I had heard great things about this place from a few friends and finally had the chance to visit so decided to make a reservation for the A&D Picnic ($45/person). This was completely overpriced as it solely includes seating and a lunch tray (yes, like those you get at a school cafeteria) with a measly assortment of raw vegetables (embellished as "crudités"), prepackaged "sausage", over-salted focaccia, and a block of petite breakfast brie anybody can find at Trader Joes. I think they were trying to be edgy/hip but it really didn't work, the food itself was mediocre, and it felt awkward carrying our trays from the front building out to the back seating area. This package also didn't include any wine. We ordered a bottle of the 2017 Red Hen Cab Sauv, which we all agreed was an excellent wine--silky smooth, deliciously jammy, and very palatable. We were recommended to try this by a somm from Trefethen and it was well worth the price ($85). One of the main draws was definitely the interesting architecture and overall modern design of the winery. It is quite picturesque--however, it seems like their expert millennial-targeted marketing got the best of me. The winery itself is only a short distance from the main road, and did not feel as secluded as others we've visited (Artesa, Trefethen, etc.). I didn't feel that the mid-century modern design was worth what we paid for the seating, and the service was acceptable at best, with minimal guidance/explanations on the wines that we have come to expect from reputable wineries. Despite the excellent wine, I think our overall experience was tainted by the poor ambience and abysmal/over-priced food offerings. If we were to ever return, we would stick with the A&D Wines+Cheese ($75)-- seems like a better deal and at least it includes 5 wine tastings. The place is swanky and unique, colorful and modern, the architecture and design is really something to stop and take in. You'll see what I mean when you arrive. I wouldn't call the place beautiful, you definitely don't feel like you're at a Napa vineyard here, again you'll see what I mean. We walked into the tasting room and took a seat at the bar, I felt like we were at a restaurant, as opposed to a vineyard, which I kind of liked. The people working here were just straight up cool, super outgoing and fun, very very passionate about their wines, what they're all about and their knowledge about each production was really thorough. The bread they gave, goodness gracious. I don't eat bread, literally never, but I ate this bread because it was that tempting and that good. Their tasting wasn't cheap, $40 or so and their wines were pretty tasty. I believe they were all reds if I remember correctly. The space is beautiful, filled with 1960s/1970s references mixed with a modern aesthetic. I love the simplicity of the design and colors they use. They have a really nice grassy area where you can picnic, a nice fire pit, and also a dining area that is shaded. Everything is easily bookable and prepaid through Tock. Though everything was good, I don't think I would consider this experience worth the money. We went with the A&D WINES + FOOD package at $125/person. WINE Their wines are meant to be more on the acidic side. Since the food is family style and all served at once, they say their wines really go with anything, but they do make suggestions on what works best with which wine. They bring out individual carafes of wine one at a time and you pour into your wine glasses yourselves. My favorite from the tasting was definitely the 2016 cabernet franc and we definitely took a bottle home with us :). It was just so easy to drink and is meant to be served chilled (so if you usually don't like red wine, give this one a go!). We also got a taste of another one of their white wines (not on the tasting menu), which was also really good, but I forgot the name :( Wines are on the pricier side, starting at $50 ~ 125. They did a really great job at giving us the background on all of the wines and the winery. FYI - This place is owned by the son of the owner of Darioush Winery. FOOD Every dish was delicious and beautifully plated, flavors were really on point. We got 4 dishes total (carrot 3 ways, tomato salad, corn/avocado, kebabs). My favorite was the tomato salad - best combo of sweet and tangy, and amazingly crisp croutons! The corn was also a big hit. But, for family style, I felt like the portioning was a little off, especially at $125 per person. It all seemed more like appetizers, especially the two kebabs, the only meat dish we received. I was really missing some type of carb - their focaccia would have been great! - and a dessert to go with the wine. As we were about to leave, we saw a table of two that had the same exact set up as us (we were a party of 3). Visited this last weekend (August 2020) and we were a bit disappointed. Won't be back. We thought we had purchased a wine tasting with snacks, but ended up only buying a snack tray for $40 (had chips, veggies and some dips like hummus, harissa and a yogurt dip, mini Brie cheese, focaccia bread piece and some pepperoni sausages.) snacks tasted ok but not worth the $40, could get a good plate of food for that at one of the restaurants in Napa. They currently don't offer any tastings which we were looking for and had to buy a bottle of wine without trying (!!!! Never experienced this) we Chose the Rose as it was perfect for a hot day and my girlfriends and I like roses... (it said it's only for wine club member so we were happy to still get it ). However, None of us liked the rose as it left a very unpleasant (sour) aftertaste. I usually like dry wines and can't remember this aftertaste so not sure what was off with this one. More of a tasting room/restaurant than a legit winery, and at $35 per tasting, I would expect a little more individualized attention or even background on what wine we were drinking. Celebrated my 21st birthday here over the weekend and had the absolute best time. The staff was so friendly, welcoming, and overall just amazing. The location was easy to find, the wine was divine and the vibe was out of this world loved the architecture and mid-century feel. I had Blair as my sommelier and she was so well educated and knowledgeable on the wine. I learned so much, she was amazing and definitely will be the reason I go back and get a membership here. I've been to ashes and diamonds twice. One time was with a significant other and the other was with a large group of girls. The first time I was here to be honest I was a bit underwhelmed. The architecture is beautiful and if you're stopping in Napa it is definitely a must see. But if you are local I do believe that the winds are a bit to be decided. So why the five star review? We had the most amazing time with the best host ever Caro. When we originally showed up we were going to do an all red tasting which was pre-scheduled and the girl group decided to do an all white tasting and she was so accommodating and so much fun. Thank you so much for taking the most incredible pictures and being so hospitable. We actually got to try a few different wines that we had not had before and almost every girl left with a magnum bottle which says a lot. First time This was our second stop on a Friday late afternoon of our Moms weekend in Napa. Our first stop was at B cellars (food and wine pairing) and we wanted our second destination to be different and not like everywhere else. According to Eater.com, A&D is making an old school wine tasting into a modern hip place. Matt was our guide and he met us with a glass of wine and we ventured out into the vineyards. He explained the property, the geography and how it affects the grapes. We learned about the grape vines and how they manage them, then we went inside and did a barrel tasting, then went into the tasting room where he guided us through a tasting of their library wines, paired with Chef Ethan's bites. Matt couldn't have been more attentive and generous with the wines. For $125 a person, we felt like it was a really good value. A private guide for three hours, delicious bites paired with their hard to find wines, the education component, all for what some wineries charge for a tasting. One thing I forgot to mention, the tour and educational part was the perfect length. It wasn't too long, plus Matt was happy to answer any question we had. Can't recommend it enough. read more

We have been club members here for the past 6 months and love it. The vibe is a step different than your traditional winery. Some say it evokes Palm Springs but I would also go with retro Hollywood. The wines are delicious as well. I prefer the Gran Vin and Vineyard 1 as they are more on the herbaceous and earthy side rather than the fruit bombs Napa is more known for. If you're going to be a club member, I suggest the 6 bottle. Not only will you drink more wine, but the food experiences alone are worth it! Gosh, I thought that Ashes & Diamonds was such a letdown. This winery is owned by the son of Darioush. After scoring some last minute reservations online, we were looking forward to this visit. We tried a couple of their wines at outsidelands this past year which is how we heard of the place. Well, the ambiance just wasn't for me. The music was terrible. It felt sterile inside and was just trying way too hard for glitz and glam. It also took forever to get anyone's attention once we were given a table. The wine just flat out wasn't good. I wasn't impressed with any of their reds and their one white. The wine didn't have any depth and I couldn't get through any of the pours. The extra star goes to the really nice guy who eventually led us through our tasting. If you're more into instagramming and the look rather than the actual bottle, this spot is for you. read more

My sister was so excited to visit this winery when we had a sister day in Napa. This place is aesthetically pleasing and probably make it in a magazine but we were so unhappy with the service. We were seated by the hostess pretty quickly and was served a wine tasting without having a reservation. We noticed that there was food served but no food menu in our table and I thought it was because we were sitting in a section just for wine tastings, we figured that out waiter will talk to us about it later. We chose to try out the "Diamonds on the Mountain" wine tasting menu and noticed that we were only spoken to when we were served the next wine for 30 and when we said thank you for our water refills. Other people were checked on and had nice interactions with their servers. No one ever mentioned the food menu to us but when another couple got seated right next to us they were served warm bread, a spittoon and a friendly conversation. The only clear reason we can think of being treated differently is because we are not Caucasian/white/whatever term you are comfortable with. I didn't think this was necessarily an issue at first as we saw some different races represented by some of the employees. Maybe it was because we didn't look like we will spend thousands of dollars here but who are they to judge? I don't think that should make a difference in service. My sister wanted to buy a bottle but as we came to the conclusion that this was not a business we wanted to support further we politely declined when we got the bill. It's the antithesis of Darioush even though it's owned by the same family. We loved the mid-century modern architecture even if it was a little heavy on the yellow. The hospitality was pleasant. Wine-wise, this place was recommended to us by a winemaker friend on the strength of the Cab Franc and he was right. We loved it. The winemaking style is much more understated than its Napa brethren. It's more of a French style or at least "minimal intervention." When I heard that Steve Mathiasson was one of their consulting winemakers, my attitude improved. While he's not the main winemaker going forward but the fact that worked with him in speaks volumes. I've seen mention of exorbitant tasting fees but by the time our server was done helping us "revisit" wines and offered some additional pours, it was more than in line with surrounding wineries. Truth be told, I'm not a big fan of the Darioush's "over the top" LA feel so I came to A&D with a bit of a bad attitude but they turned that around with the vibe, the service and the Cab Franc. 5/5 stars if you are WHITE. As an ASAIN AMERICAN I have to give this winery a poor rating. The wines were wonderful and different from what other Napa wineries have to offer. The grounds were beautiful with the mid century modern vibes. My friends and I were really enjoying our tastings and wanted to sign up to be club members. We are so glad we didn't. We felt this establishment is discriminatory due to the following reasons; -when we asked for blankets as it was getting chilly in the evening the server told us they ran out. A table with Caucasians that were seated after us were given blankets. Other white guests around us also had blankets. -we asked if we could be moved inside, we were told there are no available seatings inside. There were 3 different unoccupied seating areas inside. Fine, maybe it was reserved. However another group of Caucasians that came after us were able to move their tastings from outside to inside. -when trying to wave down any server, eye contact was purposely avoided and we were not helped Overall, I wanted to love this place as I loved their wine. Most of the wines don't come from their own estate, which seemed odd to me, but apparently is common practice? Almost all wines are also north of $65 per bottle, so not really budget-friendly. We did a whole day of wine tasting. Started in St Helena and Spring mountain vineyards, then to Alphe Omega, and finished the day with Ashes and Diamonds. We do wine tasting regularly, in Oregon, in Woodinville, and in Napa. I would have to say that unfortunately, this has been one of the most disappointing and overpriced wineries I have ever been to. With a mandatory cheese board, the red wines that were served CHILLED!!!!!!!! And overall, wine tasting that kept disappointing. This place was recommended to us by friends who are members...and we left feeling like we wasted our time. We did the tasting with a wine and cheese pairing, and the setting was lovely. We had a "waitress", which I say because she clearly didn't know wine, who attended to us. Despite our friends calling ahead to ask we use their member benefits, we were treated the same as everyone else. Our waitress, when asked any question, responded with "it depends", "it varies", "there's a lot of different types"...vague answers that told us she had no idea what she was doing. If you don't know, say you don't know. Fine. I don't like it but respect the honesty. Don't tell me your wine is special for having xxx when you can't tell me what other places are doing. On top of that, and the thing that bothered me the most....no new glasses. White to red. Red to red. Didn't matter. We were expected to pour into the same glass. Every other winery we went to brought us a new glass for a new wine. Hell, I'd do that if I was serving my friends in my own home. For being the new kids on the block, as they describe themselves, they sure are doing a poor job of it. They get 2 stars for a decent cheese plate (and AMAZING homemade focaccia), but skip this winery and stick to the classics.
