    Horrible tasting food

Time to box this place up and put it on the shelf. I'm really struggling with Asian Box because it had so much potential. I like the IDEA of their menu, it's just that their food isn't good, and the service here is lacking. I've been here multiple times trying to support their business and everything from their very dry sitting out and not fresh since it's been sitting out for hours "fresh" rolls with peanut sauce is always dissapointing. Just think about the rice paper drying and shriveling up until it becomes hard and chewy. That was my last visit with their dry salmon rice bowl. This time was the incredibly awful chicken pho. The watery broth, gross dry chicken with no flavor and noodles that you can get via a package at ANY Asian market and here you go for like $20 after tax and tip. Yup, this place will not be in business long if this continues.

Hmm.... Hmm.....,., I've been here five years ago, and it was good. Even taking a look at the pictures from five to eight years ago, it looked much better. But I just returned recently because I remembered that it was really good. But I was a bit disappointed. Perhaps I tried the wrong item, and the seasonal Fall special item looked good. But what we got was a bit small and underwhelming. The pickled vegetables were really good and were the best part!

    Really delicious

It's really delicious and the staff is friendly, I recommend it , I leave you the photo of the workout, it's my favorite box The atmosphere is comfortable and pleasant

Salmon Salad & The Garden Box

This restaurant was surprisingly good and the service was amazing! My boyfriend and I decided to eat here after trying a generous sample of their Vietnamese Hot Chicken. The sample came with a generous amount of chicken and rice. Although, we opted to try different entrees for lunch, the Vietnamese Hot Chicken was hot and spicy, fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. What I like about their menu is not only do they offer meat options, the menu is also vegetarian/vegan friendly. You can choose to create your own box or choose from one of the many great signature boxes. Our lunch consisted of: * Salmon Salad - came with roasted lemongrass salmon, salad greens, pickled veggies, herbs, and a delicious ginger soy vinaigrette. This order took a little longer because of the salmon being cooked, I didn't mind the wait at all. This salad was delicious! It paired nicely with the dressing and picked veggies. * The Garden Box - came with organic tofu, yellow curry, broccoli, pickled veggies and brown rice. My boyfriend loved this dish! It was light and flavorful, and just enough protein from the tofu! * Lemonade and a Rice Lager which were both refreshing! * Shrimp Fresh Roll (not pictured) - it was light, had a nice bite from the veggies and came with a delicious peanut sauce on the side. The restaurant is moderately quiet with plenty of indoor seating, and is overall clean! Hospitality was top tier! We will definitely be back again and looking forward to trying more dishes!

Completely gluten free? YES!! This celiac girl is so happy! Menu changes a little seasonally, but there are some items that remain on the menu. Everything I've had has been great (and safe). I've been here and one other location - this is the closest to home - I wish there was one closer to Pacifica. It's great that they also have an airport (SFO) location for gluten free travelers.

    - one of the worst banh mi I've had. Bread was very oddly dry; I could barely swallow it. Meat was chewy. Much better banh mi next door at Cherimoya, or even better at The Original Royal Donut (yes, banh mi at donut place). I believe the normal box meals are much better + staff was friendly + Location is good and has outdoor seating

First timer and it wasn't bad. The food was fresh. Portion size is very good. Lots of bean sprouts but My kids didn't mind. The sauces were delicious. I love that there's an option for everyone. It is located in downtown Burlingame so parking can be a hit or miss depending on the time of day. It's never too busy inside the restaurant but don't let that fool you, the food is good.

salmon salad and Vietnamese iced coffee
    Angel L.

The salmon salad was okay. The sauce was savory, tangy, and sweet, which paired nicely with the fish. The Vietnamese iced coffee had a strange rubbing alcohol taste, and there were some alarming hard chunks (beans?) at the bottom of the cup.

They have a lot of the same dishes you see at American 'Chinese' restaurants but it was cooked and spiced so well as to put it in a completely different category. I visited on a Friday night with my older parents. We were seated after just a few minutes, and the hostess was very courteous with updates. The coconut chicken soup was amazing, very creamy! Rainbow chicken was also very savory. I'd highly recommend the House Special Noodle. Noodles seemed to melt in your mouth, for lack of a better phrase. Just delicious. The staff and even the customers really went above and beyond in terms of courtesy and politeness, too. My mom had recently had a major surgery that required her to use a walker. Everyone was very helpful and kind.

I have absolutely no issue with tipping. What I have an issue with is quietly adding gratuity to a three-person lunch bill without clearly telling the customer. Had I not carefully reviewed the bill, it would have been very easy to add another tip on top of the gratuity already charged. What makes this even stranger is that I have dined here with my husband before and this never happened. This time, without him, gratuity was added automatically. I don't know why we were treated differently, and I won't speculate about the reason--but the inconsistency made me extremely uncomfortable. If automatic gratuity for a party of three is Mingalaba's standard policy, it should be clearly disclosed and consistently applied. If it isn't, then I think customers deserve an explanation for why it was added to our bill. Ladies, especially--check your bill before you tip.

Both locations were very good, the San Jose one had a bigger menu though (both food and drinks) and it gave free soft serve in mini cones for dessert! I ordered some of the same dishes at both locations (two different sets of friends at each location), but the staples were the sauerkraut fish soup, garlic greens, cucumber salad and truffle fried rice! The restaurant had a very nice environment to it. The service was fine. Our waiter was very nice but the hostess was OK but she definitely did not want to be there. After being seated, we ordered. The ordering style felt like a dim sum spot but that's fine. We ordered the Chongqing chicken, cucumber salad garlic greens and mushroom fried rice. The food was fantastic! The cucumber salad was the only one that we felt was OK but it tasted really good combined with the peanuts in it. The chicken was a different, tastier version of the dish but it was very tasty and was very enjoyable. The veggies were great and tasty, your standard veggies. However, the mushroom fried rice was amazing. I believe it's one of their newer items. That dish alone made the place worth it. I think it's really more of a 4.5/5 but leaning closer to a 5 because of the food. Probably would've been nicer if all the staff were as nice as our waiter, it'd be more of a 5. We'll definitely be back again.

The first thing I noticed was that there was really not many pieces of ribs, maybe they made the ribs portion smaller to make room for the lap cheung I ordered? The dish description also says that it includes taro, but I didn't have a single piece of taro in my pot. Strangely, although this place seems to share a kitchen with Social Eatery, the rice was cooked much more poorly here, which is obviously a shame for a place specializing in clay pot rice. It seems like the rice had too much water added, so it was a bit overcooked - you couldn't feel the "single grain" mouthfeel texture you should expect from well-cooked, high quality rice. Since the rice was too mushy, it obviously didn't crisp well either. Though it had some small amount of bits stuck to the edges of the metal (not clay!) pot, it was definitely not the super crispy, well browned "faan ziu" I expect, and not at all like the pictures featured in some earlier reviews of this restaurant.

I also appreciate how thoughtfully they pack their claypot meals to go, which used to make ordering delivery feel like a safe bet. Unfortunately, the quality has really fallen off. The first few times I ordered, the bowls were packed with flavor and protein. This most recent delivery was a huge disappointment where the food had a laughably small amount of meat and mostly dry, bland rice. For what they charge, it felt like a total rip-off. Sad to see such a solid spot become so hit-or-miss, because the claypots used to be genuinely great.
