I was hesitant to try a new hair stylist but my sister had good things to say about this salon. I have very thick, long hair that can be a bear to wash and cut, but Alicia made it look so easy. It's been a few days since my cut and I've just washed it - I'm still so in love with the cut. Wow I am still so touched and blown away by the Salon's commitment to hospitality. Either my brain or the computer had a glitch when I booked my appointment and mistook it for the wrong day- I'm 9 months pregnant and desperately needed a cut. I'm still working and this was the only afternoon I had free. Alice went above and beyond to work with Jordan to fit me into their fully booked schedule! Jordan also understood my request right away- I normally ask for my thick hair to be thinned out, but I knew my hair would fall out in 6months (postpartum problems) so she was mindful to shape it nicely and leave enough volume for when it does. They handled everything with so much tact and grace while giving me a great haircut, I'm looking forward to my next visit! read more

After seeing the manager, Rob, reply to my initial review, I contacted him and we spoke on the phone. Right away he wanted to make things right for me. He was understanding, friendly and really gave me top customer service. I will always and forever be an Aveda product user, but I don't know that I would go back to an Aveda salon. Had a lovely experience at Atelier with my stylist Stephanie. I definitely recommend her. She got the job done and was able to pick up cues that I just wanted a haircut and less chit chat. I've been to other salons where I would just be barraded with questions and with my unresponsive answers, the stylist would continue on talking and ruining my quiet time. Came in and was greeted by the receptionist who asked me if I wanted tea or water. I asked for tea but she never came back... Waited around 5-10 mins after my appointment time to finally be greeted by Stephanie (who is lovely btw). I told her that I wanted short hair 2-3 inches past my shoulders but still be able to curl it and not too much layers. And she did just that!! Throughout the haircut, she would tell me what she's doing and asked me if I was okay with it. She also didn't use any of the layer/texture scissors but had her own technique to layering the hair, which I very much appreciated since those scissors just leave the hair looking unnatural for me. The haircut is shorter than what I expected but I LOVE IT!!! I asked her to style the haircut with some loose curls and it looked amazing!!! I also love the peppermint aroma oil that was used to massage my neck and shoulders before the haircut was started. Got a Groupon for $25 towards a $50 service. I booked an appointment with Stephanie and my experience was A+. The salon was really nice, everybody was friendly and they gladly accepted my groupon without giving me that funny look. With the haircut I got a nice relaxing scalp and neck massage for a few minutes, then she washed my hair and proceeded with the haircut. After that she flat ironed my hair like I asked and the whole process took about an hour. So with the Groupon I ended up paying $5 that day. So technically the haircut only cost me $30. Plus I gave her a tip from the original cost of the service which was $55. Will surely return even without a Groupon. I enjoyed my experience here especially because everyone was nice and not pretentious like other salons. read more

I came to Aveda asking for a grey balayage, and I first came for a consultation with Amy. I told her what I wanted, and she obliged. She gave me a quote for two processes ($375) That sounded fine to me, and on the day I came in, she also gave me a dry layered haircut, which I didn't see, but was fine when I came home and looked at it. The color part was the one I had a problem with. Once she thought the hair was light enough (with one process of bleach), she washed the bleach off, and applied the bleach on. Once she was done, it wasn't grey - it was a beige color. I didn't want to seem upset, as she seemed really excited about the outcome. Once I was at home, I saw how it wasn't very blended, and I realized how she overcharged me and didn't even do what I wanted her to do. ($30 for consultation, $150 deposit for before my hair appt, and $190 after it all) I gave her tip also, since it was curled so I didn't see how unblended it was. It just sounds funny to me how i was quoted for two processes ($375) and only given one process which was $370. Also, interesting to see that the Instagram picture Atelier posted was extremely filtered and different from the real picture. read more

This review is based on one visit. I was looking for a salon around Santana Row and was between this studio and another one. I decided on this place after going through the Yelp reviews. I went in for a women's haircut. I wanted a trim (~2 inches) because my ends were so dry/tangled. I arrived a bit early and was seated in a chair that had a sign that the chair had been sanitized. I appreciate that they had seats distanced and the signage was a nice touch. My hair stylist greeted me a few minutes after I arrived (this was still about 10 mins before my appointment time). I told her I wanted a trim and to thin out my hair because it's so thick. She asked if I wanted V or U shaped, and I said was open to whatever. She said U shape gives better definition, so I said okay. She asked if I wanted face-framing and long layers. I said yes to face framing and yes to long layers, but not too high because I wanted to be able to tie up my hair. I proceeded to get my hair washed. I didn't think the back of head was washed thoroughly (again, I have very thick hair so you really gotta get your hands in there). I then got my haircut but it really looked just like a trim with a minor 1 inch layer. The cut only took about 10 mins. The majority of the time was spent blow drying my hair. The receptionist came by and my haircut was promptly finished within the hour of my appointment (maybe a regular scheduled a last min appointment?). I was a bit shocked when my hair stylist announced that she was done. She didn't thin my hair like I asked, the "long" layers were not even long (my hair reaches my lower back so the layer could've gone higher), and I was confused why more time was spent blow drying my hair instead of cutting it. That was a first for me. I spent around $90-$100 (including tip, I felt bad for them because of covid) for this haircut, and I was not impressed. I'm still debating whether I want to give them a second chance, but I think I'll try out the other salon on Santana Row first. read more

This review is for Kim... On Saturday morning I had this strong urge to get a haircut, so I called Atelier at 9am when they opened, and was greeted with the receptionist (I literally called at 9am.. I was impressed that they were there and an actual person picked up, most times people come in a little late and I have to wait until later to actually get a person on the phone. Awesome!). I asked the operator if they had any openings today, and I was going to get booked with another stylist but I asked if Kim was available because I had heard good reviews for her. She was actually booked solid all day, but the receptionist said they would ask Kim if she could squeeze me in... and Kim actually made some time for me! I was really appreciative. This was my first time at the salon and with Kim. I came 20 min early, and she was still with another client but came out to quickly greet me and let me know that I could come back in 15 minutes or if I decided to wait, she would have someone start me a little early. I decided to wait. 10 min later, her assistant came out later and started me off with some aromatherapy (lots of different scents to choose from.. I got tangerine, yum!) and a short light massage (nice!), and then washed my hair. Kim asked me what I wanted, which was just a basic trim. She asked if 1 inch was ok, and then showed me the length that she would cut, which was fine with me. I was happy she was really clear about how much she would take off. She cut my hair quickly (I was done within an hour which is great) and even curled my hair afterward... it looked great! I had specifically told her, however, that it is really thick and heavy, and the only time it's ever sat well was with layers underneath, and not top layers. Karie, the owner, has done an amazing job at keeping her clients safe during the pandemic. Hair salons were finally allowed to reopen a couple weeks ago, but Karie had already prepared her salons for the eventual re-opening: a HEPA filtration re-circulator, temp checks and sanitation bottles everywhere. I am a fan of this hair salon but wasn't too thrilled with my last visit. I don't like the feeling of getting ripped off. My (not usual) stylist asked me at the beginning of my cut if I wanted a blow dry and if I wanted her to straighten my hair. I clearly told her that I was perfectly fine with just getting a blow dry and nothing more since the blow dry is always fantastic. Plus, I didn't want to pay the extra money to get my hair straightened because I am perfectly capable of straightening my own hair without the added cost. She agreed with me and proceeded with the cut but I felt like she snuck in the straightening without my knowledge after a very light blow dry. I suppose at this point I should have brought it to her attention (not used to a light blow dry...), but my hair had so much frizz and volume at that point that I didn't even bother. At the end of the service my hair did look great and when I went to go pay the stylist told the cashier "oh I'm sorry I straightened her hair as well. Sorry! Can you add that on?" When I asked the cashier what the damage was for the hair straightening, the additional $25 made me a unhappy customer. I just paid for it and gave my stylist a hefty tip anyways, but I wanted to relay to management that the stylists need to listen to the customers. I clearly told her that I did not want my hair to be straightened. Also, the strong product push needs to lighten up as well. I'll be back, but only with my usual stylist. read more

Had an great experience getting a keratin complex smoothing treatment with Celine! She was so professional and sweet and did a fantastic job. The treatment took 2.5 hours in total, which is typical for a keratin treatment. The pricing was a bit more expensive than my salon at home in Minneapolis (to be expected because everything is a tad more expensive in the Bay Area), but from the research I've done pretty on par with other salons in the area. I came in for a quote a few days before the appointment so I knew what to expect pricing wise! It's an expensive treatment, so getting a quote is great to decide whether the treatment is right for you. The service throughout was wonderful. I had major knee surgery 3 weeks ago, and Celine set up boxes for me to rest and extend my leg on during the treatment. I was offered coffee and water upon arriving and was consistently checked in on to see how I was doing. While waiting 30 minutes for the treatment to process, another stylist Sabrina offered to give me a hand massage. So glad I found this salon and am really happy with my treatment from Celine! Definitely will be returning for a cut, highlights or even another keratin in the future! read more

It's hard to give the right number of stars here.. maybe 2.5 is more appropriate. The cut was done really well. It was 95 + tip, so I would have expected high quality and they didn't disappoint. I had awesome layers, and chunky thicker bangs. The later was a bit of a new cut for me, and I really liked how edgy it turned out. (4 Stars). We discussed making an appointment 6 weeks later, but I wanted to see how everything set after a shower first. The maintenance ended up being the downfall (1 Star). I called back 3.5 weeks later to ask about color (I wanted a new colorist) and the cost of getting my bangs trimmed. Those chunky, edgy bangs grew over my eyes so quickly and the total cut looked dated with parted bangs. To my surprise, the cost of getting a bang trim was 30 dollars. THIRTY dollars for what would be less than 10 min. Now going back to the hair cut (60 min for 95), I would expect no more than 15, - pls do the math Aveda. I totally get trying to avoid customers who just get bangs trimmed for 6 months and haircuts twice a year - but it had only been 3 weeks! read more

Karie is amazing! If you have curly hair, she's your gal! I had my first appointment with her and I like that she took the time to consult with me about my concerns before picking up her scissors. I learned a lot about how to properly care for my curls and what products will work with my fine texture. Her assistant, Katie, was also great and did an awesome job with my conditioning treatment + massage. They are a great team and go above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable. Karie addressed all of my concerns and took her time with my cut. At other salons, I feel like stylists overbook themselves and I can feel rushed. Then takes the varying hairstyles I've screenshot and turns it into something beautiful. I also love how she's so willing to teach. I was drawn to Aveda strictly based on their ethics, Cruelty Free. Since I only use products that are Cruelty Free and safe for myself and the environment I was relieved to discover that I didn't have to sacrifice good blonde to be kind to animals. My experience at Atelier was so lovely. I had my blonde done by Kari and she was everything you want when getting the perfect blonde. It was an honor to have my hair done by her. I had an appointment with Katie, an artist I believe. I got there a bit early and they were ready for me. Katie was responsible for both color and cut. She was scheduled for about 3-4 hours with me, but mentioned that I had to leave by 3pm with a 12:30pm appt. I also got a hand massage which was nice. You get free drinks (tea/water) and there one changing room, where you can slip into their black tshirts and robe. I was a newbie so had no clue, but good thing I did what I did. Katie was awesome! Best color ever! She explained a lot of things to me and I learned a lot! The cut is cute and I would come back again. I did a deep hair moisturizing treatment, $25 for 5 min with a great massage. I found a Groupon n the day of, and worked with my stylist too! I bought a few items as I was running low The place is next to Fantasia, and I parked in the lot closest to it.
