This is by far the best nail place I have been to in the Kips Bay area, in terms of quality and how affordable it was (for dip powder). I went on a Tuesday at 4:30pm and they sat me right away. I think from start to finish - it was about 45 mins. She put so much time and care into my nails. She took so much time to shape my nails perfectly, holding them at different angles and looking at both hands side by side to make sure they were symmetrical. She also gave a brief shoulder massage which was lovely. Dip powder was $48 + tax and they have a punch card where they note which color you got and every 10th visit is free. It's a small salon and there were only 2 people working when I was there so they had to send some people away. Just be sure to come during off-peak hours or have an appointment. 100% will be back, this is now my new go-to salon! read more

Absolutely horrible. I was coming here for a few months getting gel manicures and after awhile my nails were so destroyed I could not continue getting them. My nails were so weak and fully bent and the ladies laughed at me. I asked for just a top coat and clear polish so they could strengthen and they sent me to the dryer with patchy nails covered in air bubbles so I walked out with completely destroyed bent backwards nails. I came for a pedicure appointment here today but don't know if I would return for another service. While I was happy with the finished look of my pedicure there were some things I didn't like about this salon: There are no massage chairs near the pedicure bowls as expected, the seating is bench-style and wasn't very comfortable.A large cockroach shuttled across the floor during my service, I haven't experienced something like that before at any salon. The manicurist filed my toenails down so far that it hurt - I jumped a couple of times because she filed down to my nail bed which was painful. When she applied alcohol before applying color my nail beds stung since they were raw from the filing. I've never had a manicurist file my nails down so much. The staff members I interacted with had a great attitude and were very nice. My bar for service is relatively low - I'm not looking for anything fancy when I get my nails done. Truly a GREAT nail salon. I got a gel mani and shellac pedi and was blown away by their customer service. This is a small Chinese run nail salon with a focus on efficiency and details. Every step was perfect and they did a great job. Their foot scrubs and cute foam flip flops they give you were also a plus. The only recommendation I would give is to make sure to seal the free edge and switch up the music. You guys play the same kids song on repeat. Definitely recommend! So it's $38 for a regular mani pedi which is pretty standard for this area. Usually in the $40 range. The space itself is fine, clean. I do think that since it's supposed to be a nicer place.. you would at least expect massage chair or proper pedicure chairs. You can see they have wooden seating area with cushions only. I wouldn't come here if you are planning to treat yourself to a mani pedi on your day off or after an exam or something. My biggest thing was that the lady only scrubbed one of my feet for the pedi (she must have forgot, it happens) but when I brought it up she insisted that she already did it and got very rude with me. I cannot believe I found such an awesome nail salon that offers reasonable pricing! Every where else I called told me that getting gel nails (extensions/acrylics) would be between $85-$110... Astone's pricing was $50-$60 (I can't remember). I ended up getting just a gel manicure and regular pedicure (with gel polish removal for both) and it came out to $72, without tip. They were great with the service and paid attention to detail for sure. It's a small salon so be sure to call before coming in to make sure you don't have to wait. I have horrible, horrible ingrown toe nails. I've come here twice and they always managed to help me get rid of them with the least pain possible. This alone will always me a faithful customer. Great little neighborhood nail salon! Amber is super sweet and always remembers me every time I come. She's also great with nails, as are Shawn and Karis. All the technicians are friendly and efficient, but I recommend making an appointment ahead of time, since the times I've come, I've had to wait even with an appointment. Plan ahead and tack on some additional time to get your pamper session, and it will work out fine! I usually get the regular mani, occasionally a pedicure and have gotten gel mani/pedis (which were excellent and lasted over a month!). All quality work, and they have a good variety of colors to choose from. Astone is clean and welcoming, and from what I've seen, they always use clean and sanitized equipment and new files, buffers and hot towels for each client. They also add the personal touch of offering you tea and a quick shoulder massage after your nails are done. Decent prices given the area, and they offer a punch card for regulars. Get 10 services and you get a regular manicure for free! My only (small) gripe would be the extended wait times even with an appointment... but given that it's a small salon, it's understandable... plan ahead and allot yourself the extra time, don't go when you're in a rush and you'll be fine! read more

Update: I've been coming here since September and wanted to post an updated review because of how pleased I am with my nails every time! The experience itself is amazing - I usually schedule through Yelp and Amber, the manager, recognizes me as soon as I get there. The staff is incredibly cheerful and they have an awesome selection of polishes and SNS powder which is what I always get. They take a lot of care when removing previous dip powder and soak the powder off for a bit to ensure the removal will be a smooth process. The dip itself is great - it doesn't take very long and they are very skillful with the layers that they apply so that it always looks natural on the nails. I would highly recommend this place! While I was in the city for a mini vacation! I really needed a pick me up so I decided to go get my nails done and I found this place on yelp. I decided to give it a try especially because I was two blocks away! I called them before I showed up and they took me right away I was literally like the only person at the nail shop. I did the lavender and mint spa pedicure which was amazing something I really liked about this place was that they had a 10 minute massage that they time with a clock! So you know you're getting your moneys worth. Well I was there I decided to get a Mani and well my nails were drying they gave me the option of giving me a massage which of course you pay for but I definitely said yes and while my nails were drying I was getting a back massage that was super amazing!! I wish this place was close by to me because I would seriously go every two weeks! And they are super reasonable I think I paid everything with tip $60! I've been coming to Astone Nail Lounge for almost 3 years ever since I moved to the neighborhood. I have always been very happy with the service and prices. I have gotten dip powder, extensions, gel manis, regular manis, pedicure, basically everything over the years and each time has been great! Amber, the manager, is the sweetest - fun to talk to, always remembers my preferences even though she has so many customers, and does a great job every time. Great experience! Cheng did my gel manicure and really took her time to make it look good, so just make sure you have plenty of time. The place is clean and they were conscious of what would be good/bad for my nails. The color selection was pretty good. The gel was $30, plus $2.65 tax so reasonably priced for the area. After the UV curing she put these gloves with moisturizer inside on me and massaged my palms. Pretty nice. The other cool thing that i hadn't seen before were these hand protector gloves they put on that protect your hand from the UV? Interesting. Great that you can pay with card and tip too. I will most likely be back for more. Update: I went back to try SNS dip because my gel habits are not great (I peel them off myself when it starts lifting off the nail/chips). Daisy did an awesome job and was patient with me while i decided whether or not to go for the shiny top coat (or keep them matte). Astone Nails is conveniently located on E 25th Street between 3rd and 2nd Avenues close to the 23rd Street 6 line station and several bus lines. The place itself is clean, cozy, and bright with a ton of regular/gel/powder varieties. The ladies who work there - Amber, Shawn, Katie, etc.- are all nice and welcoming. The dip powder is amazing and long lasting and the atmosphere there is nice but here's why the rating isn't higher... Biggest problem for me is the quality and pricing. I started coming here early November 2018 looking for a decent nail salon nearby my apt. The first time I got a regular pedicure and dip powder manicure with two colors ended up costing me around $80 which isn't cheap but the powder did last almost a month! Second time I went late Nov/early Dec 2018 for gel manicure $30 with two colors one nail with a design ($10 extra). It would've been fine and worth the nearly 90 minutes it took to do it if it didn't start to chip just days after. I had to pay extra for two colors since one was a chrome color. I understand paying extra for the design but really? And it's not listed anywhere on the price list. I contacted Amber, the manager, and told her what happened and she said they have a 7 day fix policy. I come in the following week to get my nail color fixed. A few days later the color started to chip off other nails despite putting more lacquer on them. It was a bit dangerous with jagged edges and uneven color so by barely a week in after the "fixing session" I took off the gel myself. I contacted Amber again and told her what happened and asked for a 50% discount next time. Last and final time I went was last Wednesday 12/26 (it's now 12/30). I got gel again to see if things would improve (it didn't). Same thing happened literally 1 1/2 days after I got my nails done it started to chip (see photo). Also after it was finished Shawn told that it would be 50% the gel price which I expected, I also got a regular pedicure so that's $23 and then she tells me its $10 extra for the cateye color I chose! What?! So instead of it being $38 it was $53. You didnt think to tell me this beforehand after all that's happened?!? And to top it off my nail started to chip. I was mad. I reached out to Amber to let her know and she asked me to come back to get it fixed but I won't be doing that. Again the powder does last and should for $45 but beware of all the hidden fees (and not so great quality gel). They do charge to take off gel polish or so I heard from another client during the "fixing session". read more

I was able to be seen as a quick walk in without any issues. I came in the evening. I wanted a regular manicure. They filed my nails so well and did a good job with the buffing and cuticle cutting. They were very fast, perhaps a little too fast. I thought they painted my nails a little too quickly and didn't wait enough between coats. As I let my nails dry, I saw tiny bubbles and this confirmed my doubt. That night itself, I got cracks in the polish, the next day I got even more cracks and a tiny chip on one finger. Another day later, I got so much more chipping on other nails I thought it wasn't worth keeping it on and took it off. Can't believe this is how it looked after 2 days. When I do my nails at home it lasts longer. I've attached a photo of how it looked at day 2. I love the color and the way they did it, I just wish it lasted longer. Super cute salon! I went and got a regular pedicure and a power manicure. I'm not sure who did my regular pedicure, but it was one of the best Ive had in a while, it hasn't even chipped yet and it's been a week! Take note though there aren't massage chairs, which was a little bit of a bummer. My manicure is the best I've ever had in the city before! It's been a week and it still looks good as new. Decided to venture out and try a different spot this time. This place fit my criteria perfectly! It was nearby, reasonably priced, clean and cozy. I called pretty late in the day so I was expecting an alternative response to the one I got. I was hoping to walk in and thats exactly what they accommodated for. Once I got there I was super indecisive about which color to get - typically overwhelmed by all the options. Amber, who ended up doing my nails was able to help me find the perfect shade of blue I was looking for. She was not only patient and sweet, but did a great job. Let me start off by saying Amber is great! She single handedly salvaged this 2 star situation. That being said, this place has a couple kinks to work out. First off, it seems like the type of place that "takes appointments" but doesn't really honor them. Multiple women walked in off the street and straight into a chair. Minutes later someone with an appointment shows up and has to wait. Personally I made an appointment and was seated right away, but it seemed like dumb luck. No complaints as far as the pedicure, although the tech seemed kind of irritated when I realized the color I'd selected was translucent, and asked to switch for a more opaque version. Keep in mind she had only painted one nail. The SNS manicure was a different story. I realize this type of manicure is difficult; not any Joe Schmo can do it without lumps. That's why I came to this place, because of all the great pictures. Unfortunately the only person that knows what they're doing is Amber. My advice is as follows: 1. Do not let Ann near your SNS nails. Do not let Ann near your nails in general. She messed up my SNS then moved on to another girl and messed up her gel manicure. By the end of the night she was doing dirty laundry while other people fixed her work. Amber saved the day, but the whole experience took over 2 hours. Gigi seemed like a good second choice, then Amy. 2. Do your manicure first. My appointment was for 6:30 PM. I got my pedicure done first. Another girl came in at 7:00 PM and was seated at the manicure table. I sat next to her 5 minutes later. Amber did her nails because she was seated first. I got Ann. 3. If you're picky about colors (me), check your SNS after the first nail. The color doesn't change when it dries (which I guess I knew) but I only splurge for SNS every couple months so I forgot. After the first coat, they can't cover with another color or it will be splotchy. I ended up rocking this weird pink I've seen my grandma wear. Don't be me. Overall I left satisfied but not thrilled like I thought I would be. I appreciate the time Amber spent to make sure I was happy and the $5 courtesy voucher she gave me. The price was great (SNS $35 and pedicure $18) but a sign from August said their prices would be changing September 1st. Today is September 5th. Not sure if that is still going to happen or if it happened already. I think I could have a 5 star experience if were to go back, now that I know what to expect. read more

I was pretty satisfied with my nails until yesterday. I got SNS extension about week ago (1/30), and it came out super pretty and the color matched my skin color really well so I was really happy. But yesterday when I was taking a shower I noticed that gaps were already forming between the extension and my nail and my hair was starting to stick inside it when I washed my hair. And today morning my thumb extension just suddenly fell out.
