Seven of us (six sinners and Father Ron) recently broke bread after Mass... our monthly ritual, although there are about 20 churches and 30 eateries on our dance card. Our wait time wasn't too long considering the somewhat smallish interior. Once seated, service was good. Our orders were varied. I had a Swiss and Jalapeno omelet, rye toast, no potatoes. Demanding Dan had his usual meat lover's omelet (double sausage, bacon, no ham). Newbie Garrett had an amazing egg sandwich with a month's worth of bacon. Food was very good, as was service. Note: only commenting on rules. Didn't end up eating here. I stopped at 11.15 am for a late breakfast, but was told only lunch is served after 11. You would think that when only 2 tables are occupied and a new (or any) customer enters an exception might be made. But - their restaurant, their choice. We were in Broad Brook last Saturday & found At The Dam on Yelp with great reviews. Parking lot was packed and the outside didn't reflect the reviews but SO GLAD we went in! Cute place, bigger than what it looks like from outside, clean, and wait staff were super nice! We had scrambled eggs, bacon (DELICIOUS and generous portions of thick cut bacon) home fries & toast. Friendly atmosphere - we were next to a family from NJ who were heading to the Trolley Museum after breakfast and chatted them up. We will be visiting again! read more

Pretty good breakfast fare from a very local diner-esque feel Came here on a whim, looking for french toast and a new place to try. Saw this one had a lot of good reviews, so they were my choice to try. Staff were friendly, if not slightly bored. They greeted me quickly and got me seated at the stools. I got a menu and saw one of their specials was a french toast with lots of marshmallows. So I was intrigued, and ordered that along with some bacon. Needed some form of protein to go with my dessert. The first mistake was that I did not realize that there was a choice. I could choose french toast or pancakes, and the server never confirmed what I was looking for. So when I got the dish, it was pancakes. Kinda was a little upset about that, but decided to give it a shot anyways. chalked it up to my lack of coffee. I do order a cup, it's kind of a generic jet fuel drip coffee. Nothing special, over seeped and bitter. nothing a creamer and a little salt won't fix. The pancakes were cooked well and mounded with creamy marshmallow fluff and lots of mini-marshmallows. The top pancake was drowned in the marshmallow, but the bottom pancake was just a straight up pancake. Kinda hoped they would put a dollop of marshmallow between the two, but didn't get it. the only other thing that would've been nice is if they either broiled or scorched the mini-marshmallows while on top of the pancake. Having that browned or burnt sugar bite would've made these stellar. maybe they can do a smores one and crumble gram crackers and chocolate chips along with the marshmallows then broil the top? The powdery finish of the mini-marshmallows was okay, but slightly detracted from the flavors of the plate. Bacon was plenty crispy, but kind of generic. Nothing special to write home about. Overall, not a bad showing. They put out good food at a reasonable price. They're not the prettiest place around, but they serve good food. They just need to work on their dishes just a little bit, and they can be awesome! Worth a shot if you're in the area! read more

In Broad Brook. You will find a small restaurant with that small town charm. Very friendly staff. Small and simple menu. I personally would have liked to seen a little bit more on the lunch menu. Like grilled chicken salad. But Its good to see soup on the menu. I love corned beef hash. And really enjoy ordering that. And love when the places make their own. Which here they do. Dam! This place is phenomenal! I love trying out diners, looking for classic un-modernized dives with great food - this place was amazing. It's set in a building from the 1800's, originally a pharmacy I believe, and has a great feel to it with original counter stools and lots of character. We went at 10:30am on a Sunday and while the place was full, only waited 5 minutes for a table. The wait for food was a little long and my only complaint, but not enough to knock a star off this place. The waitresses were extremely friendly and were working their tails off. They kept the coffee mugs full, served great classic American diner breakfast at a reasonable price in great atmosphere. One of my top diners in the area read more

We wanted a quick lunch one recent Saturday afternoon, and we didn't want to make it ourselves. At the Dam seemed to fit the bill, so we decided to check it out. We were seated right away, and our orders were taken fairly quickly. However, over an hour passed between our arrival and when our meals finally arrived. At one point, our waitress apologized, but no explanation was given (they weren't particularly busy-- there were at most three other tables seated during our entire visit), and the food was unfortunately not worth the wait. The cheese in my husband's grilled cheese (yes, an hour for grilled cheese) wasn't melted, for example. While our waitress was nice enough, her friendly disposition didn't make up for the unreasonable wait and sub-par food. I'm sure that under different circumstances, At the Dam might have earned an extra star, or even two, but on this particular occasion we weren't very happy customers. read more

A colleague and I were looking for a good luncheon spot on a Sunday at noon, and a few inquiries got him a recommendation for At the Dam. I'd echo that, now; it was a real treat. The restaurant is tucked into a small building near the opera house in Broad Brook, which has some charm and history, but also feels just a little bit lost and forgotten. Inside, it feels like a classic lunch counter, with more nods to nostalgia than to remixing and old theme. The Sunday menu (offering breakfast only) is very straightforward, offering various omelets, eggs, pancakes, french toast, and breakfast sandwiches. Our waitress was quick and attentive, and very helpful with our questions. My friend was careful to order lightly (he had a big evening planned), so the two-piece serving of french toast was a very helpful item for him. I decided to go with a western omelet. Our beverages arrived very quickly, and I quickly learned that every single server in the place was eager to be helpful, as they'd ask about my coffee or my colleague's iced tea whenever one came by. It's pretty clear they hold the notion that everyone is their customer, and they do it very well. When my omelet arrived, my first though was that it was massive. It was positively chock-full of the onion, ham, and green pepper that are the usual ingredients in the dish, plus a very generous layer of cheese folded in. And somehow, the eggs were incredibly light and fluffy. I can't remember having much better. The home fries were flavorful, and I enjoyed the six-grain bread that was among the toast offerings, though I was only able to eat a single slice of it. If I worked in the neighborhood, I'd probably be here every workday - and they'd probably have to widen the door eventually to let me in and out. read more

You can't get more "local" than "At The Dam"...a small eatery tucked away in the broad brook section of east Windsor. have had breakfast and lunch there within the past week and all I can say is "WOW!!". No fancy frills here...just delicious home cooking. Breakfast features delicious omelet's....I'm basically a sausage and cheese man and I'll say it--best omelets in the area..maybe best omelet I've ever tasted. My wife had a blueberry pancake--again...big and tasty. for lunch I had the bacon cheeseburger...4-5 delicious slices of bacon on top. french fries are crispy and delicious. cooked just right. weight watcher devotees should go elsewhere. if good food served in a friendly atmosphere by a pleasant waitstaff sounds appealing to you....At The Dam should be tried. a little out of the way....but well worth finding. you won't leave hungry!! read more

Great food, casual hometown charm. There are histories of all the town's buildings as well as historical local news articles on the walls, which I think is very charming. Pretty sure these people are racist. Never had a problem until I went with my boyfriend and his father (they are black.) We were seated an hour + and our food never came. We expressed to our waitress that we had over an hour drive to the basketball game we were attending and that we were in a rush after about 45 minutes of waiting for our food. Other families came, ate and left before we finally decided to leave WITHOUT our food. They offered to wrap it for us to go but we declined. Their excuse was that they were "busy." Why did people who came in 20 minutes after us get their food first if that was the case? And how was our food suddenly ready "to-go" when we decided to get up and leave? New to the area and decided to pop in for breakfast for the first time. I sat at the bar top and the waitress behind the counter was lack luster and honestly looked like she hated her job. I got a breakfast sandwich to play it safe, while it was huge it was just your average bacon, egg and cheese. My second visit I decided to bring my family from out of town and give it another go. Food and service were mediocre and again it seemed that the kitchen staff was more enthusiastic and friendly towards us than the server (same chick as the first visit). Breakfast was average again. I love the Dam. i came here for the first time about a year ago for breakfast and i refuse to go anywhere else now. Ive never been for lunch or dinner but i highly reccomend the breakfast. The pancakes are massive and the home fries are just like my gramma used to make. The owner is a doll and the wait staff is all very friendly. I love the fact that the dishes and cups are miss matched it, to me, gives it a more homey feel. I will return over and over as long as donna is cookin :) read more
