Overall good. Cute little local place. The chicken was amazing as well as the sides. The lamb and beef gyro was a bit of a let down though. Not very much meat at all, and what was there was drowned out by the massive amount of cucumber salad they put on it..they put very little tzatziki sauce on then will charge you $1.29 to get extra. Dont get me wrong, the salad was very tasty, guess I prefer the lettuce and tomato instead.. it was still a nice lunch, they even have a few outside tables.. will be back! read more

Athena's has been around for forever! My family loves this place. It was always a special treat to come here growing up. You can't go wrong with anything you get here because it is so fresh and what is interesting about this place is that they roast their chickens in house! Obviously because of this, the chicken is excellent as it is fresh and flavorful. This was the first place I ever tried Greek food: my favorites for sure are the taboule and the tzatziki sauce. I usually order the chicken taboule wrap. It is big, and of course delicious. It comes with chicken, hummus, taboule wrapped in a grilled pita. It will leave you filled to the brim. I love rotisserie chicken so I was excited when I found this place. We ordered the 1/4 chicken with 2 sides. The chicken was very dry, probably because it's been sitting under the lights all day long. The sides were bad. The pasta salad tasted like it came out of a jar, the lemon potatoes tasted like it was cooked last month, and there was a strange flavor associated with the potato salad. My iced tea tasted foul as well, like the container it sits in had not been cleaned for years. The disappointment was great and the staff seemed annoyed. One of my favorite places in Orlando - yummy, simple, quick. A staple for my family. My 9 year old who eats like a bird loves the Chicken Cypriana pita sandwich - she can eat the whole thing!!! The roasted chicken (think crunchy skin on the outside and juicy / fall off the bones) with the sides, falafel chicken sandwich and Greek chicken rice soup are also family favorites. In my opinion, Athena's roasted chicken taste so much better than a roasted chicken from Publix or Whole foods, two supermarkets in the area. I ordered a whole roasted chicken, side of zucchini, pita bread, and feta cheese for my husband and I. They cut the chicken into quarters which is very much appreciated. My husband ordered a gyro as well, with a side of red beans, which were also delicious. I hadn't had good red beans in a while. I had a gyro and my husband had roasted chicken. I did not like my food at all, the tzatziki was off, not as creamy as I like and the vegetables on my gyro were like a wet onion/lettuce slaw. Let me preface my review by saying, I did not try the chicken. Obviously chicken is what they're known for, but I am not a big meat eater, so I passed on this. There are only a couple of meal options for vegetarians- the Greek salad, Mediterranean salad, hummus platter, or the vegetarian pita. I went with the Greek salad with a side of dolmades which are also meat free and can be purchased individually. The salad was pre made (boo), but I will say it was a pretty decent pre made salad and it was relatively fresh. Lettuce, chunks of tomato and feta, olives, and potato salad with dressing options on the side. The potato salad was very good. Large chunks of potato with a nice mustardy taste. The dolmades were also good and lemony. The other members of my table ordered pita sandwiches which were large and looked good. It would have given an additional star if there was a vegetarian protein option. Falafel, bean salad, or even just chickpeas? Food was delivered quickly, which makes this a good workday lunch option. The restaurant is small and it seems like there are one too many tables inside, but we didn't have any issues. My meal was just under $12, which seemed a little steep for a pre made salad, 3 small dolmades, and an unsweetened tea. I think the chicken is what keeps people coming back, but since that isn't my cup of tea, I would likely venture somewhere else. read more

First I have to say that the taste and flavor of the chicken was delicious. It was nice to find great Greek chicken. BUT the cost for the portion Is off putting. The potatoes were tasty but could use some more sauce. The rice was sticky and over cooked. The flavor was good but again the portion for price is poor. We recently made a second trip to Athena Roasted Chicken in the Shoppes at Maitland. Their website boasts they "roast chicken like no one else". This casual counter service restaurant also serves Mediterranean classics such as dolmades, gyros, spinach pie and tabbouleh. When we stopped in earlier this year we ordered chicken, of course, and found the crispy skin had a nice peppery flavor yet the meat, while being incredibly moist, was disappointingly lacking in flavor. The sides of green beans and roasted potatoes didn't elevate the plate; but a dab of their creamy, garlicky, tzatziki sauce did. And then there was the gyro with its thinly sliced, skillfully seasoned meat (lamb and beef) complemented by amazingly fresh Mediterranean salad, and that wonderful tzatziki sauce. Every element of the gyro; pita, meat, salad, and tzatziki was extremely fresh. Craving another gyro (and wanting to give the chicken another try) we headed back. Our latest trip proved to be a repeat performance. The chicken, well... The gyro - the same splendid goodness. This time before heading out we decided to grab a piece of spinach pie. We're glad we did, Athena's spinach pie is unbelievably light and the slightly tart filling of spinach and cheese places this dish up with the gyro, a must try. read more

This place is AMAZING!! The Rotissiere chicken is moist with a flavorful skin and the roasted potato's were to die for-sooooooo good! I also got Sid's salad and have enough for dinner tonight. We got in a bit before noon and the place was pretty full which was a good sign to me. My new favorite place in Orlando-this is the real deal. Stopped in because we didn't want the routine sub or burger and were an hour from home. Their menu looked good. We were not disappointed: had a chicken gyro and a pork pita. Both were substantial in size and very tasty. We were so impressed we went back in to get a half roasted chicken with two sides for our dinner. Their pitas are large and fluffy.
