This market now called Quezada Market, mainly Latino foods for their huge base but what I noticed was a fried chicken sign and Novato being without, I wandered in, got the 2 piece for 6$ - wasn't expecting much, so surprise surprise it was delicious with a honey biscuit. I'm not sure why this place has a few negative reviews, sometimes one visit isn't enough for a review? Anyway the Novato Market or Quezada market is a great market. It has most everything you would find in a traditional Mercado and the al pastor slaps. I've been coming here for about eight years to get quick fixings for the grill or for a burrito to go. They have a largish deli with meats, all laid out well and priced right. This isn't $15 Whole Foods fajitas de pollo for real, it's delish and about $5 a pound. Their hot menu is great too, try the torta or the burrito, they griddle them and they are so good. When you walk in the clerks are right there and if you can't find something they will help. They also have Mexican candies you cannot find at other places. SPONCH if you know it you know it. They have fresh tortillas and a case for conchas y pan. I'm so happy to have a fresh and local market like this in Novato and I am happy they are here. Free parking in the lot out front. It can get busy on the weekends since they share the lot with O'Reilly and the nursery. Plan accordingly. read more

Not sure why this place has poor ratings it's a great place for tacos and light grocery shopping. I wouldn't shop here for the week because they only carry maybe 6 types of produce items most days. This place is for the meats, Mexican brands and some Latin spices. They don't even have 20oz bottle waters so the place saids it all by looking wth first cooler when you walk in. This place does a good job with the Mexican necessities. We like to pick up Jose's Doritos and get the pico de Gallo for a snack. They also have tortillas and a prepared food section. I think they could spruce the place up a bit. They seem to do a good business and have the neighborhood covered with the small necessities for Mexican cooking. Therefore they could invest in a little touch up imo. If you want to buy more local and want to make sure a store has what you need for south of the border dishes, Novato market provides a decent resource. read more

I was so happy to find this Mexican market with fresh food. I had two chicken floutas and a Carnitas Taco. Both were fantastic! There were a fabulous amount of spices, produce, and fresh meats behind the counter. They had a front area with beer and drinks. I was in the far back getting the good stuff from behind a counter. The woman preparing our food took great pride in her job. I saw some really yummy looking soups leave. The menu is limited. Which, is fine with me. The cheese selection was good. They had fresh Salvadorian Cornbread at the front check out. I was very pleased with the quality of my lunch for under $10. Wonderful place in Novato. read more

I'm so disappointed with the dishonesty. I've been going to this little market for many years and I purchased four canned goods. One of the cans was expired so I tried to return it and the lady was defensive and told me that it wasn't from that store. I know it was although I lost my receipt because that's the only store I go to for these types of goods. I don't like to argue with anyone, so the only thing I'll do is never shop there again. They lost a good, old customer for a couple of bucks...not very smart. So I went and spent my money at Rojas market downtown and of course I learned my lesson and checked the exp dates-all good there. read more

I just went in to this place for the first time, though I've lived nearby for years. Someone recommended it for takeout so I got dinner there this evening. It was very good and surprisingly inexpensive. The store is clean, the folks working there are pleasant, and the food was delicious. I wandered around the small store while waiting for my dinner to be prepared. It seemed well stocked and the produce appeared to be fresh and reasonably priced. What a nice surprise. read more

Very disappointed with the take out. First time ordering from Quezada Market The food is not very good. You pay first than you order , last turn in ticket to pick up food. The cook asked for receipt I handed it to her she put it with other receipts. When my food was ready she demanded the receipt which I had already given to her, she denied it yelled at my daughter than at me. After a heated exchange she looked for the receipt and found it. At home when I opened my take out container I noticed I did not get everything I ordered. Called store to notify them and an hour later got lol of my food. I do not recommend this store, I'm disappointed with the poor service, lack of respect and the food quality. read more

Excellent Tamales! You order the tamales at the front counter, they keep them in a rice warmer there. Always have tasted fresh, and never dried out. This is a "specialty" grocery/deli local chain. The have a meat case in back and also make food to order (burritos/tacos/etc). We've just had the tamales and have purchased some of their marinated carne asada. read more

I love this neighborhood market for burritos and beans! Also the spices found no where else. And there is always an unexpected treat at the check out stand such as pork tamales or a sweet cake from Central America. The staff mostly speak Spanish so be patient. read more

The meat market is super clean and they get great turn-over, so it's fresh, fresh, fresh. Chicken, shrimp, pork...get it here. You won't see all the Gringo cuts you're used to, but the basics are here. Produce selection is limited as well, but the prices can't be beat. When was the last time you saw Fuji apples at under $1 per pound? Well, here you'll get them for 80-cents per pound, about 1/2 of Safeway's price. Great selection of Latino sundries. The staff is very Hispanic, but they all speak passable to good English, so you'll be fine. read more

I used to go here all the time, easy, nearby my home and priced decently. After last night I will never return. My family and I ordered numerous things which were just thrown in to go boxes. I had a burrito "with everything" literally was just old rice and old carne asada. Well was fine until about 3 hours later when I started getting sick, here we are over 12 hours later and cannot stop having horrific bowel movements. Worst experience and food I've had at any Mexican food place. A nice little market, now known as Novato Market. People are friendly and helpful (they are even helping me with my most heinous Spanish, lol). The name change seems related new ownership and I've watched this market change over the past year with the addition of new refrigeration units, updated equipment through out. It seems to be a work in progress and I am happy to see this. I mostly search here for items not available elsewhere, and for convenience. Prices are very reasonable (forget Safeway, whole foods etc). While small, the market carries a good variety of items. Best of all are the carneceria and taqueria. The taqueria is excellent, reasonable, with large quantities of good food. There's outdoor seating for those pleasant days and evenings. read more

Compared to Azteca or Mi Pueblo, this place is garbage. Sorry, but I'm kinda pissed. Their pupusas were terrible- obviously not fresh, lukewarm, and they didn't add the standard spicy coleslaw that normally comes with pupusas. I also bought some chips and beer. The chips were completely stale and the beer was not only flat, it expired a month ago! Do you know how long beer has to be on the shelf before it expires? You kidding me? Best Meximart in Kali.......moved here from LA, where similar stores are dirty, poorly run, with no pricing signs, so you never know what you are gonna pay. Quezada has a great staff, is very clean, and well run. The veggies/fruits are the best around.....and at half the price of Safeway/Lucky. One time only they didn't honor the listed price for an item, may have been a bad worker, never saw her again. Prepped food is average to good depending on what you order. If you drink tequilla, they have the cheapest and largest limes for a good price......10 for $1.- summer......5 - 7 for $1.- winter.......Whole Paycheck (Whole Foods would be $1.- per lime!!!). read more

I love these specialty mexican food stores. They are usually great and you can find things that you just cant find in normal stores. I go to this market all the time to buy grub and also support the small stores that are getting torn down by the Safeways and Trader Joe's. They have plenty for a mexican meal. If you are trying to find stuff for an authentic mexican meal, go here. You can also order food here as well. They prepare it in the back but you order up front. Sometimes the communciation can be bad and I once was charged liked $8.00 more for an enchilada meal because the woman at the counter misunderstood what I had ordered in the back. That's why I would not give this a 5 because they really need to get a register in the back so you can pay and order at the same place. Just be careful and make sure you dont pay more than you need to but its great other than that small issue. read more

Is there a spanish word for "boo ya!" This place is awesome. Novato should have more mexi-marts (as I call them) like this. We recently move from Florida and have yet to find a place with all the spanish items we require for our meals. Just don't get the Bimbo (yea its real) loaf of bread unless you plan on using it all within a day or two, its mostly found in southern Texas and Mexico, must take a while to get to Norcal. read more
