It was quick and the food was good. The drive thru was a true drive thru we just paid and the food was there.

Every Chinese place makes their food a little different. I get that. But at least stick to your menu descriptions. Kung Pao Chicken - supposed to be cubes. Every place I have ever had Kung Pao chicken has made it with big bite sized "cubes" - see the menu description. It's been in a thick spicy sauce. I love this dish when made that way. This version, while tasty, was nothing like that. It was tiny, almost shredded chicken, with a very runny broth like sauce. I have never eaten Kung Pao with a spoon until now. Rating: 7 of 10. It was spicy, had a nice flavor and I got three decent portions from the order. Fried rice - Don't call this fried rice. Fried rice has peas, onions and egg and carrots and is fried. In a pan. This was once white rice that someone added a little soy sauce to. Serviceable as a bed for the entree. Rating: 5 of 10 Green chile egg roll - Very thin, very overcooked, no green chile flavor...pass. Rating: 2 of 10 Sweet & sour pork - Lordy. Tiny overcooked balls of chicken. They wanted the sauce to be sweet but...no. Rating: 5 of 10 Chicken chow mein - Lots of cabbage. No onion, garlic, celery, mushrooms. Just cabbage and very little chicken. Rating: 5 of 10 No sweet and sour soup on the menu. That's a "go to must have" for us whenever we have Chinese. Ugh. Look this is serviceable Chinese. Nothing was bad. But nothing was super memorable. We'll try some other menu items and get back with you. read more

Very good I ordered the Chung pao chicken it was great! My wife ordered the sweet sour chicken with fried rice so goo! Only complaint they were stingy with the fried rice! Small portions. read more

We been living in the area for about 4 years and have never tried this restaurant. Our experience was actually better than we expected. Four of us went to the Chinese Kitchen today for lunch. We tried 4 different entrees and all of them were very good. Service was very good. I'm sure that we will be back again. read more

I've tried this place a few times to give it a fair shot but I think I went for the last time today. The first time, it was like the dollar scoop places. The sweet and sour chicken was bland and cheap tasting with overly sweet sauce. The next time, I only got egg drop soup which was good but the girl who took my order over the phone was RUDE. Didn't give me a total or tell me how long it would be, just said ok and hung up on me. I called back to ask for that info and she snapped it out at me, then said ok bye and hung up on me again. This final time today, I ordered lo mein and Mongolian beef. The lo mein is made with thin rice noodles and the veggies and beef were just put on top of them instead of being mixed in. The noodles don't have any real flavor. the Mongolian beef... is not Mongolian beef at all. It's 50% white onions and 50% beef in a RED chili pepper sauce. It's just not Mongolian beef at all. The only nice thing I can say is that the younger man who cashes out orders is very nice. Unfortunately I'll be continuing on in my search of decent Chinese food in Cruces. read more

Nope. This is not the place for good, or even passable, Chinese food. On the cautious recommendation from a friend, I got take-out. The wontons in the soup were mushy, as if they'd been sitting in liquid for days. The broth had no flavor. The Sesame Chicken, a staple of most Chinese restaurants, consisted of chicken pieces fried with some sort of coating, with some sesame sauce served on the side. The Beef with Plum sauce had some fresh veggies, but the meat was mushy. And I could not distinguish a plum sauce flavor. Face it, Las Cruces does not have an authentic, good, fresh Chinese restaurant. This certainly is not it. read more

16 Red Hat ladies had lunch. Service was very good for number we had and staff available. Rest of restaurant was packed. Food excellent, thermally hot as needed. Only one complaint for one meal that person thought meat tasted "off". Others with same meal liked it. Sesame chicken right amount of spice, tender. Chicken and vegetables yummy. Terrible service only 2 servers at a busy time. Had plate sent back ordered something different reorder took about 20 minutes to get. Server never came back to check on us not even to top off our drinks or to see how our food was. Used to love coming here don't think I'll be back. read more

SOME GOOD AND SOME NOT SO GOOD CHINESE CUISINE Yelp readers, do you really think you can take all the five star reviews of this place seriously? I thought not. On the other hand, it is not as bad as some would have you believe. Want some balance in your life? The Chinese Kitchen is a smallish, very casual, seat yourself kind of place. There is ample light inside and approximately fifteen tables with not so comfortable metal chairs. On a recent visit the salt and pepper shakers and soy sauce bottles seemed to be kind of sticky. The kitchen appears clean and orderly. This is not a restaurant for fine dining or a special occasion to say the least, but it is ok for very casual lunches and dinners. If you want a spiffy ambiance you had better go somewhere else. During the times I've visited the service has been performed by two women who did an ok job but never followed up with me. The older Oriental woman (may be the owner/manager) did not seem as engaging or pleasant as the Hispanic woman. The service overall is just sort of basic....nothing engaging or professional. The menu is large as with most Chinese restaurants. The lunch prices are very reasonable....actually a good deal. Regarding the food, I've had differing experiences. I ordered beef in plum sauce and it was cooked very well. Presented in a silver dish it arrived at my table within five minutes. The portions were large considering the price. The fried rice was ordinary....nothing special. The beef in the plum sauce was delicious and the vegetables accompanying it were done perfectly. On a second visit I made a big mistake by ordering a combo sweet-n-sour pork and shrimp meal. There were no vegetables and the batter covering the pork and the shrimp was so thick it was eating a cake donut. You could hardly find the pork or shrimp. The sauce was not very good. BIG FAIL. On another visit I ordered the chicken in plum sauce which had a nice flavor and the right amount of heat. But, it had precious little chicken and what there was was not impressive. Like a lot of the meals served here it had a ton of onions on the plate....most left unconsumed. This was a quite mediocre meal. Most recently I ordered their KUNG PAO SHRIMP with fried rice. For $7.42 with tax this was an amazing deal. The portions were fairly large. The fried rice was undistinguished....quite plain. The shrimp were plentiful, medium in size and ok in flavor. There was a mass of finely diced vegetables which were cooked properly, not limp and overdone. The overall flavor of the dish was subtle and hardly spicy. This meal was not bad but not top drawer. I would not be unhappy if I had to eat it again, but I would not search it out. It was just fair to middling. What to expect if you go: A small, casual place to dine...not so thrilling an atmosphere, just run-of-the-mill basic service, a large menu with good prices, and food that varies in quality. Most of it is quite average. Restaurant rating = THREE-AND-A-QUARTER STARS....meaning, very pedestrian. A just so-so dining experience. Nothing special. read more

I have been to this restaurant several times over the last few year. Iv'e always found the employees are not friendly and never smile. Atmosphere leaves little to be desired. I only went back because of the food which was usually tasty but, small portions. Today I ordered Beef and Brocoli with fried chinese rice, won ton soup. I was so disappointed with this meal. I don't know what they use for beef but it was stringy. Hardly any flavor, rice was bland, won ton soup was like tinted water with mushy won ton with 1 very small piece of pork in it. I threw it out. A 3 yr. old could make better. It seems they don't care whether you come there or not. Surely they could appreciate the customers they do have and be more congenial and give better food. After my visit to Chinese Kitchen I can honestly say it is one of the worst Chinese restaurants I have ever been to. The breading on the fried dishes was far too heavy and if you ask them not to put MSG in the dish it comes out incredibly bland. The worst part of the meal was the quality of meat they use. Hands-down, the worst Chinese fast food I've ever eaten. I will eat asian at least once every two weeks and this place should be shut down! I am shocked how poorly their food taste, the quality of ingrediants, etc. As for the portion size, it doesn't matter how much they give you because it's not worth it. The Kung Pao was nasty, without flavor, the egg rolls were freezer burned and un-cooked, the sweet and sour sauce was cold and lumpy (yuck), and the ambiance was cold, like a garage. Stopped in for a quick lunch, good prices for the proportions of food. I had the beef & broccoli with fried rice. It was good, the beef was a little soggy. Read some reviews about this place online so went to check it out. It is a boxy room with some tables and chairs...which could be promising...real dive-like. But the food was nothing special. Thawed vegetables and chunks of meat in MSG-heavy sauce. It's not as bad as fast food, but if you're from any kind of city with an Asian influence, it's not good either. read more

This is my favorite Chinese Food place in Las Cruces. I've been eating here for years now and have never been dissatisfied. Sure the restaurant isn't fancy looking but they make up for it with friendly service, little wait time, and pricing which is extremely affordable. I always get the Sweet and sour chicken combo special which is a large portion for one person. Only issue I have ever had is that they aren't open on weekends. read more

As I am writing this review I am still feeling sick (Like I am trying to give birth to a Chinese food baby). I have driven by here numerous times and every time most of the tables were filled with customers. Obviously, you can not take this to be a good sign and I feel bad for the other people who will experience my pain in the stomach from the use of MSG. My wife and I ordered simple dishes such as the won ton soup, Mongolian beef, and sesame chicken. We wanted to play it safe like we always do with a new restaurant. Everything was flavorless and bland. I don't know how they managed to take flavor out of Chinese food. The won tons tasted like they were freshly prepared, but they lacked any stuffing inside. The main dishes...well, we barely finished 1/2 of them and then didn't take any of the food leftover. That can explain the quality and taste. To boot...My wife and I both still have this gut bomb, Chinese food baby sitting in our stomach waiting to digest 14 hours later. Save yourself the trouble and pain.
