The handyman came out to "install" a new wall AC unit. He was told in advance that he would need to install a larger sleeve because the sleeve from the previous unit would be too small. I was quoted $120 for the job. My budget was $200, so I figured I would give it a go. Instead of installing the wall sleeve in the wall, he literally did nothing to cut and frame a larger space for the wall AC and just screwed the entire sleeve to the exterior of my house, not even bothering to caulk it. When I called him back to complain he tried to tell me that this was an acceptable way to install a wall AC and I didn't have to worry about water getting in my house and causing damage. He is dishonest and hopes that you're stupid enough to not know that he didn't do the job he was hired to do. If you value your home, I would absolutely avoid hiring Califax for your handyman needs.

Last, but far from least, they saved the old dimensional lumber from the shed (and lumber from the steps) that could be salvaged and stacked it neatly for another use. I used Justin to construct a custom media center for my TV. He did an excellent job. I haven't ever…read moreseen a contractor as meticulous as Justin is with his work. At the moment Justin is a one-man operation, and as a result he will require more time to complete his job than the big boys (e.g. California Closets when it comes to custom built-ins). The big boys, though, use particle board (whereas Justin uses birch plywood) and farm out the manufacturing operation to a factory to get things cut quick and have a install design (whereas Justin cuts everything himself in his own home, transports it himself and has to do all the alignments himself). I thought I had a civil engineer in my house measuring the curvature of my walls, that is how detailed he is. I asked Justin about what other kinds or work he does. He does all kinds of remodeling, including bathrooms among other things (although he will contracts out the plumbing for example). The big guys generally have a lead time of like 2-3 months. Justin's lead time is probably 1 month or so. He is extremely flexible. Very punctual too. I highly recommend him.
