I finally had with this place! I feel sorry for the owners because the way its going it wont be long for this place to lose customers. The last couple of times i ordered to go, they messed up my tom yum. Today i actually decided to dine in and it took forever to get anything, food came out wrong not once but several times drinks not served or refilled manager on duty had a bad attitude, three tables actually complained the time we were there. This is the second time I've been to this restaurant. The food here is often very good. On this occasion I have the combination lunch special. I really enjoyed the pad thai. In fact it was probably the best pad thai that I have eaten in San Antonio. In addition if you have the chance to try the beef jerky it is delicious. The only thing I didn't really like about my meal was that it took over 30 minutes to get it. Try to avoid this place during lunch. The food was absolutely disgusting. So bad I couldn't even eat it. What a freaking waste of money. The appetizer was mostly burnt as you can see in the picture (House Delight). The Phad Thai was so spicy, I ordered medium spice but it had to be hot. It also had no flavor other than hot...the noodles were also like rubber and the lime was so discolored. Nothing too special. Gone downhill in quality since I was here many moons ago. My favorite was the pad wunsen...no more :( something had changed, and for the worst so I re-ordered the chicken salad with ginger chicken. Much better. Big portions, lacking flavor. For those reading this review that are looking for a diamond in a sea of coal for San Antonio Restaurants, look no further than Asian Kitchen. Asia Kitchen has been on my rotation for 25 years and remains as good as it gets. The only thing more authentic than the Tai and other Asian dishes they deliver is the owner and the wife ( I believe they are her Asian family recipes) who have since passed the keys to the kingdom to the their lovely daughter and enthusiastic wait staff. Good people, good energy, lotta love in their restaurant but I digress, you want to know about the food and not my sappy feelings for people that don't know me personally but assure you they would recognize me and my family in a heartbeat. Lets start with the Spring Rolls. Good-luck trying to have only one, they are that good. Keep in mind there are days when they are better than other days, as sometimes they are fried a little more than others but on their worse day they are 10X better than anything you can get elsewhere and be sure to lather up those octane charged Tai Sticks in that red suite sauce they keep in ample supply on the table. The dishes regardless of what you choose are always home made and the trick is to find one that plays to your culinary senses. For me, I have two dishes that are my "go too". The first is the yellow coconut curry, it should be criminal to serve something that delightfully delicious and addictive. The second and a huge surprise, is their Pho which is IMHO is the best in SA and most unseated noodle broth in the city, absolutely stellar.. I'm not a big fan of Asian cuisine, but I have to say the meal here was delicious. They specialize in Thai food, but have an additional menu of Chinese and one? Japanese dish. I chose the Yaki Soba combo (Chicken, Beef, and Pork) and boy was it good! Started off with some very fresh, very crispy spring rolls for an appetizer. I wanted to like this place, but I left feeling disappointed. My friends had decent things to say, and the menu online looked interesting and full of variety. When I arrived during a weekday lunch hour it was very busy and I even took note of their various awards, but it didn't live up to the hype. The lunch menu is significantly smaller than I thought it would be, so I was saddened by my limited choices. I certainly understand they're trying to offer quick, consistent items at this hour. Good thing-the prices are super cheap and the portions are large. The crispy spring rolls are pretty good, and I loved my white rice! Not too sticky. I had vegetables and chicken curry (yellow) combo plate. Vegetables were mostly bell peppers and onions, no broccoli or shrooms. The sauce was a typical brown sauce, sweet and a little slimy. The curry was not spicy, and the chicken was way too dry. I ate the potatoes and carrots. Worst part, super hot spots and obvious cold pieces. I'd bite into a cold veggie or potato every few bites or so :-( Damn microwave... The server took more than five minutes to greet us and was clearly rushed. I didn't mention the food, my boyfriend and I decided it was a lost cause. I may give Asia Kitchen another shot for dinner sometime, as I know the menu changes. Hummmm. Maybe the Chinese is good? Very friendly staff and very cheap lunch special, but the Thai was more like Chinese..... Granted, I got the daily special and did not order off the menu, but still..... If I have to got here again, I will order off of the Thai menu. I was impressed with all of the different menu options, but chose the special combo to try two dishes. One of my favorites, Pad Kee Mao, was disappointing. The yellow curry was bland. I don't see how this restaurant has such high reviews. The food is below average everything on the lunch menu is not made to order. It's buffet style and they scoop some up for the lunch rush. I've been here 3 times and the first time i went for lunch I wasn't 100% sure but the food looked and tasted like buffet food. The second time I went for lunch with a bunch of co-workers and one of them complained that her food was lukewarm and waitress said that "it's probably got cold on the buffet tray" she said she can pop it in the microwave. The chicken curry is the worst chicken curry more like boiled potatoes, carrots and chicken with a hint of curry and not even seasoned with salt. Absolutely disgusting. read more

I had high expectations when my relative said a Thai restaurant. But this turned out to be an Asian restaurant with various ethnic dishes from Asia. I'm used to Thai restaurants around Washington DC and Baltimore. This place was average. I got the chicken panang. It was ok but came out like a soup where I'm used to a little sauce. It had good flavor but was heavy on the cream and there were no vegetables. Definitely not what I am used to. My brother and father got the Kung pro chicken. To me it didn't have much flavor and very little heat. Not a bad place but not the best place either. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. By far the best experience I have written a yelp review about. First of all, the meals were extremely affordable. I also love that they give you such a wide range of spiciness (1-15). I had chicken Panang Curry at an 8 on the spice scale. It was so incredibly perfect. Just wonderful. And enough food for two meals, easily. The best part may have been the service. I couldn't believe how nice our waitress was. I wish I could remember her name. (We were there around 1pm on Sunday, Sept. 27th. She should definitely get some credit for wonderful service.) There were 5 of us at the table, and she was super prompt. She also brought us more rice to take home with our leftovers. I will definitely be stopping every time I am in San Antonio. read more

Decided to come here for lunch after we found out it was a pokestop but this review isn't about that. This review is strictly for lunch. We found out that all the lunch specials are premade and made into batches. Not exactly the most appealing thing to tell a customer. Even worse, the food came out not hot because they were probably just scooping from a large pot. The pad Thai was too sweet and too ketchupy. It is cheap (7.50) for the lunch special, but I'm in no hurry to come back here again. There are better places out there! read more

This has my favorite crab meat wonton omg the bomb here. Had yellow curry with fried tofu , this was perfectly spiced delicious . We just picked up our take out, just to throw it in the trash. Beef pepper steak, chicken lard na and egg rolls. Egg rolls were burnt, the beef pepper steak was over cooked or the meat was old they didn't pack our steam rice. The Lard Na noddles were not cook so the texture was not edible. Our first time trying the place, so it was upsetting that we didn't get to enjoy our dinner. And sorry didn't get a chance to post pictures. We were so upset it went in the trash. We eat here often for lunch as it's close to work. I'm a big fan of their pad thai chicken. Their representation is very very good! It's not the best in town, but if you are in this area, its worth a look. Our guest had the Hot Chinese beef with vegetables and he loved it. He's originally from India and the spices and heat were right on for him. We've not been here for supper in a long time so I can't comment on their regular menu, but the luncheon specials are very good and very reasonable. I found this place when I was looking for a good Asian restaurant in my area. I'll admit I fell in love. Food is great and portions are large. Most plates are almost enough to feed 2 people. However if you don't like spicy I would recommend going with the mild versions of the entrees. The wait staff will ask just to make sure you get what you prefer. Wonderful staff, great decor, and a nice atmosphere. I've only eaten in house once, but plan on a night out here with the hubby soon. I do order take out quit often, even though it's a bit pricier than say Panda Inn. So if you like mild to super spicy Thai and Chinese, then check this one out. Defiantly worth it! read more

Time to pay some homage. This is the first Thai place I ever ate with my family. My parents were friends with the owner, Patrick, because he also had a freight service where we could send packages to our family back in the mother country. When the owner would come to pick up our packages, we would place soup orders with him and it was like home delivery. As a matter of fact, we never even called this place "Asia Kitchen." We called it Sally's (the name of the chef). Lots of things have changed over time. They no longer have the freight service. They expanded the restaurant and closed down the market because it wasn't as profitable as the restaurant. That kind of sucked because I remember getting yan yans and doing some grocery shopping with my mom after we ate. For one thing, hands down, best pineapple fried rice (sweet variety). You get a good portion for a low price and you don't have to pick your meat - it comes with chicken, ham, and shrimp. If anything, you request what you don't want in it. Every time my family would come down with a collective case of the cold - we would go here to eat their Poh-Taek, perhaps the most awesome seafood soup ever made. Yes, this kicks the ass of the Tom Yum. This would always clear our sinuses and stuffy noses. In addition to the tons of seafood added into the soup, you can really taste all the herbs and spices added to the broth. From what I remember, galanga, lemon grass, and, I think, kefir lime leaves. For Sallys, there's nothing but good memories, good people, and good food. read more

This is a popular lunch spot for the people working at Lackland and with good reason. They have great food, good prices, and fast service. What more can you want for lunch? I like their ginger chicken, which is on the lunch menu (entree, tea and egg roll). Some of my lunch mates enjoy the beef salad, which isn't on the lunch menu but they don't mind. The food does sometimes seem to be a bit mass produced though, most things sort of taste similar and there's not much dynamics to the flavors.
