We have a Hawaii trip coming up and I've been craving plate lunches and I've eaten here twice this week lol I ordered the mini chicken katsu, mini kalbi regular bbq chicken, and regular bbq beef, and enjoyed every bite of them all. I think if I had to rank them though, the chicken katsu takes the top spot, followed by the bbq chicken, kalbi, and bbq beef. What I love about L&L is that the value is still there. $15 for a regular, $12 for small and it comes with so much food. Definitely opt for the regular plate and turn it into two meals. Something I'm going to start doing is asking for two scoops of mac and 1 scoop of rice because even though their mac salad is simple, I can't get enough of it. I end up putting some hot sauce on it and I could eat that everyday. The turnaround time for orders is pretty quick, usually less than 10 minutes, which makes it a good option for a quick yet filling meal. Definitely will be back, just wish they put the roast pork back on the menu because that was my favorite menu item of all time! read more

I've been coming to this L&L for years and will even drive out of my way specifically to order at this location even if another location is closer to me. In general I also do prefer L&L over other Hawaiian BBQ franchises such as Ono and Ohana since L&L generally gives bigger portions and doesn't skimp out on meat servings by putting a thick bed of cabbage underneath the meat. Parking can be hit or miss in the plaza but parking is usually available on the street. The restaurant is small with a few tables and chairs inside as well as right outside the restaurant. I usually order ahead for takeout and am always quoted a ten minute wait; this location always has food ready by its promised time! The ladies at the register are very nice as well. On my most recent visit I ordered a regular chicken cutlet with gravy (with brown rice). This location has the option of choosing brown rice instead of white rice with no additional charge. Usually the gravy is poured over the chicken cutlet but you can request the gravy on the side if you want. As expected, I had a huge portion of chicken and the regular plate could serve at least two meals. After a 15 minute drive, the chicken still had a nice crunch even with the gravy on top. The huge portion sizes and great customer service keep me coming back to the Millbrae L&L location. Aside from ordering takeout, I've also ordered party trays in the past; I was able to order party trays for pickup the next day with no problems. If the long In-N-Out line scares you away you can always go to L&L! read more

Stopped by here and ordered two bbq chicken meals. They were super good! The staff were friendly and the place was very clean. They provided small bowels for us because I was sharing with my kids which I found thoughtful. Again the food tasted great! This L&L is odd. They don't have my favorite dressing with edaname on the salad and their portions are super small. Garlic shrimp: basically shrimp with shells tosses in garlic, about 6 of them. Salad was fresh but the dressing is cheaper than the dollar tree. The brown rice is horrible. The BBQ short rib is super dry and only 2 pieces. The Mac was watery and the rice was meh. Do NOT get the coconut pudding. It was super small, the size of the dressing practically and NO flavor. Waste of money. Won't be coming back. read more

I love L&L Hawaiian Barbecue restaurants! Been going since 1989 when I lived in Hawaii for graduate school. When they started opening up here on The Mainland, I was overjoyed! This particular L&L is a nice spot for me whenever I take my car in at the service center just down the road. The restaurant itself is pretty small, with a couple rows of tables inside. There are a few outside tables available if the weather's nice enough. I usually get the Mini BBQ Chicken Plate (same thing I've been ordering since Hawaiian days!) and a soda, and I'm happy as a clam AND I don't need to eat anything for the next two meals, heheh! :-) Just writing this review makes me want to check my car's maintenance schedule to see when I can be down here next! Of course, there's always the L&L in San Bruno which is closer to me, but I do like this little tradition. read more

Homecooking with fast food convenience, I love L&L. However, would not recommend unless you have time to wait. I ordered ahead, came when they said the food would be ready, and still waited another 15 minutes. In fact, looking at everyone that was waiting for me and arriving after me, it looks like they started cooking only when I walked in the door to pay. The teriyaki sauce that you pay for extra is watered down. I came here craving Hawaiian food, the place was busy so I assumed it would be good. They have a sign that says extra sauce 25 cents, i assumed it was legit sauce and asked for 5 extra packs. Once I opened my meal bag, I noticed that the sauce was watered down. It wasn't sticky or same consistency as other teriyaki sauces I've had at other locations. Even when poured. The sauce didn't taste the same. Defintely won't return for this. read more

So I was a little disappointed when we showed up at 8::25 and were told that the grill was closed because they close at 8:30. So we couldn't get a loco moco, only chicken katsu. Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, we've had takeout from this location at least once a month. It's inexpensive, can be healthy and tastes great. Some of the items we have are: Seafood mixed plate; lighter bbq chicken (green salad instead of Mac salad and brown rice in place of white rice); bbq mix plate; Kalbi plate (very high calorie!) We always call in advance and pick-up. When COVID started, the parking lot was a zoo. Now, it's not crowded if you enter on the side street. Portions are very generous and service is quick. Also, unlike many other take-out places, they never mess up your order. I still remember the time our $25 tandoori chicken was missing from a very popular Burlingame Indian restaurant that was delivered by GrubHub. I went to L&L in Honolulu back in the early 1980s. But I forgot the name. I've been going to Hawaiian/Polynesian/Asian restaurants, food trucks, and Deli's since. As long as I can get my Katsu fix. I'm good. A family environment here. The food is pretty fresh, it's crispy hot, not refried, not salty, perfectly cooked, golden fried deliciousness. I'm very thankful there's my Idland food in different cities spattered throughout California. I'll come back here just for this. This location is near the SFO Airport. Perfect to grab a box right before a big trip. Bart accessible. It's a short walk across the street from the Caltrain Bart station junction. No excuses. They serve Hawaiian Sun sugary beverages as well, in cans! I can not tell you how scrumptious their food is. The recipe has not changed over the last 40 years. I've been coming here. Tell a friend. Open a business. L&L is my place to go. Prices are fair. Portions are HEAVY, hello, these are family portions. The rice is perfect. Always. The Macaroni Salad is to just die for. Great option for a quick lunch or takeout! The portions are big and the price is nice. I really enjoy Hawaiian BBQ, but tend not to go for it too often since the combination of rice + mac salad (which I cannot resist) leaves me feeling bloated after the meal. This last time, my husband and I ordered the Kalbi plate and the Chicken Katsu side salad since I wanted more greens. We were pleasantly surprised at the size of the side salad! Will definitely come back and order this combo again. The parking lot is decently large, but can get pretty busy since In-N-Out is in the same lot. This is my go to place when craving Hawaiian food. I'll take the extra drive of 15-20 minutes. For some reason this location, has more choices, the food just tastes better, and doesn't hurt our tummies. Staff that works here say, "Aloha" and actually mean not like when other places staff just look up and say , "Welcome in" because they have to. I was 'ono' for some Chicken Katsu, so we walked over to L&L in Millbrae. It was absolutely fantastic! Better than any L&L in Hawaii. Perfectly fried, tender, juicy and so much I had the leftovers for breakfast the next day. Chicken Katsu lately in Honolulu L&L's are overcooked, dry and chewy. While waiting for takeout from next door, I decided to get some lunch for my son from here and went with a Spam masubi and a bbq chicken masubi. The pricing here is VERY affordable and they have an extensive menu of Hawaiian food. This place is also very popular as there was constantly someone in line to order or wait for their food on a Saturday morning around 11.30am. Based on the photos I have seen of the meat plates, you get a lot of food for the money. The service and restaurant interior is no frills which is fine for a casual place like this. My son loved the masubis and I had some and I found they were delicious. I will need to come back again in the future to try their other plates.
