Breakfast this morning w three friends. Two live in Ellington nearby, soooooo Service is exceptional. Several of the waitstaff have been here many years, and know what they're doing. My 3 egg Western omelet was perfectly cooked, and loaded w diced ham, peppers, onion and cheddar. Home fries ok, nothing special. It was my first time at this restaurant. My daughter and I went for breakfast. She ordered the chocolate chip pancakes which were fine. I had the Broccoli and Cheese Omelette. It was the thinnest omelette I've ever had. It was thin like a crepe and the home fries were meh. Service was subpar. Five waitresses on duty and no one came to check on us or give us a refill on beverages. Staff needs training! read more

I met with the guys on May 7, '23 who produced the movie titled "The Supermarket". These are folks who used to work at long-gone Ellington Supermarket (where the movie was filmed). Food was perfect. chili omelet w onions and cheddar cheese was spot on. Coffee was tasty unlike other local places that serve hot brown water. Waitresses were very pleasant and friendly So why the three stars instead of the five... I hate feeling ripped off. This is a cash only place. So when I put a $20 bill down for my omelet and coffee I was handed a $5.00 bill back and was told they have no singles. I'm not going to leave without tipping so I said keep the $5.00. Im good for 20% tipping but this is what I refer to as being ripped off. I'm not a cheap skate nor a big spender but a $3.00 tip for a single person at the counter would have made sense to me. I was put on the spot and said keep the $5.00. It's not about the extra $2.00 I tipped but the manner in which I had to do it. It was either no tip at all or the extra $2.00 bucks. And this is a "cash only" restaurant. They don't have any single bills at all. Give me a break! Chime in to all others who this may have happened to. I smell a scam taking place. read more

This was my first visit to Chuck Wagon. Everyone says it's a great breakfast spot and everyone is correct. When I walked in, I immediately knew breakfast was going to be good. It has that great breakfast vibe. There are booths, tables and a counter with stools for seating. We sat ourselves at a table and were immediately greeted, given menus and asked if we wanted a coffee or something else to drink. The waitresses are all "seniors" and fit the breakfast waitress stereotype to the T. The tables and coffee cups have local advertising on them. So great. The breakfast menu is extensive, with eggs, omelettes, pancakes, waffles, breakfast sandwiches and combination plates. There's something for everyone. I am celiac. The waitress understood immediately and offered GF bread or toast. I had a Reuben omelet with the GF toast and a side of bacon. The GF toast is toasted in the same toaster as the regular bread but that doesn't affect me so I had the toast. It came buttered and the little jelly packets are on each table. It was GREAT. The bacon was crisp and thick. Very good. The omelette was large and well stocked with corned beef, cheese, sauerkraut and dressing. Excellent. My daughter had French toast with strawberries. The French toast was thick and well cooked. The strawberries were previously frozen but still very good. She also had a breakfast sandwich which was cooked perfectly and delicious as well. She also got a chocolate milk which was very chocolatey and large! The waitress came by multiple times to refill my coffee which is one of my checkpoints for a good breakfast spot. My coffee should always be full and hot during breakfast, and it was! If you're in Ellington , you need to check out the Chuck Wagon. It's a winner. read more

All about ripping you off. Ambiance is really bad because all you smell is pee and sh*t from the the rest rooms. You know what they say, if the rest rooms are dirty the kitchen is dirty as well. The service is basically drop and run. A good place to stay away from. read more

Chuck Wagon has is the best little restaurant in a quaint area of Ellington CT. Definite spot you need to check out if you are in the area. They are A+++ in y book. Their food is delicious. LARGE portions. Great Breakfast and Lunch. Be sure to go early as they close at 2pm. Opens at 6am if you are an early bird. I suggest trying the Eggs Benedict! Corned Beef Hash is also a must have. I had the cheeseburger omelette for breakfast. It didn't have much of flavors. Also it had zero salt. I had to add a ton of salt after it came to the table to make it palatable. Adding salt in the table will not get the exact taste like if the salt was added in the kitchen. I tried to add some pepper too. It was very tough to get pepper from the shaker. I worked on it for a while, then got tired and ate whatever. They will grill the muffins for you. It is not mentioned anywhere in the menu. But you can ask. Put some butter on it and have it, its nice. read more

Came here for their breakfast food. My favorite is the loaded home fries with cheddar cheese and bacon. I had mine with sour cream on the side and it was fantastic. The potato's were cooked perfectly. I also highly recommend the cinnamon bun pancakes. I have never eaten anything quite like it. It's located in a strip mall and is dated. It could be cleaned up a little but is by no means dirty. It's definitely popular with the locals and we made reservations. The only reason why I can't give it 5 stars is that it's cash-only. read more

Sunday Brunchtime. A rendezvous with my wife & daughter to meet-up with her boy friend and his parents (for the first time). The Chuck Wagon was a perfect location, comfortable and homestyle, for a first meeting. We had three tables, two by two, in a row. Our, young servers, promptly arrived with coffee pots (regular & decaf), and menus in hand. Also, making sure anything beyond coffee can be poured. Throughout the meal, I was impressed with their well taught and attentive, but unobtrusive work ethic. Now the food. Omelettes are the popular choice. In fact, five out of our group of six chose omelettes: Meat Lovers, a Western, a plain Cheese, an Irish, and a Veggie. Not to put shame our sixth dishes, which was notably well chosen the Eggs Benedict. Of course, a side of their highly rated country bacon! The standard side of home fries and choice of toasted bread were anything but standard. The pancakes and waffles were witnessed from afar, huge and lathered with whip cream - next time! My advice, pace yourselves and unlike me, you'll join the clean plate club. Whatta meal! read more

Haven't been here in a long time but was truly surprised at portion size and just everything they do. Came in on a Sunday and got right in without any wait. When left there was a wait. Though the town has grown they've remained the small town dinner I've always remembered. The whole restaurant ran like a well oiled machine, prefecture tuned. Most everything is homemade, meaning it's not some prepackaged throw in the microwave thing. They actually make it, maybe with exception of the bread it's all prepared to order. For example, the corn beef hash was au natural and not the type from a can. Very very refreshing. Had their #7 breakfast special, the corned beef hash, couple eggs, and toast. Toast is toast, nothing special. Had the eggs scrambled and they were all fluffy and full of goodness and seemed to be more than two eggs. As mentioned above the corned beef was homemade and great! While not the best have had it ranks well above the canned stuff see at most other places. The plates were good sized, toast and eggs on one half them the other half contained the hash. To give size comparison, there was easily three times (3X) as much corned beef hash as there was eggs. Seemed huge! They're really good people. If you ever find yourself in this area is definitely worth a stop. Be aaaw that they are CASH ONLY and have atm on premises. read more
