While he was there to provide the quote, he noticed the kitchen floor was really cold (he took off his shoes when he entered the house). He pulled out his thermal camera and we saw the floor was 30-40F! I had noticed that area of the kitchen was cold in winter, but didn't realize it was coming from the floor, where kitchen is cantilevered out past the foundation wall. He proposed insulating the cantilevered area with spray foam, and then said he could insulate all the rim joists in the basement for the same price. A week or so later, while he was onsite doing the insulating, I mentioned I was going to finish the basement later in the year, and expected to use 3 inch foam panels. He suggested using spray foam instead since that would give me a few inches more space in the room. He gave me a price and I said I'd think about it. As I thought about it, I realized getting a few more inches in the room, and also getting a better sealing product would be worth it, and would save me many hours of labor and a lot of material costs. In summer, I started work on the basement project, and once I had the framing up and electrical roughed in, I called (now July) to schedule the spray foam. Randy honored the price from January, scheduled the job quickly, and it looks great! Something I especially appreciate about Randy and Paragon is that the guy who quotes the job actually does the job; it's not some sales guy, it's the owner who quotes AND does the work! Because of that, any questions get answered and you know exactly who is accountable for quality and completion. I did get other quotes for the attic, and Paragon was very competitive. I really appreciated Randy's suggestions, and they did not feel like a sales pitch; it felt like I was getting good options to consider that would solve a problem I had.

The scope of work included removal of the existing insulation, air sealing around all attic entry points, sanitizing, air baffle installation, and installation of new Weather Blanket cellulose insulation. The new cellulose achieves an R-value that meets or exceeds Illinois code requirements. Paragon's pricing was competitive, though admittedly a bit higher than some of the larger corporate outfits. What made the difference was Randy's willingness to walk me through the entire plan and clearly explain what justified the investment. That transparency, combined with the comfort of working with a local, owner-operated business, made the decision easy. The crew came in and completed the job in about half a day -- fast, efficient, and clean. The entire process was documented with photos and videos, all of which were included with the final invoice. The price they quoted me was around $3,000, and I've included some pictures below. What concerns me most is the lack of trust I now have in their recommendations. I previously hired this company to do tuckpointing work for me. About three years later, I contacted them about touching up a few areas, and I was told the work was already in bad shape. When I reminded them that they were the ones who had performed the original work, the response was essentially, "Oh, we can just repair these couple of bricks. It's not a big deal." After that experience, and now being presented with what I believe is an unnecessarily expensive repair, I simply don't feel comfortable doing business with this company anymore. When you hire a company and spend good money on their work, you expect fair pricing, honest recommendations, and quality workmanship. Unfortunately, that's not the experience I had.

The outside condenser coil was extremely dirty with dust, dog hair, etc, and he got that all cleaned up. It also needed a capacitor, refrigerant, etc. I went with their Royal Maintenance club which saved me money on the repairs, and they will also be back in the fall to do maintenance on the furnace which is included. I first hired Air Kings to install a new AC unit at my home late in the season 2024. Although that…read moreunit needed service in just the first full season of use, I still felt pretty good about Omar and his company. I purchased two seasonal maintenance checks from them last year. During the 1st maintenance check in November 2025 he had informed me that the blower motor in my furnace was leaking oil. But I declined service at that time and my furnace worked fine all winter. When he came for the 2nd maintenance check on May 6 he told me the blower was still leaking oil and should be replaced. But he also said my 13 year old furnace was old enough that I should just get an entirely new furnace. Either option was a very big expense and I needed to consider what to do. But the very next morning the heat did not come on, it was 60° in my house with the thermostat set at 67°. Omar came back out and he was clearly annoyed, a major change in his personality. He showed me a blinking light on my furnace, told me it was a malfunction code that confirmed I needed a new blower motor. I told him it was a very bad and uncomfortable coincidence that my blower motor suddenly didn't work the morning after he had done the seasonal maintenance. He became very angry, raised his voice and said "What are you trying to say?! I don't like what you're accusing me of!" His belligerence was very unprofessional so I told him I would get another opinion and asked him to leave. Two hours later a technician from a different company told me my blower motor was sealed with internal lubricant and was not leaking at all. He also said my furnace was nowhere near old enough to need replacing. As I watched, he tested a capacitor that had failed and replaced it, which totally fixed the problem. It took 10 minutes at a total cost of $225. If Omar had been honest with me I would've bought that capacitor from him and he would still have me as a customer. Because I trusted him. And that was my mistake. There are only 2 possibilities- Either Omar totally misdiagnosed what was wrong with my furnace and really did believe the only option was to replace the blower motor, if not the entire furnace, OR he simply wanted to sell me very costly repairs I couldn't afford. I don't know which is true. But he does. Needless to say, I would never do business with Air Kings again.

I was referred to Chicagoland Heating & Cooling by my home warranty company. My heater wasn't…read moreworking and was blowing cool air so I wanted to get it fixed before the winter months. The home warranty company gave me dates of availability but Steve called me right away asking if he could come out the following day. He advised that my heater needed a cleaning, and told me what the issue was. I know he didn't try to upsell or provide unnecessary services as a prior serviceman told the home warranty company the same thing and I knew it was not covered Steve fixed the issue and cleaned the heater within 1.5 hours. He was extremely professional, showed me where the issue was and how it wasn't working. Great service and I would highly recommend.

Steve's office called seconds after the claim was filed, I had not even gotten off the call with the warranty company. That's some fast office work! Unfortunately no same day appointments were available so they set up a next day morning appointment. Steve showed up on time and brought all the necessary tools and parts for the repair. He was nice to speak to and highly focused on his work. The job was completed quickly and Steve avoided conversation until he finished the repair so as to maintain focus and reduce delays in the repair due to chatting. Having no A/C is no fun! Some reviewers mention rudeness and arrogance, we got none of that, maybe he was having a bad day on those service calls. He was very quiet during the repair process but pleasant and easy to work with at the end of the repair process. If you are looking for an HVAC contractor who knows their stuff Steve's company is a good choice to look into!
