Owner and staff are very friendly, and bike was assembled perfectly, all bearings and brackets set perfectly, (except for not wrapping the handle bars as I requested). The 1st thing you'd notice as you drive down Garvey Ave looking for this place is that the sign is missing a name. In fact, there isn't a sign at all over the small shop but 2 words painted on the side of the stucco building that reads, "bike shop." Not Bi Bike Shop or its previous name of Pepe's Bike Shop, just the unassuming "bike shop." What did Steve Jobs say about simplicity? Yes, that it's the ultimate sophistication. The owner must be an Apple fan. The inside of the shop is, well, lived in. Yes, I'll stick with that term. The carpeting, racks, display cases, etc, have seen better days. There are used bikes on racks, leaning against walls, hung on the ceiling, etc (more focus on etc.). Okay, I don't mind how the place looks. I mean, if you've gone into any of the mom & pop Chinese restaurants along Garvey Ave., Valley Blvd, Atlantic Blvd....you'd know what I mean. Generally, the Chinese don't really care about decor. It's all about practical applications. Just as long as the price is right and the goods/services are reasonably good then it's all good. And that's exactly what you'd find at Bi Bike Shop. it's a no nonsense shop. It's simple. It's functional. It's no frills cheap. And that's why I like this shop.

After my friends attempted to help me switch into bike pedals and having a little trouble completing the job, I decided I needed some professional help. Luckily they were open on a Saturday afternoon, so I swung by and was able to talk with Ron who took a look at my bike. I can definitely tell that Ron and his other employee definitely knew what they were doing. He not only helped me switch out my clip-on to a pedal, but he took a look and helped me fine tune the bike so that it would be rideable! I was losing air in the front tire, the gears were "locked" and some other issues. He was able to fine tune everything and even gave me pointers on how to start/stop the bike when riding haha. Thank you Ron and your team for helping me sort out my bike issue. I was able to ride it the next day without problem. Definitely come out to support a local shop, you won't be disappointed!

Another time, my old off-brand road bike needed the gears readjusted/calibrated/fixed/whatever you call it when you think you're in gear number X, but the chain and sprockets tells you otherwise. I dropped it off not knowing what kind of repair it would end up needing, because the shop was busy at the time. Couple hours later, they called me to say it was done. They even moved my switched my brake handles with the gear handles, because I'd mounted it out of order on the handlebar! Now the bike rides like a completely different bike, and feels "fast," even! Again, I got all 3: fast, cheap, AND good! Highly recommend this local bike shop if you need some fixes or maintenance done.

They said the middle gear on the front crank was a bit troublesome and to go back if I was having issues. I my bike for a quick test ride at a nearby park and the it wouldn't shift into the high gear (largest crank) on the front. I took it back and they trouble shooted some more and got it back working on all gear. They said the front derailleur spring is probably worn out. Most likely as the bike is from 1992. I will go back to them to install a new front derailleur if needed.

They said they called but they never left a voicemail. Now my daughter took the bike to UCSB and the brakes were super squeaky and as she was taking it to the campus bike shop, the chain came off the track. That never happened before!!!! EVER!!!! Whatever this bike shop did has rendered the bike useless for my daughter at UCSB over 100 miles away. We now have to pay to get the bike looked at and repaired in Santa Barbara.
