Quiet local place, ample parking. Entrance is around back, off quadra, I wasn't sure if I was entering the back of the store. Their doors line up so you walk into one and there's another with an employee sign lol so I went here after the in laws gave us left overs of donair to try. Loved it. I got 2 12" donairs, knowing it's large and it's two servings in 1. This isn't a subway 12".. so two took 10mins. Tons of beef. Wish there was more veggies. Lol my partners looked better than mine, my lettuce was getting old and was some core. So if you like veggies, maybe add your own. Looks like to bits of lettuce, one slice of tomato and a finely sliced rings of onion. Not too bad. Paper bags with handles. Lots of advertising. Website is a little confusing. The best donairs and souvlaki anywhere! They've been around forever and even though the donair sauce is like sweet sauce, so traditional tzatziki is better with the chicken. Either way they're delicious. Huge chunks of roasted garlic in the souvlaki make it so flavorful. read more

I've been meaning to share my compliments for Athena's. . . . I've had take out from here three times this year, and would recommend it to folks who crave souvlaki or donairs or Greek salad. The donairs are the hugest I've ever seen! One donair feeds two people with a salad share. Seriously good value. The donair sauce is too sweet for me, but the tzatziki works even better. It tastes fresh made, lke they either made it, or the Mediterranean Specialty store down the way. Very creamy and fresh garlicky. One order of the Greek salad is surprisingly huge too, enough for two people. Generous balance of tomatoes, peppers, english cucumber, flavourful herb Greek dressing and more kalamata olive and feta than I've ever seen from a take out joint or restaurant delivery. So yummy. You have to be really hungry though. They do deliver till early in the morn, and pizza too, which friends have given two thumbs up on. From what it looks like from the outside and the take out, it's nothing special, but persevere and you will find a real gem to order dinner from with good food and value. read more

The food was decent but the service was extremely unsatisfactory. I had ordered two donairs from Athena's which came to a total of 31.25 after tip and tax. The food as previously stated was decent but the issue stemmed from the delivery man and who I can assume is the owner or manager. Upon delivery I was told the price and given the machine to pay by debit, gave a decent tip and was told my card was declined. This was strange because I knew I had the funds, but I told the delivery man I would try again. I tried again and the machine accepted and after confirming with the delivery man that I would only be charged once he left, much like any other delivery service. The real problem began when I checked my on-line bank statement the next day. I saw that I had been charged twice, racking up a bill of ~63 dollars for two donairs. This seemed a bit unreasonable so I decided to call Athena's to see if I could get a refund, big mistake. Immediately I was greeted by a grumpy cook who refused to give me a refund, arguing that it was the fault of the bank and no problem of his, he told me to go discuss this with the bank and get my refund through them. To the bank I went. At the bank I told them of my issue and they gave me a printed statement to show to the owner and perhaps that might bring him to giving me a refund. I went to Athena's with the statement and the man from the phone insisted it was the banks problem and not his, even though all the evidence pointed to me being charged twice and the money being in his hands. Fed up I finally went back to the bank to see if there was any hope to get my money back. They said they could issue a dispute but it would take up to 30 days to conclude with no guarantee of getting my money back. I issued a dispute. Two weeks later I decided to check whether I had been reimbursed for this lengthy process and found I had not. I called up Athena's once more to see if we could get this sorted, big mistake #2. After being yelled at for even suggesting that I get a refund (I doubt this man has ever heard of customer satisfaction or even the word respect) he told me if it meant that much to me I should call the police and hung up. I did. The police were a great help, even though I felt super foolish for calling. They essentially told me what I assumed would be the case, that it was a civil dispute matter and if I wanted to get the money back I would have to go to court. My time isn't worth that little that I would go this route, so Instead I wait on my bank to get me a refund (fingers crossed) and wrote this review to dissuade people. TL;DR I was charged twice for my food. After being yelled at by the owner that he would not give me a refund he insisted I go to the police. Extremely poor customer service, get your donairs and pizza somewhere else. read more

One of the best delivered pizzas I've ever had. Showed up so quickly the bottom was still crisp. Had the vegetarian (hold the green bell peppers, add feta) and the vegetables still had a little firmness to them. Excellent crust, sauce and cheese. Highly recommended! read more

When ordering delivery 70% of the time no one answers ever, the rest of the time you get additude and bitchy comments. I read the reviews and didn't really believe all reports that a single donair could provide for multiple meals. But its true, I brought my hunger and could wolf down 1/3 of the meatiest donair i've tasted. Recommend a greek salad that was loaded with tomatoes in the winter, red and green peppers, a decent amount of feta. Highly recommend for value and taste. This was the biggest Donair I've ever laid my eyes on. This SOB (son of a bitch) will fill you to the brim and push you to your breaking point ! That sweeeeet sweet Halifax taziki tastes better than a cold corona on a hot Friday night. Heard about a massive Donair that Athenas offers for 13.50$ Came from Langford with a buddy to grab one. We took them back to my place talk about awesome! The size is incredible value for you're money and tasted awesome! Loved the tzatziki sauce which is a little sweet. Absolutely loaded with meat. My friend joked about asking for double meat because Madgreeks in Langford offers so little in their donair. Boy was he wrong this one from Athenas absolutely knocks it out of the park! Wow! This unassuming (looks like a family operation) neighborhood pizza joint ROCKED my world tonight! It's been a LONG time since I've felt like I got great value from a pizza place, usually we get pizza's from Romeo's because it's consistently decent, although not great. BUT THIS PLACE, WOW! I ate three slices and I'm full, they are absolutely loaded, and the topings are QUALITY, and the pizza sauce has real flavor unlike a lot of bland stuff most places use, cheese is a mix of mozza & edam,( I asked :)). We ordered two mediums for pickup, 1st pizza was capicollo, ground beef, feta & mushroom ~ you can taste the smoke on the BIG bacon chunks, lots of feta, big mushroom chunks (diced, not sliced), and tasty capicollo you can actually taste the hot pepper spice in the meat. 2nd Pizza was a Hawaian, plus Ground Beef and Mushrooms, with tons of sweet pineapple, and real ham slices, diced mushrooms, and spiced ground beef chunks. They said they are open latest in town, 4-am Friday, 3-am weekends, and 2-am weekdays, and they deliver all over the city. They also offer HUGE souvlaki & donairs, haven't tried those yet. I knew there was something to these pizzas when I carried them out because they were so heavy it felt like there was a brick inside each box. They are only Pickup & Delivery, there is a large parking lot at the rear for pickups. Located right across the street from the Keg, on Quadra.
