Ate at Asakusa for lunch. A delight. Service was fast and the hostess friendly in recommending sushi rolls to match our tastes. The restaurant is small, but cozy and warm. This place is the best you can find, we eat here at least 4 times a month. Both lunch and dinner are great. Like the other reviews say make sure to get there right when they open. Lunch gets super busy right away and after like 6pm dinner gets busy. We haven't had anything from here that we have not loved, when we try other sushi places and japanese cuisines it is always compared to Asakusa. We love their hot tea, house salad, clear soup, lunch box, teriyaki steak, tempura shrimp/vegetables, rice just everything.. Eat here if you want a great meal. Asakusa is my absolute favorite place to go for sushi! I love the tempura roll and also enjoy the spicy salmon roll. Before becoming a vegetarian, I used to get the teriyaki chicken which is hands down the best I've ever had. The restaurant is always quiet with nice music in the background. The service is always great, with the servers being very attentive and polite. I have never had a bad experience here. At the Jefferson location, they have happy hour from 2:30-4 on weekdays which makes the rolls 1-2.50$ cheaper which I enjoy. I can't wait to go back for more! read more

Don't let the underwhelming exterior fool you; this place is amazing. The interior was such a shockingly positive contrast we were taken aback. A beautiful sushi bar, intimate tables tucked away, and a welcoming, relaxing atmosphere, and we knew we had made our dinner decision well. This place isn't as good as it used to be back in the day. I came here recently and got my usual order of sushi. Note, that I haven't been in years just cause I kind of forgot about this place since they're better sushi joints here in Fort Wayne. When I got my sushi, it was improperly rolled. It look sloppy and soggy and the presentation was mediocre. Like many chefs say, we eat with our eyes first and my eyes did not like what I saw. I thought that perhaps it wold taste better than it looked but boy was I wrong. I got a spicy tuna roll and the tuna was absolutely flavorless. No spice whatsoever. The seaweed was very soggy, it was like chewing on plastic. Then I got the philly roll and the cream cheese ratio to everything else was really off. I'm not usually picky with my sushi but this really made me sad. This place was really good back in the day and I don't know what happened. Perhaps it was a change in management or something. Hopefully something changes and they can make room for improvements. read more

Asakusa is a great choice for sushi in the Fort Wayne area. They have lots of options and non sushi options. I recommend the golden roll. The service is always excellent sometimes you may have to wait for a table at certain points but it's never too bad. read more

Asakusa deserves 5 stars for many reasons. If you are in the mood for sushi, you can't go wrong here. The fish tastes fresh, the rice is perfectly sticky, and is presented with finess. Additionally, their soup and salad is a nice compliment to a sushi main course. My favorite roll is the Hawaiian roll with shrimp, Avacodo, and pineapple. So good!! If you are craving something cooked, their terayaki chicken does not disappoint. Lastly, the ambiance is relaxing with low lighting and music. One of the greatest sushi places I've been to. They are very consistent in the quality of sushi and sashimi they serve. The must haves are: the Golden Roll and the Crazy maki (which has salmon, tuna, and yellow tail in it). Love going here for lunch or dinner, the teriyaki chicken is fantastic as well. Good sushi in Indiana? Kind of hard to believe, I know. But its possible if you visit Asakusa. Being from L.A. and being well traveled, I have a bit of a snoody pallet, especially when it comes to raw fish. But I was very pleased with not only the quality of fish (sushi) but with the creativity (rolls) this place has. My only complaint? They don't serve vegetable tempura as an appetizer. They should definitely rethink that one. We plan to go back to Asakusa whenever we have a craving for quality, scrumptious fishy eats! read more

Big fan of this place, the sushi always seems fresh. Expectations are low in Indiana, but I think it compares well to places I have eaten on both coasts. Busy busy busy on weekend nights, but worth the wait. They could use a bigger lobby and more parking. Can't really speak to the non-sushi dishes personally. read more

Everyone loves this place and it gets really crowded bc its small so go a bit early. I use to order the teriyaki steak and salmon. Yum! They have good fried rice even though its japanese, they have a certain asian blend. Their rolls are really good too and served on a boat if you order big. read more

Stopped at Asakusa during a recent 1 night visit to Fort Wayne. I was a little worried about Sushi in Ft Wayne but reviews looked good. When I arrived I noticed a huge 'grand opening" sign on a large Japanese resturant next door. Their parking lot was empty and I made up my mind to go here. When I walked in I was greeted right away, It was very dark inside thats mekes me wonder what are you hiding. They where very slow maybe 4-5 tables at 6:00pm. I opted to sit at Sushi bar. Waiter was there as I sat down, Great time to order a large Saki. He was very attentive Overall service was great! Now, they have an interesting menu with rolls that you dont usually see, and are missing some that you do. I asked the Waiter about a few, (Mexican Roll?) he suggested the Dragon roll I ordered one and a few pieces of sushi. I was then surprised That it came with soup and salad! Soup was a little salty but the price was right, salad as expected. Dragon roll excellent. Sushi... well, good, not great but it is Indiana. All in all I would go back the experiance was better than average and the food was good. read more

This place has seen its better day. When we first moved here 10 years ago the service was much more friendly, the size of the sushi pieces where larger and cut more attractive. Our last 3 dining experiences have been very disappointing. We will not be returning and will be spending our funds at other dining establishment where we are appreciated and presented with a quality tasty product. This place is where my love affair of Sushi began. Not long after I started going here I took my wife (my girlfriend at the time) whom had never had sushi. To say the least she was reluctant but after a little coaxing she tried it and loved it. The sushi here is always as fresh as it can be. The service is always top notch and when you sit at the bar you can interact with the chefs. My wife and I went here while on vacation and hoped for the best because things can change over the years. To our relief nothing seems to have changed and it is still superior to ANY sushi restaurant we have visited. For a very long time, after we moved to Arizona, my wife wouldn't even eat sushi because she said no restaurant could stand up to her expectations when compared to Asakusa. To say the least we overindulged a little. 3 different rolls, 4 different a la carte choices, soup, sake and an appetizer was just over $60. Considering what we ate, not to bad. Things I loved first the service was amazing!! The gentleman serving us went above and beyond.. I have a avocado allergy that is severe he made sure I was able to sample the sushi which I have never tried and anyone who likes sushi knows it all comes with avocado.. Next the food the tuna sushi was yummy I had the clear soup also great. My dinner was teriyaki chicken with rice and mushrooms was amazing also my dinner came with broccoli and carrots. Don't skip the fresh crispy salad with a flavorful house dressing, a sad and disappointing attempt at copying this salad can found at Koto, but it's terrible. The sushi is good but not the best I have had. The special rolls were bigger than expected not a horrible thing just hard to grab with chopsticks. Our main criticism of this restaurant was that I'm fairly certain my family got a stomach bug from the food and/or dishware (we didn't eat out anywhere else that weekend). We've eaten at a lot of Japanese restaurants and this was the first time we ever got badly sick afterwards. The sashimi was OK, fairly typical for Japanese restaurants we've visited in the Midwest. The teriyaki chicken, though, was dry and even burnt black in places. The service was overall OK as well, but when we (a party of five) asked for a larger table because we needed space for baby and kids, the first server said she would find one for us, but then a second server said no, those were reserved for groups of six or more--which meant that we got a table for 4 and I ended up on the end, sticking out into the walking area between tables; I understand it was a busy time but some flexibility would have been helpful for us. read more

I frequently go to Asakusa. The food and service are consistently good. I have tried ALOT of sushi from around the country and feel like Fort Wayne is lucky to have such a great sushi restaurant. Our favorite rolls are the Aloha, Golden and Alamo. My two kids (ages 6 and 3) love the Miso soup and can put away a serious amount of sushi. Asakusa is very busy on the weekends, so plan on waiting for a table. It is worth the wait. read more

Stopped here from out of town while in Ft. Wayne on business. We almost drove right by! It's in a strip mall, but when you walk in the restaurant it's surprisingly nice and pretty inside! The miso soup and house salad were good. The rolls were good, too, and really reasonably priced. The california rolls were some of the better ones I've ever had. We got two soups, salads, three rolls, and two glasses of plum wine for a little over $30. Not bad. Service was good--they were very attentive and friendly. The only "complaint" is that the waitress brought my boyfriend a house salad when he asked for a seaweed salad. Not a big deal, the regular salad was good--we didn't say anything and he just ate the one they brought. read more
