I enjoyed both the tour and a cocktail in the barroom afterwards. The tour was a fairly typical whiskey tasting tour, with our knowledgeable guide explaining their whiskey making processes, including unique takes, the history of ASW, and well as taking us back to where some barrels were stored where, of course, we had a tasting. We stayed for a drink afterwards in the barroom, where the cocktails were reasonably priced and delicious. They also have non-whiskey based cocktails for those who prefer gin or vodka. The bartenders were also knowledgeable, and the room itself has a somewhat masculine feel with, big couches, wood and metal seats/tables, and some barroom games. read more

A friend gifted me with a behind-the-scenes tour of ASW Distillery for my birthday last fall, and I finally got to enjoy the experience today! We had a wonderful time, and left with several bottles of our new favorite spirits. Miriam was terrific - she gave my wife and I a private tour and explained everything from how the company founders met as students at UGA and went on to start American Spirit Whiskey, which has an innovative approach to crafting high quality spirits. We're not big rye fans, but we sampled and loved the Resurgens Rye, and also flipped over Duality. It's super smoky and is going to improve my Old Fashioneds by a million percent. Finally, the Winterville gin is some of the best I've ever tasted - very floral and light. Get the strawberry gimlet if you have time for a cocktail, and you'll see what I mean! The tasting room is industrial chic, and the space is just big enough to feel intimate while allowing folks space to relax. Couldn't recommend ASW any more! read more

I came with some friends for a St. Patrick's day whiskey tasting! It was super easy to find and there's plenty of parking in the lot or on the street. Our guide Colleen was awesome and very patient which we appreciated as we came a little late! When we arrived, we went into one of the large back rooms with barrels lined all over the walls. I was surprised how big the location was! We had multiple whiskeys to taste and Colleen did a great job entertaining us with stories about the distillery's history and was super knowledgeable about the distilling process! This was my first time coming to ASW and they did not disappoint! I signed up for their St. Patrick's your on Friday evening with Colleen as our guide. She was really patient given we were a little late with the rain which we greatly appreciated! Once we walked in, we were greeted and walked back to a room with barrels. We each had a place may with our tasting whiskies laid out and the descriptions for each which was awesome! Colleen did an excellent job giving us an introduction to whiskey and some direction on how to taste and some history which was awesome! She did a great job the whole tour. We tasted 2 of the whiskies and then went on the tour of the rest of the facility and she talked us through the whole distilling process. And then we finished the tasting. It was all super fun and the Druid Hill whiskey was tasty and the gin we tried was great too. Colleen was an excellent tour guide and I am so glad we came by! Can't wait to come back. read more

Not really a whiskey or bourbon drinker but came here for an event and had a great time. It's a really cool vibe inside the tasting room with some couches and some high-too seating options. Originally I thought to order a float to taste different kinds since I'm not really sure what I like when it comes to whiskey but the host nice bartender suggested I do a cocktail so I'm not drinking the liquor straight. They offer vodka cocktails too but I was immured to the whiskey since that's their thing. Unsure of what to get, I went with the old fashioned and it did not disappoint! It was so smooth and if I had not been driving probably would have pounded a few more. Asw distillery is a cool place to check out for aficionados and casual sippers. The staff here is very knowledgeable on their drinks and offer great suggestions based on what your likes are. They have an interesting pairing menu which you can a drink up with a ice cream pop. I was recommended the fiddler by my colleague so I picked that and it was paired with the banana pudding ice cream pop. Who would've thought that pairing would work and work very well. My group didn't sign up for a tour but the team at ASW was so nice and offered us to tag a long with the crew that signed up so we got to step back to see the machinery and hear how the process goes. There's available tours for the distillery & tasting options for most menu items. Pre made cocktails were also available on tap. Outside seating is available & there's small amenities such as bean bag throwing. Seating can be difficult if the place is crowded but I'd be comfortable staring that this place is a must for whiskey aficionados. read more

Took a buddy of mine to a whiskey tasting day (his birthday) on me to several points of interest in Atlanta. Here was the first step. ASW ( stands for American Spirit Works)) located in the back alley past Sweetwater Brewery in North Buckhead off 85 from 75. We were the first to arrive to what they would say a understated adult play room. After a flight of whiskeys/bourbons, your choice of 4 for. Reasonable price of 24 dollars. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Understanding the nuances of each bourbon and able to convey in spoken language is to be noted. We enjoys all but the last sample which was a brandy. However being a chef, I could see how the flavor profile could work in a dessert. Caramel apple notes with a hint of nutmeg and raw alcohol. Hmmm Shortly after we finished the flight they called for a gangle and we entered the back room for a discussion and tour of the distillery. Very talented gentleman, knowledgeable and humorous. Great in describing why they won so many medals and recognition for the whiskeys and bourbons they carry. Different price points on different limited quantity bottles of bourbons. If you are looking for something different this is a good place to start...I would suggest going in the early evening to go at it all night. Cheers! read more

The event I came for was; Atlanta's Hometown Whiskey Distillery ASW Distillery presents Whiskey and Comedy Night! The hosts, Andrew Stanley and Dedrick Flynn coupled Conedy with ASW's award winning selection of whiskey and cocktails. It was a fun time. The bartenders were so friendly with great suggestions. We got 5 tokens for drinks. This comedyshowcase definitely kept things "PG-13". And made a few digs at the audience. It was a memorable night filled with delicious drinks (including ASW's galaxy-renowned 2nd Best Old Fashioned which was delicious), laughter, and all around good times. What a cool place. Allison was so knowledgeable about the vodka,gin and bourbons that were sold here. She introduced us to the other Staff members. She was so personable. We really enjoyed our time there. We walked in to buy a bottle of bustletown. This is their own vodka that they distill. We ended up getting so much more. So much that goes in to making/distilling the different bourbons they have. We were able to try different flavors. It was just a great experience. My husband really loved the bourbons and I personally loved their vodka. It's called bustletown and it is very clean. Dare I say as good as if not better the T bran I normally drink. Stopped in here on a not-so-busy Sunday with a date. The large tasting room has black walls with a chalkboard denoting the barrels and their ages. The bartender was really knowledge about the approximately 13 different bottles they had to choose from . We got a flight of 5, 1oz pours and split it. None of them were bad, some of them were great. One of the managers stopped by our table to see how we were enjoying ourselves and we spoke about flavor profiles for a while. I went for a tour and tasting on May 16th + could not have better things to say. We were greeted by Halley, who was also our bartender for the evening. She couldn't have been nicer. For a novice whisky drinker, she explained in detail the different options they had available. I had the American Spirit Silver Whisky mixed with cucumber + lime soda. It was fantastic! After looking around and getting our drinks, Chad, their Chief Acorn Officer, gave us a tour of their facility, shared some humor with experiences in building their facility and shared lots of great information. I follow a few Instagram blogs, and I came across a picture of ASW while scrolling one night. I've never been a beer girl, so breweries don't excite me. I like a good whiskey and vodka sometimes, so I was excited to visit. ASW Distillery didn't let me down. ASW hasn't been open to the public for very long, but I understand why. I like being able to see how something is made, taste it by itself, and in a cocktail. ASW is one distillery that allows me to do all three. It's right around the corner from Sweetwater Brewery and is in the same industrial complex as the Stave Room event venue. I really like the colors and the layout. There were sofas, high top tables, and a nice sized bar. They have all of the merch you need, from shirts, tasting glasses, mixers, to mason jars. I saw a room that was roped off called "Research and Development." It was decorated with plush chairs and couches, and what looked like a ping pong table. Jim, one of the owners, took us through the entire process. We were able to get surprisingly close to the copper still and stand right above the vats that hold the "heads and tails." Jim mentioned their carbon footprint, and I was impressed. The grain that isn't used for the whiskey, is given to a local farmer. His cows love it because it gets really hot and the grain still holds a lot of moisture. The tour lasted about 30 minutes and their hours are typically from 2-5 or later on a Saturday. Their prices range from $7-60 and can include tastings, glasses, and bottles. Each time a tour is starting, they ring a bell. They had a specialty drink that you could taste with the whiskey or their limited edition White Dog moonshine. Everyone seemed to be drinking and having a good time. I can tell everyone enjoys what they do; I chatted with one bartender who told me about ALL of the licenses they had to get just to make and serve the alcohol in Atlanta. While we were talking, he says hello to man he called "pops." His dad was there to support :) ASW seems to be a family and friend run operation. I hope in the future there will be enough distilleries, wineries, breweries, and hard cideries to form tours. Atlanta is growing fast, and anyone can go to a bar, but there are plenty of "whiskey nerds" out there who are interested.I will definitely be going again and bringing friends, I want to try the bourbon! read more

I came to ASW for a network under 40 event who had organized a private tasting. Asw has been there only for a couple of weeks, just a couple of alcohol enthusiasts on live with the dream of making their own spirits. They currently have two different clear whiskers (because young alcohol that hasn't been ages will start out clear in the beginning and darken over age). Their original spirit as well as an infusion of coffee, chocolate, and pepper called "white dog" White dog was a little strong for me as its really potent but that's alright, because it was made to be aged. The space is neat, a revamped warehouse with a neat bar made for tasting settings just like this. I was able to snap a few pics before I got distracted. What I enjoyed the most was the tour we got with the tasting. A sneak peak behind the scenes and explanation of the entire distillation process. Absolutely enjoyed it. They are still very new so definitely come out and give them some community support. I definitely think this is a nice place to chill and sip away. Carry on. read more

This place was so awesome!! When I walked in the decor made me think right away that I was going to have a good experience and the girl that greeted me was super nice! They were totally dog friendly, which made it easier on us so we were able to sit inside. Favorite was probably the Ameireaganach, but the Fiddler and the Duality (Double Malt), were a close second. Looking forward to the Fiddler Georgia Heartwood... Went here for a Halloween event and loved this place! Feels like a hidden gem! The staff were incredible- kind and helpful and knowledgeable. The whiskey was great- some I loved, some not so much. During tasting hours, you can grab a tour and three tastings for less than $10, or opt to add a take-home bottle purchase to your tasting/tour for an extra $20-50. Right now ASW has four offerings at the bar (a couple others are in the works, and special releases like The White Dog and the Monday Night collaboration occasionally pop up in the tasting room): - Armour & Oak, an apple brandy that's bright and floral, like a crisp summer apple pie that's topped with a dollop of fresh whipped cream. - Fiddler Whiskey, a toasty foraged bourbon with a touch of heat that goes down easy whether it's neat (my favorite way to enjoy it), on the rocks, or mixed into an Old Fashioned or toddy (my second favorite way to enjoy it). - American Spirit Whiskey, a very lightly aged silver whiskey that's sort of a bridge between vodka and whiskey (think lemonade, ginger mules, brunch, warm weather outings). - Resurgens Rye, which is actually the first Rye distilled in Atlanta since prohibition! With notes of cocoa and graham cracker, Resurgens is my favorite - it's something like a craft whiskey turned adult s'mores in a glass. Super smooth, nice and rich but not too sweet, a little heat. The profile on it reminds me of a mellow Scotch. The distillery itself is really lovely - gleaming copper stills, airy loft feel, cozy leather sofas and chairs. There's always a good playlist on if you're inclined to hang out awhile as you enjoy libations. Sweetwater Brewery is right around the corner if you want to hit a twofer tour (whiskey before beer, in the clear!). If you're looking for local gifts, there's a mercantile inside the distillery to shop - 1821 Bitters, Glencairn glasses, tees and hats, candles, cute dog collars, antique glassware sets and cufflinks. You can also rent ASW out for private events. I don't typically write reviews and micro distilleries, more often than not, disappoint me. I did production for one distillery for a bit and toured the Kentucky bourbon trail twice. That being said, I was fortunate enough to be taking my medical boards in Atlanta this month. I stopped in after receiving a recommendation from a local. Incredibly surprised to find really good, quality whiskey. I bought two bottles and hope to find a way to bring more to Virginia. As part of my search for the craft spirit experience I found this place online and made the trip to check it out. The tasting room is top notch and the guys working were very chill and knowledgeable. Got to spend some time with the owners and master distiller and after sampling their products came away a fan. Their white dog is very well done and I have to say after sitting in a barrel for a few days it tastes even better. Their American Spirit whiskey is young but suprisingly smooth. I had bought a bottle to bring home and experiment with but was most disappointed to get it home and find it had opened in my luggage. If I have a complaint about this place that would be the only one. The bottle only had a piece of tape across the top of it to keep the cork in and it didn't help. Brought 3 other bottles back from other places and they all rode just fine in checked luggage being packaged well, only the inferior packaging of the AWS bottle failed. So if you make it here and decide to fly home with a bottle you will have to make sure you secure the cork yourself. Other than that the offerings here as well as the people working on the product are top notch. This place is just around the corner from Sweetwater Brewing so make your trip a twofer! read more
