My boyfriend and I frequent the BECU ATM nearby every so often and if Asensio Coffee is open then we will stop by. They have seasonal specials which is always a win for my boyfriend and I as we love trying out new specials. The staff here greeted us warmly and was very patient with the customer before us who was buying a gift card and helped us with the same professionalism and friendliness. We stopped by recently to grab their fall drinks and I saw on the sign that the drink I chose pairs well with a pumpkin spice whipped cream. It is extra so I decided against it. We found a spot to sit at while we waited for our drinks and not only did the employee hand delivered our drinks to us but told me she added the pumpkin spice whipped cream for me. I thought that was super sweet of her that makes the visit all the more special and reason to visit. They do also have a reward system that we joined too. The store is well maintained and there are plenty of seating and tables for all sorts of groups or sole patrons. They have some handcrafted goods to buy as well. We asked if they were dog friendly and they said dogs are welcome so we definitely will stop by more often as the weather gets colder. read more

I love this Coffee shop. It's nowhere near me, but I visit whenever I have a weekday off. Today I had an iced pistachio matcha latte. I'm very picky about my matcha lattes and this was fantastic. I also tried the jalapeño bagel breakfast sandwich. Yummy and filling - I was only able to finish half. Baristas are friendly and really care about service. Place is a cool spot for catching up w/ a friend, getting some work done, or if you just want some alone time. Come check out this coffee shop - you'll love it! read more

I'll start off by saying the coffee is good it's very bold and smooth. The service is blah to rude depending on who's at the front counter this is the only reason why I don't go regularly. I know it's a big locals spot maybe the regulars are treated better but I doubt it. Parking is fine the shop itself is fine but the attitude of some of the employees really isn't inviting. I'd rather travel out to downtown tacoma for better service. read more

As I was in the area getting car work done I needed a place to sit and work and I'm so glad to have found this coffee shop! The atmosphere was very family friendly, with many people meeting up for coffee and others like myself who were working on their computers! There was also the option for outdoor seating with two tables outside. The baristas were also all very kind and made my experience that much better! I got to try the bacon burrito which was warmed up throughly for the perfect bite. Truly the best burrito I've had in a long time and would definitely recommend. Popped in and grabbed a drip and a lavender latte with an extra shot. The drip was good, pretty standard as far as drips go but not too acidic or bitter. Nice balance. The lavender latte was not good, maybe it was the syrup? But one sip from both of us and we tossed it out. Service is fine. Interior is clean, lots to look at. I would do 2.5 stars. read more

First timer! When I walked in, there's a shelf of snacks on the right. It made me happy to realize that there's good vegan, gluten free, and/ or soy free options for snacks! I ordered the sweet matcha latte with soy milk sub, and my partner ordered the caramel macchiato with soy milk sub. The drinks were yummy and weren't saturated in sugar syrup or anything crazy so that was awesome! Service was quick, there seems to be a lot of regulars who come in, which is a great sign! Our house is near this coffee shop and we love the people in here. We come here whenever we have a chance or when when we rush to go to work. The workers here are so so so friendly. They not only remember what our drinks is and they always carry their lovely faces to welcome us. This is my second visit to Asensio. It's been a couple years. The coffee is still a spot on! I had a 20 ounce butter pecan latte with an extra shot. Their espresso roast is fantastic: a good quality coffee! The lobby/seating area is starting to get very worn and would definitely benefit from some updating/ remodeling. (Broken floor tiles, worn wood, leather easy chairs coming unstitched.). However, as a business owner myself, I am fully aware of the financial cost and difficulty in finding contractors to upgrade the space. I am sure that will come in time. A big shout out to the owner for keeping the quality up and making this a fantastic place to sip coffee while working on a paper or reading a book. read more

LOVE this coffee shop! Great atmosphere right off the back. Maybe a little crowded, but there's definitely a lot of thought and charm that goes into the layout and the decor - definitely loved that the chair I used was an up-cycled pitchfork! Excellent customer service all around - she even brought the drinks out to the table, which is something I always appreciate, but don't expect in places like this. This coffee shop basically has all of the drinks you'd expect to find at a gourmet coffee shop and they do them really well. I really like that they have several choices for non-dairy milks. Looking around I saw that they had several food selections, which includes vegan and GF. Found a new space to work from "home". I'm all for supporting local coffee shops. This place is all that and they know it. My first time, I could tell that they really value community. The staff notices new customers and welcome their daily usuals. Being my first time, I could tell the staff was a little stand off-ish and weren't as peppy towards a new face. I plan on being a regular so no worries about that. I ordered a small iced London fog, but they could only do a large if it was iced. I thought that was kind of weird, but you know, treat yourself I guess lol. The tea was quality and it wasn't too sweet. The one downside is that they don't really have any COVID precaution. The staff never wears masks and do not enforce it for customers. It's nice that the space is big enough that if you want to work there, it's good for social distancing. You don't have to be close to anyone, just mainly when you order. Located in federal way. They have a private parking lot. Perfect space to study/get work done. Plenty of outlets. We were kind of underwhelmed here. The general consensus is that Asensio is the best coffee in Federal Way. We just had a brewed coffee, and it tasted very ashy. There are a few reasons coffee can taste like cigarettes or ashtray, but I'm not sure which would have applied in this case. The pastry case was empty except for an apricot white chocolate scone. It was pretty good. The service was friendly, and the place was bustling with people making purchases including bags of beans to go. The ambiance is a relaxed casual seating space if you want to stay. Everything about the place seemed on target, but the focal point of the place, coffee, was a let down. read more

My friend encouraged me to try Asensio Coffee after raving about their white coffee. We went in for a quick drink before a day of adventure. It's funny because I feel like most coffee shops try to stick to a modern aesthetic that appeals to millennials and Gen Z, but this coffee shop had maintained the vibe of the early 2000's coffee shop. The cafe was busy (in a good way) and the majority of customers were Gen X and older, which has never stood out to me as much as it did here. I truly think it is because they have maintained the familiar cafe feeling of the turn of the century. Something cool is that the cafe is definitely environmentally and healthy living positive. There were lots of items, prepackaged, and fresh foods for sale, and they boasted of being ethically sourced, organic, compostable, etc. I felt better about my health just being here. As much as I love my sweet, sugary coffees, I felt like I was making a healthy choice being here! The staff were all very friendly and working quickly. The staff were all moving like a well oiled machine and serving drinks efficiently. The coffee shop had chalkboard menus and had a rotating seasonal menu. I ordered an iced white latte with strawberry and vanilla. It was made with real strawberry juice and was so light and sweet! Their white espresso paired with the strawberry tasted more akin to a naturally sweetened pink drink than a syrupy strawberry coffee. There are many choices here, including sandwiches/bagels and packaged snacks. Since parking is plentiful, it's a good place to pop in and out to quickly get coffee and snacks. The staff is very nice to my white husband, but when I go in alone as a Black woman, they're extremely unfriendly and rude. A few weeks ago, my white in-laws visited and were treated very well, but when my Black family comes in, the staff is standoffish and doesn't even respond when someone says "good morning" or "thank you." They have it all, organic syrups, organic milks, agave, coconut sugar, almond sugar, 8 different alternative milk selections and so much more. Anything your heart desires they can make it. I have tried the organic spice chia, so good, it has the best kick and after taste! My favorite drink to order is a white coffee latte with organic whole milk, the white coffee has a higher content of caffeine, and has a nutty flavor, tastes nothing like normal coffee. I really liked the ginger lime tea, and the cinnamon plum tea such rich flavor. The pastries are made from a bakery in Seattle, and are pure perfection! Went here since it had a good rating. Unfortunately this place is anti-maskery and kind of aggressive about it. Fairly small space, very full, very few people masked. A table of elderly men began fake-coughing as soon as I entered, and another woman at least 15 years my senior with her mask casually at her chin went out of her way to engage me about it with a passive-aggressive "oh SORRY" before joking with the barista about being tossed from a plane or something. I never even said anything to these people, it was provoked by me wearing mine and seemed to be the culture of the establishment. And the saddest part is that the majority of the people behaving this way were 40+, really immature and kind of disorienting for a place that's trying so hard to brand itself as organic and seem healthy or community-minded. read more

Wonderful spot! If you're looking for a quality locally owned cafe to go to, this is thee spot in Federal Way. The owners Jeff and Amy are amazing and at least one of them is usually in the cafe. Coffee? Highly recommend trying a latte with lavender syrup, they're one of the few places that carry the flavor. Non-Coffee? HIGHLY recommend their hot chocolate, by far the best true-to-taste hot chocolate I've had. They also have something I have never seen anywhere else, a white roast coffee with a uniquely nutty flavor. Best qualities: Open very early, Amazing service and friendly baristas, plenty of seating and outlets for studying, and above-average espresso. Downsides: kind of pricy, have been slow to open up indoor seating (totally understandable), and close fairly early which means no late afternoon studying for students. read more

Was in the area for a business trip, and Asensio seemed to be one of the only coffee spots in the area that was open at 7:00am on a Tuesday (excluding Starbucks, because that's junk coffee to me). My co-worker and I gave it a shot, and it became THE coffee place we went to every morning for the entire trip. The coffee is EPIC, and the barista (middle age guy) made lattes of my dreams. My norm Carmel macchiato at a Starbucks is either sweet or bitter but here it was perfect not bitter or too sweet! Prices are decent, I believe their similar to Bigfoot but either way worth it. The have lots of different milk options as well. I had also ordered a pepper jack sausage & eggs bagel and oh my it was something else! I normally don't eat breakfast sandwiches but after having theirs I might have to make it a routine . Seatings inside it's not super big. I can't remember if they offered any outside since they are on a corner. Staffs were all very nice and sweet! The cashier was very helpful and detailed when we had questions.
