Twisted Tides Review - First and Last Time Beautiful new restaurant with clear upgrades from the previous owner, but unfortunately that's where the positives end. The food is overpriced and mediocre. Most of the menu is based on "market prices" (which aren't listed). I ordered the $21 mussels, was told it came with pasta or rice, but it didn't. The portion was plain and definitely not worth the price. The burger was actually fantastic - I'd call this place more of an overpriced burger/bar than a fine dining spot. The ceviche was tasty, but again, not worth what they charged. I've had better ceviche at half the price elsewhere, so I don't understand how they justify "market price" for it. Kids' menu was disappointing. My son ordered noodles and butter, which should have come with fries per the menu - they didn't. The noodles were overcooked, tasteless, and watery. The grilled shrimp looked nice but had no flavor. Service was another major issue. Despite the place being nearly empty (maybe 6 guests total), it was slow, understaffed, and unprofessional. At one point, food was handed to me while the server was still on their cell phone. Completely unacceptable. Overall, the owners have clearly put money into the building, but if they don't fix the food quality, pricing, and service, this is going to be a wasted investment. I made a reservation more than a week in advance for 19 people to eat dinner with my family after my gender reveal, which was at the beach nearby. We even called to confirm the morning of. When we arrived, they had absolutely no space for us. We were told we'd have to wait for tables to clear, which completely defeats the purpose of making a reservation. This was not a small oversight, this was a complete failure to honor a confirmed reservation. (Basa is a type of catfish, also known as swai or river cobbler, that is farmed in Southeast Asia, particularly in Vietnam's Mekong River.) Seasonal fish? BS! The restaurant happened to be serving grouper for another dish. The chef allowed the substitution. Thank you. The grouper was very good. The grouper was served over angel hair pasta. So over cooked that the pasta was broken up in little pieces!! I mentioned that to my waitress and she said, I prefer al'dente. Ya think everyone should be served pasta cooked properly. Maybe this is why the restaurant wasn't very busy? The menu clearly has two prices posted. One cash in blue and one in black for cc charging. One of the few places I see this process. 4% up charge for cc transactions. Wow!!! CC charges have around since the beginning. All of a sudden, restaurants want to ala carte the line item. Now let's get to the final bit here. They tax the tip!!!!! I guess the 4% cc charge isn't enough?? If one leaves a 20% tip, they are supplementing the tax by 20%. Mind blowing. CONSUMER BEWARE!! Medium sized pice of fish on a bed of lettuce with tomato heavy pico. Came with a side of rice and beans. The rice had olives in it which I don't care for but otherwise it was good. One of my daughters ordered the fish sandwich which was good. My other daughter ordered a chicken sandwich add bacon. They forgot the bacon. But otherwise was good as well. All in all the food was tasty. Service was a bit slow but they were having some technical issues with the computer system. We arrived in the relative cool evening of a Florida winter's day. The ocean mist had condensated on the table. Our engaging and articulate server who kindly greeted us, was reared on a farm in western Nebraska, did his best to make us comfortable and dry everything off despite the impossible situation. His menu recommendations were sincere and our food was delicious, expertly prepared and presented. The ambiance in the dark is limited to the reasonable yet unspectacular lighting. A few tables had portable heaters in use. Unfortunately we couldn't see the sea! But as a visitor from the great white north we had a charmed experience, loved smelling the ocean air and the entire experience. I had the coconut curry grouper, and it was the best piece of fish I've had in quite awhile. Just perfect. My wife had the mahi fish tacos. The fish was excellent, but she would've preferred flour tortillas over the corn. Her rice was average, while my coconut rice was superb. My date and I went in here for Karaoke and Wings on Tuesday. We had a few mix drinks each. The Bartender, when handing me the PDA to finish a Credit Card Transaction, pressed the 25% Tip button as she handed it to me, blatantly so. My response was "$125!" For which see convincingly looked me strait in the eye and said "yes, I will run out a tab list if you want", I declined giving her the benefit of the doubt. When I processed the transaction the Tip option never became available. When I got the printed end receipt, that's when I knew what that button was that she made sure to press, it was a 25% Tip. I do 20% even for bad service, maybe 22 or more for exceptional service....she would have been a 20%. She was intentionally deceitful because I wasn't a regular no doubt, and she knew I probably wasn't going to make a scene about it, she was right. I am going back again and spend some money there, and I'm not tipping her a red cent! read more
