My friend and I stopped by The Great Harvest Bread Company for a quick lunch. I had no idea this was a national chain, I have never heard of them before. This particular location is in a small shopping plaza in Vernon. The inside looks like an independent bakery. They have a huge assortment of breads, they can make sandwiches upon request or from the menu. Additionally they also make salads, cookies and coffee. I'll have to note, the two teenage girls working here weren't friendly, welcoming or capable of smiling, maybe they are new, but something needs to change. I got the Turkey Goddess sandwich on Wheat Seeded Bread. I also got an iced coffee. They serve Peet's coffee. This combo was only $13. This bread was very fresh, flavorful and covered in seeds. It was filled with tomato, onion, lettuce, Havarti cheese, avocado spread and turkey. It also came with a pickle, but it was way too salty for me. This sandwich was very filling, fresh and tasty. My friend got a similar one and she also enjoyed it. read more

We got the cranberry orange bread. Came home and made French toast with homemade cranberry orange honey butter. Delicious!!

When we went inside we instantly smelled the smell of homemade bread and when we ordered we got our food pretty quick and my roast beef and cheese sandwich was amazing everyone rated their sandwich 9/10. It was pretty empty so it was a nice place to sit down and they had the heater on when it was freezing so if you just want to get your food quickly and sit down I would definitely recommend. read more

I used to buy their bread years ago in Mnch. They are currently in Vernon. I love the food here. I have had two fabulous meals here - a salad and a brkfst sandwich. The service is so good I wish everywhere else practiced the same methods and values. Wow! I joined their "insiders club" and can get a free sandwi h or a free frsh baked bread loaf! That is awesome. So, I have reviewed here before but I wanted to another review because we had different food. We ordered sandwiches tonight on their white bread, which they have daily. I had there Ham-wiian sandwich with a sweet mustard, I believe it was a pineapple mustard. Fabulous! The sandwich was obviously freshly made, the babies were super fresh. My husband had a roast beef sandwich, which he said was very delicious. I had made a chicken soup during the day and these sandwiches went great with it. Highly recommend their sandwiches! read more

Although I dint have plans to make a trip here, I did and I'm glad. I was in the area finishing up just before Thanksgiving shopping and realized my bread was over, yelp to my rescue once again. I quickly called in to check if they had any sourdough breads and yes I was lucky. The bakery has tons of selection of delicious breads, cookies and more, they also serve sandwiches. The sourdough was around 6$, the loaf was little big to the standard store bought breads. Definitely the sourdough was of a great quality and had the flavor right on! I was HAPPY Great Harvest had a masks mandatory sign! Even if you are fully vaccinated, it's best to wear a mask inside public buildings because vaccinated people can still carry and transmit the virus--and they can still get a breakthrough case of Covid. Until we know more and until more folks get vaxxed so we can reach herd immunity, masks are important. So, the 5 stars is for the masks required and also for the wonderful bread. I have had G.H.'s bread in other locations, well, other states, actually, because Vernon is really out of the way for us. Bread is amazing and loaves are a good size. I also bought 3 sandwiches to enjoy with a friend, too, but was a bit disappointed as there wasn't much of the chicken salad filling inside them (unlike the photos which do show very fat sandwiches!) In addition, I'd like to suggest you open a shop in say, Cheshire, CT or Hamden or New Haven. You will have a very brisk business in these areas!!!! read more

I been wanting to visit this store a long time now... I was so excited I finally did ... The Vernon location is inconvenient coz we hardly have any reason to go to that part of town... I wish they had never moved from Manchester. I went there for lunch today, had the harvest veggie sandwich nothing special about the sandwich same old,same old .... Pesto, tomato,cucumber, onion and cheese on 9 grain bread....but, then why did it taste sooooo good.. I had half a sandwich at the bakery and the other half wrapped up to-go for later.... A simple sandwich, outrageous taste .... The minute I took a bite I just couldn't stop eating ... I went to my car and ate the other half in the car... I just couldn't resist to wait for "later" (when ever that was goin to be) ..... Guys, I'm telling you once you have tasted real bread there is no turning back to the department store bread ever again... This is wat real food tastes like ... Good ingredients make good quality food... And this bakery is proof of that. Check the list to see which speciality bread (Dakota, autumn apple, cinnamon chip) is made on which day ... They have honey wheat bread and some others made everyday of the week. I generally go here for lunch. Last time I went for a breakfast. Unfortunately they still don't have a breakfast permit. But they happily agreed to make any sandwich in their menu for me. I went for Chimichuri roast beef. It was good. Had some nice flavors. Previously I had spicy pecan chicken and baja chipotle turkey sandwiches from here. I liked the spicy pecan chicken the most followed by baja chipotle turkey and last is chimichuri roast beef. They have latte in their menu, you can make it any latte you want, like vanilla latte. I got a matcha latte. It was alright. I generally don't go for matcha, just went for a change. I took a potato and chive bread home. Bread was ok. Bread, ah yes...our New Years resolution kryptonite!! As soon as you walk in, you are greeted with warm aromas of freshly baked sweet sweet bread. The staff was super friendly. They were easy to talk to and even offered me sample bread. Here is why I cannot give it five stars though: -Location: This place is nice and only two minutes from me, but I feel like the location is random and it always ends up being too late by the time I drive by and realize I would have liked to stop there to grab breakfast or lunch. It's also not the first place I think of meeting a friend because it seems like one of those small bakeries that doesn't have indoor seating and has limited hours like closes early every day and is closed on Mondays (which it does not and surprisingly is open til 630pm almost every day!!). So maybe a little more marketing/signage outside the store/banners? -Food: You'd think since they're open at the crack of dawn they'd have breakfast sandwiches. Nope. They said they're working on it though so something to look forward to! I ended up ordering a lunch sandwich (The Baja Turkey or something) it was ok. It was different from what I expected. I don't plan on giving up so soon though! I will keep you posted on my journey with their menu. read more

I just needed a salad and searched Yelp for salad near me and found this bread gem. On a whim I ordered an everything loaf and a nine grain loaf for my boys and I haven't stopped talking about the bread since. To anyone who will listen! My wedding is 65 days away and I've been little to no carb for months now and this bread might cause me to have to take my dress back out lol. Such great flavor and perfect texture!! Did the nine grain with peanut butter and the grain crunchies are so gooood! Everything with eggs! First time in today after driving by many times. I only had coffee and a chocolate chip cookie. I had an iced mocha ... it was okay ... I think i just didn't love the mocha sauce used (that's always hit or miss for me). I enjoyed that they had an actual espresso machine! I'm looking forward to trying a different latte to see how I like it. I enjoyed the chocolate chip cookie very much. I also grabbed a big bag of croutons that look like they were made with older of their different kinds of bread and they're delicious! I really want to go back and try their cheddar garlic bread which I think is a Thursday bread. It's cool that they have different breads every day. Definitely would like to try more! Won't sell their sourdough starter to customers. They probably think that they have a proprietary starter, but they obviously don't know that starter is territorial, and it doesn't matter where you get your starter from, it always conforms to your territorial baking spot. You may have gotten a great strain from somewhere, but it's the same strain that I already have in my kitchen, a half mile from your store! They suck! read more

Tip: look at the menu online before going to decide what day you want to go because the loaves change daily. I think they have about 5 fresh bread loaf types a day. I typically go on Saturday because the stuffed potato bread is absolutely delicious and I've never seen anything like it anywhere else. I could say that about a lot of the breads I've seen here - they are very unique. Another plus is that you can try a full slice of bread with butter at the counter before you buy it to help you decide. They also have an award program where you get a free loaf of bread after buying a said amount (think it's 10 or 12 loaves). Have tried the scones here which are also good. Still have to try their sandwiches! I rated them a 4/5 only because the prices are a little on the expensive side for the bread loaves. read more

Went to college near the GHBC in Burlington, VT. Loved the bread samples there, the fresh ingredients, and creative flavor combinations. When I saw this location while traveling for work, I was elated! Figured it would share the same quality and same delicious bread I remember. Spoiler: it did not. I got the Baja Turkey on sourdough. The bread itself was very under baked. It could not support the sandwich toppings. The sandwich was dripping with the Baja sauce (odd flavor) and avocado. It fell apart in my hands. Disappointed that a place that calls themselves a bread company falls way short on the bread. Maybe I ordered the wrong sandwich, but I likely won't return to give it a second shot. read more

And we also snagged the last Pepperoni Bread.....Score! They always have samples which makes it harder hence the purchase of the Loaded Potato Bread. You can also get freshly baked scones, Sandwiches, coffee etc. They make different breads each day so check out the list stop loafing around on your coach and grab yourself a loaf or two. People get confused on carbohydrates; do your research and you will find complex carb's like what you find in GH breads are GOOD for you. I absolutely love this place for freshly baked bread and delicious sandwiches! They are always coming out with new breads like pesto parmesan bread (great for dipping in a good olive oil), cheddar potato broccoli, and much more, so I never get bored. Also THEY HAVE THE BEST COOKIES! I enjoy their oatmeal chocolate chip the most because they're cooked to gooey, chewy perfection with chocolate chips (no raisins), and walnuts for an added crunch. One down side, they run out of their more popular selections of breads and cookies early so I am always disappointed if I try to slide in during the afternoon/evening. -V read more

Fresh sandwiches are served daily (10am-3pm) and fresh milled wheat is baked everyday. I have tried a handful of their classics and signature sandwich options. They all come with red onion, lettuce, tomato, salt/pepper and your choice of bread. For $6-7, all of the sandwiches are a bit on the smaller side, but the bread is always super fresh. Extra veggies are no charge, so that's nice! Coffee isn't bad either. Coffee is pre-made, so don't expect to get a pour-over or chemex brew. They serve Peet's (California-based) and prices are very reasonable; lg: $2, md: $1.75, sm: $1.5. There are a few tables to sit and enjoy, but not many electrical outlets available for the professional needing a 3rd space between home and work. OMG! The bread here is soooo freaking good! I can't even!!! I originally stopped in here because my brother was raving about Peet's coffee and this is the only place in the area that brews it. So we stopped in and we also sampled the bread. The sample was not only incredibly generous (huge) but out of this world. So soft, full of flavor and everything you could ever want from bread fresh from the oven. To add to it, the coffee is awesome. Way cheaper than Starbucks and much better. I would frequent their establishment on Main St. Manchester and was very sad that they had a fire that burned down their business and the entire building (another business and the apartments above). Was very happy to stop by this place after a hike on the awesome Vernon Rail Trails with a friend. The sandwiches were excellent. Coffee is GREAT and very good price. I wish they had soups it would have been awesome. They are in a new space but the staff is as friendly, welcoming, and helpful as always. My mouth is watering just thinking of the sandwich, the generous tastes of bread they offer for free, and was very impressed with all the takeaway foods and mixes they had for sale. read more

My husband is a mechanic for CT Transit and a bus was broken down in front of this store today 03/28/2020. in the mist of all this madness you wouldn't expect much from people, at least where we come from. but the owners of this establishment offered my husband (who was stuck outside in the cold and rain) coffee, bread and a place to use the bathroom. their hospitality and genuine care for men like my husband and his co-worker who go out daily to risk their health and safety for public transportation means the world to me. This is a new location, and while I sat there enjoying my (delicious and better than Starbucks) iced hazelnut latte and cinnamon chip scone, at least 20 people must have come in to buy bread (within 10 minutes). Not sure if the line of incoming people is due to the fact that this is a new business in Vernon, or if it's just because the bread is terrific, or both! I ordered the pepper bleu roast beef on some crazy bread the lady recommend and it was really good. My friend got the tuna and she said it's her favorite place to get tuna now. Bought my daughter a loaf of the pepperoni bread as it smelled phenomenal, haven't eaten any yet as she would blast me for eating it before her. Really good bread and really good service! I am happy to have found this spot. A lot of their breads are vegan you just have to ask. I tried one with sunflower seeds and flax I think and it makes a mean avocado toast for breakfast! Will be back! There is seating available I think about 5-6 tables. They do have sandwiches I bought a chipotle turkey one for my friend and he enjoyed it. The service is phenomenal don't be shy to ask questions they are really helpful! read more
