Went for a weekday lunch and had to wait about 20 mins, but that is a good sign that the place is worth it. The lunch bento us a real deal. Wish they had an option for a sushi bento combo. They do have sushi specials at lunch but the selections were a little mundane. The crunchies in my clear soup were instantly soggy but everyone liked the miso. Service was friendly. Funny and attentive too. Would definitely go back to try more fancy dishes at dinner. read more

Food is always fantastic here. The wait time varies each visit. Sometimes we had to wait longer. Sometimes it's quick.

This is by far my favorite place for sushi in Fort Wayne. The price is good and you get quite a bit of food. You cannot make reservations but they do have take out. We usually wait about 15 minutes for a table. The service is efficient and your never stuck too long at all waiting for your food once your at a table. Very disappointed. My daughter was treating herself to her favorite rolls as she recently had twins. Drove to pick up carry out brought the food back to our home and the avocados were very brown. We called and spoke with the manager who explained that all food is inspected and that it would not have gone out with bad avocados. So to resolve this my daughter has to drive the half hour trip back to the restaurant to prove the brown avocados and get them replaced. Through all this the manager never apologized or offered any concessions. And to beat all, after driving the hour round trip the second time they still did not give her the food for free. Probably used $10 in gas just to make two trips and get bad excuses for bad avocados. read more

Wow, excellent dinner during happy hour. We tried this restaurant while passing through Fort Wayne and used Yelp reviews to make the decision. Kenny was our waiter and very patient in explaining the many and varied options. I had the Tai Sushi and Salmon California and my husband had the Tokyo. Both were delicious and very large portions. We also had a very tasty clear soup to begin the meal. The entire bill including tax came to $23.00. We will definitely stop here again. read more

The sushi was decent, but a Sapporo was $9.49. The ambiance seemed a bit cloistered. The service was very good and friendly.

Very very good. The hibachi menu was a nice surprise and reasonably priced. We had the filet mignon cooked med rare (they do it med well unless you specify differently). Japanese pickles are a good starter. Staff was great, very attentive and clearly everyone cares that their guests have an enjoyable experience. read more

Ive had sushi in a lot of different cities. I'm far from a sushi snob. However, the sushi here was less than avg and did not seem fresh. I guess the big warning sign was when I asked about the MP for Toro, and the waiter replied... "What is Toro" . Really? The uni tasted like it was not fresh, the rolls had very little fish. Pssst...A word of advise, a spicy tuna roll is not about smashing and pulverizing the ahi and then proceeding to drown it in copious amounts of sirachi mayo. No, the ahi should be cubed to a size allowing it to hold its texture/shape and then delicately tossed in a minimal amount of the mayo. Oddly, Ive heard people rave about this place. We usually go to Koto or Sapparro's for sushi and several of our friends told us we needed to try Asakusa. We were extremely disappointed. Our chicken in our chicken teriyaki had the texture of reheated microwaved chicken. The sushi was marginal at best with not near as many options as you would expect from a sushi bar. They do not offer fried rice and three pieces of broccoli and four small chunks of carrots made up the vegetables that came with our chicken teriyaki. We had three different sushi rolls and of course the chicken teriyaki that I already mentioned. Every single dish was a disappointment. Anyone who recommends this place has never eaten at Sapparro's or Koto. We will never step foot in here again. The waitress was very nice and the atmosphere is clean and private. read more

For sushi it is sub par. Rolls were sloppy and odd shaped. They use a lot of filler items, lettuce, cucumber, just seemed off. My husband had the hibachi the first time and said it was flavorless. We have tried it twice, both locations. Sakura & Sapparos (hate the atmosphere & all the kids crying & running around.) are much better. As good as sushi gets in the Midwest and beyond. Better than some I've tried in Indianapolis even. Their rolls are great and so are their bento boxes and lunch plates. I don't care very much for the tempura but that is just a taste thing as I have not liked it at other places either. Both their soup and salad are a great accompaniment to their meals. read more

Asakusa has been in Fort Wayne for many years and has always been a crowd favorite. We eat here once a month. The luncheon bento boxes are a great value. The fish is consistently fresh and many varieties are available. We love the tempura. It is always light, crispy, and plentiful, with an authentic sauce with daikon radish grated in. The chicken and beef teriyaki have a flavorful sauce and are always tender. The udon broth is good but not great, but our kids love the noodles. We also like the grilled calamari appetizer and the agedashi tofu appetizer, and the raw tuna salad. The waitstaff is courteous and attentive. We've been coming here for about 11 years---every since our kids were toddlers. They've had their share of messes on the table and on the floor, but the restaurant is always forgiving and we always tip well in return. The owners are very cordial even when it's crazy busy. Whoa you negative nellies!! I travel all across the country and do consider myself a "sushi snob". I have been eating sushi long before Sushi became popular. I've eaten it in many cities, tried many different types of sushi and always end up comparing the sushi I eat to Asakusa. Sure there are other restaurants that are just as good or better but this place is amazing. I have never had bad sushi here....EVER!! Poor customer service. We were celebrating a birthday and ordered a variety of sushi and sashimi as well as entrees to share. The udon noodles were prepared poorly and the dish had very little flavor. The rest of the meal was very good. We had what seemed to be a new server, by the time he came back to the table everything was almost done and no dishes were cleared throughout the meal or drinks refilled, at that time I told him about the dish and he only said oh ok, he offered a new dish but again the meal was almost over. He did not get the manager or anything else. Then the check came with the poor dish still listed on it. I asked for the manager. She was the poor customer service. She stated that since nothing was actually wrong I just didn't like their style I still had to pay for it. Then told me I should have spoken up earlier. When she stopped by right after the dishes were placed, I put a hand up because my mouth was full but she walked away before I could say anything. I don't expect perfect, and I did tell her we enjoyed the rest. But the way she spoke to me in front of my family and in a public place where I was paying for an experience was upsetting and embarrassing. She interrupted me and tried to make it my fault, as if one poorly prepared dish could be my fault anyway. I felt like she was only worried about not having to adjust for an execution error and didn't care that what was a very small issue turned into an experience that now I want to make sure others are aware will be awaiting them if they risk spending their money here. We did tip the waiter on the full cost as even though he seemed inexperienced he was nice and did seem to be trying and the rest of the dishes were fine. Not exceptional, but pretty good. read more

I have been to Asakusa many times over the years (2-3 times a week both for dinner and lunch), just found out the house clear soup contains lots of MSG, got really thirsty after the soup ( find the brand they use and I try to buy some at the Korean store at coldwater crossing... and I read the box about the MSG contents..wow) The sushi is tasty and pricey , rolls are a bit more affordable, Over the years I over heard a few customers ( complaining to the manager ) that they found cockroaches , and other one saw them crawling around the long sushi bar table, manager gave them discounts. It's hard to believe because the place looks pretty clean... I was thinking perhaps people were trying to get a free meal... then one day I got a BABY COCKROACH in my ice water!! YUCK! I'm lucky I didn't get sick, but the sight of it was just sick! I guess restaurants (especially restaurants that have been around for years) do get cockroaches unless they try real real hard to keep clean. It's not an open kitchen so I don't how how's the inside.... Well may be that's why they set their lights quite dim so you can't see things running around... Cockroaches only come out at night so if you see some during their business hours then it's pretty bad.... The chiefs are not really Japanese, they hired lots of Hispanics to make sushi... I hope they wash their hands after they use the bathroom because I think they are supposed to wear gloves while making sushi but they make it with bare hands and they talk to each other (or to the customers) while making it..... While I'm not a fan of sushi, my daughter is. I took her for birthday lunch and was thrilled with both the food and the service. The waitstaff is friendly, knowledgeable and patient. I didn't feel at all uncomfortable asking for guidance or recommendations. My daughter has a new favorite restaurant and we'll definately be back.
