Giving this a 1-star review, since it is Asian Star, not starS. Friend and I arrived about an hour before close to have the lady who I believe owns it, practically show us out saying they closed at 10:30. Well, lady, it's 9:30 and we're hungry. To our dismay, the buffet had been turn off but steam was still coming up, so we went for it. Bad idea. While getting our food, we were warned not to slip on the floor they had just mopped. My accomplice brought up the fact that they're mopping the freaking floor an hour before close and maybe they should wait, just like every restaurant, until all patrons have left and they stay a bit extra to get cleaning duties completed. Her response? 'We want to go home! Hahaha'. Really? Why are you even here? I then see her using windex to clean the buffet WHILE FOOD IS STILL IN THE WELLS. Yes, it was spraying into the food. There was definitely mold on the ceilings, almost every single booth had tears and holes, and like others said, the one star goes to the prompt drink refills. It IS musty. The combo of mold and steam is appetizing, so is the windex-marinated food. Mmm. Bet I made you hungry. Honestly a little surprised this place for above a star from anyone. So so SO DIRTY On the left side, the side with what looks to be an unused party room, 2 booths back from the room, there is a HUGE mold spot. ACTIVELY growing. When you walk through the first door there are lanterns hanging from the ceiling that are so full of dust. The fake plants are covered in dust as well. My daughter loves quarter candy machines. I'm pretty sure that the candy stays there until it's purchased...also when they refill them, they don't clean them. If you look the door to where the candy goes out, there is so much, so much, I don't even know. Dirt. Residual buildup... The bathroom is disgusting. To the point that we make a point to go before we arrive and hold it until we get back home. No to mention the dirty fish tanks... The ice cream has also melted and been refrozen. Like every time... I can't believe bougie Dublin people even eat there And I'm pretty sure there is no competition close by for a Chinese buffet. Someone should jump on that because it would be a freaking gold mine if it was even slightly cleaner than this place. I hadn't been to Asian Star for years! I read some reviews that made me wonder how they were open. And if the part we see is so dirty, how dirty is the kitchen...my family begged me to go so I went. I can't explain the bitter sweetness of my first bite of hot n spicy chicken as I chewed I prayed everything I put on my plate was fresh and kept at the proper temps. On a positive note, the Dublin location is cleaner than the location out east off of Brice road While I will never eat their sushi, the rest of the entrees are good. To name a few, the hibachi chicken, honey chicken, hot n spicy chicken. Green beans. Spring rolls, dessert cakes that vary between a strawberry cake, a yellow, citrus like cake, and a chocolate/coffee cake, a banana pudding to die for. Unfortunately the distrust in their cleanliness makes me afraid to eat ANYTHING raw. So that's that! Some things taste good. Some things are questionable. Ok one star only because no stars is not an option. So upon entering I had serious doubts. Typically a restaurant smells like food. However, this place smelled like a fish market. We should have turned around and left right then but we didn't. The food looked hot at the buffet but when I sat down to eat it was cold. Needless to say I didn't eat anything. When it came time to leave I asked to speak with the manager. When I explained how the food was cold, he grabbed a food thermometer (conveniently located at the register) and walked to the buffet out of my sight. When he came back he said the food was 160 degrees. Yea sure it was. He only gave me 1/2 off of one dinner. Don't go here. Its a nasty place and I won't be going back. Back when I was still a student, I thought that this was one of the best Chinese buffets in town. After an approximately 5 year hiatus, I returned to Asian Star for their lunch buffet. The interior still looks the same, the availability of the dishes were the same, and the service was just as good. But I came away from this meal extremely underwhelmed. I'm not sure if the quality of the food went down, or if I've just become pickier after having eaten some really good Chinese food elsewhere. Either way, "all you can eat" isn't nearly as attractive when it's "all you can eat food that you don't find tasty." Really a bummer. It's possible that maybe the dish turnover isn't so good for their lunch buffet and their dinner buffet is better. Will have to try coming back for dinner sometime. read more

I lowkey wish I could give 0 stars but I'll give it one.. what can I say about this restaurant that hasn't been said about the westside of Columbus, this place needs help. No labels in the food so you literally have to guess. Food was just simply nasty.. the manager was rude and was talking about my table because we didnt finish our food. Food is generally hot. It is tasteful but some items fall flat: such as he chicken with garlic sauce not tasting like much or the sesame chicken tasting like ketchup. Otherwise, the lo mein is GREEEAATT and I enjoy the honey chicken. My wife and I take it to go and pay about $16. read more

Okay this place is one of the dirties places I've ever been into. It smells like dirty feet and the food always looks picked over. I understand it's a buffet but give me a break you are charging 14 dollars a person at dinner the food and atmosphere better be good. The tables are always sticky and they bring you refills in pitchers that sit on tables for god knows how long. They need a make over or a visit from the health department. The folks putting the food back into the buffet line, they don't wear gloves and finger a lot of the desserts. I'm just sad because I love Asian food and will have to find a new establishment. Yikes. Went 2 hours before close. We thought we'd check it out cause it was open later , and I generally try to avoid going into places close to closing time. I thought 2 hours was cool but uhh..there was literally next to no food left. All the servers were doing closing side work, coming over to our table and taking salt/pepper and soy sauce to refill. Kind of rude..made me pretty uncomfortable like I shouldnt have been there. Sorry, two hours seemed more than enough to me. This place is DIRTY. theres a guy cleaning a fish tank, right next to the buffet, and has a hose sucking the dirty water that's literally attached to the buffet line. That seems uhhhh pretty unsanitary. Maybe clean the fish tanks after close? My review might be better if I had a chance to try anything other than about a quarter of what is normally available. I got the last 2 remaining crab legs which excited me but those weren't great. My favorite was the salmon. Pretty decent. And the sugar bread was good as well. All of the desserts were gone other than the orange cake which looked neon and sketchy. There was food all spread over everywhere. I get it, it's a buffet, but maybe try to make it look less obvious that its had other people's hands in it. Soooo nearly $13, plus drinks, to try about 4 items at a buffet and wonder if I'm going to get food poisoning or sprayed by dirty fish tank water. Absolutely terrible. I wouldn't eat here ever again. Okay, stay with me here: Asian Star is a perfectly wonderful Chinese buffet, well above average in almost every regard, and decorated like a scene out of Big Trouble in Little China. It's a maddening, crazy place where the food is more than plentiful and basically dirt cheap- and perfectly edible, to boot! I've had so many horrible experiences at Chinese buffets that I had long written off the idea entirely. However Asian Star should by no means be lumped in with their competitors. The food here is consistently above regular buffet quality, and certain dishes are as good as some take-out places around town. Their dessert table is a great place to make a savage run on, in particular. I always feel guilty at Asian Star because I always eat way, way too much. I'm usually a one-plater at any buffet, no matter how good. This place has seen, to our mutual horror, a dreaded, much-loved, much-regretted, third plate. Plentiful soda refills, beautifully terrible Chinese muzak, and a laid-back, take-your-time atmosphere make Asian Star a superlative Chinese Buffet. Still, in the end, it's still a buffet, and you get what you come for- tons of nearly good food for a mere pittance. Don't waste your time or your pocket change at any other Chinese buffet in town if that's what you've already decided to eat. read more

Asian Star has the kitsch-factor for a Chinese buffet. Faded wall murals of neon skylines and giant mirrors grace the interior design. There are about 5 actual buffet islands, and an ice cream cooler. Personally, I thought the price was a little high. It was about $19.80 for two people at dinner time. I'm generally used to the $7.50-$8.00 price for a buffet. The first island has an assortment of rice, noodles, and various americanized chinese dishes. I personally enjoyed the spicy chicken with button mushrooms. The Lo mien I didn't care for as much. The next island had egg/spring rolls, as well as American sides [fries, pizza, etc.]. I had two spring rolls, which were fairly good! Decent flavor and a good texture...I probably would have liked carrot in it as well. The third island has the soups/dumplings. I tried a pot sticker [fried dumping] and it was extremely bland. The fourth has a combination of their pastry desserts and what appeared to be a salad bar. I'm really not sure what most of the desserts were [despite the little picture display above it] but I think I had a coconut cream cake and black forest cake square [fairly small tasting portions]. The last island was their fresh fruit bar....which didn't look all that fresh. I kind of avoided it. The ice cream cooler was kind of disgusting in my opinion. I worked at an ice cream shop for a year and a half, and the build up in there looked as if they hadn't cleaned the cooler in a few weeks. And, it was stocked with generic ice cream, the gummy, malted flavored kind. I'm giving Asian Star 3 stars because, despite what was presented, I'd go back again. My boyfriend asked me midway through our meal at Asian Star, how many stars I would give it on Yelp. I thought for a moment and replied "4 stars". Did I really think it was that good, he wanted to know. "It's really good for what it is". And it's true. For a giant Chinese Buffet this place is really good! What I liked most about it, is that you can tell in the heyday of Chinese Buffets (I'm guessing mid 80's by the decor) this place was probably top notch. The dining room is huge and I do believe I saw a second, more secluded dining room towards to back. Dimly lit, this place clashes the best of traditional Chinese art and music, with 80's architecture and lighting. Neon lights! The buffet is large and well stocked. I love Chinese Buffets because there's always pizza for those picky eaters who aren't very adventurous. This place has pizza, wings, and garlic bread for little kids. I always get a chuckle out of that. The food on the buffet line was fresh and plentiful. I enjoyed the honey chicken, which is a dish that I honestly had not experienced yet. Okay, so I was starving, because it was around two in the afternoon, so a feast was in order. I have my reservations about Asian Star buffet from previous experiences where the food was not very appetizing, so thus, it was avoided. I was so hungry I decided to stop here anyways, because I'd be damned if I didn't get my Chinese/American fare for lunch. Not even two close on Monday signs would stop me. I expected the worse, but instead received some... so-so... actually edible food on their buffet. The previous reviews on this place regarding the different items on the buffet and their rankings hit it spot on. The General Tso's is quite lacking in taste, and even... texture, while the lo mein is pretty good and spot on. Chicken wings, in my China town? I will also give this place kudos on the fried wings on the buffet. Usually I avoid these like the plague after experiencing too many places who didn't thoroughly cook them despite the crispy outside, but they were perfectly done here, and the oil most of the Asian places fry these in are mouth watering, crispy, goodness. Yeah, I know, a Chinese buffet isn't really a place for "chicken wings", but these were good, I WILL HAVE YOU KNOW! I love you Asian Star for making those weird looking fried Lobster rolls. I haven't had those in ages. The decor here is lacking and dirty... and old. A good renovation is in order for this place, but all in all, if you are starving, and close by, and your other favorite places are closed, then give it a shot. read more

We love coming to this Asian Star. It is so much better than the Brice Road location. It has better assortment of foods. I love that they have bean sprouts on the buffet table and has a unique chicken called Hibachi chicken. They also offer spring rolls (I've noticed many Asian buffets that did not). read more

My parents and I wanted to eat at another Chinese place before we went grocery shopping at New Asian Supermarket, but we got lost and passed by Asian Star. Buffet? Whyyyy not. Turns out that we've been to this restaurant years ago when we were visiting our relatives here in Ohio. I guess it was a lot better then because for a year now, none of our relatives recommended this place to us again. However, it wasn't bad. It was A-OK! No, that's not a scallop. It's a deep-fried fruit-roll-up-shaped chunk of Krab. The best dish was the sauteed green beans. The best desserts were the carrot cake and the ALMOND COOKIE. That cookie was awesome. I'm a little shocked by the negative reviews. Apparently some folks are not familiar with buffets, and the fact that food on buffets is not always minutes-fresh. My family has a tradition of hitting local Chinese buffets on Christmas day, and I truly enjoyed Asian Star. The eggrolls and dumplings were large and well filled with tasty meats- the accompanying sauces were flavorful without being overwhelming. The dim-sum stood out as well- it was not gooey like some places! The hibachi chicken, as others have mentioned, was supremely flavorful. Being Christmas, there were many seafood dishes on the buffet, such as Salt and Pepper Shrimp (full body), Tilapia, Lobster, Crawfish, and Grey Side. All of them were very tasty, served bone-in. The spicy bean sprouts were spiced just right, and the broccoli was still crispy- I consider that a major feat for a buffet! Throughout my time there, the staff was constantly bringing out fresh trays of food, and attentive to our table. Maybe it was just the holiday A-game, but I have no complaints! read more

I get take-out here all the time. It is a typical Chinese buffet except they have one special product that you do not find at other buffets. They always have the dim sum shu me available. It is in a covered steaming pan near the won ton. Take-out is priced by the pound, so you do not have to fill a container -just take as much as you want. They have a wonderful Christmas day buffet for about $18/person. Lobster, different shrimp, etc. The take-out price on that day is too high, however. read more

Stay Away/Cold Food 11/25/19 Sign says they close 10:30, we came 9:15: greeted rudely by manger who said come in take a look, if you dont like it you can leave. We looked at buffett and saw everything we wanted; BUT after we began to eat, food was cold and not fresh, so we tried other food, also cold, tried again, but all food we liked was cold. We mentioned to mangaer who raised his voice rudely and said "I told you to take a look first and if you didnt like dont stay, I took a look, but looking is not tasting: he yelled at us and said he told us when we walked in, then said leave if you dont like the food. i had no idea when we walked in he was actually saying basically "I am serving cold food thats not fresh and shouldnt not be sold, food the health department would stick a thermometer in and throw away. Closing at 10:30 is not an excuse to serve harmful food at 9:15pm or even 10:15: hot food shouldnbe hot, cold or close the doors, I am bringing TV News cameras and the health department , lets see if the manager yells at them and tells them to leave if they dont want cold food with bacteria growing. Short of it: This is not a place you go if you only eat out on special occasions. You will be disappointed. This is the kind of place you go when you are just tired of the same ole same ole. My nephew wanted to go to this place so we tried it out. I read the reviews and was not excited to go. However, it was not as horrible as some made it sound like. I would say it is the typical Chinese buffet. Same kind of food and sort of that hole in the wall nostalgic feel. It wasn't the cleanest place...the booths could use some washing. Otherwise it is just dated inside which is what probably makes it seem worse than it really is inside. I am a vegetarian and there weren't many options. But if I still ate meat, there was more than plenty of options I would have tried. I don't think I'd go back but really only because of the lack of vegetarian options. read more

Consistently excellent food. Best dim sum of any Columbus buffet and rivals most regular restaurants. I could make an entire meal off the shumai and dumplings. Their fried chicken wings are delicious as well - plump and full of flavor. The appetizer section features both spring rolls and egg rolls and a good assortment of other foods. It is all Americanized Chinese food and limited Japanese, including sushi and nigiri. I love their pepper beef and General Tso chicken. Another feature is a mayo crab casserole which is fantastic. There is a salad and a dessert bar, with many options as well. Service is fast and attentive - I have never waited for a refill. The reason for a 4 is because as fantastic as the food and service are, they are in desperate need of a renovation. Some seats are torn, others the springs have broken. The desert bar is often not kept up because of the slower over turn and the ice cream area is messy. While attention to these areas would gain higher scores in the future, the fact remains that this restaurant is a fixture of the community and will continue to be prosperous for years to come. read more

Okay, so sometimes the food is a little cold. Sometimes the rice noodles are a little rubbery but the service is good. It's like an adventure going in because you're never sure which dishes are going to be fresh! besides--it's a buffet wait 5 minutes and the hot stuff will be out, ready to go :) Oh and when it's some little kids' birthday, they play this ridiculous happy birthday tape that was probably made circa 1974. all in all, good fun. This used to be the most decent chibuff in town. Now they do not restock all items like sesame balls or teriyaki chicken sticks. Quality has severely reduced from mediocre to poor. The price has increased. Also if a rare restock happens some rude person will load all onto a plate (even though it is impossible for their table to eat all). My family and I ate here last night. The food was typical for a Chinese buffet. The food was warm, but could have been hotter. The main complaint was the restrooms. The women's room needed cleaned. I realize that a restroom can become messy when a restaurant is busy; however, this was dirty from lack of a proper cleaning for a long time. A-OK sounds about right to me. Asian Star is a fine Chinese buffet. It is a decent price and the food is mostly tasty. They have your usual selection of noodles, meat dishes, seafood dishes, assorted desserts, dumplings, and non-Chinese food (pizza and wings). It is just all around average in every way. Positives: The lo mein was tasty and not too dry. The crab rangoon, according to Rachel P., was superb. The eel sushi made me very happy - often Chinese buffet sushi is limited to imitation crab rolls. The dim sum-esque pork wontony dumplings were good. Negatives: Both the General Tso's and Sesame Chicken were quite unimpressive. It was too sweet - and did not have that heavy body that I expect from Chinese buffets. There were not as many islands of food as I was expecting (I think there were 3 total: one for meat/noodles, one for seafood/dumplings/non-Chinese, and one for dessert). And the frequency of changing food was just alright. - Hotness of Food: 3 - Frequency of Changing Trays: 3 - Frequency of Drink Refills: 4 - Cleanliness of Buffet Area: 3 If a friend requested I go to Asian Star, I would gladly go back. My family and I really enjoy Asian star! We have been coming to this restaurant for years. They have a pretty good variety of food and they have food for picky children like pizza and mozzarella sticks. The chicken is good, but sometimes it can be hard depending how long the food sets there. I love there sweet and sour chicken and their stuffed mushrooms. I suggest going Saturday around dinner time because the food is pretty fresh then. The staff is nice and attentive with clearing dishes from your table and filling drinks. We also enjoy looking at the fish tank when we come! read more

As chinese buffets go its pretty big. Its clean. I myself always rate a places general's Tsos. This place had made it pretty good. They made it better than Apple Buffet in Hilliard. Another thing i look for is how fresh their Crab Rangoon is. Theirs was small pouches of wonton which actually was a good idea. Normally other places make them into triangles then you have to tear the ends off because they get hard. Many other dishes on the buffet. Your basic Chinese buffet. It has all the trappings we have come to know and love. The service is good and they are speedy with plate removal and drink refills. The food is relatively fresh depending on the time of day. There have been a few misses but it has been fresh more often than not. There are plenty of choices here between the 5 or 6 islands. Unfortunately, it seems like there is never anything new here. Every time I go, it is 99% the same dishes as last time. I guess if you are a fan of consistency this is the place for you. I would prefer a little experimentation. Loved: crab rangoon, hibachi chicken, honey chicken. Meh: Sweer and sour sauce, teriyaki chicken, egg rolls. Disliked: General Tso's, all of the desserts.
