When I asked the waitress about the dish, she said it was "good, very generous portion." When it came, there were basically 2 halved slices of basic toast topped with berries and a side of syrup...totally underwhelming. Toast was really burnt on one side, coincidentally the side that was face down. When I told the server and showed her she told me "well that's generally how we serve it. " SERIOUSLY??? OK. Great place for a meal if you're at the National Park. I had the sliders and a Pilsner. The food quality was good. The atmosphere felt a little bit stilted, I'm not sure why. Even though it was a very well-run concession, it felt more like a concession than a restaurant with a lot of heart. I also tried the Brussels sprouts side order, which was just okay... but I am a Brussels sprouts snob :-). The service was fine, but they seemed understaffed and so the waiter was disengaged and distracted. Not on my list for restaurant destinations. If, however, you are looking for a great way to augment a bike ride or a trip to see the park, it gets no better than this. Such a friendly and attentive staff, cool WWII throwback ambiance, small patio with a decent view (and heaters!), the drink I had (tequila spritzer) on both visits this week was very well-made and the drinks I saw being delivered to people around me looked on point. But let me get to the good stuff- I came back twice in three days because the turkey burger with goat cheese was phenomenal. Just absolutely phenomenal. The patty was perfectly moist, the jalapeños gave the burger just the right kick, and the goat cheese- glory hallelujah, the goat cheese- it added the perfect creaminess to the dish and the herbs in the cheese were just right. I can't quite remember what the greens were but they added a slight bite and freshness to the burger. The whole whole thing just came together beautifully. Can't wait to explore the rest of the menu... if I can ever tear myself from this burger. Mmmm... I want another one already. ;) read more

This is a cool, wonderful, place full of character. Essentially a large production warehouse space with a lot of the old equipment as a part of the theme. It really works and feels light and airy without being oppressive. We came for brunch with friends and each of us had the Cobb salad and the friends shared an omelet. We started with a decadent batch of donut holes with walnuts and bacon....don't pass it up, even if you try only half of one. The salad was large, tasty and had a variety of ingredients. It came in a wood bowl and was most satiafying. Bits of bacon and nuts accompanied it too. The egg was well prepared and nicely sliced on top. I had a 'mocktail', and elderflower drink that really hit the spot. Fresh and fizzy. This is our second time at Assemble and we'll be back. read more

Really not impressed. The food is mediocre, heavy portioned, and salty. The service is so-so. No one should ever ask you, "Did you not like it?" if you didn't finish your meal. Maybe it was too much food or maybe it was gross. Either way, you don't ask that question if you want a tip. The view is impressive but getting to the entrance is cumbersome if you aren't familiar with the area. I bet it's really nice in the summer - hopefully the seasonal menu is too. Drinks are not too bad, but that would be the only reason I'd come back. Also, not sure why you need a reservation. Yes, yes, and yes! I think that the old ford motor plant found a restaurant that can match its level of sexiness! Our office decided to check out the Rosie the Riveter Historical Museum which is a must see. After our tour we decided to grab lunch right next door at Assemble. Our group unanimously agreed to order the Frito Pie. Boy was I happy we did. It proved to be the highlight of the meal. Having grown up in a frito loving family I couldn't stop thinking 'why didn't I think of this'! Clearly our family needs to step up its frito game. Crema agria and salsa will no longer cut it! For my main dish I had the sliders and they were very delicious! The fries on the other hand left much to be desired. Our server was very attentive and the food was great. We bought a Groupon and tried this place for brunch. We enjoyed the bacon walnut doughnut holes, chicken and waffle, and brown banana pancakes. We wanted to order the twisted benedict, but the seafood wasn't delivered to the restaurant yet ( we got there at 11:00), so we settled for the chilaquiles, which were just OK. We asked about the beignet which some reviewers mentioned but was disappointed to find that the item has not been on the menu for over a year. What we really enjoyed was the location. It is on the Bay Trail with great walking/biking paths and gorgeous views everywhere. It is right next to the Rosie the Riveter Visitors' center, which was worth a visit. After a full brunch, it is a great place for a stroll. The restaurant also give you a coupon for the Mountain Hardware employee store, which we took advantage of and got great winter clothes at a nice discount. Another bad service experience here today for lunch. Our waiter took 15 minutes to even come to our table after we were seated. When he did, he said they were having "technical difficulties". I'm really not sure what technical difficulty would prevent anyone from approaching our table for 15 minutes even to greet us, ask if we had any questions, let alone take our order, especially since other tables who came in after us were being helped and even had food already. Then, the food took a while to come and we were told they were holding our order because they were waiting on the oysters on the half shell we ordered. Huh? Firstly, it takes less than 5 minutes to shuck a dozen oysters. Secondly, they did not ask us if we wanted all the dishes to be brought out at the same time, or when each was ready. Thirdly, the oysters arrived, but then the other dishes did not arrive at the same time. What a bunch of bullshit! We spoke to the manager who tried to apologize but I said that our waiter was just plain BAD. I saw her go talk to him and then after that, he didn't say a word when refilling our waters or bringing the check by, and he had other waitstaff bring over our food. HE SHOULD BE FIRED. Really poor service and a smarmy waiter with zero backbone to admit his wrongdoing nor to apologize. If this place doesn't shape up they will be out of business before you know it. read more

The ultimate hipster vibes (inconvenient and almost hilarious placement of tables next to old manufacturing equipment, and a kitchen that's open to the dining space) and a really nice view, but call it a miss for brunch. The food was good (especially the beignets, which were crispy and fluffy and delicious) but very overpriced and the menu was very limited. I never imagined we'd find this place for a work lunch in Richmond. It's right on the water, so it has great views with a relaxing breeze on your walk in, and it's located behind the Ford Assembly Plant. The space is really cool and modern with very high ceilings, and the music is relatively old school (Sinatra and the like). We actually really liked this place. It's close to the house, good view of the water if you sit outside. Almost feels like you're far from Richmond. We went for dinner most of the time. Not sure if they're inconsistency has caused it to only be open for brunch and lunch, but that's a shame. There are definitely items that are tasty and worth what you pay for: Chicken pot pie, mushroom pot pie, Cobb salad. And other items I wouldn't get if it was the last meal on earth: Chinese chicken salad. The desserts were yummy-- seasonal fruit crisp and yummy key lime pie. I went here last night for dinner and it was fantastic. The service was great and we say outside. The night was perfect too to sit outside. The outdoor seating has two sweater couches and chairs set up as well as community tables. They are dog friendly and brought out water for my dog. I ordered the chilled tomato and watermelon soup which was fantastic. I am always worried about watermelon getting lost in the flavor profile, but it didn't you could taste it and it was so well balanced and not acidic. The three croutons were also a nice peppery touch of texture. Then I orders the 1lb of steamed mussels and was very pleased as well. The mussels were in a light buttery cream sauce which was perfect with the rustic grilled bread for dipping. I couldn't get enough of the sauce. Lunch time and the place was packed; we felt confident that food and service must have improved. The latter was okay-- the food deplorable. I had the hamburger which was a pre formed dry, thin patty. McDonalds would have been juicier. Husband had the battered cod. He said the cod itself was tasty the batter would covered about 5 helpings of the cod. We both left most of the food on our plates, which was whisked away without a nod to why so much food had been left on our plates. Tried this place based on friend's recommendation. Wanted to take my aged parents to a nice place on water's edge. Glad we went! Menu rotates so although the Photos we had seen on the Photos we had seen on the Yelp reviews made our mouths water, they were not actually available the day we went. We ordered from the days selection and we're very happy. Dad and I order the jambalaya and a garden salad. Excellent and satisfying! Mom ordered the fish and chips and she was really happy. Fish and chips is one of her favorite go to dishes and she was very happy. We will go again. It's sort of a warehouse styled interior. Although the waters edge is if you that is not enjoyed from inside the restaurant, there is plenty of space to walk around outside the restaurant and enjoy the waters edge. Next-door is the Rosie the Riveter Museum. It is free and is worth walking through. It gives a great history of the area. Dad grew up in the area so it gave us lots to talk about. They are only open for lunch. I recommend calling ahead to see how busy they are and if you need a reservation. We also received a shopping pass to go to the hardware clothing store in the same complex. We ran out of time otherwise we would've gone. We also would like to plan Riding our bikes from Richmond Costco along the paved trail to the restaurant. OMG I was surprised by a business counterpart with a take out from Assemble, what a delish surprise though!! He brought 9 different dishes that i shared with my coworkers, and we all LOVED the food. First of all, it's impossible to find if you never been there before. Second, the first time I tried the sliders and Mac & cheese, it was really good. But unfortunately the second time I went, it wasn't. I ordered the same thing and it just wasn't as good. I don't knew of it's because different chef or what but even the food prep is different. The Mac & Cheese, came with no bread crumbs can cheese. That's actually the best part. The sliders, was ok. The fries the provided was all the little pieces left over. Assemble is the"place to go." The Executive Chef, Sharon Li keeps making positive changes to the menu. Oh, BTW someone told me she came to Assemble with experience as an Executive Chef in Napa. I had the salmon with cauliflower rice. The salmon was cooked to perfection. My girlfriend had the yummy fried chicken sandwich. Sharon has changed this dish and made it perfect. On my next visit I'm gonna order it! My other girl fry is vegan and she ordered the portobello mushroom sandwich. She said it was delicious. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants, great location, beautiful place, a hidden gem that I recommended to everyone but this is the last time that I will go back. Eight of us went to celebrate two birthdays and when I found out the previous chief has left and the menu has changed I was not disappointed but was still optimistic that the food would be good. It took a long time to get our food and the food came out cold because "the kitchen was backed up", the food was tasteless, our glasses were not clean and had to get our drinks taken back. Our waiter seems to be new on the job but did his best to get us served so he was the only positive experience. I think it was the manager who came to our table few times and took the food back and knew that I did not get my potatoes but instead of taking responsibility for how slow her kitchen was and how bad the food was she blamed the waiter for his slow service. The last time I checked waiters serve what they are given, they don't cook the food. I never got my potatoes, steak had to be returned and the eggs were not good at all. Out of eight orders the only items that were good were the burgers, so if you are in area go for the burgers but not worth driving there for it either. The price and the food don't compare at all, too expensive for cold and tasteless food. I'm truly disappointed. read more
