Now I understand why a few elites have given this place 5 stars. It's honestly one of the best buffets I've been to. The food is actually really good, not your typical buffet food that tastes bland. Everything is flavorful and feels more authentic compared to other buffets. Best of all, the ice cream. It's real soft-serve ice cream. I rarely get ice cream at buffets, but I noticed so many people getting it that I had to try it and I'm glad I did. I'd love to come back, but unfortunately it's way too far from home. That said, we'll definitely return if we're ever in the area. No exaggeration, no fluff, just solid food praise. The buffet gods would approve.

I really do love Asia Buffet. Literally every dish they have - kung pao chicken, sushi, salad, fruit, tasty desserts, seafood assortments, orange chicken, chicken and broccoli...everything they have is delicious. I also LOVE that they have Chinese donuts! We opted for the to go option because we needed takeout, and truly, their prices are great! Dine in or take out, all recommended. We order catering trays from time to time from them as well. It was nice to see some working staff go around and make sure the food was staying fresh and they would radio if things needed to get replenished. It's a clean establishment with plenty of sit down seating. It's a great ambiance for families or other get togethers and again, I literally have all of my favorites offered! So yes, 5 stars. Oh and parking isn't a problem either. Winning!

The big sign at the entry to this shopping center fittingly has Asia Buffet in big block letters and on top. The owners have" Please let us know how we did with the quality of our food and service" at the bottom of the receipt. This has to rank as one of the top Asian/Chinese/Japanese AYCE experiences we have really enjoyed. The variety of the offerings was outstanding. The kids loved the hot and fresh pizza, the teriyaki chicken skewers, the fried rice, the General Tso's chicken, fried wontons, chicken wings and the ice cream and cookies. Asia Buffet on El Toro Road had really good sashimi. The sushi rolls were creative and tasty. The entrees were delicious - especially the bbq beef, the spare ribs, the Chicken and Broccoli, the Mushrooms in garlic and the seafood delight. The soups were incredibly good with a beautiful shrimp and seafood egg drop that I have never had before. That could have been my entire meal. The fresh fruit section was extraordinary. The cherries were fantastic. The kids loved the mixed chocolate and vanilla low fat ice cream. The restaurant is immaculate. The team here was constantly on the floor wiping, refilling and calling in to the kitchen. They were happy and smiling and very aware of patrons who were busy helping themselves. In some buffet places the kitchen personnel do charge out with that filled trolley and start the refilling process unaware of the adjacent folks still serving themselves. Our server Nana was amazing. She was so good with the kids. She kept our glasses refilled and our napkin holder stocked. She would pick up used plates and utensils in a jiffy and was on top of her game. The prices for this caliber of food were wonderful. Monday to Saturday dinner is $27 pp less 10 percent for us over 65 plus the soda, tax and tip. Kids 3-10 were at $1.99 times their age. Again fantastic prices. There is ample parking in the shopping center. We loved Asia Buffet.

So...I surprisingly agreed to give Asia Buffet another try after I had rated them 1 out of 5 stars over two years ago. Why did I go back? Well, the kids wanted seafood. Being a large family, that can get super expensive. One of us wanted a poke bowl, one wanted some kind of Asian food, and a couple wanted seafood boil. I reluctantly checked Yelp to see what more recent Yelpers were saying. Seemed like my Yelp friends felt it was a decent place, so I agreed to go, walk in and check the food to see if it looked good. I walked everyone around. The food looked like a fresh batch, there was Cajun seafood, all kinds of shellfish, crabs, sushi, bbq, fried food, carbs, soups, salads, fruits and dessert. Everyone was pleased with the selection so we stayed. The restaurant was quite full when we arrived around 7:30-7:45 pm, but we were seated immediately after paying for dinner. The tables and the food area, all looked clean this time around. Maybe the trick to coming to this place, is to come during rush hour so food is constantly topped off/replaced and fresh. The staff frequently removed old plates and topped our drinks off without having to be called over. They even have a huge jug of hand sanitizer to use before and or after handling the serving utensils. I really appreciated that because I'm a bit of a germophobe. I know, what am I doing at a buffet? I get it. I was just glad they provided sanitizer for their patrons. What I enjoyed tonight; 1) teriyaki chicken on skewers - it's fried, super juicy and tasty. This is my favorite chicken here. I could eat it every day. 2) mussels in garlic sauce 3) baked mussels 4) clams in broth 5) hot and sour soup - it is full of the hot and sour soup trimmings. They don't skimp on the tofu, bamboo, etc. 6) fried squid - these are not calamari rings and are lightly breaded 7) chicken wings 8) duck 9) sautéed green beans 10) fried bananas - I eat this as a dessert 11) sesame balls - I also eat this as a dessert. These had red bean inside. I don't know if they ever do mung bean which is also a good flavor. These were SO good. They were just made, crispy, chewy, still hot. 12) seaweed salad 13) fruits - strawberry, cherries They have sushi and sashimi here but I'm always wary of that in a buffet unless it's a high end place. I admit I had a few pieces of sushi which I thought was too daring of me. It was ok. Their raw fish is not a fill my plate or have seconds kind of meal. I stick to their cooked food. Overall I am going from 1 to 3 stars for Asia Buffet. The food was much better this time around. Everyone enjoyed their food and left satisfied. I'm glad I dined with them again.

Been here a few times before. Came for lunch today after a nice hike at Laguna Niguel and Monarch beach which is about 20min away. This is my second review for the same dining place, this time I took a bunch of pictures. I was first drawn to this place by its crab legs, but now I am fixated on its fresh sushi/sashimi bar and the yummy soupy clams! Looking at the small clam shell mountain sitting in front of me that I have created, I chuckled; sipping the same hot yummy clam soup broth, I felt recharged; the clams were fresh, tasty, and so delicious! I mush have finished one whole tray by myself! I started off by eating my salad which drew some criticism from my friend that I should skip the salad when at a buffet, but I love my veggies! The next plate comprised of mostly the stir fried and baked dishes. The black pepper beef was disappointing but the orange chicken was good; the beef ribs and the pork ribs were ok. If you have a sweet tooth, you will be satisfied with fresh fruits, jello, pastries, and the never ending ice cream! Our 9-year boy kept on going back and he even had one cone for the way home! Totally a kid pleaser! Empty plates were removed promptly, and the buffet dishes are monitored and refilled promptly as well! Overall, fresh ingredients, varieties of dishes to choose from, spacious dining room, reasonably priced ($27.99 for weekend lunch).

Easy parking at 5pm it wasn't busy greeted as we entered and seated. Comfortable and clean. We made our drink orders then went over to buffet area unbelievable selections. Super salads bar, fresh fruits, variety of seafood salads desserts cookies, puddings, apple pie, soft serve ice cream. A endless selection of entrees from mussels scallops, many scrimp varieties, ribs, chow meins, several different sushi rolls and fresh tuna, wasabi, ginger, sweet and sour cod, salmon, chicken, soups They even had pizza and French bread for the kids. I know I'm missing many. All entrees were hot and well prepared, friendly polite staff checked on us frequently $24.00 pp was well worth it. We'll be back.

I'm giving this place a 5 star just to boost their three star overall rating. Realistically, I would still rate this a 4 star in this 2025 economy. I was feeling hungry at lunch for something different this Thursday that's not the usual stuff around the office. So I decided to finally try this place that's been on my radar for years. Prices sure isn't what I remembered from when I first learned about this restaurant. It was $21.99 for weekday lunch (July 2025) with tax is was $23 and change plus tip...out the door I paid $27. As someone who has had plenty of Asian buffets growing up, I wasn't expecting much. I don't think anyone who walks into one of these places should ever expect much at this price point. It is just good (not great) food, a variety and a lots of it for a lower price than if you were to get it elsewhere. The decor was dated which I kind of liked for the nostalgia. It was relatively clean with a bit of wallpaper curling, but the tables and chair were all very clean. All the food was pretty good, they do charge for drinks. I'm always a sucker for mussels and clams and they tasted fresh here. There was also a large steamer of shumai which is one of my favorite dim sum items so I had like 8 of them, flavor was close to perfect, texture was authentic. The fried chicken wings were also great, very flavorful compared to the ones offered across the street at Sizzler's salad bar. The sushi rolls were alright, I had just one and decided not to waste stomach space with any more. Them keep them nice and cold but something was off with the roll, maybe not enough rice vinegar in the rice? I have no idea. The one thing I was really surprised at was their Pepper Steak. It reminded me of the French Style Beef dish in terms of color, sear and flavor, I can eat an entire plate of just that if I wasn't told to eat less red meat by my doctor All in all, $27 per person out the door, I would totally revisit when I'm feeling like eating a lot since I often end up eating a meal totaling $18+ these days any way.

Great choice of food and dessert. I recommend it totally for holiday nights and family dinners.

To the people who pay the same price as everyone else. Please have some respect with dining next to people. You are laughing and acting like the food is a joke. Okay? Then why are you spending your money to eat here. Just leave. I spent $25 to eat here not to hear you and your son blow their nose and laugh at me. Rude people who dine here and I won't come back. Bad experience.

The food here is pretty good. It's just a whole lot of food so it starts tasting so so. The Korean BBQ ribs, fried crab, eel, soups, fried chicken wings, baked oysters, and the mussels are my favorites. The catering prices are a great deal too. The service is not too friendly but very attentive. They come by often to clear plates. The restaurant is really big with two different sides and a back room. HAPPY AYCEING!!

Came by for an early lunch, around 11:30, before the lunch rush. Prepared food was fresh and looked like it was just put out. Starting with the sushi, my favorites were the salmon and avocado roll and the inari sushi. I also really loved the baked mussels and scallops, stir fry shrimp, and pork shao mai ( it would run out fast, but they were quick to refill). They seem to have a great chef, and excel in the classic Chinese dishes, like hot and sour soup, salt and pepper shrimp, shrimp stir fry, string green beans, but also offer Americanized Chinese classics like organic chicken and chow mein. They also offer American items like pizza, french fries and chicken wings. Favorite desserts are the red bean sesame ball, the cappuccino mousse cup and fresh fruit. Ambiance is not great, but food is fresh and delicious, with many options available. The only problem is I always leave with a food coma lol.

Food is good and lots of options given that it's $25 per adult, eat within your hearts fill. I only one pic bc we were busy pigging out, our family's go to after starving ourselves during outings On the way home.

That's what consider a good plate!

Good selection decent food. Went weekends so the selection was obviously the best, everything from ribs, beef, shrimp, sushi, fish, octopus, 3 soups, huge fruit and dessert selection. It did the job. They did get busy starting noon on Saturday so I was happy we went a little earlier than 12 or else we would have been waiting. Kids are $1.69 x age (3-10 yrs)

The restaurant wasn't busy and we were seated right away. The vibe inside was authentic feeling Japanese style, smallish with several tables and sushi bar seating. My chicken oyakodon was a bowl of cozy comfort to me. It was topped with two slices of yellow pickled daikon. I'm sure it was homemade daikon, not like what you get in a jar from Tokyo Central. We were served their delicious miso soup as a starter. My sister ordered beef teriyaki and tempura. She said it was good. The restaurant started filling up as we ate our meal. A good sign of good authentic Japanese is when you see a lot of Japanese/Asians filling up the place, especially older people (haha, like me), because you know they know well prepared authentic. And that's the crowd that was coming in. Located in a busy center with limited parking, it must get crazy busy later in the evening because the sign outside the entrance says where to form the line. Anyway, my oyakodon and miso soup was so good!

There are many sushi restaurants that focus on freshness without making customers uncomfortable, and this unfortunately is not one of them.

It took quite a while just to get water and place our order, even after asking the sushi chef (who was not happy to be asked). We ordered the cucumber salad, shrimp tempura, and soft shell crab to start. The cucumber salad was plain and lacked dressing, the tempura was decent, and the soft shell crab was tasty with a small side salad with sesame dressing that was actually the best part. For mains, we had two bento boxes -- one with chicken teriyaki and baked mussels, and the other with mackerel shioyaki and fried shrimp. The miso soup was solid, but the salad could've used more dressing. Overall, the food was okay, but the poor service really hurt the experience. Came here after playing softball nearby at the lake forest rec park because I wanted sushi,…read moresearched Yelp and this place is highly rated less than a mile away (3 minutes drive according to iPhone). Off we went. Parking was easy in a large strip mall. No hostess here - you are greeted by the 2 sushi chefs upon walking in to sit wherever you'd like. The picture menu is easy to order off of. There are 2 big screens in the room. Tonight they were playing the World Baseball Classic. Women's restroom was clean - check! You get complimentary edamame upon being seated. Just 1 server handling all orders at the time we came in - a nice Korean lady, who at times seemed oblivious ie cleaning empty tables instead of giving us our check at the end of the meal when it was very apparent we were done. lol I looked for something on the menu that has unagi AND salmon but no dice so opted for dragon roll. My other half ordered #8 (forgot the name but it was good though I preferred my dragon roll more) but all in all our rolls came out delicious. Looking around, this place appears to be both a local spot and date spot from a few couples in the room. At the end of our meal our server brought us 2 pieces compliments of the chef, who said it was yellowtail. They have a stamp card that yields 10% after 5 meals and 20% off after 10 meals. We now know where we'll go after our weekly softball games!

FYI -- no photos because we were busy with a cranky toddler. First, the service was genuinely great. The sweetest lady helped us with the menu and served our food, and we really appreciated her kindness. We were also given complimentary edamame, which was thoughtful, although it was bland, dry, and cold -- almost like it had been sitting in the fridge for a while. Since it was complimentary, we didn't think too much of it. For the mains, we ordered the beef teriyaki and chicken teriyaki bento specials. Unfortunately, both proteins were sliced extremely thin. The chicken especially had a jerky-like texture, and both the chicken and beef lacked flavor. After reading other reviews, they had similar experience. The teriyaki sauce itself was also pretty bland. The tempura was okay, but the tempura dipping sauce tasted watered down and lacked the usual savory depth you'd expect. The one standout was the roll topped with salmon and avocado with spicy tuna inside. It was presented beautifully and tasted fresh and well-balanced. Based on this, I honestly think rolls are what they do best. I really hope they improve the preparation and seasoning of the chicken and beef because it was a major turnoff -- and this is coming from someone who eats pretty much everything. It's hard to justify paying around $22 for a bento when the main protein feels flavorless and insubstantial. With so many good Japanese resto in Lake Forest, I would skip this until the proteins are fixed.

Nice place but be prepared to wait when going, almost at all times. Store is pretty small but cozy,…read morenice staff as well. As for the food, I understand why the line is long. It's definitely very good food and worth the wait once in a while. Food is always consistently good. Katsu has a really good breading on it and flavor as well. Sauce puts it over the top. Meals are also pretty big and well priced which really adds the chefs kiss for an already great meal stand alone. Would recommend!

Expectations may have been a bit high due to the popularity and good word about Hako, but I…read moreregularly am on the hunt for good Japanese katsu and curry, so have tried some pretty good katsu in my days. First off, it's a pretty great value. You get a set meal for a very good price these days, since the katsu meals come with their homemade katsu sauce (tastes like a slightly sweet and sour peanut satay), cabbage salad, rice, miso soup, and pickles. If you're looking for value only, this is great. Even the appetizers and sushi rolls are reasonable. I like that you can add on extra curry or some pieces of sushi or gyoza with your katsu or udon meal, and can add more than one. We saw a lot of takeout orders going out, though you don't get the soup. - Agedashi Tofu A light, popcorn crisp fry with sturdy cubes of tofu with enough dashi to cover them all. Respectable appetizer if you like tofu. All the pieces are very hot inside. - Hako Tonkatsu The pork cutlet is pounded so flat and enormous. I added a side of mild curry, which tasted like a good normal Japanese curry, and the additional gyoza were standard grocery filling (seemed to have more of a baked than fried texture on the skin). The nutty satay-like sauce went well with the katsu, but the curry was better. The rice was good and fluffy, and the pickles added an acidic balance. The miso soup was on the salty side. I liked how light and refreshing the cabbage salad was, though I prefer other dressings over this Thousand Island-like creamy one. The katsu itself was a bit disappointing, as it was devoid of moisture and the crisp could have been better. - Chicken Katsu The chicken was slightly better than the pork, as it retained a little more moisture and was just a bit more tender. However, all other aspects were the same. We tried the spicy curry for this plate, and it had the same taste as the regular curry, but with a bite. If you like pain more than taste when you eat spicy foods, I guess that'd be why you choose the spicy here. Considering it took nearly an hour for us to get a table on a random weekday night (seated close to 8pm), I definitely was expecting the food to taste much better. The tables are situated very close to each other, too, so you'll probably have a neighbor within your elbow space. It's not even a contender for a majority of katsu places in NorCal or Hawaii. But if you're in the area and have a craving and want a lot of food for the price, it's fine. If you have leftovers, they will give you an extra new side of their sauce, which is sweet.
