This restaurant has a great layout, with a bar, lots of table seating, and a prominent sushi bar. I was dining alone, so I didn't mind sitting at the bar. I had the pineapple fried rice. It was great- and quite a magnificent hill of steaming rice and pineapple with bits of shrimp, chicken, and cucumber tucked in. I had a total carb-out. My date orderdd a pad bai and it was very soggy and overcooked. He is usually my human garbage disposal as i am picky and he is not. He did not like this, it was very sweet as well. I had the Mongolian beef. It was deep fried then stir fried so it is crunchy. I really loved the texture but the flavor was off. It was so sweet and salty at the same time. Move over dear Leader, it is this restaurant that is #1 in the hearts and minds of the people! Hard to go wrong with real crab in the sushi, one roll came without whatever spicy sauce was represented by the spicy pepper icon next to the name in the menu, but hey, it was good and clean tasting. My haiku for sakura didn't hold up as far as structure goes, so I won't bother here, though Asian 1 is worth it. This place has a pretty good selection of different types of Asian food. This is the second time I've come here and I would come back. The first time we had a couple different appetizers, both were good. Chicken satay and spring rolls. We also had drinks.The second time we got meals. Swimming Rama and Phad Thai. Swimming Rama was really good. Phad Thai was good to except they don't give you an option for fresh or fried tofu. They just gave me the fried and I don't care for it much. We got water when we sat down and that was it for about 35 minutes!! we were busy talking at the table so we really didn't notice how long it was then finally someone comes to the table to the right from us gives them food or drinks and passes our table says nothing goes to the table to the left of us and asks how the food is after she starts to walk away at this point I kindly call her and say we are ready to order she tells us she will be right back and never comes I'm not sure if she was our waiter cause after the water came no one else came to talk to us about our food or anything all I saw was coworkers talking and laughing not doing their job just hanging around the bar so unprofessional do not recommend unless they get better staff! We walked out almost an hour after not getting helped by no one while I could see 4-5 employees doing nothing!! When we walked out the guy who sat us down didn't even say bye or anything horrible horrible experience!! Do better!! Mind you when we entered the restaurant that same guy in the front almost ran me and my baby over running trying to tell the people who just left "have a good day" like what!? I eat here 2-3 times a week, it's actually kind of embarrassing how often I do. I usually get take out, but have eaten in the restaurant 7-8 times. I've probably had take out about 30-40 times. Everything I've tried is excellent, and the service is always good, too. My favorite menu item here is the Pad See Ew. It's always cooked to perfection and very flavorful. I'm not sure what kind of tiny beans are in it, but I eat a lot of Pad See Ew and it usually doesn't have the delicious beans that Asian 1 does. I am a server here, and I think that the quality of the food served here is outstanding, and it will speak for itself. Everything is delivered and prepared fresh daily. I work at Asian1 and I love eating here as well. If you ask me I will tell you exactly what I like and I could go on and on because it's easy when the product sells it self. We have a crazy happy hour from 3 to 5 and 8 to close which is 25% off the whole bill. I mean that's just nuts. My favorite dish is pad tai and my new favorite sushi roll is the muay tai which is a tempura battered prawn rolled up topped with avocado, basil, and siracha with peanut sauce and sweet chilli to dip. The flavors are incredible together. We also have a new martini called the irish summer that I'm very fond of. Our staff is very helpful and accommodating to people's needs. After about 9 months of abstinence from Asian 1, my wife and I stopped in for dinner Monday evening. We were pleasantly surprised! Our last experience was miserable (see below). But we had a completely different experience on Monday. First of all, our server - Kelli - did a great job. She was attentive without being intrusive. And all of the other Asian 1 employees seems to be on top of things as well - there wasn't anyone standing around chatting, ignoring customers. Our appetizer - lettuce wraps with chicken - was great. And our entrees - Pineapple Fried Rice and Sweet & Sour Chicken - were amazing, too. Everything was tasty, and the pineapple fried rice was enough for an entire meal the next day! The food was ok. I got the phad kee mao and my husband got the phad thai and we got the chicken lettuce wraps to start. The lettuce wraps were bland and had been cooked with carrots and celery. It seemed more like shepherds pie filling than Thai food. Luckily the sauce they were served with and some hot chili paste helped this dish out. The phad kee mao was good. The noodles were nice and it was appropriately spicy (I ordered 2 stars). Definitely on the sweet side though. The phad thai was way too sweet and a little ketchupy. The worst part was the abundance of egg shells my husband pulled out if this dish. Luckily our server insisted the kitchen remake my husband's meal and she took it off the bill. read more

We almost didn't go due to previous low scores, until we realized most of them were older reviews that complained only of service (this is an issue in every single restaraunt in Skagit & Whatcom Co. - even the "classier" spots). The food is worth going for, and since they send out regular coupons and have happy hour (25% off) twice a day, cost should not be a complaint. I asked for a veggie dish with extra veggies and this is the first place in at least 5 years between Seattle & Bellingham to actually give me a heaping plate of veggies. The bowl of rice is plentiful, and really, for $1... I don't see a reason for complaint there. The ability to do gluten free/sugar free on most of the menu is a huge plus (even though I didn't partake) and they offer coconut milk in lieu of reg. milk in most the drinks I noticed. Service? Was a little iffy, but again, we've gotten used to it since moving north a few years ago - the only restaraunt to manage great service has been Mestizo's in S.Woolley. (the ONLY place out of 30 or 40 in 2 counties) So if you want some good asian food, and don't mind slow service, head on over. read more
