I drove all the way to Covina because I liked this place, but this time I was disappointed. The part I purchased was much too short. It would have been different if I had picked the part myself, but an employee chose it for me. After feeling frustrated for a while, I remembered that I had an old rim in the garage. It was a rookie mistake for them to sell me the wrong size, but I guess these things happen. While it was only a few bucks, it's the principle that matters. Other than that this bike shop is excellent. Although much like vinyl record enthusiasts, cyclists are quite swellheaded. This happened a few months ago and it still pissed about the experience. I walked in and I see two guys in the front so I ask them a question about brakes and the two guys just gave me a blank stare, no greeting, no word at all. After repeating the question again a guy in the back was kind enough to help me and service my bike. The guy who helped was friendly and answered all my Q's but the other guys in the front of the shop just did not bother to say a word from the start and didn't really look away either for some reason. They just thought they were invisible and stared at me while I had a conversation with the guy. Weird vibes but other than that, the bike was fixed and questions were answered. Left happy about the bike but left feeling weird because 2/3 of those guys were staring at me like I came into the wrong side of town. Felt extremely uncomfortable the entire time. read more

I came in one rainy Sunday to ask Cameron for help to put on the tires for me as my hands were hurting from earlier training I did at Long Beach. I am a cyclist and Experience Triathlete and had changed tires multiple times, but that Sunday my hands were not working well lol came to the shop asking if anyone can help me put the tires on he tried to put it on, but unfortunately, his valve unit fell inside the carbon wheel. If you don't know much about bicycles I would be careful coming here. I am new to cycling and I brought a road bike in for a tune up. Picked the bike up a couple of days later assuming it would be running great like they told me it would . Wrong. Again I'm new to the scene so I didn't really know what to look for but when I went for a ride the next day I noticed I wasn't able to shift through all the gears. took it in to another shop and they were able to fix the issue (for free). For nearly 200$ I expected the bike to be flying. Or at least tell me what's wrong with it so we can get it fixed. If you're an experienced cyclist who knows what you need and don't really have any questions maybe your experience will be different. This shop doesn't seem too welcoming for people just starting to get into cycling. read more

I went here a couple days ago looking for a bike for myself. This was my first time looking for a bike as it had been years since I've owned a bike. But with the new year, I want to make some healthier changes. I came into the store not knowing where to start, but I was assisted by one of the friendly and knowledgeable associates who helped get a better understanding of what bike I should be looking for. He was able to answer any and all of my questions I had. He did his best to find something for me, however they didn't have a bike in the size I needed. But they were able to find one and had placed an order for me. It'll be a couple of weeks until they get it, but I was reassured that once it arrived, it will be built, and I will be called once it is ready. Bought a used bike with two flat tires. Came to buy a pump valve so I can inflate it and possibly change it out if needed. Since I was already here, I figured I could buy the spare tubes also, saving me a trip back in case the tubes needed replacement. I explained the situation to an employee and specifically asked about their return policy. They said any parts can be returned with the original receipt and said I can just grab 2 tubes, and return whatever I don't need. Turns out I didn't need tubes at all so I took them back to the store 2 days after I bought it, brand new and completely unopened, with the original receipt. The cashier who sold me the tubes recognized me but couldn't do the return so he called his supervisor/manager over. He then told me I can't do returns, even though the cashier next to him had JUST told me that I was able to return it 2 days ago. The manager explained the return policy is only for store credit, and told me "you should have read the policy" which I attached. The policy clearly says returns are acceptable with receipt and store credit is only given when you DON'T have the receipt. In addition, his employee even said I can return it with my receipt. I explained all this to him. He said "well you should have read the receipt" which states you can return for store credit... Now how am I going to read a receipt for something BEFORE I buy it??? Thats exactly why I asked an employee!! He proceeded to tell me "look, it doesnt matter what the policy reads or what someone told you, during this COVID time, I can just not accept your return. You or someone from your home can have COVID. I shouldnt even touch this box." And I asked him if I can still return it for store credit, and he said yes... What is the difference??? TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Employees dont know their own store policies. They can't honor what they promise. Even if they can't, the very least they could do is offer an apology. Nope, nothing but being rude and stressing that I should have read my receipt before I bought something.. Ridiculous. read more

We came in looking for a new bicycle, The staff was very friendly as they gave us recommendations based on our boys height. He loved the Electra bike out in display, the staff took off the training wheels for us and made sure it was all ready to go. As we were outside teaching our boy how to ride his new bike, Cam from the shop noticed he could benefit from lowering the seat a little more. He came out and adjusted it so that our boy sat confidently. He also gave us great tips on how to help him ride easier without the training wheel. I am retired veteran of the United States Army, trying to call this company, because they said there's a lifetime warranty on this light. I've called several times, left voicemails, and nobody has ever gotten back to me. I'm an outstanding member of the community for over 27 years, I'm just trying to get exercise like the doctor said and ride my bike in the night time when nobody's around, but I don't have a working headlight that this company said the product that was purchased from them has a lifetime warranty on. So this is why I gave this place a one star. If a retired veteran from the United States Army cannot get service, then what is this country coming to? The only way I'm taking this post down now is, I don't need to replace the light, I need to replace the battery on the inside that never held a charge I tried to go to the manufacturer, but there's somewhere in Europe, I think so the only option I have now, is go to the place, that sold Yogi the light, and told him that there is a lifetime warranty. I'm not looking for any handouts, but I would like to ride my bike in the nighttime because I suffer from PTSD from what I've saw in the military. Here's an update, just got off the phone with the owner of the store, he was very rude, and basically hung up on what could've been a lifelong customer as it stands, I wouldn't recommend this place ever! read more

In the age of motorized skateboards and scooters it's good to know there is still a bicycle shop that still thrives in the new dawn of laziness. A store that keeps physical exercise alive though pedal driven, human powered single track vehicles. A shop that still delivers quality bicycles at affordable prices not to mention the service that goes along with it. One can tell the employees here are dedicated as soon as you step foot inside the store. The Apache like stripe on the cheek with a pair of greased up hands tell you they get down and dirty with their craft and also have fun with it.I've purchased a couple of Bmx and street bikes here and I'm never disappointed with the service or time frame that is given to me. So let's not forget the once principal means of our transportation and recreation and come on through and grab yourself a two wheeler and get pumping. Decided to write a review on my experience with shopping for a road bike. Disclaimer: came into the shop not an expert on bikes. Had questions, all I knew was I was in the market for a road bike and comfort was a priority for me. The reason for the 3 star review was the customer service. I went through all other reviews and was taken aback by the 5 star review for customer service because I was definitely not feeling the 5 star treatment. I was greeted and I had told him what I was looking for. He spoke with no eye contact and in an uninterested manner. One question was followed up with one answer and nothing more. It's difficult to know what you really want without the help with a consultant but this person really didn't care to sell a bike. I asked him what different road bikes he carried and he showed me to a section with only one bike that matched what I wanted. After 5 minutes he stated he was assuming that I wouldn't be able to afford anything more expensive but he has something for $7000 that matched what I was looking for. He allowed me to sit on the bike that he suggested but everytime I sat down the seat would fall (I'm not an expert or anything but I don't think it's supposed to do that) and the consultant didn't do anything. Just the same I don't care attitude. But anyways safe to say that I would not be purchasing a bike that may or may not be broken??? And would definitely not buy a bike from people who don't care. We thanked him and was ready to leave. He thanked us and wished us luck because bikes are limited due to the pandemic. I think his luck worked because I found the bike of my dreams. read more

I was ready to drop some serious money today. Brand new bikes, helmets, for me and my two kids--car mounts and bells/baskets. We've been here before. I like supporting small/local businesses...especially for things like getting my kids their first bicycle. There were two people in front of us so my kids and I waited patiently for our turn. We were acknowledged when we first entered so we looked around the store while my kids got excited about getting their first set of wheels. Two groups came in after us. Since those two groups were crowding us a bit (one man actually pushed past us to get right up to the counter) but the shop workers clearly knew we were there so I figured it was okay to continue browsing. Until I noticed the group that came in after us went straight to the counter and got helped right away. Okay. No big deal. So I stood back "in line" (though there wasn't any kind of line) at the front counter. Then it happened again. The man who earlier pushed his way right past us got helped ahead of us. Again. I figured only pushy people got helped. So I spoke up this time. Then shop worker turned to me and said "oh ma'am, you're just picking up two bikes, right?" Nope. That wasn't me. I told him so and he told me he'll be right with me (which he had already told me twice before it was our "turn"). I'm no Karen.....but dang! There's a part of me that gets it because only the pushy guys got helped today. My kids were very well behaved the entire time but I also know there's a time limit and I wasn't trying to wait around for an impending meltdown while not getting attended to. So I left. I figured they must have all that business to be ignoring us. Any recommendations for another small/local bike shop who would take care of us? read more

I had just purchased my bike and decided to stop at Covina Cyclery for maintenance. Full tune up, cables change etc. I have a Chas Roberts with original Campy components. Even though the brakes were barely worn, the bike mechanic suggested I change out my brake pads. And I agreed because they were old and brittle. I ask if he can put some Shimano pads on and because I have Campanolo brake shoes he said it doesn't work with the brake shoes. So I said ok, yes, that wouldn't work. And he suggested some other brake pads and I'm not fussy about the brake pads so I said ok. When all said and done my bill came out to $206 and I happily take home my bike. When I got home I noticed they took off the Campy brake shoes. They didn't call to consult me. And when I called back whoever picked up the phone said it was not possible to slip new brake pads into my component in a way that made me feel stupid for asking (I'm not sure if they couldn't do it or it was out of carelessness that they would replace Campy components for basic ones). Anyway I actually believed him for a few moments but then I remember I've seen brake pads sold separately so I thought it was odd. I decided to call REI and they said they could do it. And they did! So I take my bike back to Covina Cyclery and explained the situation. The guy mechanic (not the one that fixed my bike) only offered to refund the cost of the brake pads and not the labor. I have anxiety about situations like this sometimes but I felt like I gave him good reasons to also refund me something for the labor too. I paid $40 at REI, I would have been happy with $20. He said it was an all inclusive deal so there was no real charge for the labor portion. I gave my reasons, I said that I had to go elsewhere to get it done because when I called they said it's not possible, that no one consulted me about about changing out original components and it's the right thing to do to compensate me something. I had reiterate these points over a few times and when he only gave me back the money for the brake pads, I said 'I mean do you guys know what Campy is?" (A little out of frustration, haha). The bike mechanic made a snarky remark, 'No, it's my first day.' Then why would you take off the original Campy components? It diminishes the integrity of the bike. I feel like it was a fuck you to the bicycle world. It's very disrespectful to the bike and very unprofessional. On another note, there was some other issues with the bike cable that they replaced. They made it too taut, the mechanic at REI told me. And I even told the first guy who fixed my bike at Covina Cyclery that I had arthritis. I don't know what else to say but I can't trust them now. It's a pity because they are local and have a vintage Eddy Merckx that I like to look at when I go into the shop. read more
