I met two lady friends yesterday for lunch at Athenian Grill. The weather was great and we sat on the beautiful patio overlooking the water. The service was great, we ordered non-alcoholic drinks as we perused the menus. We ordered French fries as an appetizer to munch on while we waited for our lunch order. They were piping hot and came with catsup in a dish, very elegant (as opposed to a bottle). Our food arrived and it was delicious. After we ate, the owner Shelley came by and visited with us. She was very nice, and it was nice to meet her. It was a great experience and I'll definitely be back. read more

We had just driven two hours to get there and were very hungry. We had our service animal with us. So even though there were a lot of empty tables, we had to wait around 15 minutes. Overall the service was slow. I ordered the lamb burger which seemed like a good choice but it was tasteless and bland not to mention extremely pricey for what it was. The most lovely Greek spot downtown, on the water. My father recommended and we stopped by, party of 6, on a Friday night. I made reservations the day prior and requested a table on the patio. Upon arriving , our table was ready and had the most lovely view outside on the patio. For those I don't know, the scenery is superb! It overlooks the water and the Suisun marina and we had dinner on the most beautiful night! The food we ordered was all amazing! We started with the sampler platter as well as the calamari, both dishes were superb! We got a variety of meals, including a Shelly special! Everyone's dish was perfect! Topped the night off with a trio of desserts and a few affogatos and of course, my espresso! Perfect Greek fair with the most beautiful interior and exterior decor! Clean and prompt service! We wanted to take our kids to lunch before hitting the festival at the marina. We went early enough that they weren't very busy. We were greeted right away and seated. We decided to eat inside because it was heating up, but we do enjoy dining on the patio near the water. Our waitress, Jade, was very friendly and attentive. We decided pretty quickly what we wanted to eat. My husband ordered the Souvlaki Pita Sandwich with lamb and sweet potato fries. Our oldest wanted calamari and fries. Our youngest ordered mini cheeseburgers (plain) and fries from the kids menu. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and fries. Everything was very clean inside, like all the previous times we have eaten here. The food was delicious and the service was great. I remember going to Athenian Grill when I was a kid and was happy to see it is still in Suisun. My family stopped in for lunch on a Friday afternoon. We were happy to be seated outside on their patio. Our server was great at getting us our drinks quickly and an appetizer started for us. We started with their onion rings and wowa were they massive, hot, and crispy! Most of our party went with a Greek option for our meals and Athenian Grill still has it! The pita is warm and soft, meat plentiful, and flavors on point! Another person got the patty melt and it was truly a great patty melt. Been awhile since I've been back, post fire. Had my go-to, ribeye steak sandwich and fries. It was like I remembered. Steak cooked to perfection on a soft roll w/lettuce & tomato. Lettuce/tomato were fresh and crisp. Only complaint, fries were a little overdone for my liking. However, they're fresh cut, and overdone fresh cut are still better than frozen. WOW this place has seriously lost all value in customer service. The last time I was here was when I wrote my previous review 2 years ago giving this place 5 stars. Now I can barely give them 1 star with the customer service lacking SO much. Came in today (9/20/25) with my husband and small child and was excited to sit and eat yummy food. Walked in and waited at the front of the "wait to be seated" sign. The place was pretty empty with only two tables taken. The kitchen is pretty open and staff are able to see customers that walk in from the kitchen. So we waited... and waited.... And waited... and waited.... As we waited to be seated we saw one of the male cooks going back and forth while cooking. He saw us, didn't say anything, had an earbud in his ear, and just kept cooking... as we continued to wait we saw another staff member walk by in the kitchen, looked at us and continued to do what she was doing... at this point we had already been waiting at least 10 minutes so we just decided to leave and take our money elsewhere. It's one thing to acknowledge your customers and say "we will be right with you" or SOMETHING but to completely ignore customers that are planning to spend money at your restaurant is beyond me. Horrible customer service. We ended up leaving to another restaurant that we felt welcomed and acknowledged as soon as we walked in the door. I will no longer waste my time driving to this place given the lack of service displayed. read more

Went for lunch...I ordered the Patisto which is always what I order. The bottom of it was sooo hard I could not cut it with the knife. The salad, though good, was quite a bit smaller than usual. When I mentioned to the server and showed her, she said she would inform the kitchen so the next time they cooked it, it would not be so hard! Once you walk in, there's a beautiful atmosphere and friendly workers ready to help. We sat in the patio where there was a nice, open view to the water. Incredible food, service and patio experience. We started off and immediately gobbled up warm, seasoned pita bread dip in the most delicious hummus we have ever had! And followed up our appetizer with SOUVLAKI chicken plates and ordered an extra skewer of chicken to make sure we would have some delicious leftovers. The plate did not disappoint. It was filled with the chicken skewers a Greek side salad, flavorful rice, and a vegetable skewer with some Tzatziki for dipping. The owner of the establishment even stopped by to say hello! Wife reviewing here - Our family has gone to the Athenian Grill for decades. My Thea and Dad both loved it, and I had been there a number of times. We stopped in to get food for my cousin who has been bed-ridden, so it was to go. I was sad to see some changes, and in particular, the food. The specifics are; The spanakopita is not made with filo, which is the Greek way. Maybe this is some kind of other filo, but not filo as I know it. It seemed like a puff pastry. Real Greek spanakopita is made with filo, as the Baklava was. (we ordered that and it was excellent and it may come from a filo-specific Baklava vendor which is common these days). The Dolmathes, normally a fairly light item were solidly meat with very little rice. I was raised on Domathes that were equal rice/meat). They came with a lemon sauce that looked to me like it was thickened with flour. They told me when I asked, if the Avgolemono was thickened with flour. In a restaurant, it can often be thickened with cornstarch, and of course, authentic Avgolemono is thickened only with beaten egg. In a commercial kitchen, this is not always sustainable, BUT, a flour thickened soup meant I could not eat it as I am Gluten Free. When it was sauced over the dolmathes, I couldn't eat them either. The Greek salad contained large chunks of tomato. A real Greek salad has smaller tomato, bite sized. The dressing was on the side which is normal with TO GO as if you dress it too early, it gets soggy. The size of the feta on the side was small. An authentic Greek "meze" dish or greek salad would have generous slabs of feta. It was barely enough. I will say that my cousin and my husband thought everything tasted good and my cousin was appreciative. The restaurant is very nicely updated, and the water setting is always great. We purposefully came back here for GREEK food (not competitors which are mediterranean food). I was personally disappointed. read more

From the moment I sat down, they were asking me if I would like some water they let me see the menu ahead of time. The venue is beautiful on the marina. You could sit outside and face the boat or you could sit inside. Great simple menu Greek food. They had a lemony rice soup that's my favorite as well as Gyro and even I saw pastitso on the Menu as well as spanakopita. The ambience is great. It took the server a few minutes to greet me, after waiting for a while to order I finally gave up and left. They only had 2 servers running the place and 1 cook, which wasn't enough. The orders were backed up and when I called to place an order, they said it would be 30-35 minutes. I left and ate somewhere else. read more

I had mousaka which was superb, my friend loved her delicious pita falafel, and the pita lamb souvlaki was perfectly cook moist and so very tasty...the place is spotless, very clean and inviting. Met an old friend here for lunch. I was a few minutes early and was kindly greeted by staff. I told them I was meeting someone and they were all too happy to seat me and get me some iced tea while I waited. The menu has a wide variety of Mediterranean options. I decided to try the lamb stew. While it was on the brothy side, it was very flavourful and it was served on a bed of rice along with pita bread. My friend ordered the gyro sandwich, which looked really good. The dining room filled up pretty quickly over the lunch hour and the server team was comprised of two hard working staff members. It was a little tough for them to keep up, but they did a pretty good job. The place is clean, offers both indoor and outdoor seating, and is relatively comfortable. I'm sure I'll be back. I thought the salad was a little small too. The spanakopita is not on the menu but they had some and it was very good. Hummus has some pesto sauce on top for a twist. These are some good appetizers. Been coming here for years growing up in the area. Always a solid meal. Dolmades and avgolemono soup are what I get. Nothing else. You know how difficult it is to find dolamdes that aren't vegetarian?! They remodeled after the COVID fire and it's more modern. Came with church group and sat outside. Great service. We have been going to this restaurant before and after it's fire they had years ago. The food is very authentic. But if I may make a suggestion, their service is terrible. They are friendly but very slow. We have sat there even when we are the only ones in the inside and they are still slow. We sat outside last week and it was the same....slow. We know the food takes a while and that is understandable but the service well....... Unfortunately my Pastitso came cool and not hot at all, the others ordered the Greek salads and they all loved them. Normally the food is great and dependable. We haven't been here since they re-opened. Keep in mind they are closed on Monday and Tuesday (foolishly tried to go there last Tuesday). So we finally made it here and took our exchange student. We were told by two young ladies that there would be a 15-20 minute wait. In the meantime, two more families arrived. While the two ladies had everything under control, an overly helpful server tried to seat another family before us. I'm thankful that they made sure to seat us first. Seriously, there in no worse fault in my mind. The other family did get their order of food before us and left before us. Maybe the overly helpful server knew them because he was all over them and was their server? In any case, our server was Ashleigh and she was very efficient and helpful. I would give the service 4 or 5 stars depending on which person you are reviewing. The overall appearance of the newly reopened restaurant is stunning. It is so nice. Lastly, the real show stopper is the food. We hope to eat here more often. The food is so amazing. My husband and our son adore the bacon cheeseburger with fries. Their fries are top notch. Holy remodel! It looks great in here. Love the new look, colors, and vibe! Located in Suisun City next to the marina. It was a sunny Sunday around lunch and sadly, there was no more seating available in the covered patio area but we were seated fairly quickly indoors. Staff was nice and welcoming and service was great. I ordered the gyro sandwich. It's a decent serving and it was delicious. The sauce is just YUM. The Greek salad was a perfect pairing- though you can get fries or soup- it was refreshing on this warm day. My husband had the pastrami sandwich. He said it tasted good however, do not expect the large sandwich. The serving size is not what it was before. Wish I had a picture to show. Overall I was happy with my meal and I would love to come back and sit outside. If you have time, take a stroll outside next to the marina.
