I don't shop here, I wait here for my wife to try on things and buy. It's a competitor of Lulu but the quality seems to be comparable. The store itself is not as huge but the selection is. There are a few computers that are available to use if you need something that isn't available in store. The associates are very helpful and knowledgeable. There are several displays to help you decide what looks good. There is seating in the fitting room, which is comfortable. Also, there is a sale rack hidden in the back, which seems to have really aggressive pricing. Walk more, save more. read more

I like the selection at Athelta but it's been twice now ONLY at UTC (I usually go to fashion valley)today being 8/29/26 that I've come in and I feel like the employees are breathing down my neck checking to see if I'm doing something I'm not supposed to despite there being other customers inside, I felt all eyes were on me every time I turned. I work in retail I understand trying to get commission and profit but you guys are almost crossing that boundary of checking in to make sure everything is good with a customer and making them uncomfortable and acting suspicious of them. They have this scam to ask you to apply for their credit card, which they said would give you 20% discount, and it is pre-approved. After we put in our application, they said it is not approved yet so no 20% discount today, but can come back within 2 weeks for 20% discount. What dishonest practice! And what a waste of time! We will cancel our care as soon as we receive it. Do not fall for their trap! We actually like banana republic, their sister store, but this experience left a bad taste for Gap Inc. read more

I was in UTC San Diego store in November, returning online purchases & trying on some leggings. Sophie helped me, she's very knowledgeable and was able to explain the different Athleta leggings to me. I am 5',2" and 107. Great shopping experience thanks to Sophie!!! In ATHLETA, I am petite xs. I would give this location one star but not sure if there's another Athleta location to compare it to yet. I've been here twice in the last week as I was given a gift card some months ago from a friend. So they would have had a guaranteed purchase from this new customer. No one greets you when you enter. No one acknowledges when you're looking around. That's happened on both visits. I'm not sure how many staff members they have at any given time. The two cashiers on both visits were all busy with customers. I noticed one employee walking to the dressing room and I asked her if they still have a sale rack (they used to but now it's gone). She pointed to tables and said to look in the back of the tables. I didn't know what that meant. Or what tables she was referring to. Pointing doesn't help when I'm not familiar with the store or your clothing or the prices. I tried to look for sale items but gave up. Nothing is marked easily for a customer to read. The dressing rooms look nice and spacious They do have restrooms in the back so that was nice. I hope to find another location. Or maybe I'll just buy online. It was just such a disappointing experience as my yelper friend Diana had raved about this location. read more

I visited a few months ago to do some shopping and while I was there I decided to ask what I should do differently to stop pilling in my salutation leggings and the associate mentioned I could bring them in for an exchange. So I did. During the exchange process with a different person I didn't catch her name, I asked her what I could do to avoid pilling and she told me to walk with my legs farther apart... I wear a size M. I can't walk any differently than what I already do. I think I'm going to avoid Athleta for awhile. 1 extra star because their clothes are usually good. read more

I have been shopping at the La Jolla store for at least 8 years and have always had excellent customer care until today. The manager who helped me was terse and made sure to let me know that the top that I wore briefly before deciding to return it (their policy allows this and encourages this!) would be unsellable. I left with a bad taste in my mouth and will think twice about shopping in person. I felt punished for abiding by their return policy. read more

I have shopped at Athleta for years and have always had good customer service at The UTC Shopping Center. I decided to try the new store in Carmel Mountain Ranch since it is closer to my home. I went in the day after the storm Hillary had passed through San Diego. I told the two store clerks I was surprised the store was closed yesterday. One young, 20 something year old store employee said sarcastically, "Well it should be closed since it was a category 2 storm. Actually, it was a category 1. Nevertheless, she was rude and condescending. I left the store and called to speak to the manager. She stated she was the assistant manager and I could not speak to any higher up employee for weeks. After I told her what happened, she said well maybe you should shop at UTC if you feel more comfortable there! I called customer service and am still waiting for somebody to follow up on the incompetent employees at Athleta in CMR. read more

Just awful. I was in the store for an hour. The first 10 minutes was spent shopping and trying on things. I was super impressed by the styles and variety and fabric - so comfy!! The awful part started the minute I took my four items up to check out. My heart is still racing from the experience because it was just so frustrating. Two girls were trying to help me check out using handheld devices (acr's or something?) and the devices wouldn't work. Their solution to this problem was to just try a new device. 4 devices, and 40 MINUTES later, they got it. During that time I had to tell them my phone number and address 5 times. Let me repeat that. I had to tell them my address and phone number 5 Times. I should have walked out without buying anything after the first 20 minutes but I was buying a last minute gift for a friend so I decided to try to be patient. Finally when the two girls were able to complete my transaction, I had to wait another ten minutes for one of the girls to figure out the gift box. Having learned my lesson abt giving them the benefit of the doubt in being competent sales people, I just said give me the box and I'll figure it out at home. Shopping -- you know going in that you're going to be spending money but you nevertheless expect it to be calming and de stressing. NOPE. I asked the ladies if they had any sort of discount (I know they do bc my sister recommended Athleta to me and had told me they give a student discount but I am not a student). I asked maybe for first time shoppers or PEOPLE WHO HAD TO SUFFER THROUGH THIS AWFUL EXPERIENCE, but the one lady who was the manager said "oh you can sign up for the credit card" (after I told her I wasn't going to before) and the other girl just kept saying "sorry sorry sorry". Never again. They could have made it better by giving me even a 10% discount - I had just spent over $300, but no. Athleta lost what could have been a VERY dedicated customer today. I am never going to recommend them to anyone. I might even have to return the clothes I bought since they will remind me of this stupid experience today. Ps -- looking at my past reviews, you will se that I am not a negative Nancy or angry person but this experience reeeeeeally frustrated me. Would NOT recommend. I'll be going back to lulu lemon next time where I know I will get quality and understanding customer service. read more

I will certainly be returning because I love this store and right now the closest one to my SD resident. The huuuuuge line meant that the soft opening was going to be soooo good. Tons of ladies invited by Eventbrite waiting for some goodies, special offers, and great treats catered by Tender Greens! It was my first hand approach to Athleta, I never heard of them before and I love their gym clothing, even if I find it a little too pricey. But the quality is there, the texture, the fabrics, the colors and the design. Much better than many other competitors out there (I think they have the GAP brand backing them up, I read somewhere). The opening was a blast, we were mostly women who strive for a healthy lifestyle while showing some sex-appeal with the clothes we put to work out. I stopped by here for the first time yesterday after doing some shopping at Lululemon and was disappointed with the customer service. No one welcomed me upon entering. I proceeded to the sale section, which I liked because there were so many pant and top options. I spent some time browsing and not once did an employee come by and asked if I needed any help. I picked out 2 pairs of leggings to try on. There was no one in front of the fitting rooms ready to help me, so I walked around awkwardly until I came to the back and saw two ladies just standing around chatting. One of them saw me and just told me to go into a fitting room...unprofessional and quite rude. Their leggings are great quality and very comfortable so I did purchase a pair, but I think I may return it now and just stick with Lululemon. read more

I'm an avid Athleta shopper. Most of my athletic wardrobe is Athleta.. I was in town on vacation and decided to stop here. This is the first time I've ever experienced poor customer service at an Athleta. When I walked in there was a guy who seemed like he worked there but I couldn't tell. He was on his phone and acknowledged me mumbling. Not one person asked me if I needed help. I found a fitting room on my own and this is the first time no one has offered to get one started for me. Sadly, I walked in and looked around the store for 10-15 minutes and was completely ignored. I was the only customer!! I have zero idea what XS size means (is that equal to a size 2?), and wish someone asked if I wanted help. There were two girls at the front of the store talking about gossip, yelling to the chick at the register, and I am assuming a manager walking in and out of the store from the back room on her phone.....all of them completely ignored me. Two other girls walked around in the back chatting as well, and no one would make eye contact. That is 6 people that ignored me!! It wasn't like I wanted to be attacked when I came in, but AT LEAST a friendly "hello, welcome in" Guess they don't want my business. I won't be back. read more

I have purchased Althleta workout gear for awhile now and this is my primary store (unless I buy things online). Generally, the staff are always very friendly and helpful and easy going. I do think sometimes they can get a bit busy, but overall I always like coming in and looking around and shopping! read more

The quality of their clothes is amazing! Super soft, stretchy and comfortable. I had originally come for a summer outdoor ride but last minute Rush ended up cancelling the ride. Bummer! Anyway we ended up coming by to do some shopping. My daughter got some really nice things to wear for summer time! Melissa, the manager and her entire team were great! My wife has a massive athleta addiction. Spends a ton every month on athleta and is a huge fan. We recently moved to Encinitas from Phoenix Arizona. My wife and I went shopping at the Westfield LaJolla mall. She went to buy a bunch of stuff and had the worst shopping experience ever. The products are fantastic but the service was actually nonexistent. Shocking to me for such a loyal and spendy customer. Needless to say we will not shop there again and felt someone had to know how uninvolved and asleep at the wheel the sales folks are at this store. We have shopped at athleta stores in Chandler and Scottsdale AZ, and Hollywood CA and the service has always been excellent. read more

I love Athleta and been a loyal customer for more than 15 years but the stores are often out of stock and if there is an upcoming sale they will not mention it--I was told I had to physically bring my receipt in (a 2-hour round trip!) to get the sale discount on a purchase over $500 I made only 2 days prior using my Athleta card. I will never shop the store again. My advice is go there to size things but save your purchases for online. read more

I just tried to exchange a $148 hoodie I bought on their website for a different size that is in stock at the store. I had called the online customer service but they couldn't do an exchange without processing it as a refund and do a repurchase but they can't give me the same price because I used a Gap credit card reward on the purchase. Yes, I buy that much stuff from the Gap brand to get their credit card. The online customer service rep said that I can do the exchange in store without having to do the refund and repurchase. I go into the store and was told the transaction had to be a refund and repurchase because it was technically a different store. What?! I returned it because I don't think I can enjoy it after this ordeal. I'll just take my money elsewhere since they don't want it. read more

Went here for a swim suit!!! That is always stressful...but I was so happy with what I found. I have a very narrow rib cage and large bust so finding suits is so hard. Their bra sizes suits have wire and great support. I found so many suits I had a hard time choosing which one to get. I was very happy with their fitting rooms as well. The customer service was excellent. They did not have my size but shipped it directly to my house, quickly, free of charge. I bought a bright, orange bikini. The material faded within two months. I had never been to this store and will never purchase another product here ever again. You can get much higher quality materials shopping at other similarly priced stores. I needed a bathing suit and thought I would try this store. It's always hard for me to find a flattering one and I hate bathing suit shopping. I had an excellent sales person help me. Her name is Delphine, has a french accent! She was more than helpful finding me sizes, reccomending what would work with my body type, etc... Friendly, honest and hardworking. I would go back again!
