda taste was the hazelnut one, but the other two were corn-based and regular flan (I forget if it was a particular flavor), and you could barely taste a difference, let alone any flavor. read more

Had an absolutely lovely time at Asadero this Monday! We were promptly seated as per our reservation. We were then presented with a selection of citrus and additions we could customize our water with. Great touch and way to set the tone of the meal. We ordered the guacamole to start and then 3 main dishes and a baked potato to share for 4. The guacamole was good! Straightforward, well seasoned. No complaints. It came with bread and crackers. I think it also came with an array of salsas. Unsure whether that accompanied the guac or the meal. But we needed the salsa to finish the bread/crackers. Guac was fully consumed since we came hungry. The steaks arrived next. Our server answered all our questions before and after serving about our steaks. We ordered the Vasio medium and the El Zabuton medium rare. We took it off the sizzle plate once they came to stop the cooking. The Vasio was our favorite steak of the night. We needed to add salt but were provided rock salt so it was a bit tricky. Salsas provided were great in enhancing and complimenting the flavor of the meat. The baked potato was a bit of a let down for me since I got to it mid-steak and the cheese had congealed. It didn't enhance my experience much. The Carne Asada was okay! There were tortillas provided that seemed handmade. Great light texture. The meat was decent but since it was so thin, it's at risk of getting a bit tough. There was a lot of meat on that plate too, good portion but compared to the steaks, this was not the star of the night. If you get this one as your only main, it's a good pick. All in all, loved the service, ambience and food. We sat for a while as we picked off the remaining bites of food and never felt rushed by service. This place was well worth the 30 min wait! The best meal I have had in about a year. We sat at the bar (just two of us) because we were able to get seated sooner. The bartender Maria was amazing, she is great advice about ordering and made us tasty cocktails. I ordered the Playa de Guayaba, it was creamy and well balanced (definitely on the sweeter side but not overly sweet). We ordered the Toritos, Prime Carne con Chili and Tacos del Patron. Didn't quite realize how long it would take to get to on the city bus from downtown Seattle, but I can assure you it was well worth it!! This was my first time at the Ballard location, since I live in Kent and they have a Kent location as well. They did not disappoint. The dining area is open concept so it can be a little noisy. I had family in from Idaho and they left significantly impressed. The service was quick and attentive, the food was not as quick to come out but it was 4:30 on a Friday so it was fairly busy at the time and we were not complaining. I love the Viccaro (sp?) Waygu 14 oz steak that comes out on the hot stone still sizzling. My neice chose the King Salmon, which she thought was the best she ever had and nephew copied me with the 14 oz and he was equally impressed. Love the food here! read more

The restaurant is cramped, you WILL go home smelling of meat/smoke, and even if you have a reservation you may be waiting for a while for that table... however: the steak alone is well worth these inconveniences. The quality of the meats are at the level of Argentine-style steakhouses in CDMX (Cambalache leaps to mind), but at a fraction of the price. Highly recommend the Vacio cut - wow. Tender, perfectly prepared, well seasoned. 12-13 oz, $40 = a total steal. We over-ordered (queso, guacamole, the loaded baked potato, the cauliflower...). Next time we will put our focus entirely on the meat, which is the real star of the menu anyway. Service was excellent once we got seated. We'll definitely be back. read more

A cute restaurant along Ballard with dim lighting & relatively cozy seating. Perfect for date night or a catch-up with the girls (food portions are generous and definitely shareable). Parking is a bit difficult to find during evening hours (even on a weekday) so no harm in coming early. We ordered: Papa Loca - This potato was like the size of a grown man's shoe. Barely could make a dent by the end of the evening. It was unbelievably huge with generous amounts of toppings and wagyu meat. American Cross Wagyu (Vacio) & Australian Wagyu (Ribeye) - Both steaks were perfect. I'm still having a difficult time deciding which one I loved more. They're served on a hot stone so you're able to cook to your liking. The oil and juices WILL splatter so due be wary of where you place your belongings. Besides having our clothes be smothered in the musk of steak (as expected), we had a wonderful time. Servers are attentive and very friendly. A little underwhelmed by the experience. We ordered 4 things to share. Server brought out a set of 4 salsas but I don't think these really helped enhance the food. 1. Steakhouse Burger: Poorly prepared. The giant piece of lettuce sticking out both sides of the bun. The bun was unevenly cut with the bottom being paper thin so it was already soggy even though it was eaten immediately. The meat was good but patty was uneven in thickness. For $21....it didn't even come with fries. No option to order fries either. 2. Queso: AVOID. The cheese was stringy and starts hardening immediately and crisping on the bottom. This was very unpleasant in texture and so stringy. It is not a dippable texture. The tostados were meh. Glad there were tortillas to make a quesadilla with them. 3. Giant potato: Potato itself was very soft and baked through. This is also stuffed with queso so I would suggest getting this and not the queso. 4. Carne asada: Chorizo was so dry and overcooked. The steak was good but too fatty. I had to cut away big pieces of fat and had a little mound of fat the end of the meal. The meat didn't need the salsa and was good on its own. Asadero was truly a unique steakhouse experience! We came here on Sunday evening with a reservation we had made earlier that day. The place looked busy so I would recommend making a reservation. This place would make a great spot for date night or group hangout. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and we tried the zabuton on his recommendation - which was our favorite! He bought us garnishes with our water, which was a nice touch. Everything on the menu sounded interesting - we ordered the broccolini, baked potatoes, ribeye tacos and zabuton. The ribeye steak tacos were flavorful but were a little messy to eat and fell apart while eating. The veggies were well seasoned and complimented the steak. The steak is cooked a little under and finished table side on a marble slab, so you can cook it to the temperature you like. It was juicy and had good marbling. We finished our dinner with the flan trio, which was the right amount of sweet. P.S. I had a reservation at 7pm on Valentine's Day, and it took a few minutes to be seated. The restaurant is very dark and loud with upbeat music. The service was good and attentive. There was a Valentine's Day menu, but we opted to order from the regular menu instead. We ordered the guacamole casero, el zabuton, and la carne asada. All orders came faster than we expected. Guacamole casero: the guacamole itself is so good!! The crostini was warm and yummy. The tostadas were stale and hard to eat. Without the tostadas, this appetizer is solid 5/5. El zabuton: this tasted okay. Make sure to take the meat off the sizzling plate after you're served and sizzle/cook it to your liking after. La carne asada: I also thought this was okay, but my partner loved it. There was complimentary salsa and the pickled onions were good! A little sour but I enjoyed it. Portions were good and we came home with leftovers. My partner loved his dish and wants to come back soon! I will try a different entree next time. read more

And sharing a community table with strangers, nice ones, because they try to cram as many people as possible into that location. But, we went to this one and it was wonderful. Asadero is one of my favorite steakhouses in Seattle! Everything is cooked fresh and it comes on a big hot plate with salt. Delicious and excellent quality, my personal favorite is the zabuton. They always cook it perfectly to your request. I also enjoy the potato when I come with a group of people mainly because it's massive. The space inside is super cozy and they also have outdoor seating. I always enjoy out of towners here and everyone loves it too. It gets generally pretty busy so a reservation is highly recommended especially on Fridays/weekend. There is something for everyone at different price points. We made our reservations about a week before going. I highly recommend it. We saw lots of people hoovering outside. The inside is a darken deco. They brought us a mini lamp to see anything. We could have used two of those. The service was friendly and swift. We were seated quickly, orders were taken, food arrived in a timely manner, and we didn't linger given the waiting crowd. We needed to take a walk anyway after such a heavy meal. The Food: Rajitas Poblanas, $14.99 - 4 Stars Menu: Fire roasted poblano peppers with corn and cream sauce The dish is exactly as described, plus it is also served with six little pieces of bread. The sauce is creamier than I expected, not necessarily bad, just that I have a limited tolerance for diary. In retrospect, we didn't need this starter at all. The main courses were heavy, and we took half of this home. Pescado Tacos, $20.99 - 4 Stars Menu: 3 Seasoned, grilled rockfish tacos with melted asadero cheese, red cabbage slaw, and house-made crema I think this dish will be excellent for somebody. For me, it was a bit too much cheese and too much crema. Don't get me wrong; I ate them all. LOL. The diary was too heavy for me. If you are diary limited, I suggest asking for crema on the side, and then use the provided salsa instead. That would have been much more amazing - for me. Chuleta de Ribeye, $43.99 - 5 Stars Menu: 18oz Bone-in luxury barley fed Australian Angus ribeye (MS 5+) We asked our waitperson for recommendations, and she suggested the much more expensive Australian wagyu options, emphasizing the "full blood" aspects of the steak. We honestly don't know what that can entail. (It's Halloween, and I'm thinking vampires...) We enjoy wagyu in small bites due to the high fat content; it tastes too greasy for an entire steak. So, he chose this "normal" ribeye according to her. Honestly, it was awesome. Perfectly grilled, just the right balance of flavor, simply seasoned. Thumbs up. Papa Josper, $12.99 - 4 Stars Menu: Baked and seasoned potato with cream cheese, melted asadero cheese & topped with smoked bacon, Mexican crema and green onion These potatoes are so large, it comes with its own steak knife! A huge blob of cheese sits on the top. This easily serves two people, but hubby polished it off himself. Yes, we took a very long walk afterwards! Bravo to the salsa, pico de gallo, and onion set for the table. I especially liked the spicy green sauce. It has guacamole, pico de gallo, pickled red onions, green salsa with Chile de arbol, avocado crema, tostadas, and crostini. This was such a great combo, so good! I have been skeptical about steakhoues in the past, but Asadero has really impressed me! I've been twice in the past month for birthday dinners and I have ordered different things each time. Love the staff and the ambiance, the waiters are so attentive and willing to give their opinions on every item. It's also so cool that they have a platter of fruits for waters just from the start. Here are my opinions on the food items I've tried: - Vacio steak: 5/5, this was really great. The sizzling rock it's served on is awesome. - Carne Asada: 4/5, this was pretty good but I was disappointed with the amount of steak. It was cool that it came with nopal, chorizo, and pepper, so you could make a variety of bites with it. - El Zabuton: 5/5, this was awesome! I again liked the sizzling rock so we could cook each slice further if we wanted to. - Vacio tacos: 5/5, yummmm. Less work than a whole steak but still a good amount of meat and flexibility to add whatever into the tacos! I would recommend eating these fast, they aren't served on the hot rock, so they go cold quickly. - Queso Fundido: 5/5, especially with the Vacio tacos or with a piece of steak. I actually was not a fan of the crispy torta and preferred it with the tortilla or just by itself. I loved how the bottom was crispy! - Papa Josper: 3/5, was delicious on the first bite and then it got to be too much. This place is pretty busy, even on weekday nights, so you really should make a reservation. We both had the Filet Mignon Flight which had Japanese, Australian, and American steak on this steaming hot stone board when our food came. The presentation was great! Best place to get steak in Seattle in my opinion. You walk in, and the smell just starts making you drool. I love the service! The server greets you with accouterments for your water - mint, lemon, cucumber, orange. The steaks are so flavorful - some of them keeps cooking on a sizzling rock so you can control the cook on the meat. I've gotten the Zabuton both times I've been. You can eat it by itself with rock salt or make some tacos with salsa, guacamole sauce, picked onions and pico de gallo. Steaks were very tender, full of flavor, right amount of fat.
