This company was absolutely horrible to deal with. They RUINED my mother's funeral. My mom wanted a special playlist of songs (her only request) and they had a horrible sound system that did not work on the day of services. They had no back up plan and the music portion of the service, again the very most important request of my mom's, was completely discarded. They were extremely unhelpful in every way, and offered no remedies. They were rude to my sisters and myself when we were disappointed. Additionally, they cut my sister's family completely out of the funeral pamphlet. The place was also quite dirty and the photos on the screen were washed out and difficult to see. All in all it was one of the worst days of our lives and it was made unbelievably more awful by this company. I would NEVER recommend them. Aspen Mortuary took good care of my mom a few weeks ago. They were very kind and communicated well with us. They returned her ashes and death certificates in less that a week and followed up with me to provide support resources and to see how I was. I don't think I could have asked for anything else and am very appreciative. read more

This was the worst experience. My mother passed on June 19 th. while in Tenn my sister paid to have her embalmed and transported back to Colorado for the funeral .My mother had prepaid for the services coffin and burial. At the Catholic Church in commerce city. Burial in Akron Colorado not only did we have to get the church arranged ourselfs but when it came time for the burial my sister had to pay to get the hole dug as we are getting ready to lay my mom to rest we are told by law we nee a vault placed before they can lay her to rest. That being said we choose to do the final service with them laying her to rest later in the day. Now almost 30 days later they want money for paying for the vault . Mind you again my mom had prepaid for this . This company should be sued. They are just a bunch of crooks. read more

We used Aspen Mortuaries in 2021 which was a huge mistake. Once they take your full payment it is all down hill from there. Everything is up to you to figure out. They are extremely unprofessional and disorganized. Communication and customer service were consistently poor. Their obituary websites are dated and there is tons of annoying marketing all over the site. I actually had to call them and ask them to put spaces in between the paragraphs for our loved ones obituary because it was just one long big mess. The building where they hold the celebration of life is very run down. There is no upper stage area and the lighting is poor. They do not even have a flat screen TV to play videos for the celebration of life. They use an old school projector with a very small screen and will try and talk you into paying them to burn a DVD for you. Who still burns DVD's in 2021!? They even tried to get us to pay them to download music for us and then burn it on a CD. We downloaded our music on ITunes, brought our own wireless speakers and played the music right from our phone. On the day of the service, they did not even know where are loved one's ashes were. They were left in their care until the day of the service. Once they found them, they didn't even know if they had a folding table for us to display the urn and some pictures. It was so pathetic. My husband and I had to search around their building and try to find a table. We ended up finding one that they didn't even know they had! Who wants to deal with this just hours before a funeral service!?It's clear that they are pocketing thousands of dollars for themselves and not investing any into updated technology or their funeral area. From the very beginning it felt like we were being taken advantage of. Don't waste your time and money here. If you truly care about your loved ones, don't use AM for their funeral service. We regret not looking at other alternatives. read more

Called with questions after receiving the info I asked for on cremation ! First I was told the price I told him I was interested in was wrong ,even though I just received the info 3 wks earlier ! He had no idea why i received that quote as it was $300.00 more than what the info was that I JUST RECEIVED ??? VERY RUDE ! read more

Just wanted to say that Mary with Aspen was an outstanding help in the face of a tragic death early this morning. The family of the deceased doesn't live in Colorado and need arrangements made remotely - she called back on a Saturday morning after 10 minutes (the answering service had taken the call) and put everyone's mind at ease that with their help we will be able to get through the logistics of what's ahead. I usually never give a bad review for any service or establishment; however, Aspen Mortuaries in Lakewood did absolutely nothing to assist my son after the death of his father. They had to be contacted several times just to get a death certificate, and they did nothing but have cremation services provided by a second source. No guidance or coordination for VA burial services - nothing! I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. read more

I get it - no one wants to read about mortuaries - until you need one. I hope you don't, but if/when you do, the folks at Aspen Mortuaries are wonderful. Most mortuaries leave me with a creepy feeling. It's not the death aspect - I'm a doctor - I can/do deal with the death aspect. It's the platitudes that sometimes feel more rote than sincere and the excessive formality - the decor and furnishings - the look and smell. I'm definitely not indicting the industry, but sadly, sometimes it's also the shameless attempts to up-sell through implied guilt. My experience at Aspen Mortuaries was totally unlike this in every way. My dad was receiving hospice care and I knew we would need services sooner than later. Aspen Mortuaries was near my home and I had heard good things from friends whose families had used them, so I called. The man I spoke with was kind but relaxed and helpful. He took notes on what I wanted - essentially basic cremation and help with arrangements at Fort Logan National Cemetary - i.e., this wasn't going to be the biggest "sale" they ever made. He told me the price (less expensive than almost everywhere) and told me I could lock it in by paying up front, but that there was really no risk in waiting because they hadn't raised their prices in years. When my dad died, he pulled his notes and immediately moved forward wtih what I had requested - no attempts at up-selling, just outstanding customer service with exactly what WE wanted. He told us that Aspen is locally and family owned and operated. The facility is more casual and homelike than formal, and not at all creepy-feeling. Likewise, the staff are relaxed and kind but real and sincere, and make you feel as comfortable and natural as you can at a difficult and understandably surreal time. They've even made a couple of outreach contacts subsequently - not selling anything - just checking in and making grief-support resources available. I hope you don't need them, but if anyone ever reads this review, it's probably because you do. My experience was that Aspen was wonderful in everyway - I hope I don't, but if ever my family needs mortuary services again, my first and only call will be to Aspen (unless they're for me, in which case I will direct my survivors to drop me off at there). read more

I know how strange it must seem to read a review about a mortuary but honestly this place is just so amazing I couldn't avoid writing it. We ended up here under very sad circumstances having lost our baby. The staff here could not have been any nicer. Honestly they are the most wonderful and amazing people. They called us and had everything handled with the hospital and contacted us when it was time for us come pick up our ashes. They even told us that if we wanted to buy an urn (from anywhere not even from them, how nice is that?) they would move the ashes into it for us so we didn't have to do it as well as into a necklace I have that holds ashes and a key chain for ashes my husband has. They were so understanding. They provide all kinds of amazing services and are great people. Where I hope to never have to deal with such things again I know that I would go to them first! read more

I am a mother who suddenly found it necessary to arrange services for my child. She was 38 but in my eyes she was still my baby. My other daughter, my son and I met with Lew and were very impressed with his demeanor and compassion. We went in knowing that we were opting for cremation, but nothing more. Lew sat and listened to us as we talked about her and told us that in his opinion we were doing the right thing. He never once tried to up sell anything. In fact, after our conversation, we asked about urns for the ashes. He took us into the room where they are kept, showed them to us, and then advised us to wait until the pain wasn't so raw to make a decision. I pray that I never have to go through this again, but God forbid this does happen again, Aspen will be the first place I contact. read more
