I went for a cleaning and had to see dentist first. he said I had gingivitis and needed additional treatment. I paid a deposit and scheduled a cleaning appointment. Upon arrival was asked to pay additional amount due. Thinking that was the additional amount for gingivitis I paid. the hygienist did half the cleaning, gave me a mouth rinse (for the gingivitis) and told to return for second part of cleaning. thankfully, i checked on leaving to be sure the $206 i had already paid was for all the cleaning. it was not. i would owe an additional $165 to finish the cleaning. i called the office on monday and left message to return call. nothing. i called again on wednesday and they returned my call and explained each additional charge they added. no, the dentist did not explain the charges to me, not his job. PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS TYPE OF BUSINESS. DON'T BE SUCKERED INTO GOING FOR FREE ANYTHING. THIS IS NOT THE WAY A PROPER BUSINESS IS RUN. read more

I had an extraction done on 2/19 by Jerrell Mills, DMD; I would call him a doctor, but usually doctors actually care about their patients wellbeing. In my opinion, they should fire this idiot! While removing my molar, he was watching and commenting on the "price is right" on the small TV they provide for your amusement. When done, he did not offer me any pain medication, I had to request it through the receptionist. The following Sunday I called the emergency service due to extreme pain and swelling in my lower jaw; I Left 2 messages and NO ONE called me back. the following Monday I called in the morning to be seen by the doctor; the receptionist told me that they were booked for the day; I told her that it was an emergency and that I would be forced to go to the ER. She then told me that I would be seen but that I would have to wait. When finally seen by this retarded dentist, he actually treated the problem as dry socket and sealed an infection into the abstract sight. He told me that it should feel better; I told him I didn't feel anything different and then I asked for an antibiotic; at which time he told me I didn't need it. He wouldn't prescribe me anything for pain either; extremely inhumane, if you ask me! Later that evening I was forced to call the Aspen emergency phone line again and Dr. Latham called me back, he asked me if I had finished all of my antibiotics, at which time I told him, that dumbass you call a dentist, never gave me any nor did he give me anything for pain. I was in severe pain for days, missed days at work and I am now terrified to sit in a dentist chair again. I have had an extraction before, elsewhere and the dentist called me to check on me, gave me ample medication for pain. DO NOT LET THIS DENTIST TOUCH YOUR MOUTH!!!! The best part is that Helen - had the nerve to tell me that my situation was not an emergency- lets rip her tooth out and seal an infection in her jaw and see how she feels about it. read more

I went to the dentist because of the ad for free first time visit. They wanted to charge over $400 for a cleaning. I initially thought I'd get it done and gave a deposit of 60%. Got to think it was high and went to another dentist that was more reasonable. Cancelled my appointment with Aspen and only got back 50% of my deposit. They said the rest went to initial exam. I asked about the free first visit and they stated its only if you don't have insurance. Its a big ripoff and as far as I'm concerned a bait and switch. read more

So here's the scam. You get free x-rays for new customers, which is great. I paid only for the teeth cleaning. All was fine. BUT when I went back for my 6 month cleaning, they told me the charge was $252.00 as I have to get x-rays again. The receptionist said you have to get x-rays every 6 months there. EEK! Dr Mills is a great dentist , He takes the time to pay attention to what you are saying . Ronda the dental assistant is so sweet ,you couldn't ask for someone so nice .she will help with anything . Aspen Dental of Myrtle Beach, was there for us from start to finish. My father needed new dentures because his were loose & were over 20 years old. This was our 1st appointment & Aspen Dental treated us like family. Dr Mills was very easy to get along with and explained everything great. Office Manager Michael A. put together a wonderful denture package and he really he made it happen for us. Gina expedited the process and my fathers's replacement dentures will be finished in 3.5 business days. How can you beat that! Did not wait too long in lobby but I did spend a lot of time waiting in the chair between x-rays and when the technician came to see me. Also though it was odd that they do not do a cleaning at the initial exam, you have to schedule that separately and make another trip to the office. read more

They are very friendly and kind. English is my second language and is some times hard for me to understand. Especially medical terms, but they take the time and explain everything to me. I took my son here to get 4 wisdom teeth pulled. This office was in-network with our dental insurance. That means they have contracted with them what charges will be covered, and for how much. That didn't stop Aspen from charging me up front for almost 3x as much as I ended up owing. They also charged me for extra sedation time that wasn't even used. They didn't submit the claim to my ins co for months. And then, after they got paid by the ins co, they never sent me a refund. It's taken a year of aggravation, calling and complaining, to finally get over $1000 of my money back. Horrible!! read more

CHECK YOUR COPAY WITH YOUR INSURANCE!!!!!. Went to aspen because they were 100% in network. Son needed wisdom teeth extracted. 100% covered only responsible for $50 copay. BUT NO!! they wanted $942.80. Called insurance co and was informed again it was covered 100% then it dropped to $623.80. Called insurance again it's covered. They still tried to get me to pay. Once I mentioned insurance fraud the scheduled the extraction. Paid the $50 copay and its done. read more

Good technican good location. Appointment was on time and efficient. Prices about in line with other places here in Myrtle Beach.

First visit. The office manager was very rude and because she "thought she knew" why I was there she did not listen long enough to know I did not need a full exam and set of x-rays. She stated they would be "free," and I would not be charged. Low and behold they did file an insurance claim for the "free" set of x-rays. Second visit. appointment had to be cancelled because they didn't order the appliance that needed to be fitted. Finally, received a voicemail message that the appliance required "specialized training" to place the implant. I was told that Dr. Lathum was not trained to do this placement. Here is the best part! So they actually filed my insurance for the exam and "free" x-ray but provided no service. Basically come in for a comprehensive exam and we will bill your insurance and not provide the service. I found aspen dental via my insurance company. I needed some extensive work done. I have been in 3x so far to get the process rolling. After my initial visit I thought seriously about finding a different dentist not because the dentist wasn't through or personable but because the office manager, Heather was so rude, impersonal and lacked the ability to realize that any normal person would need a moment when receiving a quote for $6000 out of pocket. She didn't take the time to go over numbers or to work with me on how to break the amount down into feasible chunks so I could get the dental work I so desperately needed done. When I returned for my first actual appointment I asked to meet with someone besides Heather to see if anything could be done, as 60% is required up front. That's when I met Helen! She patiently went over all the numbers and options to help w the out of pocket cost and make it feasible for me to handle financially. IT IS BECAUSE of HELEN that I remained a patient of Aspen dental! I have had several procedures done so far and have several more to go but without Helen I would never have come back. My hygienist Joanna, who just did my periodontal cleaning, was wonderful. That kind of cleaning is intense to put it mildly but we laughed and chatted the entire time. She made me feel relaxed, was very personable and explained everything before she did anything which is exactly what I needed from someone putting a needle in my mouth and scrapping on my teeth. my husband had a terrible 2 years trying to get dentures that would fit.He had 16 teeth pulled very painful.He pulled out pieces of tooth and roots for months.I really believe some of his teeth could have been saved by a dentist that cared.He paid for top of the line dentures and received hard cheap looking and feeling dentures They were way to big for his mouth.Aspen does not understand what this does to a person.He cant go out feeling good about his self.He has lost a dangerous amount of weight and also caused alot of depression.He was given back under half of the money he paid.This does not cover the wasted time our family spend or the mental hardship we all have been through.When you have a staff of people who arent knowledgeable or understanding of what damage has been done to this mans life its very sad.we now have to find a dentist my husband can trust very hard and expensive to start over read more
