While The Library is a few blocks away from the bustling downtown Pier and Beach tourist spots, its location adjacent to Johns Hopkins makes it well worth the visit outside of the tourist zone. There's dedicated parking for the restaurant behind the building in the lot, plus metered street parking and garages within less than a block. The main entrance is on the side of the building, on 5th Street S just off 6th Avenue S. Outdoor seating is available, but I personally wouldn't choose it, sitting right next to a busy intersection with constant traffic and exhaust isn't my idea of enjoyable. That said, the interior ambiance alone is worth the visit. Inspired by the historic George Peabody Library and part of the Oxford Commons Hospitality group, the design is quirky, fun. The thoughtful mix of bookshelves, warm lighting, rich browns and deep blues, and the seamless blend of library, bar, and dining space creates a truly special atmosphere, especially if you love books. We visited as part of a large group for a special occasion dinner. They accommodated us on very short notice after our original plans changed due to possible rain and outside seating only at our first reservation, which was impressive. Our waitress was fantastic, she handled our entire table (and others) by herself with no buss person and still managed every order and individual request with genuine care and efficiency. I haven't tried breakfast, lunch, the morning coffee/pastry take-out window, or the bar yet, but the dinner experience was excellent. Fair warning: this is not a budget-friendly spot. If you're watching every dollar or might resent the food due to prices, it's probably not the place for you. It's ideal for special occasions or when you want to enjoy a meal without worrying about the cost, each dish/cocktail is in line with upscale dining in the area,it does add up quickly with drinks, apps, entrees, and sides, though I read they have happy hour. We ordered appetizers (shared), I also had the opportunity to sip a few cocktails (when offered), I also shared entrees, and sides with some of our group. Everything we tried was very good, there were not stand-outs, all was scrumptious, from the start of appetizers: the warm bread with its delicious butter spread, the roasted cauliflower, the spicy crispy shrimp, the Steak Frites, the perfectly cooked French fries, and the sautéed spinach, all of which I had a taste of personally. The portions looked modest on the plates but were surprisingly filling, many of us had leftovers to take home. We finished with the warm cookie and ice cream, which was hands-down amazing, especially with the perfect touch of flaky salt on top. The cocktails were strong and creative. My first choice (suggested by the waitress) wasn't quite to my taste, it was too tart and strong for me, but she immediately removed it from the bill and happily brought me something else I enjoyed much more. A straightforward menu gives a decent variety and the chef delivered on the flavor. We had the egg Benedict the Gudda grits, and the (not so) French toast. Overall, the food was delicious, but I was extremely disappointed with the "French toast" for some reason, the chef opted for not doing an egg/milk bath for their French toast, which to me is a grave mistake, who wants to dry French toast? This liberty could be excused, and tolerable for the sake of creativity and innovation, IF it was openly, shared on the menu, or by the server. However, this came to a COMPLETE surprise to me AFTER ordering and receiving it. I've never had DRY French toast, nor do I ever wish to again despite the tasty toppings and well executed cinnamon butter cream, it was still not an enjoyable experience, especially if you're expecting classic French toast. That said the eggs Benedict was phenomenal. The pork is perfectly cooked. The biscuits are light and fluffy. And the sauce was immaculate. The Gudda grits surprise me while not being creamy in the same way of grit, I've had in the past, these retained their grit structure, but it kind of melted in your mouth, providing that creamy texture and they add chopped bacon and a sweet I would guess type of reduction in just the right amount to balance the flavor of the Gudda. I do wish they had sausage and hash browns. But it's not that kind of place. My last complaint would be in the potatoes that come with the Benedict. Whatever other option, they have picked those get anything, but those ours came undercooked, and they refried them for us, and they still were just below average which for a place like this. I expected more. Overall, not a bad place. The coffee was phenomenal. I had a dirty Matcha, and it was perfectly executed. Prices aren't terrible for what you'd expect from downtown St Pete at a fancy place, so I was happy. Service was good and friendly. After I expressed my dissatisfaction with the French toast, the manager came over and offered his apologies and remove the item from my bill, even offered to bring us something else, and to have a beverage to go to make up for it. However, I was at the end of our mail and I was ready to get going with the rest of my day, so I said thank you and we departed. Overall, I will not come back for French toast but that eggs Benedict. We started with the breakfast bread and cocktails, the breakfast bread I will say is really tasty, but incredibly sweet and we were only able to eat one slice a piece with how rich it was. For cocktails I went with an espresso martini myself which was fresh and well made, her cocktail while I cannot remember what she got she was happy with it. They have a full service bar and an eclectic menu to choose from so I'm sure they're mostly all great! For my meal I went with the breakfast flatbread, be sure to ask about the eggs because I was told some ways it will sog up the flatbread! I will say mine was not, I ate half as I was full from the rich bread and I reheated the second half at home in the oven which was great as well! We started with the smoked salmon dip, it was served with pickled onions, pickle slices, pickled lemon slices and homemade potato chips. It was very good. My friend and I found this place on Instagram and decided to make the 1 hr and 45 minute drive to try it out! MAKE RESERVATIONS! They have indoor seating and outdoor seating. We didn't know you e reservations until we were driving there. Luckily, there was a spot outdoor within a good time frame. I would have loved to have dined inside because it's so beautiful and looks like an upscale library, but outdoors was nice too, since it was overcast and slightly breezy. On a sunny, hot day, this may not be the best choice, since it's not covered. They have a small free parking area behind the building, but if it's busy and full, you will have to pay parking on the meter, which you can do on the Park Mobile app. It's not too expensive (about $3 for 2 hours) and you can extend it on the app if need be. Service was so quick and friendly! We went Saturday before Mother's Day & it was busy of course. They had the brunch menu until 4 pm, which was great. Our children got kid's burgers with fries, I got the French Toast stack with an additional fried egg on the side & my friend got the Breakfast Burrito. The kids loved the burger! My friend really enjoyed her burrito, which came with breakfast potatoes. Let me tell you about that French Toast! I thought it was made on croissant bread, because the bread was so soft & flaky (this was such a good thing!) and delicious! Our server said it was made on cinnamon toast sourdough brioche.
