Asian Snack is not your typical restaurant. It's located inside the market, and has few seats and a small menu. However, it is one of the most authentic Chinese spots I've been to in Indianapolis. There are so many menu items here that you will not be able to find at your typical Chinese restaurant, and all of them made me reminisce my summers eating street food in China! Items to note are the 煎饼果子 (Chinese Breakfast) and 红烧牛肉面 (Beef Noodle). We also got the 辣子鸡 (Spicy Chicken) and 鱼香茄子 (Eggplant with Spicy Garlic Sauce). So delicious! Again, it's not the most pristine, nice or clean sit-down place (which is why it's docked 1 Star) but given the quality of the food and options, I will definitely be back. Pro tip: Bring a friend who can read Chinese and knows their way around real Chinese food! read more

Right inside the entrance of Saraga (really to the left once you enter the front entrance) is an amazing Chinese food stand, pumping out authentic foodstuffs. It is excellent for a chive or beef pancake, potstickers, or pork buns to take on the go or during your shopping trip. However, they offer larger entrees like noodles and rice dishes. There are three small tables for dine-in that are frequently filled at peak times, but all their food items travel well for take out. The staff is super friendly and will help with any questions you may have. An awesome place to explore a real Chinese menu. Of note, they do accept credit cards if your order is over $6. read more

超正宗！I am a very frequent customer here. Always come here after some shopping at Saraga. This is probably the best authentic Chinese food within 10 miles. The price is really cheap for the huge portion. They also have very Chinese dishes not like orange chicken but 煎饼果子，凉面，rou ji. The dishes usually don't look that great in picture but taste really really good. The owner is also super friendly. They are very chill and never try to force any sell on you. They let you take your time picking and give you a huge bowl of rice and are truly happy when you enjoy their food. Do note that they close on Tuesday! read more

This is nothing more than a counter inside Saraga. But don't let that deter you. The portions are huge and delicious. And the prices are dirt cheap. Eat in at one of the few tables inside, or get your food to go and enjoy in the comfort of your own home (my recommendation). The beef noodle soup is exactly what the doctor ordered. A big, oily bowl packed full of fatty beef and thick noodles. Yum. The scallion pancakes are a northern China specialty that is also not to be missed. read more

Short version: This is great food. I can't pretend to verify authenticity, but it sure looks like it is authentic. The prices are great, and the flavors are amazing. Top notch. Longer version: This is one of the food storefronts inside the Saraga International grocery store. It is unassuming, but should not be overlooked- it packs a ton of flavor for reasonable cost. Chive pancake- this was a scallion/chive/egg griddle pastry, which was delicious. Beef pancake - this was a similar dough but the beef pieces were cut relatively large, and the flavor overall was not as dramatic. This was the only thing in our meal that was a little disappointing. Beef noodle soup - this is a huge portion, and delicious. Moderate-low spice level but lots of flavor, and lots of very tender beef. Delicious noodles. A standout dish. Szechuan shredded chicken - this wasn't as spicy as I'd hoped, but delicious and flavorful with mala. Looking forward to trying more of the menu. read more

If you are looking for authentic Chinese food and need a little snack (or a meal), come here. Just prepare your tastebuds - this may taste more authentic than you are used to. I would consider the China Expresses or Panda Expresses or Chinese buffets to be American-Chinese food. Or, Chinese food catered more or less to the American tastebuds. There isn't anything inherently wrong with this to me. But, this is to say that this place is much more Chinese and much closer to what you'd get in China and to prepare yourself & expectations for that. When I lived in China with my grandparents, I would find little restaurant joints that served dishes like these - and this one would fit right in. There is very limited seating available and it isn't super high class or anything. But, the food is authentic, fairly quick, and a nice little snack or meal if you are already in the international market shopping. IN SHORT: Many of my Chinese friends recommended this place to me and I can see why. If you have a craving for authentic Chinese food, or if you haven't tried authentic Chinese food and want to give it a try, this place is a good option. Inside the Saratoga market! I was lost at first too but then remembered there's a restaurant inside whenever I go grocery shopping. A very small, family-owned spot where there's maybe 5 seating. If you've been to Chinatown, NY - you're used to this. Very authentic Chinese food that's hard to find in Indy. Was craving string beans and I'm glad they had it. The cooks are all natives from China and they'll really show you how Chinese food taste and is made. When you order the spicy beef noodle soup, the one thing you have to remember is remind them about how hot or mild you want it or they'll just make it to the standard which is really spicy. And very important to know the steam buns if you want an order it'll come in 7, so be aware, I didn't realize how much food this all was up until I got it all in the table. Most important thing to know is on the weekends Friday, Saturday and Sunday they make these filled in buns, and they'll have different flavors red bean, taro, and mung bean, I think there's more flavors but They're made fresh and it is so delicious, my favorite is the taro filling, I highly recommend! A tiny, sparkling-clean Chinese restaurant tucked inside a grocery store. Everything I've tried is authentic and delicious! There are photos on the wall of their most popular items - don't be alarmed by uninformative names like "Beff Pancake" (yes, that's how it's spelled, and it's a sort of flat bun filled with barbecue beef) or "Pork Sandwich" (finely minced pork and spices on a bun I think might be made at the restaurant). The prices are unbelievably low for such good food, too! If your order will take more than a few minutes, the staff will let you know, and you can shop for a bit and come back when it's ready. The dining area is fairly small, so sometimes it's more convenient to get carry-out; just order at Asian Snack before you get in line to pay for your groceries, then pick up your food a few minutes later when you're ready to go. read more

This is my favorite Chinese food spot so far in Indianapolis. Friendly staff, delicious authentic food! Favorites: - pie with chive filling: A must-get. I get a few of these to go every time and toast them in a pan for a satisfying breakfast - fish fillets in hot chili oil: staple sichuan dish, and they get the flavor right with a good balance of spicy and numbing. Be careful as it is one of the spicier dishes I have had living in Indianapolis. A huge serving with tons of fish and cabbage to enjoy with rice! - cold noodle salad: addictive cold sesame noodles with a strong garlic kick and refreshing cucumber - duck wings: so savory. They are a bit of an acquired taste as there is very little meat and you are mostly eating the skin. But so so so tasty; the flavor is spot on. Any of their cold stewed dishes will have a similar flavor profile so I suggest you try those out - soy milk: fresh soy milk. If you've only had the American packaged stuff give this a try with a little sugar- it is completely different. Soooo good. Skips: - Chinese cruller: I don't think these are freshly fried so they feel too oily - Sichuan chicken: not sure how authentic this is, but it was too sweet for me - steamed buns: nothing wrong with these but just as a warning the are given to you cold so you will have to heat them up yourself I keep trying to work my way through the menu but find that I keep ordering the same delicious things over and over. As a Chinese students visiting Indianapolis for a few days with no food at my Airbnb, I was excited to come across this place inside a grocery store (Saraga), two birds and one stone. I was so happy when I had the Juan Bing Guo Zi (Chinese pancake with fried dough stick) and Dou Fu Nao (tofu pudding?) because they taste so authentic and reminiscent of the childhood days when I had street food breakfast before school. The portion is so generous for the price too. And everyone working there was super friendly. I'm so satisfied and content after this meal! Seating is limited but it is so worth it when you eat. We have been so Indianapolis several times but never got to try this due to some circumstances but we finally got to this place during our last visit. This place is located inside the world market as soon as you get in, you turn right. We loved this place, their service is great and fast. I love and love their chive dumplings with Chili Oil. Their prices are very affordable for the portions that you get. We went there as soon as they opened in the morning so we were able to get seatings, otherwise, it's just a takeaway place. Don't get intimidated by how the place is set up. You will not know how authentic their food is compared to the other Americanized Chinese stores until you have tried it. Some of the most authentic northern Chinese food I have had in Indianapolis. Everything is good here, but not particularly tailored to American tastes, so don't go expecting General Tso's chicken to be on the menu. On the other hand, the galeishan spicy chicken is great, if a bit bony, And they make a really good breaded fried black pepper fish. Lamb with cumin is awesome, and any of the dishes with the spicy Szechuan pepper are amazing. I've never had a bad dish here. You're probably going to want to do takeout, I have eaten at the restaurant a couple of times, and tables are few and communal, and I once shared my table with a roach. read more

When they closed I honestly shed a few tears. It's hard to find a Chinese restaurant where every dish is consistently good. I am in love with their chive pancakes. They are so simple and light yet delicious. I will get cravings for them occasionally and my husband will have to run out to pick them up. They have great prices on bao- You can buy a very large bag for only a few bucks they are also quite large and will last a while. It is easy to steam them at home in the microwave if you want them to be warm again. Just wrap the bao and a moist paper towel and microwave for about 30 seconds. They also have some delicious rice and noodle dishes, and a small table to sit and eat at if you do not want to eat while you walk around the grocery store. However they prefer that you use cash to make your purchases from this booth so be prepared with some cash if you are planning to try some of their yummy food. read more

This is probably one of the biggest secrets in Indy right here at Asian Snack and I finally got a chance to come eat here after 2 years in Indy. Completely unpretentious and completely hits the spot. Where is it you say? It's literally inside Saraga Market (yes, inside the grocery store). It's at the very front of the grocery store and there is also a taqueria right next to it. You walk in and it is to your left. Yes it is a hole in the wall and seating is limited and it's like how you would expect to enjoy street foods in asia. You know you've come to the right place when everyone eating there is Asian and they speak Mandarin. They can make things off the menu, quite easily. The guys sitting behind us got tomatoes and eggs (super classic Chinese dish) and that was not on the menu. My friend and I got the bing (it's like a crepe with sauces they put on and with a fried chinese donut -- it's a classic breakfast food -- inside), a set of veggie buns (6) and fried noodles with veggies. This place is inside Saraga and is a gem. The owner is a gentleman from Tianjin, the northern part of China, and this place has some great northern Chinese dishes. There's a set menu and there's also an ad hoc menu. In addition, you can buy pretty much anything from Saraga, bring it here, and he'll cook it however you like. That is cool. The owner used to own Szechwan Garden just down the road from what he said. This place is very authentic - there's no sign out front (there is a small sign inside Saraga) and his clientele is essentially those who shop at Saraga, so he doesn't need (and is unable) to appeal to the PF Chang crowd. If we lived near here, we would essentially outsource all of our cooking to this guy. There are only 2-3 tables so a lot of people take out. The prices are lower than comparable Chinese restaurants. This is a must go if you are into authentic Chinese food. Avoid if you are the PF Chang kind of Chinese food eater because there is no decor, atmosphere, or presentation. read more

Asian Snack is a great go to for carry-out. My new favorite! Someone asked me when I first moved to Indianapolis in 2013, when I had good Chinese, I said six months ago (Chicago)... Love NYC, San Fran chinese, miss a traditional dim sum restaurant, growing up in Maryland, close to DC and Baltimore. This take out restaurant is very good. Try the Spicy Fish-great portion and good taste! The young-chow fried rice is very good, my boys are picky and will devour it. Had the chive pancake was ok, the beef one is better. This is a little kiosk inside saraga grocery. They've got this "beef pancake" on the weekends and it's amazing. It's like a really big pan fried dumpling... Or a hamburger in a pouch or something. I don't know exactly how to describe it, but I highly recommend it. Oh, and it's dirt cheap! read more
