It's a chicken place. I wouldn't come back because in Orlando we have too much to choose from to eat "blah" food but it was okay.

One of the most popular spots in Maitland, this Greek inspired roasted chicken joint is a family pleaser. The whole chickens are roasted on a rotisserie and they are never dried out. I have only been here twice, and the first time was way back. As far as i can remember this location has been here longer then i have lived around this area but the food is still as good as the first time i had it a couple years ago. They serve chicke,salads,gyros,sandwiches and hummus. I had there chicken from there chicken platter's ( breast and wing or leg and thigh) i choose breast and wing , it comes with two sides or a salad and i choose the Mediterranean salad witch comes with Olive's, and tomato's and cheese on a vinaigrette dressing all Pre- made to order but still good and tasted great. The chicken was good too and was nice and juicy not dry and was fresh and on the side they put one pita bread split in two's with some butter, over all the quality of the food was good and the prices are not to bad with the portions you get. The person that went with me had the same thing but with potato salad and Cole slaw and i can tell you both tasted pretty good, and the potato salad tasted fresh not sure if it is home made but was pretty good. If you want to take out they have that available and normally you can order and be out withing a few minutes. I came during lunch time and it was a bit busy but not to packed and they had you moving down the line pretty quick and got your food pretty fast. The place is kept pretty clean , food is served in Styrofoam plates and cups both make it easy on the restaurant to just trash your plates for easy cleaning .If you want to catch the breeze you can eat out side. Staff is friendly but nothing out of this world friendly! I gave it four stars because the food is good and the atmopshere is also very nice but the chicken is not the best I have had before, stil a place worth trying out if you have not been here before. read more

Stopped in for lunch with a gf on our way for pedicures in the same plaza. When it comes to Mediterranean "fast food", I just stick to what I know. This time wasn't any different. I ordered spinach pie, dolma & hummus with pita triangles. I was pleasantly surprised at how fresh & delicious everything tasted. The hummus had just the right amount of garlic & other seasonings, the pita was warm, soft & delish, their dolma (stuffed grape leaves) were very fresh & not mushy. The spinach pie was HUGE! I feel like Athena's is the dependable Maitland meal spot. You go in, order, pay, pick up food, and then eat or leave.If you don't feel like waiting, then go ahead and place a to-go order. There's a separate register for designated pick up orders! There's a great variety to their menu with their roasted chicken being one of the popular dishes. All wraps come a la carte with the option of adding sides for a few dollars more. They even have a dinner meal that comes in handy for those nights you don't want to cook. I was introduced to this place by my good friend about two years ago and I'm now a huge fan. Pros: -Chicken - it's in the name! Very good chicken with herbs with crispy skin. I like getting the dark meat chicken. -Green Beans - my go-to side #1. Always the perfect texture for green beans and no chewy bacon chunks floating around in it. -Hummus - go-to side #2. Seriously some really good creamy hummus. Sometimes they go a little crazy with the tahini but Athena is very very balanced. Nice to dip the chicken in too. -Pita Bread - you can either get a roll or pita bread on the chicken meal and I suggest going for the pita every time. Also, ask for them to grill it!! This increases pita enjoyment ten fold and it's no extra charge. -Outdoor seating - very shaded -Involved with the community. I like all the fliers for stuff going on in Maitland and Orlando as well as the pictures from past events. Cons: BBQ Sauce/ Hot Sauce - you have to ask for it now! Before you could just take a squeeze bottle for either and enjoy it with your meal, now it's rationed out. At least it's still free of charge - I'm looking at you Hot Dog Heaven. I understand this was probably due to food waste or abused by patrons but dang I loved the unlimited. I guess all good things must come to end sometimes. I had to knock it a star for this. I've not tried any of the gyros, desserts, salads, moussaka, so you'll have to rely on another review for that. Overall this is a great place to have in the community and worth trying out! I live in Maitland and have been going here for about 20 years. I visit about four times a month, about once a week. I think it's a little known secret in the "hood." There are always people here, which is always a good sign for a local restaurant like this. I like that it's highly affordable and fresh, tasty food. I sometimes pick up the chicken breast and tossed salad (which comes with a roll) for a nice healthy lunch or the chicken breast with green beans and roasted potatoes with dinner. Incredibly tasty, moist and again, I feel like healthier than typical restaurant or pick up food. They also offer Greek wine samples :) read more

When I lived in NYC on the UWS there was a place called Chirping Chicken that I loved that served chicken right from the rotisserie. Bu Athena in Maitland spices their chicken better than Chirping Chicken. It is to die for great chicken! You cannot beat a 1/4 pound white meat chicken with pita for under $5!! My only complaint, and it's why it gets 4 stars not five, is that for YEARS I have been asking them to offer whole wheat pita. I tried this place recently for lunch, lots of options! I enjoyed the quarter chicken platter. The chicken was seasoned perfectly and was juicy! My sides of hummus and tabbouleh weren't awesome, but were good. I did take-away, so I didn't have much time to observe the atmosphere, but take-away took about 2 minutes... so if you are looking for a quick lunch option this is a good bet! read more

Should have taken pictures, but we were too busy devouring our food. Very tasty chicken with a perfectly crispy skin. It was so good we found ourselves chomping on bones quickly. The soup of the day, vegetable was fresh and delicious, as was the hummus and roasted potatoes. If this place was closer than a half hour drive I'd be back many more times, as is I'll save it for special occasions. Delicious! I loved the atmosphere, being able to see into the kitchen, the decor, the friendliness, and of course the food. I'm not a big eater so I just got the chicken gyro. The gyro was probably one of the best I've had. The seasonings were Greek and delicious. I'm a huge fan of their taziky sauce. The pita bread was warm and fantastically seasoned. The chicken had good flavor to it but was dry (the reason for the 4 stars). I didn't mind the dry meat because of how delicious everything was. I will go back again but get a lamb gyro instead. Very good on all counts. I'm no Greek, have never been there except while playing Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis on DOS. In that game you go to both Thera and Crete, but Indy never eats anything. For eating Greek, this place is a really good pick. I know this because a little bird with whom I went lived there. Apparently this is the only place she's seen real Greek stuffed tomatoes. Their Greek salads (she said) were authentic, not a flaccid approximation. I got a half chicken and devoured the whole thing with only a fork. Also, the hummus and pita plate, which was a LOT of pitas. Not a bad thing. It's a good way to enjoy your meal, while telling yourself that it was good for you (simultaneously wiping the pita butter on your pants). In the end, I got a nourishment and still felt pretty good about my choices that day. A hearty meal for two ran about $18. I did get a little cattitude at the counter. Oh so good! I haven't been to Athena's in ages. Was in the area for a meeting and saw it on my way home. Pulled in right away because it's always been good. My friend and I both ordered the 1/4 chicken with greek salad. She had never been there. She loved the salad so much that I didn't even realize that she was posting about it on Facebook while she was eating it! The chicken was fall off the bone fabulous as usual. I love the dark meat with the skin. I wish I had more right now. We also got an order of hummus. I mean, who doesn't love hummus? And if you don't, you should! Too much food for two people, but I ate as much as I could. I think for all of that and two sodas...plus two free glass of wine for their anniversary, the bill was still under $20. I've been a huge fan of Athena's for over 20 years but only get back to Orlando on visits now. I was a little worried, since memory can get a little rosy, but I'm thrilled to say it's just as good as I remember. Delicious, moist, well-seasoned chicken lush with olive oil and greek spices with a crispy flavorful skin that is worth every little calorie. Their roasted potatoes are the best I've ever had - just the right mix of chewy and soft - in a delicious seasoning blend. My guy grabbed a chicken gyro and was a little worried it might be dry with mostly white meat. But nope - moist and with lots of their delicious tzakiki. Mom did her standby of a 1/4 chicken and a greek salad. Great visit and somewhere I was proud to take my guy to show him some of the treasures you can only get in Orlando. Wish we had something this amazing in Tampa - but I suppose our wallets couldn't handle yet another food addicition. Their gyro used to be one of my favorites too and I love the variety of pitas featuring their roasted chicken pulled off the bone. Service has always been quick and friendly on my visits and the seating area is comfortable for grabbing a quick meal. Not some place I would hang out for hours, but that might be good since the amazing smells would have me back at the counter for seconds. Went for lunch here yesterday. Smelled so good as soon as we got in. We ordered gyro on a pitas and roasted chicken on a pita. So good and delicious and fresh tasting. They say that mom and pop restaurants are the best all around...and I have to agree! Athena Roasted Chicken and Deli falls under this category and serves delicious and fresh food. Most of the items are Greek inspired and clearly prepared fresh on a daily basis. If you didn't guess already by the name, roasted chicken is their specialty. You can get it as part of a meal combo, on top of a salad or on a sandwich...it all depends on what you're in the mood for. Either way, you can't go wrong. I usually order a combo platter which comes your choice cut of meat, two sides and pita bread or a roll (go for the pita bread). For sides, I highly recommend the hummus, zucchini concoction and the potatoes. Yum-o! If you are one of those people who likes to see their food, they have all of it displayed in a glass case, which is also reassuring in a way. For dessert, definitely go for the bakalava...it's quite tasty! The staff are all fairly young, but nice and efficient. It gets very busy during lunch time on a week day, but there's no need to worry about a long wait because everyone works quickly to get you your food as fast as possible. There is plenty of seating inside and a few seats outside. If you're in a rush you can get take-out AND they do cater if you're ever in need of some food for a party or gathering. It was around 2pm on a weekday and the restaurant was pretty empty but they seemed busy with Togo orders/catering. I ordered the half chicken to go and was helped right away. The chicken itself was marinated well but a bit on the dry side. I would rate it better than Publix but not as good Boston market. This is a great choice if you are looking for a quick, tasty, inexpensive meal. I've eaten lunch and dinner here several times and am always pleased. For lunch, I typically order takeout, since it can get crowded and the bathroom is a little jinky (door doesn't really shut all the way). Warning - the zesty feta chicken pita will elicit cravings! I ate this almost everyday for a week because I loved it that much. So delicious! They actually sell the zesty feta spread - makes a great appetizer for a party. Being on a limited lunch schedule, I ran into Athenas twice recently, and I was pleased both times. On my first visit, I ordered a gyro and the chicken-lemon soup. I almost hit the floor when I saw that the gyro meat was frozen in the ready-to-serve slices and thrown on the grill for my order! To my surprise, the gyro was delicious. and the soup was delicious too. On my second visit, I had time only for the soup and two pitas. Delicious again. I'll be back when I have more time and will try their other menu items. Service was okay, some friendly other not so much. Lots of seating inside and some outside (on the side of the restaurant- looks lovely with all the beautiful plants). Prices reasonable. Worth a visit when you're in the area. read more

I found this place coming home from work, have eating here a few times. Mostly get the chicken platters with is served with two side I like the potato salad and the zucchini with the dinner roll.
