Says Summer 2017 still. Looks forgotten

*Update* You know what? I got to give them props. They saw I wasn't to happy about this location (here I go acting like the Queen) but seriously I did expect more. Anyway, they actually reached out to me and invited me in. I haven't set a date yet but I find that very respectable of them as a business. It shows that they take criticism and suggestions in the way it should be taken... to improve. So for customer service I'll give them an A (except for the sales person who is always gossiping or listening to his/her iPod. Don't want to call this person out as I don't want them to loose their job or something. Hey, I'd probably do the same since it's so dead in there haha). I really hope this store works well because it's so close to me. *Original* I love BlueMercury. It's my favorite place after Sephora to shop for beauty related items. I live on the same block from this location so when I found out it was opening at 4 E. Elms new building I was ecstatic. While construction was going on, I was looking for information about the opening date and if there were any opening events (I run a successful beauty website, so I wanted to see if I can cover the event for my blog) but couldn't find any info about the opening. All it said was Opening This Summer on the windows. Well, Summer came and left and the store was still not open. One day I was passing by and all of the sudden I saw this chalk board saying "we are open". That was super random. To me it seems that they did a rush opening because when I visited this location I was super disappointed. 1). The store isn't completely finished. The windows have this cheap looking "now open" sign that looks more like a Dollar Store sign than an upscale beauty store. 2). It's super cramped. The layout in there is horrible. I literally couldn't turn around without worry about knocking over an expensive candle with my purse. On top of that, there are too many employees. I can literally feel them breathing down my neck. It's such a small space for that many employees. It makes me not want to go there because I get anxiety just thinking about the employees asking me if I need help every 2 minutes and theres no escaping them. It's too small to browse peacefully while shopping. They literally are on top of you. Not because they are bad (they were all super nice) but because theres no room for them lol. 3). No special opening. With online shopping so prevalent now days, if I go into a store I go for the experience and fun. As I mentioned I run a heavily trafficked beauty blog and I always shop for cosmetics both as a hobby and job. I love everything from makeup to candles to hair care. So for me, going into a store is all about the experience. It's just not as fun to come here as it is to go to Sephora on Michigan Ave or another BlueMercury location. This was my first visit. I hate to give it such a low rating but it's just not up to par with the other locations. Hopefully it will improve. It was fully stocked with great products, clean, friendly staff and great location but thats it. Maybe when they put more focus on the store it will get better and than I can review it again. These are just my opinions and how I felt about this location.

I stopped by this morning and Kerry O was amazing. She was so kind, knowledgeable and understanding of what I was looking for as a gift for my boss. During these stressful times she knew what to put together and went out of her way to make sure it looked great. Thank you for your help, I hope some appreciation and recognition from your company comes your way. Thanks for the laughs too :-)

I've never been in a Blue Mercury, and the staff was so welcoming and knowledgeable on everything.

It's such a lovely shop tucked away on Dearborn; the Monadnock Building's history is fascinating too that's all captured in its Wikipedia page. Field & Florist has niche perfumes and divine, custom floral arrangement services, but I came specifically for the latter; I highly, highly recommend them if you're looking for unique fragrances and/or florals. You can also purchase your own stems to make your own bouquet, but if you have an inspiration (yet are short on time), I highly recommend using their serviecs to curate a beautiful bouquet. You can also work with them to pair a fragrance with your florals - I cannot wait to be back in Chicago to stop by them again! If you enter from the street, stay focused on the stairs; if you need wheelchair/mobility impaired access, I'd go through the side building access (by Intelligentsia). All doors are heavy either way, so be careful there too. For floral arrangements: Let them know what your inspiration is and your budget, and they'll work with you. For me, it was Sriracha tofu and I was looking for something under $100; and the florist definitely came through. I loved how quickly they picked up on the white and red themes, and incorporated the The entire experience was extremely low pressure and its a very clam environment. They make sure to ask if you need a wet bag if you won't be able to get your flowers into a vase in less than 3 hours; that's an ~$10 charge, but extremely valuable for me as I was walking around downtown with the flowers for 3 hours and wasn't able to get it into a vase for another 6 hours. I do wish I'd picked up some perfumes - they had the d'Annam, as well as a few other niche brands, that I'd been eyeing for years. So, so happy I got to smell them at long last. In addition to the testers, they give you 2 samples when you make a fragrance purchase and they do up to 3 decants in the store in case you're having a hard time deciding. If you need to wait, I recommend stopping by Intelligentsia - in the same building - before heading back over to view, accept, & pay for your order.

I was disheartened to find out that they were out of the Gaiac 10 and Osmanthus samples, but they informed me that they have the juice to make the full sizes starting Sept 1. So, I ordered the Gaiac 10 and Osmanthus online, and bought several other samples in person. I truly had a great time bantering about fragrance with Ruben, and look forward to coming back after Sept 1 - most likely to get a Gaiac 10 bottle. Nathan described it perfectly when he said it's intimate but long lasting. It's the perfect scent intensity for my sensitive nose. I only wish they made Gaiac hand lotion too!
